Eureka Inn - Eureka

I had a great time at Eureka Inn. The desk personnel was very helpful with planning things to do and see. The hotel is undergoing rennovation and you can see, or imagine, what it will be like in a few years. I would surely return. It doesn't have the lustre of a modern hotel but the character and classiness of an old, and historic, hotel.

"Loved the historic hotel. Built in the 1920s it still has the feel of this era when in the newly remodeled rooms. Little touches, like an old French phone and a fire place in the room were really nice. The staff was very helpful and the room was clean. Restaurants weren't open yet, but should be in a few weeks.

Very nice place. Easy to locate. They called me to check on my late arrival and waited for us til after 10pm. Room was great. Has a pool too. Continental breakfast was simple but good. More than enough fuel to get the day started. Gas nearby for refill. A bit expensive but then all hotels were gouging on graduation wkend. Stay there u'll love it.

The staff was super friendly, but the hotel is just not worth $100/night. People were stuffing sheets at the bottom of the doors because the gap at the bottom was so big. It's an old hotel so there are lots of noises, and you can hear everything going on inside and outside. It is a historic hotel definetly in need of help. Many portions of the hotel are closed off with bicycle lock cables. The room smelt of wood decay and the cold water knob on the faucet didn't work. The plus side being the room is large but only housed a double murphy style bed. The staff was friendly however not very proactive in the function of being […] a host to guest. The Inn did have a live jazz band the night we stopped in Eureka (a Tuesday) but there was no escape as even at 11 at night the sound litterally rattled the windows of our room. The service was great, the hotel staff very polite. This is a very old hotel, very reminiscent of the 20's, an era that I love. My room was clean, although the rug needed to be replaced. The most convenient hotel in Eureka, right in the center of town.

The Eureka Inn was a welcome surprise stay for me and my family. The historic nature and look of the lobby and entire first floor really told me we were staying at something special. On their website you learn former US Presidents and other famous Americans stayed at the Eureka Inn back in its heyday. With the new management, the hotel is returning […] back to its former glory. The hotel staff were all really friendly and were eager to help us have a comfortable stay - ex. the room curtain was not closing properly and the front desk had someone fix it when my family stepped out for the day. The rooms have the basis amenities with free WiFi. There will be a full restaurant in the near future but the free continental breakfast was filling enough to start the day. Next time I take my family to vacation in Eureka, we will be staying there again. Read more

I was excited to see that this historic hotel was re-opening after many years closed but they're DEFINITELY NOT READY to re-open yet!! They charge extra for the remodeled rooms, there are no facilities ready and the internet DOES NOT WORK in the rooms - I had to change hotels altogether as I could not stay and work without reliable internet

It was TERRIBLE experience! We did not sleep the whole night , our neighbors were seasonal workers , and they ( probably 10-15 people in one room) were fighting , screaming , laughing , breaking the furniture from 2.30 am until 6 am. We tried to call the hotel management , but nobody responded.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for my birthday. The lobby was amazing. Decorated for Christmas and little hide away show cases of pieces of the hotel's history. Going upstairs into the room was disappointing however. The suite wasn't much bigger than a standard room. I thought the historic naming meant they couldn't "update" things. The ceiling was […] awful. Reminded me of ceilings in school where the pieces push up and you can see into the wiring. Wasn't expecting florescent lightbulbs. The water was boiling hot. The bed was a Murphy bed. The TV remote didn't work for the TV that didn't conveniently face the bed nor couch. The heater was on high all night and I still needed socks and a sweater. The front desk lady was kind and helpful but had trouble finding a box of tissues because our dispenser was out when we walked in. She had to walk all over onto 3 different floors. I had trouble finding my room on the second floor. A couple who owns the hotel helped me find it. They asked me if I'd like to upgrade to a nicer room on the first floor. I said I was sure the room would be fine. When I entered, I saw why they'd offered. It looked exactly like it had in the 1940's but OLD (peeling paint, squeaky mattress and seriously […] musty smell). I could not get the wifi to come up. The desk clerk acknowledged there was some sort of deal with the placement of the router and some rooms had a harder time connecting. I told him in that case I'd happily accept the offer from the owners. He checked with them and apparently I'd misunderstood. This was not an offer to upgrade for free, lol. It was an offer to let me spend more money. I declined and asked to be moved to another room on the second room closer to the router. When I checked i that room, it was as old as the first but I was finally able to get online. I spoke with a man at breakfast (mighty slim pickings!) who'd spent the night in one of the "nicer' first floor rooms and he said not too impressive there either. The hotel itself was once quite lovely and may be so again some day but the owners need to put some more money into renovation. If they had extra better rooms on the first floor that night and had complimentarily upgraded me after the hassle I went through, I would have been satisfied and been a repeat customer and written a good review. This has great potential to be unique because of historic title, but it is a dump. Even remodeled rooms are iffy; and NO heat! Had really bad rooms for online reservation folks: lamps that fell apart, dirty carpets, cheaper mattresses. But cheapo did have base board heat, sorta. Sleep in your car.

I love to stay in historic places. If it's luxury you're looking for, ask about the renovated rooms with fireplaces. We got what we needed, a place to rest while touring the redwood forests, without over paying for it. It's off of CA101 so the street noise and transient problems that other places have wasn't a problem for us. I'd recommend.

Eureka is a funny place for hotels. Either you pay $$$ and stay at a B&B, or you stay at 2-3 star Motels on the freeway or downtown. Had'nt been there for 5 years and not much has changed. The Eureka Inn used to be "the spot" back in the day, but time, lack of maintenance, and apparently limited $$ from ownership have taken their toll. It is clean enough, […] especially in the lobby area, but the rooms are 2 star at best - not terrible, but very dated and in need of paint and new furniture, updated bathroom fixtures. I do like the location = 2 block stroll to the heart of downtown restaurants, etc so if I can continue to get a room at a reasonable rate, I will probably stay there again, but going in knowing what I am getting instead of how it used to be. I was under the impression the hotel was being upgraded. It turns out the first floor had been upgraded but I was staying on the 2nd floor. There were no rooms available on the 1st floor. Scary hotel, needs a lot of money spending on it, they have done a lot of renoing and you can see they have tried ??? BUT, the new beds and they where new, where the cheapes planks they could buy I am sure, new sheets and they where clean HOWEVER the old 1950,s or older blanket (The itchy type need to go) No tea, or coffee , no hair dryer. Good News […] free in room WIFY so you can book another place. we arrived at 9pm at night in a fog had we have gone in , in the day I would not have stayed here. The one memeber of staff was very nice when we told her the first room they gave us had ants running all over the bathroom and the towels and the smoke alarm had a low battery so she moved us 2 door down, My recomendation is they close down and open to the public when they are ready to be a great place to stay. We enjoyed our stay at the Eureka Inn. It is an older historic site with a grand and classic feel. There were a few things in our room that could have used a bit of repair, but we were very comfortable and enjoyed the ambiance. The lobby was beautifully restored, and I could tell it had had a great history.

I highly recommend this Inn. I am very critical with customer service and cleanliness and I give both an A+. This hotel is large and has many interesting characteristics. My GF and I enjoyed exploring the long hallways and reading all the tidbits of info around. The staff was very knowledgeable on the hotel history. The night manager and morning front desk girl were both abit cold to begin with but once we continued our check in/out process they warmed up.The lounge downstairs plays live music Fri and Sat night, and it was a great unexpected bonus to each night. Instead of having to go out and find music we just had to walk downstairs. Eureka is a quiet town so it was nice that the inn provided entertainment. The music doesn't go past midnight and if that is still too late they happily give you a room on the other side of the Inn. The bartender was outstanding! All of their beers are locally brewed and he explained each taste and let us sample them before deciding. NOt only will i stay here again, i will recommend to family and friends. Read more

Although a historic landmark, the hotel ownership uses this excuse for not remodeling the rooms or halls. There are rusty soap dishes, leaky faucets and showers, some mold in the bathrooms because there are no vent fans and instead of heat lamps in the bathrooms, someone screwed in fluorescent bulbs. Booked the room because I had gone to high school in Eureka and most everyone used the Eureka inn for senior balls, reunions and the like. Re the condition of the hotel, its understood that they are still in the process of renovation, so some of the furnishings or minor accessories are worn and there was a thin layer of dust in the room. We had a good visit. The hotel was old but had a very nice charm about it. They are still in renovations, but that did not bother our visit. Upon enetring the room it had a cleaning smell, but that left quickly when the window was opened. The front desk personnel were extremely polite and helpful.
