"Great choice!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Price and location were right. Grounds and maintainance inside and out were above average....flowers blooming everywhere! Front desk friendly and efficient. Room spacious and well appointed with 2 Q beds and new, big, flat screen TV (room 301). Towels were not lush, but there were 4 of them, so no issues!

"Good mid-price choice"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
This is a good choice if North Vancouver is your destination. Lots of shopping and eating in the market below the hotel, which is also where the parking is located. The more upscale and higher priced rooms get you further out towards the water, which can be worth it in terms of quiet and view.
"2 nights in Vancouver."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
Hotel was very clean and new. Hotel is in middle of Chinatown so you won't see many chain restaurants or food other than very traditional Asian.

"Horrible place"
This is a horrible, over-priced hotel. I paid for a room which I thought had "parking" included but it did not. So I gave the lady a $20 for the first nights parking. Next morning she called my room asking if I want parking for another day, so I said yes, just charge it on the card. When i went to check it she charged me for 2 nights of parking even […] though I already paid for one up front. I argued and still no change from them. The keycards always stop working which is inconvenient because I have to keep getting a new one. This place has horrible customer service and I will never go here again. Read more
"Handy location"
The room was clean, but because it's an old hotel the water pressure for the shower was very poor. Other than that the service was good and the location was great.

"Howard Johnson Hotel Downtown Vancouver"
Stayed on a weekend, very loud and noisy. NO PARKING...It took us 45 min to find a lot to park in. They have one parking lot adjacent to the hotel but it was full (abt 20 spots total) and the concierge told us to drive around and look for a lot!
"Howard Johnson on Granville ans Davie (Vancouver)"
Overall stay was worth $$ paid just due to hotel's location, close to DT, but it was the only positive thing about it. I stayed there for a week, on a day of departure I saw a mouse in my room! Also, the heating/AC unit needed a service, maybe changing a filter would help. I had a strange cough during all duration if my stay. It was getting worse at […] night and as soon as I moved out it stopped! I suspect it had something to do with the heating unit or the chemicals they use in a hallways/rooms? I didnt mentioned it to the staff as I was not too sure what is causing it but now I am certain it had a direct relation to the hotel or the room itself. The towels were changed daily, but the maid forgot to refill the coffee/tea once. Internet connections was very unstable, I could not use Skype for communicating with my family. Would not stay again. "Howard Johnson in Vancouver downtown"
the location is very convenient if you for a place in downtown closed to most of the hot spots of the city. The room was surprisingly very clean and comfy. There are different options to eat some food around for a very good rapport quality/price
"Howard Johnson - Granville St"
I recently stayed at the HoJo in Vancouver, in the cheapest room available, and I had a very positive experience. Friendly and helpful staff, clean, and the location is amazing! For the price I paid, I definitely feel that it was a worthwhile place to stay and would recommend this hotel to everyone.

"Howard Johnson in Downtown Vancouver"
This hotel had a great location to all the clubs and restaurants. They had a convenient parking lot close to the hotel. The front desk agents were friendly. Great for the price if you just want to be central to all bars.
"Howard Johnson Hotel Downtown Vancouver"
The only thing was the drapes didn't cover the window because of the AC stuck in the window. So had to pull them across the AC unit and tuck the one side into a door on the unit. OK after that. Great location. Close to many places to eat or drink or shop.
"Bug bites"
Received bug bites 3 of the 4 nights I stayed. Before the 4th night I made sure I spoke to the front desk and housekeeping to ensure the sheets were changed. Once I notified them, the seemed to make an effort to fix the problem.
"Great stay for a cheap price"
Its not a dance place but it does the trick! It's in a great location right in the heart of Granville street. If you are just needing a place to sleep this place is perfect!!

"What you'd expect for the price."
Price was good for the location. Rooms are a little small though, it's what you'd expect for the price.
"Very Nice Location"
The Location is great right in the middle of the going out area. We were there for New Years Eve and all the places we went were about 2 blocks away was awesome.
"downtown toronto hotel"
We needed a hotel last weekend (Thanks Giving) which happened to be the Grey Cup as well. The hotel was centrally located on a busy street but the room was comfortable although not plush (the hotel had seen better days). The cost was reasonable especially since it was on that particular weekend. Not necessarily planning on returning to that hotel but […] it was adequate. Read more
"I can't get no....!"
I read other reviews prior to booking and they suggested that if you wanted a quiet room with a somewhat nicer comforts, to reserve early and request a room near the back and up a few floors. I did exactly this only to be given a room directly across for the elevator and right above the entry to HJ and the adjourning bar/diner. One of the elevators […] was closed, he entry light didn't work, the bed was hard but the room was clean and staff did clean and change linens daily. The location was great if you enjoyed walking and sightseeing, which I do. Although the neighborhood looked downcast, folks were nice wherever I went and I was never bothered by anyone on all of my walks. I'm a leisurely walker and downtown Vancouver is beautiful. I'm also an early riser so I wasn't out beyond 10:30 but still, I never experienced any problems nor did I see any. My biggest disappointment was when I checked out. It wasn't until this point that I was informed that there would be additional costs associated with parking. Although the charges were comparable to daily parking charges in parking garages, I was under the impression it was included in my hotel fees. I was wrong. Overall, if your after a clean and secure place to spend the night and your not wanting to spend alot of time in your room, this is a decent and economical place to stay when compared to other locations in the same vicinity. "Howard Johnson Hotel Downtown Vancouver -noisy"
Terrible noise from trucks during night especially between 2-4am.
"Howard Johnsons YVR"
If you are looking for a new, upscale hotel, then this isnt for you. But it was perfect for my needs. Its an old building, but it has its charm. And the price is right! Friendly, helpful staff. Location is great.Lots of shopping, dining, and a really cool jazz club within close walking distance. If you have trouble sleeping, which i dont, you do not […] want a street side room. Lots of clubs around and it can get pretty loud late at night. I would stay here again. Read more
"HoJo Hotel Vancouver"
Not the worst hotel if you only need to stay for a night or two. Parking is very limited and expensive. They missed providing the basics like hand lotion, conditioner and sufficient towels. The location is not in the best part of town, but it is still convenient to walk to some of the shopping districts. You can hear all the noise of the street in your […] room, and you're forced to open the window because the rooms are uncomfortably stuffy. Also, the morning staff was not very friendly. The internet was a hassle, they changed the password one or twice a day. If you need anything printed you need to e-mail it to the hotel staff so that they can print it for you. Not the best arrangement if you need to print tickets with your personal information on them. Overall, not very convenient or hospitable. Read more

"Howard Johnson Vancouver - Granville."
Very disapointed. Smelled terrible - from the entrance to the room, which was very tiny and noisy. I definitely don't recommend this hotel!
"nice hotel!"
I really liked it. :) comfortable bed, nice and clean bathroom and nice quality of TV. Noisiness was not a problem(Hey we're right in the middle of the downtown. can't be quite there). Hotel itself was very quite. Has an air-conditioner and heater. actually, i expected mini-refrigerlator in this little hotel room but wasn't there. well i shouldve done […] ther research.. so i had to throw all food that i brought there. There's free hot-chocolate and coffee at community room, including few computers and comfy sofa. The one thing was, my friend was sick in the middle of the night and they did not have enoguh household medicine. Well maybe if you are worring bout being sick while you are staying at this hotel, take some medicine with you! be a good traveler :) Otherwise i really satisfied with this comfy-mood hotel and strongly recommend to stay here! The building was obviously very old yet had been improved to where its age did not take away from the comfort of the stay. We appreciated the location as it was convenient to everything we wanted. We used a bus tour that had a stop at the end of the block the hotel was on. There was an acceptable cafe for breakfast just a half block away. We enjoyed […] our stay at this hotel. Read more

"Howard Johnsons in downtown Vancouver"
The Hotel is located at a nice place on Granville St. The price we paid for it, was the best. The only problem was that the room we got was near the elevator, and everytime the adjoining room doors closed, there was a noise of the door closing from the room next door. Overall, It was very good. The internet access was a huge advantage over the high […] priced hotels like Pan Pacific and Fairmont. I would choose Howard Johnsons this location over them, which I stayed in for extra 3 days. Read more

"Think twice if you are driving."
1st, finding the parking lot is hard since there's no signage and have to go around twice just to find the parking lot with the help from best western signage. An open parking lot and you have to pay $20 and park at your own risk. The Lobby is good and the day shift receptionist got an attitude, but the night shift change the condition so I can say […] it was fair in overall remarks. The room is pretty good, kind a small, but it's clean and organized. You can also hear some foot step from the top floor and you can't close the curtains all the way. Read more

"Small and very clean hotel in Vancouver"
I was impressed by the cleanliness of my room. Good location to see all the sights in Vancouver and close to all transportation.
"Howard Johnson hotel in the Middle of the Action."
I recently visited the Howard Johnson hotel in Vancouver. The hotel is very convenient near restaurants, venue's, and clubs. It does get a bit noisy on the street side, but overall for the value not a bad option.
"Noisy Party Area"
This hotel is in a hot night spot so good if you want to party, not so good if you are on business. Room was not so clean, no shower curtain when I arrived, cracked sink, exposed pipes. Not the executive digs I’ve gotten used to. Street parking only and it’s expensive.
Excellent location !
"Don't book this hotel"
At check in the clerk demanded another 100 bucks from me for a deposit just in case I "damage" anything. Apparently it's some sort of 'party' place. The housekeeper warned me not to smoke in the room otherwise they'll keep my deposit. To top it off, wi fi is really slow.
"Good for short visit!"
I stayed for one night and it was fine but the surrounding area was interesting...there were lots of sirens, yelling and people up late. It wasn't close to many restaurants but did have a great one within the hotel! AWESOME Wings!!

"Howard Johnson Vancouver bc canada SUCKED"
it was ok. they didnt have a bell boy and parking was not as i expected they didnt have a side door and i was terrfied i would get mugged its a busy night club scene street so lots of high class drunks just be careful when brining you luggage in. the lady in the front wasnt very helpful. they needed a 100 dollars to put on hold for the room which i […] think is too high. and parking is 20 dollars a night mind you that it isnt really even that safe. lit convenient or paved. i do how ever like how in order to get into the actual hotel rooms u need to use a key as well as the elevatos so its secured that way the rooms r way to noisey cause of the clubs outside BUT the beds r super comfortable i slept for hours and hours omg! overall it was ok i would stay again at a different howard johnson just not this one Read more
A clean & comfortable hotel situated right in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Very convenient for walking to all downtown sightseeing spots. Parking was limited & pretty expensive, CAD$19 per nite, but definitely appreciated the hotel allowing us to park till 3pm on the day of check-out.
"HoJo Downtown Vancouver"
Was plesantly surprised! After reading previous reviews my expectations were very low. I only needed hotel for 1 night as transition point from Whistler to YVR airport - so I chose this hotel for its very afforadable price. The font desk staff was very professional, firendly, and efficient. Room was clean, comfortable, and nice. I am assuming that […] I was in one of the remodeled rooms. Didn't experience any problems with rodents, etc. Stayed on a room on Granville street 2nd floor - was a little noisy, but not unusual for a hotel in a large city. (I was not in a room over the nigth club). Would definityle stay here again, price and location are great. (But parking a touch expensive at CAN$ 20). Read more
"Small room, but great location"
The room was a bit smaller than expected, but very nice. Sort of strange, there was glitter all over the floor/wall.
"Good value"
If you want to be close to major downtown attractions and public transit, this is a very good choice. It's an older hotel that has been rehabbed, quite nicely -- small room but large, bright, clean bathroom. Granville street can be noisy. I had a room in the back which was quiet and comfortable. Three blocks from the Yaletown SkyTrain station, about […] six blocks from the Yaletown mini-ferry dock. Close to Davies Street restaurants, and a short busride (or longer walk) to Granville Island. "Howard Johnson"
Good location. Close to most things - shopping, clubbing, restaurants. can be a bit dodgy at night. Not recommended if you are staying long. The rooms are a bit dinghy and corridors have a weird smell. There is a pub and club at the lobby so can get a bit noisy especially weekends.
"Get Less Than You Pay For"
This hotel was in an older section of town that was reflected in a general rougher edge and by a greater number of street people. The off street parking was minimal and awkward to leave not to mention it was over $18 day (higher than listed on your web site and about the same cost as the Pan Pacific hotel). The room had a very unpleasant odor of urine […] as did the rest of the halls. Read more
"Howard Johnson Hotel in Vancouver"
The room rate was excellent. Definitely a bargain buy if you're just looking for a clean place to stay overnight w/o breaking the bank. The location is convenient enough. Only 7 blocks away from the waterfront and bus routes surrounding the hotel makes travel very convenient around downtown Vancouver. It's not quite as close as some of the other hotels […] closer to the waterfront, but it's definitely within walking distance. The service was excellent. Nobody bothered me at all. Questions about the city were answered very precisely, so the front desk people definitely know what they're doing. There's a kiosk nearby that you can dial out to the transportation service of the city to ask questions about specific bus routes if you need to find out. The only complaint I would have of this hotel is the noise from the nearby bar/nightclubs. If you can't sleep through some city noise, as Granville Rd is a fairly busy street at night, then this may not be the ideal hotel for you. Also the shower doesn't heat up very fast at all. Aside from those two things, it was a rather pleasant stay. Read more

They gave me a room in the very back . 2 beds - not one big one. the view of a brick wall. there was damage on the walls and bed side tables. I was giving […] a room not used much.
