Cedar Rapids is not exactly the Mecca of 5 star hotels and resorts but this Holiday Inn Express did the trick for a quick overnight stay. The front desk staff was extremely pleasant upon check-in, even telling us about a local 'festival' that was happening. There are some repairs being done at present but I think it was primarily painting. The hotel […] looks nice and fresh -- and I think the pool was just resurfaced. Yes, there was a pool! There was complimentary breakfast in the morning consisting of more substantial items than just pastries -- eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy -- and the gentleman taking care of it all was extremely helpful and quick to make sure that everything was refilled. One thing I would say about hotels.com is that we booked a room with two beds and ended up with a room with one queen and a sleeper sofa. It wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world but apparently when you book on this sight, it can happen. They front desk staff was extremely accommodating regardless and the room amply served its purpose. In terms of location, Cedar Rapids isn't all that large, and while our destination was on a different side of town, the easy access to the interstate proved very helpful and all of our drives were short ones. There are also several diner type restaurants and gas stations very close. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Wonderful!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Clean, neat and comfortable even though remodeling. Had to make a change to reservation made thru a booking agent-even though Holiday Inn couldn't make the change they helped me with contact info. Only negative was evening check in was busy with only one clerk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
rooms were comfortable and nice. Breakfast had quite a variety! Place was a little noisy though, could hear things when we were in our rooms out in hall and above usGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Undergoing Some Renovations"
Several items kept me from giving this hotel a 5. It was currently undergoing renovations and the ice machine on the third floor was out of order. Otherwise it was an enjoyable stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice Cedar Rapids Stop"
My folks and I have stayed here many times and it is always a pleasant experience. Highly recommend. Our stay started of splendidly when the clerk was able to get us into the room way early. Kids loved the pool. Breakfast was pretty good. Only complaint is that the eggs tasted like they were out there for a little too long. But, in their defense, we […] didn't see anyone else down there eating so I don't blame them for wasting the food. The attendant asked if we wanted fresh so that makes up for it. "Good for Iowa football games"
Clean, well-maintained, and comfortable hotel with great customer service. Location is ideal to get on 380 and head to Kinnick - really a quick trip there and back.Genuine Expedia guest review

Completely acceptableGenuine Expedia guest review
Comfortable. Staff was very attentive, from the front desk to the guy taking care of the breakfast area in the morning. They offered fruits and newspaper on arrival and the front desk looked up my Priority club membership number and completed my registration smoothly. Overall pleasant stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to stay for UI football weekend"
09/18/14 cpjlaj illinois
We were at the University of Iowa football game and only wanted to stay one night. There is a two night minimum in almost all Iowa City and Coralville hotels during football weekends. Not to mention the outrageous prices ($299 per night at the Hampton Inn. Really???). I started looking into surrounding areas and came across this Holiday Inn Express for $90 on a Saturday night. It had excellent reviews so I decided it was worth a try. We couldn't have been more pleased with this hotel. It was very clean and well decorated. The beds were comfortable and the towels were extra, extra soft. The hotel was quiet and it's in a good location right off of the interstate. Definitely worth the 20 minute drive! My only complaint - and this is my complaint with a lot of hotels who have a breakfast buffet available - is that the serving time is clearly stated as 6-10 A.M. I observed many people coming downstairs from 9:55-10:00 AM, planning to eat breakfast. The gentleman in charge continued to scurry around boxing food up and taking things away as people were trying to put food onto a plate. Not only is it rude, it's not good business to treat your paying customers that way. Put the trays, bags, and boxes away until 10:05 AM!
"Reinforces my last review"

I gave an excellent review last time I stayed here and this time was no different. I was upgraded to a Queen suite. I was surprised Troy at the front desk remembered my last name and even the conversation we had about a D1 Football prospect last time I stayed here. This same young man committed to Iowa State a month ago which is what we hoped would happen last time. I asked Troy for dinner suggestions. He mentioned Cancun had opened a second location next to Burger King which is walking distance. Also the evening reception is a nice gesture. The meat balls were excellent. Made it so I couldn't eat all of my meal at Cancun. Troy advised me on what time I needed to be at the airport for my early morning flight. Chocolate chip cookies were delicious but I sure didn't need them. I already have a reservation for early January and am looking forward to it.
"Enjoyed our stay here"

We stayed here for 3 nights over memorial/graduation weekend. We enjoyed our stay here very much! The front desk clerk Troy is friendly and made us feel very welcome during our stay. I do not remember the man's name who was in charge of the breakfast area, but he was also very friendly and always greeted hotel guest when you would come down to breakfast. Our room was big and spacious. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. It has a nice pool and hot tub which I enjoyed using while staying here. I will stay here again when I'm in the Cedar Rapids area again!

I have been staying at this hotel for many years and have never been disappointed. Troy is always helpful and will do whatever it takes to make your stay the best. Cancun Restaurant is within walking distance, serving up fantastic Mexican food and the best margarita.
"Do you like trains?"
06/26/14 Jaf1591 Statesboro, Georgia
Clean and staff was attentive. But...the first time I heard the train whistle, it made me smile...the whistles in the middle of the night did not. Ask for a room on the front of the building or use a really good sound machine!
"Well kept hotel, but no airport shuttle"
05/01/14 daviding Toronto, Canada
For an unexpected overnight stay near Cedar Rapids airport, I used the Tripadvisor web site to select hotels that offer shuttle bus service. The friend who I was originally supposed to stay with picked me up in his car, and drove me to the hotel. When I checked in, I asked to confirm that the hotel had shuttle bus service to the airport. The manager said, "no, we haven't had that in 5 years"! Rather than driving to another place, I decided to let it go, and booked a taxi for the morning departure. Thus, following the Tripadvisor listings, I paid for a taxi for $20 plus tip that I hadn't originally expected. I would stay at the this hotel again. It's clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. While I appreciate the label of "Holiday Inn Express" with the breakfast buffet included, the "Suites" would be a liberty. I was assigned a regular bedroom, and don't know if other units might have a separate sitting area. Of course, I came in rather ragged -- I normally reserve online in advance -- so the check-in staff didn't know that I was a Gold member -- so I can't necessarily fault them for handling a walk-in and then getting all of the information straight later.
"Average Hotel, Friendly Staff"
03/02/14 B19763 Huntsville, Alabama
Unfortunately I was at this hotel on business travel for 10 days. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, and the room was clean. Managing the temperature in the room was a constant battle with the window unit, and unfortunately it made the air very dry. The walls are very thin, and I could hear the TVs from the rooms on either side. The fitness center is not much bigger than a closet room next to the pool... adequate if you want to run on the treadmill staring at the wall. It has a very convenient location, and there is a Chili's right next door and a Panera Bread just down the street.
"Nice hotel stay - fairly standard for HEI"
01/24/14 Tom H Minneapolis, Minnesota
Recently stayed here a night on business and was pleased with the usual Holiday Inn Express offering. Price was good and the staff was friendly. A hot breakfast was included. Bed offered good sleep quality and the room was clean.

Stayed here recently as I had a conference in CR early the next morning. Troy, young man at the front desk was outstanding! He appears way mature beyond being only out of high school one year. He helped me with directions to a place to eat and was very friendly when I checked in and at the manager's reception that evening. Also had a nice upgrade for my Platinum level. Nice place to stay when flying out of CR also.
"Great motel in a great location!"
08/15/13 JerBob Kingsport, Tennessee
Upon booking this room I was apprehensive about the location being in a more "industrial" area of Cedar Rapids on the south side of town. I'm happy to say that noise nor industry was an issue for my stay here. In the great Holiday Inn Express fashion, the rooms were clean and spacious, it was close to everything including food and shopping, and the motel was clean and upkeep excellent!! Breakfast was great as usual and although we couldn't park our motorcycles under the veranda, we were able to park them handily in spaces next to it and were able to access them easily. I'd highly recommend this HI Express!!
