Clean, neat and comfortable even though remodeling. Had to make a change to reservation made thru a booking agent-even though Holiday Inn couldn't make the change they helped me with contact info. Only negative was evening check in was busy with only one clerk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
rooms were comfortable and nice. Breakfast had quite a variety! Place was a little noisy though, could hear things when we were in our rooms out in hall and above usGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Undergoing Some Renovations"
Several items kept me from giving this hotel a 5. It was currently undergoing renovations and the ice machine on the third floor was out of order. Otherwise it was an enjoyable stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice Cedar Rapids Stop"
My folks and I have stayed here many times and it is always a pleasant experience. Highly recommend. Our stay started of splendidly when the clerk was able to get us into the room way early. Kids loved the pool. Breakfast was pretty good. Only complaint is that the eggs tasted like they were out there for a little too long. But, in their defense, we […] didn't see anyone else down there eating so I don't blame them for wasting the food. The attendant asked if we wanted fresh so that makes up for it. "Cedar Rapids Holiday Inn Expr - great for gameday"
good location on the south side of Cedar Rapids. There were plenty people heading to the game at UI. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. The only issue was the train whistles we could hear from the nearby tracks.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"If it could go wrong, it did go wrong"
I should have known from the moment that I walked in the door that this was not going to be a good stay. The clerk at the front desk was having an argument on the phone. I hope that it was for business, but it sounded like she was arguing with her boyfriend or husband. I and three other people stood in line for over ten minutes while the phone escapades […] continued. Whether it was business or a personal call, she should not have conducted herself so unprofessionally with guests waiting on her. Next I go up to my room. The person that I share the elevator with jokes, "Are you sure you want to take this elevator? It broke down yesterday with seven of us stuck in it." This probably explained why most of her very large party took the stairs all night. Those stairs are located right outside of the executive suite I was staying in. If the banging door (and it did bang) didn't wake me up, the air conditioner or the fridge with a missing foot that made it off balance shaking did. The air conditioner sounded like an airplane taking off every time it started, and it was over 100 degrees out, so it ran a lot. The fridge shimmied and shook and made knocking noises. At four-thirty, after waking up at least twice every hour, I decided I wasn't going to be able to sleep anymore and I went to take a shower. The water wasn't ice cold, but it wasn't anything resembling warm. I even let it run for five minutes, but it stayed chilly. I hopped in the shower and tried to hurry, but I never shower quickly when I'm exhausted. As I was finishing rinsing, the water went from cold to scald-your-skin-off hot. Other grievances were that the hotel listed having premium channels and HBO on this site for my room, but my room didn't when I got there. My TV had a black dot right in the middle where someone must have knocked it around, and the pixels there were out. It was very distracting. But this isn't even the worst part. Apparently the clerk that checked me in didn't see that I had booked with Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Comfortable. Staff was very attentive, from the front desk to the guy taking care of the breakfast area in the morning. They offered fruits and newspaper on arrival and the front desk looked up my Priority club membership number and completed my registration smoothly. Overall pleasant stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Enjoyed our stay here"
07/14/14 Soupie S Moore, Oklahoma
We stayed here for 3 nights over memorial/graduation weekend. We enjoyed our stay here very much! The front desk clerk Troy is friendly and made us feel very welcome during our stay. I do not remember the man's name who was in charge of the breakfast area, but he was also very friendly and always greeted hotel guest when you would come down to breakfast. Our room was big and spacious. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. It has a nice pool and hot tub which I enjoyed using while staying here. I will stay here again when I'm in the Cedar Rapids area again!

I have been staying at this hotel for many years and have never been disappointed. Troy is always helpful and will do whatever it takes to make your stay the best. Cancun Restaurant is within walking distance, serving up fantastic Mexican food and the best margarita.
"Do you like trains?"

Clean and staff was attentive. But...the first time I heard the train whistle, it made me smile...the whistles in the middle of the night did not. Ask for a room on the front of the building or use a really good sound machine!
"Well kept hotel, but no airport shuttle"
05/01/14 daviding Toronto, Canada
For an unexpected overnight stay near Cedar Rapids airport, I used the Tripadvisor web site to select hotels that offer shuttle bus service. The friend who I was originally supposed to stay with picked me up in his car, and drove me to the hotel. When I checked in, I asked to confirm that the hotel had shuttle bus service to the airport. The manager said, "no, we haven't had that in 5 years"! Rather than driving to another place, I decided to let it go, and booked a taxi for the morning departure. Thus, following the Tripadvisor listings, I paid for a taxi for $20 plus tip that I hadn't originally expected. I would stay at the this hotel again. It's clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. While I appreciate the label of "Holiday Inn Express" with the breakfast buffet included, the "Suites" would be a liberty. I was assigned a regular bedroom, and don't know if other units might have a separate sitting area. Of course, I came in rather ragged -- I normally reserve online in advance -- so the check-in staff didn't know that I was a Gold member -- so I can't necessarily fault them for handling a walk-in and then getting all of the information straight later.
"Average Hotel, Friendly Staff"

Unfortunately I was at this hotel on business travel for 10 days. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, and the room was clean. Managing the temperature in the room was a constant battle with the window unit, and unfortunately it made the air very dry. The walls are very thin, and I could hear the TVs from the rooms on either side. The fitness center is not much bigger than a closet room next to the pool... adequate if you want to run on the treadmill staring at the wall. It has a very convenient location, and there is a Chili's right next door and a Panera Bread just down the street.
"Nice hotel stay - fairly standard for HEI"

Recently stayed here a night on business and was pleased with the usual Holiday Inn Express offering. Price was good and the staff was friendly. A hot breakfast was included. Bed offered good sleep quality and the room was clean.

Stayed here recently as I had a conference in CR early the next morning. Troy, young man at the front desk was outstanding! He appears way mature beyond being only out of high school one year. He helped me with directions to a place to eat and was very friendly when I checked in and at the manager's reception that evening. Also had a nice upgrade for my Platinum level. Nice place to stay when flying out of CR also.
"Great motel in a great location!"
08/15/13 JerBob Kingsport, Tennessee
Upon booking this room I was apprehensive about the location being in a more "industrial" area of Cedar Rapids on the south side of town. I'm happy to say that noise nor industry was an issue for my stay here. In the great Holiday Inn Express fashion, the rooms were clean and spacious, it was close to everything including food and shopping, and the motel was clean and upkeep excellent!! Breakfast was great as usual and although we couldn't park our motorcycles under the veranda, we were able to park them handily in spaces next to it and were able to access them easily. I'd highly recommend this HI Express!!
"Decent at reasonable rate"

Portions of The lobby and common halls were under repairs so they we're not too eye appealing but I guess didnt really matter as I didn't hang out in the lobby or in the hall much, so.... This was the first Holiday Inn I have been to in which they did a free managers reception type event in the evening. They had some mini chicken salad sandwiches and some chip type munches. Along with the food two free beverages were given (beer, soda, or wine coolers). Wasn't bad and a nice plus since I haven't had that at a Holiday Inn prior. Room was clean and large. Selection of TV channels was good. The desk. Hair was not too comfortable, but.... The beds were probably really the only item which wasn't good or better. They just felt older and not too comfortable. I still slept without too much problem as i could sleep just about anywhere, but could see how might be an issue for some. The breakfast was standard breakfast for most hotels these days. Fairly decent and gets you going in the morning. Decent stay and would stay here again if in the area.
"Pretty good stay"
07/21/13 elcheap0 Lecompton, Kansas
The hotel is under renovation so it looks slightly unkept on the inside (not the rooms, but the hallway and lobby area) but not a big deal. Free breakfast is wonderful and I'm glad the wifi is actually usable, even if a little slow. Customer service was great. Front desk gave my room a rang to make sure everything was in order. View was wonderful if you like views of warehouses. Hotel was pretty quiet which is a plus. I definitely would stay again. I went to my car to throw my things in it and had breakfast. When I went up to my room to check I had everything (I left a few things there but I was going to get them), the custodians told me they thought I left and noted the front desk. How awesome is that? Very friendly staff, I would recommend staying here.
