The Morgan Temple Bar - Dublin Castle

A short guide to Temple Bar - Dublin Castle

This small enclave by the river was developed into Dublin’s Cultural Quarter in the 1980s, and soon became the city’s nightlife centre. Temple Bar is still devoted to eating, drinking, entertainment, and shopping. By day, it’s an arty alternative hangout; by night, groups of partying tourists make it a rowdier haunt. Near the famous Ha’penny Bridge, Merchants’ Arch retains some of the area’s atmosphere from a century or so ago.

Located centrally, however, the morgan tends to cater to those who like to stay up all evening. Unfortunately our first floor room was over their dj/dance floor. The lound music and heavy bass didn't allow for any relaxing or sleeping until at least 2am. I would recommond other visitors to stay in other areas of the city if you like to get up and get going in the morning.

Overall, this is the type of hotel I like staying in. Nice bar, good food, trendy enviornment and helpful staff. However, the rooms are something all together different. I have never stayed in a room so small. It was laughable. There were two of us with two suitcases so there was no where left to walk. The carpets were stained and really need to be replaced. My friend joined us the second night and had the same room. She was upgraded to another the room the next night because she need to internet service to communicate with her office and she was moved to a room that was spacious. Basically her room was what you see in the pictures and was fantastic. My room was the size of a broom closet and had no air condidtioning. Her's did. All in all, I felt I paid way too much for a room of that size. I'll travelled through a great deal of Europe and never encountered a room so small. I found Lauren at reception were helpful with restaurant recommendations. The location is great but unless I can get a decent sized room, I would not return. I should warn guests that on the weekends, the restaurant turns into a club so if you are looking for a quiet stay this is not the place for you.

The hotel is priced like most in the temple bar area for it's location. It is a trendy hotel with a great location for Temple bar. However, the rooms are small, and the bed was the worst bed I've ever slept on. The hotel is in a busy location and because of that it can be quite loud at night. We ended up getting another hotel when we came back into Dublin, which had larger rooms and a much better bed and was only across the river from Temple bar

The hotel is right in the midst of the mayhem of Temple Bar, but it's pretty good at insulating the noise from outside. The noise on the inside was a different matter altogether. The first night they put us in Room 109 which is right next to the stairwell. The door to the stairwell would slam everytime it closed so you can hear the door slamming all day and all night as the room was on the first floor. They moved us to Room 106 and that was a lot better. They tried to prop the door opened after we complained but it would soon slam again. I did not sleep at all the first night because the slamming door kept waking me up. Unless they've fixed that door, I would recommend avoiding Room 108-110.

The front desk staff had impeccable knowledge Dublin, they advised us which where the main attractions to see and how to get there, and offered taxi and public transport options. Overall the hotel is very well run we couldn't have hope for a better hotel. Malcome and the team including Lavia and Laura where available to tend to every need. The location of the hotel was fantasic, can be a bit noisy at times from the street but not so much so for it to be an issue its easy to walk to many places from the hotel including attractions, shops, clubs and bars so is ideal for any occassion, the rooms are well equipped and clean, the Luxury rooms were second to none and made the setting perfect for our romantic getaway. there was a very modern and busy bar, and cosy outdoor area we had absolutly no complaints what so ever, we would not hesitate to recommend to family and friend and would certainly visit again

This hotel is smack in the middle of Temple Bar (next to Hard Rock Cafe), so it is noisy and bustling especially on the weekend. Checked in on a Saturday evening, and the lobby lounge was packed with younger, loud, partying hard crowd. The check-in desk closely borders the lounge so I could hardly hear the checkin receptionist! But checkin was smooth, and off to my 4th floor room, where we could hear none of the bustle from the lounge. The room was quite large, more like a suite, but I am not sure this is typical of all the rooms. But great value for what I paid, very clean with very contemporary and cool design. The services could be better, after I checked out I realized I left my blazer in the room closet, and it took 2 days for staff to retrieve it and confirm to me that they had it. (I had to constantly call to follow up).. Other than that, I would recommend this hotel, especially if you can get a good competitive rate compared to others in Temple Bar.

I would recommend this hotel simply because of the location. The hotel is conveniently located right in temple bar and is a few minutes walk from everything you'd want to see in Dublin (Trinity College, Grafton Street, O'Connell Bridge, and Dublin Castle). However, hotel itself was not nearly as nice as it appears to be on the website. The decor on the website looks elegant and modern. In reality, the hotel was dark and the furniture/decoration was really tacky. The room was tiny, the bed had almost no bedding, and like other reviewers, my main complaint was the noise at night. We stayed there on a Thursday night in November, so Temple Bar itself was not really that busy or loud. The noise was actually coming from the hotel's own bar, which was blasting music until very late at night even though there really wasnt anyone there. And then in the early morning, there was a lot of loud banging of moving furniture and slamming doors in the hotel. My boyfriend and I both had trouble sleeping, which is amazing because, the windows were closed, I am a very heavy sleeper, and we were exhausted from our flight. It is just an extremely noisy hotel.

Bathroom had a lot of dust. Bed wasn't overly comfortable, although bathrobes, towels etc were lovely, as were pillows. Be aware if you're staying at the Morgan, there is a DJ playing until very late at weekends - can clearly be heard in rooms - as can all noise from Temple Bar!! Weekend nights are incredibly loud until about 2 or 3am. The bar downstairs is cute - decor is nice - and obviously a good place to party, but so so loud. The front desk was apologetic to the fact that the room smelled and graciously comped a breakfast. So they do try. Checking in took a long time too for some reason, but that could have been a fluke considering the marathon was the next day - so the hotel may have gotten a big swell of guests all at once. The smell ruined the stay though. it was awful.

We were going to Dublin for one night with two other couples so we booked The Morgan because it seemed a good location. We were under the impression it was not right in Temple Bar so would be a bit quieter - unfortunately not the case! It was fine for us because we were not needing an early night but if you are, avoid this hotel! On arriving we were given an upgrade to The Morgan Suite, it was stunning! It was over two levels and very trendy. We did have a problem getting the lights to work but it was a small price to pay for such a great room. Our friends rooms were clean, modern but very small and they didn't have baths. The service was not the best, some check-in staff didn't know what they were doing and none of them seemed particularly friendly, especially compared to the great service we received in restaurants, bars and even on the buses! I would stay in the hotel again because I like clean, modern rooms and we generally are not in the hotel enough to let unfriendly staff bother us. Overall, I thought it was a good hotel in a fantastic central (but noisy)location!

Room was very clean, although a bit cramped. Staff was helpful and accommodating, and they will hold your luggage until opening. Slept like a baby with comfortable bedding, and was able to adjust heating to suit. Shower is a dream!! Just one nitpicky thing: no toilet paper holder, which seemed strange.

I was so dissapointed it took my breath away. We had spent the previous night at a 3 star hotel just down the road that we loved, The staff was great. The room impressive with great amenities. Because we couldnt get a second night there we went for the 4 star Morgan. Terrible. The bathroom had a black mold only a bit hiddin by the peeling paint. The sink was slipping from its base and the picture in the bed area was dangling from one nail. I asked the desk about these things and they assured me they woud check it out. When we returned from our day of touring, nothing had changed. The following day when we checked out I again mentioned it to the desk (the same woman) and she said oh yes they are under construction those rooms.

This was our second stay at the Morgan. It is in the heart of Temple Bar, the entertainment and student area near Trinity University. The area is lively and noisy, and the rooms are not necessarily quiet. Hotel is a contemporary designer's showplace -- fascinating fittings and furniture, although not a comfortable chair in the room. Service is quiet but extraordinary. We would go back, even without a good chair. I would rate it at 4 stars, not the 3 that it has.

Reviewed by Soleil of Fort Myers, FL on Jul 9, 2007

This hotel is in the heart of the Temple Bar District. And rooms on Fleet Street guarantee that you will be awake with really, really loud music and drunken revellers until about 3 a.m. (even with the pubs closing at 11!) then an hour of some quiet until the business traffic begins. Without air conditioning the choice is to open the window and stay awake or close the window, muffle the noise somewhat, and get a headache from the stiffiness. Our shower faucet controls fell off the wall, one of the sink handles did as well... Beds were not comfortable and pillows were FLAT. I'm a travel agent and I recommend you avoid this location unless you want to party all night either in person or remotely!

Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Apr 4, 2007

The hotel is located in the heart of Temple Bar and has a trendy bar with a good variety of cocktails. The rooms were fairly spacious, very comfortable and clean with contemporary decoration and lots of pillows. The common spaces could use some touch-ups, especially to the dry wall. The breakfast was good but also very expensive: approximately 50? per day for two people. Street noise on the weekend nights and early mornings could be a problem for light sleepers. Overall impression: if you want to stay at a trendy hotel in a great location, this is a good choice. If you're on a budget, go elsewhere for your food and drinks.

We were upgraded and our room was gorgeous-all in all a wonderful time in Dublin

The lift is made of bedding material and smells of a steak dinner. I couldn't open the mini bar (without breaking it). There was no mirror in the bathroom - where are you supposed to shave? I attempted to order a film twice and each time the Phillips 26" flat screen would shut off for 20 minutes.

I chose this hotel after being very impressed with the Morgan in New York, but the one in Dublin was disappointing. The hotel is great-looking and perfectly clean, however the bathroom and some of the furniture in our room was quite shabby. The service (in reception and at breakfast) was also disappointing. It was not bad but considering the price per night of this hotel I expected it to be much, much better. Overall they need to pick up their standards.

What we had heard is that the Morgan was a unique experience. My room was almost totally white with no distinctive features. A handle in the bathtub was essentially hanging off the wall and lost a screw while I was showering. I came back to the hotel late and the door was locked. I had to seek help from someone next door. The nightclub downstairs was exceedingly noisy which made it impossible to sleep. When I went to the restaurant for Breakfast, I got no service and chose to go elsewhere after about 20 minutes.I'm not sure I would stay there again.

Our room was lovely, a little on the small side - but was very comfortable and nicely appointed Would definitely stay there again
