I am hardly the most discerning vacationer but stay away from this place. Receptionists at the desk were impolite. When I arrived in the hotel around 9AM, I was told that I cannot check in before 2PM. After flying more than 20 hours and spending in total about 30 hours on the way from Europe to Sydney, it was extremely disappointing not to get a room within an acceptable time. Even more disappointing is that the Capitol Square […] Hotel Sydney does not have a decent lobby where a customer can rest a little bit while the room is prepared. Unfortunately the hotel is now showing its age. Although the room was neat and clean, the bathroom is quite dated and in need of update rather than just patching it together. Really good location, reasonable price. Breakfast is was really amazing value. Definitely worth paying the extra for if you can in your booking. The single bed in the family room was extremely soft though, so be warned.

Night of my arrival I told reception that iron was not working and requested a replacement iron that night as I had a court appearance next morning and wanted to iron my shirt/trousers tonight. Reception said they would try to get me a replacement iron by 10.00pm or next morning. Next morning I still had no iron at 7.35am so I rang reception who said […] they would get one sent to me. I received a replacement iron at 8.00am. I started ironing my shirt then noticed black marks on my shirt. I checked face of iron and found it was half covered in a blackened burnt state. I showed my shirt and iron to reception on checking out and was given a 20% discount on room cost for my troubles. Unfortunately, in light of how long it took you to replace a faulty iron and then only with a defective iron which dirtied my shirt (lucky I bought a spare shirt) and forced me to attend court with clothes that were not ironed I cannot recommend your hotel. I would say your hotel is at best a 2 star establishment based on issues with my stay of faulty equipment and tradiness to rectify the identified faulty equipment in a reasonable amount of time. Overpriced for what it but contrary to that the location is good. No Wi-Fi and $20 a day is a joke when booking for a few days. The cleaning staff were nice but have to say that the front staff were quite moderate on entry. Overall an average experience. Service was excellent. It i right next door to Starbucks which offers 30 min free wifi so skipped the paid for service in the hotel and just had cappucino next door. One of the reception staff, a Chinese woman, recommended a very good Chinese restaurant, Zilver, just around the corner, about a 2 minute walk and it was excellent.

This was incredibly expensive for what you got. While the location is great, the amenities were poor. The air conditioning did not work, the satellite TV did not work, there is no wifi at all in the building. There is one elevator for six floors of guests.

So convenient when staying overnight after seeing a show at The Capitol Theatre. Bed was clean and comfortable but the carpet in the room badly needed cleaning and curtains need replacing. The staff at capitol square were friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was well spread. The rooms sere quickly serviced. However the room we ended upgrading to was very bad. The floorboards creaked. The window didn't close properly, leaking outside road noise into the room making it hard to sleep. The bathroom equaust vent didn't work turning the room […] into a sauna whenever someone showered.
