"Great Location, excellent staff"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Stayed here on our honeymoon, couldn't have asked for a better place for the money. The staff was extremely helpful with speedy check in/out. Concierge staff was on their A game the entire time. Room was cleaned daily and very comfortable. The bar was nice but a bit expensive ( but that's London). Vauxhall tube station is only a five minute walk which isn't bad at all. There is a grocery store next door that has about everything you need. Was a great stay.

very nice would stay in it at anytime
The person before us had obviously smoked in the room and it was like living in an ashtray. Also, the wifi access lasted a few hours and we had to go get new access codes a few times a day. Very weak. Everything else was great.

"Very nice hotel - great central location"
I had not stayed with this chain before, but my wife and I were pleasantly surprised at the accomodations. Friendly staff greeted us as we entered and left each day, and the hotel is very close to the Holborn tube station for easy access. We chose this because of reasonable rates, good proximity to a variety of sightseeing attractions and positive feedback. […] We were not disappointed. If you appreciate excellent value for the money, this is a great choice. Read more

"Citadine - Holborn Has Issues"
Love London. Love being close to Red Line Underground. Although, MANY issues with Citadine. The "smoke" detector went off EACH and EVERY time we took a shower. They would call the room asking us to open the window. That was the only time you could get in contact with the front desk by the way. They never answered when we tried to call down for other […] things. We did as instructed and still set off their alarm each day. It was beyond annoying. Each day they change the wi-fi login and password so you have to walk down to get it if you want to check the weather or days events from your mobile device. Remember, they don't answer the phone! So in my pj's I had to go down. The beds are stiff and the pillows are stiffer. The walls are paper thin and they never cleaned our room once and we stayed 4 nights. The coffee machine in the lobby was nice though. Now if it weren't for this last issue, I probably wouldn't have given a review like this.... We booked a cab service through Citadines for our ride to Gatwick at 6am. We specifically asked if they company took credit cards and was told yes. In fact, they also give a discount off the 80 pounds since booking with Citadines. We were satisfied and took the cab. At arrival at Gatwick, the driver asked for the 80 pounds CASH! We of course didn't have 80 left at this point. Not only did we NOT get the discount because Citadines did it wrong, but I had to run into the airport (the WRONG terminal as well I may add because the desk attendant evidently guessed instead of saying he didn't know which terminal US Airways flew out of) and take cash out of the ATM. What should have been 60 pounds was 80, plus a transaction fee, service charge from 2 banks, 3% international fee and my stress. This was unacceptable and could have ruined our flight home (thankfully we left plenty early.) I've been to Europe before and although Holborn is a safe area, I'd stay anywhere other than the Citadines. It was not a pleasurable experience overall. Read more
"Nice hotel in great area!"
The room are suites with kitchen. We only stayed one night so didn't really get to take advantage of the facilities. Room was nice. Staff was nice and helpful. Had to use the washer/dryer because Delta lost our luggage and that was a bit expensive. Overall, I would stay there again.
Hotel is very nice, bigger than other places we stayed. Had a gym and place to do laundry. Believe write-up said sound proof rooms---definitely not. We were on first floor and near where trucks unloaded food supplies and also garbage pickup. It was quiet at night though. Room had fridge and mircrowave---actual kitchen area. Room was not serviced one […] of our three days and had to ask for towels. Would stay again if I were to get a good price. Got our room much lower than normal rates. I did like a smaller hotel we stayed in due to personability of staff and less noise with less rooms and quests. Read more
"Citadines Prestige Holborn-Covent Garden"
The Citadines at Holborn was a real find. It's in a great and very convenient location, service was great, it's nicely furnished and the kitchen and bathroom were very well-designed. I would definitely stay there again and will now look into other Citadine hotels in other cities.

"Price is for location and expensive lobby coffee"
High price of hotel reflects great central location, free coffee and recent renovations. Room price does not include basic amenities like hair dryer, tissues, sufficient cooking equipment (no cooking spatula, can opener), body lotion. We had better experiences at other Citadines (such as those in heart of Paris) with better/more amenities, better quality […] renovation, better view than air shaft, and better room price. Go in with lower expectations, get a room as deeply discounted at possible and you will be very happy with your stay. Read more
"Nice Place"
Room was spacious. Kitchen was nice. Bed comfy. And bathroom nice and had a tub. Would certainly stay there again.
"Average hotel with not the most comfortable room."
The rooms are not as big as other Citadines I've stayed nor as comfortable. This one was let down by a window facing a wall, hard floors, two single beds pushed together to make my queensize (and not that comfortable), a kitchen with no kettle (but did have instant coffee and a microwave) and a chair at the desk that wasn't comfortable. Bathroom towels […] and amentities could have been better. On the plus side, fast and helpful staff and checkin (great service by them), great location, competitive pricing for the area, rooms WERE bigger than many London hotels, free internet and a bath/shower (many hotels just showers). Overall, I'd look for other options first but if nothing in price range, I'd return. Read more

"Citadines Holburn - Great Place to stay in London!"
The hotel was the perfect place to stay during our visit to London to see our son who is a student at LSE. Right across from an underground station, walking distance to many places we wanted to see. The room was great, with a bar/kitchenette as an added bonus. Very comfortable bed and linens, and delicious breakfast in a cheerful dining room. I would […] not hesitate for even a minute to stay at this hotel again! Read more

"Wonderful stay"
Just loved our studio apt. Some confusion at check in since my friend arrived two days earlier, and they wanted to switch us from a room with two twins where she already was, to a double. Finally got that straightened out. Biggest place that I have ever had in London. Usually I can touch both walls with my arms outstretched. Great, efficient kitchens, […] nice bathroom, but beware that the shower is very strong, there is a high step into the slick tub, and the shower curtain needs to be in just the high position or the floor will flood. Light service was grea, but seems like they ignored the part about making the bed. No big deal, really. Sainsbury very close, and lots of places to eat. Short walk to the theatres, which was my main purpose for being there. Will absolutely return. Just remodelled, very kind and friendly staff, and beautiful place, with free internet! Read more
"A decent choice, but annoyingly underachieving"
We'd stayed in a Citadines apartment hotel with two of our young kids years ago in Paris and it worked out great, so we thought we'd try it again on a trip to London with two, now older, kids. They were great about letting us into our room hours before the scheduled check-in time, though we were a bit surprised to discover that our Hotels.com rate did […] not include the daily breakfasts. The location was very convenient to central London destinations, and it was nice to take the Tube between Heathrow the Holborn stop a block from the hotel, without having to transfer. The basic hotel amentities (beds, bathrooms) were about what we expected, but we kept running into seemingly stupid problems which, if fixed, would make the place a truly excellent choice. Among the major annoyances: no available outlets that allow you to use the hair dryer in reasonable proximity of a reasonable mirror; a refrigerator that wouldn't get cold enough to keep milk and fruit from spoiling in less than three days; poor plumbing that risked burns to showerers if you flushed the toilet while they showered; and unnecessarily complicated procedures for using the wi-fi (Told to log in first via ethernet cable to a laptop then follow instructions online to get a user name and password for wireless access). A faulty desk lamp was fixed efficiently, but I found it unforgivable that promised return calls related to troubles with computer access to the internet were never made. I finally figured out how to get a user ID and password (the instructions given at check-in were a bit incomplete and misleading), but it was clear that the staff was unable to provide user assistance beyond following a poor script and seemed intent on avoiding trying to be helpful once their initial (incomplete) suggestions were unsuccessful in resolving our problems. Not massive problems in isolation, but added up to frustrations that could and should be avoidable, given the price of the rooms. Read more
"Hotel Citadines in Holborn, London"
Hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly! Rooms were much larger than expected and well maintained. The kitchenette was a big plus! Internet was flawless.Location was centrally located to all London landmarks and sights. There were many restaurants, markets and shops within walkinng distance.
"Citadines was a welcome change"
The Citadines was a welcome change to the fleabag in Bayswater we had originally booked. The room was nice, modern and newly decorated with a kitchen off of the bedroom. Centrally located w/ grocery store a block away. The hotel just opened a new gym, small but nice & well equip. And a delicious coffee machine in the lobby. We've already recommended […] this hotel to a family traveling to London in a few weeks. Read more
"Look for another hotel"
Shocking - you can get better value quite easily in London 1) Arrive - No Hot water for 2 Hours 2) Internet did not work 3) No electrical plug adapters at front desk - as rooms are only have UK plugs 4) My room was next to a fire door - whch swung open and closed all night long as people passed down the passage 5) Way to much street noise filters […] up to lower floors 6) TV was all messed up - they have like 8 stations !! Definitely not staying there again - Read more
"Score"
I was able to check-in early (always nice) to a clean and well appointed room. Some reviews mention renovations which seem to be all done. Location wise, I loved it. The area itself is not the nightlife hub of London but there are plenty of coffee and sandwich shop, a pizzeria and an impressive Polish restaurant. The tube station is on the next corner […] and you are only a few stops from any type of nightlife you could want. Read more
"Not a good choice for business traveler"
This hotel is a poor choice for a business traveler. It is not a 4-star hotel in any way. Might be OK for a long term apartment.
Excellent experience. I booked the same day from France, arrived at 10pm from LHR and checked in without incident. The rooms were spacious and clean, with a mini kitchen and big bathroom. The listing had indicated "sofa bed," which I was a bit nervous about, but the room itself was two full size beds. Very quick one block walk to Holborn tube the next […] morning. Will definitely stay again. Read more
"After renovation, this is a good hotel"
I read some negative reviews of this hotel that referenced a renovation but they were a bit old. I called the hotel and found that the renovation was complete and so booked my stay. I chose the 1 bedroom and thought the rate was good for the size of the room and the location. Holborn is a good area of London to stay in, near Soho and Covent Garden. […] I have stayed in several spots around London and this is my favorite. The one bedroom has four rooms and is pretty spacious by London standards. I like having a separate living area and I like that everything is modern. Many of the nice hotels in London are all done up to old English standards, which I don't like. There is a small kitchen with new glasses and silverware and a fridge and a small table for working/eating. The tv seems pretty small at first (maybe 15"?) but its fine for the room and you get plenty of English channels, although not ESPN America or Sky Sports. The only downside to this hotel was that the internet died on Sunday night and didn't com back by Tuesday morning. That is pretty ridiculous. If you are a business traveler that could be a big problem and it annoyed me quite a bit. Having said that, I don't know a better spot for me on my next biz trip to London for this price. Read more
"Ehh..."
The lobby is under renovation (expected) and they're updating the rooms. I had to get a room at the last minute due to an extended business trip, so had little choice. Basically, post renovation of the rooms I would definitely stay here at this price, pre-renovation, there are other options in the city at the same price level.
"Convenient location, but lacking amenities"
This hotel is under renovation. Perhaps it will be better. The "kitchen" was equipped with a microwave oven, 2 forks, 2 knives and some glasses. No cookware or utensils. So you can reheat prepared foods from a supermarket, but cannot do any real cooking. Further, there are no dishtowels. There is a dishwasher, which seems odd if you can't cook. The […] internet connection is only by ethernet cable and is very, very slow. The wireless connection in the business center (2 desks with 2 computers) does not connect to hand-held devices. The fold-out bed is uncomfortable, and you can't open the windows more than a crack. The room was clean and the atmosphere of the hotel pleasant. At least the room is unpleasant enough to make one want to leave and enjoy the city! Read more
"Citadines Apart'hotel London Holborn-Location!"
The Hotel is in almost the center of London. The Hotel is being renovated (which it needs). The Hotel staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the Tube and London. The hotel is located 1 block from the Holborn Tube station. This station has the Central line (shopping, Oxford Street and to St Pancreas Station for the Eurostar to Paris) and the […] Piccadilly line. The Piccadilly line can take you right from and to Heathrow Airport. Purchase an Oyster card at Heathrow for 20 pounds for the week. Read more
"Good location, needs renovation"
This is an excellent idea -- relatively few hotel services, a kitchenette in the room, great location, good price. Unfortunately the hotel is getting pretty tawdry (stained carpets, etc.) and needs renovation. Happily they said they were about to start a renovation project, doing one floor at a time. Whether this will mean noise and construction inconvenience […] remains to be seen. Read more
"Convenient location"
The hotel is very convenient for underground with lots of cafes etc close by. Close to Covent Garden too. I would describe furnishings etc as basic but certainly adequate.
"The good, the bad, and the awesome"
The first impression in this hotel is not too good, given the heavily stained and worn out carpets in the main halls and in the room, as well as the curtains that must not have been washed since they were first hung... But beyond that, this place is great. The location is absolutely awesome, just a few steps from the Tube leading directly to Heathrow, […] a Sainsbury's a block away, plenty of food joints all around... The room is great too, very spacious for a London hotel, has all the amenities one may need, TV has more program than most hotels, and the internet connection worked every time. And the surfaces that get cleaned after each guest were very clean indeed. I'd definitely stay here again, it's an awesome place, but do not forget to bring some flip flops to we worn at all times due to the dirty carpets... Read more

"Citadines Prestige Holborn - perfect location"
We arrived on Friday about 13:30 & the accommodation was ready...well done Citadines! The Citadines is superbly placed for all London attractions. The British Museum is just around the corner and Covent Garden and all Theatres are within a comfortable 15 minute walk. West End about 25 minutes. Receptionist was very friendly and very efficient. Check-in […] took no time. The accommodation was excellent. Kitchen area with all necessary appliances...clean bathroom & fantastic strong shower. We had clean towels every day (3 days). The bed was a bit soft but the pillow suited me & I slept a dream. A safe was available and we used it but we did not feel unsafe at any point. We explored a little on our last day and found the gym and laundy room. We'll bring our kit next time! We did not eat in the breakfast area but it looked more than adequate. I would certainly stay here again in the future. Much better than having just a hotel room. The only negative thing was that I booked a double bed and was given two single beds..we are a couple! To be fair to Citadines...I did not go down and complain so they could not address the problem...but it was not a major issue. Overall...comfortable, clean, friendly staff and ideal location. "Citadines Prestige Holborn-Covent Garden"
Great hotel. Have nothing bad to say about it. Oh, well, maybe the electrical output converter could have been complimentary.
"Great spot!"
The location is really great - about 100m from Holborn tube station and a short walk to Covent Garden. There are a lot of food options very close to the hotel, and as it is an apartment hotel with kitchenette, it was easy to utilise the Waitrose across the road for well priced ready made dinners and other groceries. The eoom is kind of smallish, but […] perfectly fine for single or couple. The beds are reasonably comfortable and the free internet was a plus. The staff are extremely helpful and accommodated my early morning checkin (7am!) after a long flight and a later check out which was most appreciated. "Best locale in London"
This hotel was great. We stayed here overnight to see a show, do some shopping and go to dinner. The front desk allowed us to check in early.
