Waikiki established its reputation as a getaway when the Moana Surfrider opened its doors in 1901. Today, more than 30,000 hotel rooms are packed in the skyscrapers along the golden sands of Waikiki Beach. At the end of Waikiki, Diamond Head towers as an enduring landmark. West of Waikiki, Pearl Harbor offers a somber testament to history and the victims of World War II.see all hotels in Honolulu
Extremely clean, large room with really comfy bed. Staff was exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Couldn't ask for a better place to stay in or near chaotic Waikiki.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I stay in hotels 5-10 days per month usually trying to book a 4 star accommodation. I travel to Honolulu twice a year for business. I've stayed along the strip and while you have many amenities it is so crowded and impersonal you get lost in the crowd and become a sheep. The Lotus was a refreshing break from the bustle of Honolulu. The rooms were well […] appointed and have a terrific view of the crater with some ocean view. We all love a great ocean view but it was nice having the mountain background as well. What makes this hotel so great is the staff, which starts from management. The hotel manager (Dean) was a refreshing change from many managers I meet. The small beach is a hidden gem. Not a big tourist attraction beach so don't go there if you want major people watching. There is a great 1/4 mile swim to the buoy with lots of active (local) swim teams. The free bike use is terrific to ride up and over the hill to check out other areas a bit further out. Don't stay here if you don't like to walk a bit. I wouldn't recommend the hotel for people that have difficulty getting around or are of the demanding sort. Kids would be okay if you get them out for other activities but it’s not a “resort” with a big pool, which kids love. This is a great chill hotel with everything you need (no pool but the beach makes up for it). The restaurant is very good with a good feel to it and great food. My wife and I had such a great time I'm staying here again on my next trip. Thanks Lotus! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Really can't ask for a better hotel to stay during our quick trip to Honolulu. Fantastic service and amenities. Great location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel located at the end of Waikiki area. Taxi is about $10-$15 to the central Waikiki, walking is about 20-30 minutes. Hotel rooms are big, modern, and clean.. Love the hard wood floor and the balcony. Hotel staffs are nice and friendly.. We stay 4 nights this trip and will definitely recommend for you to stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel rooms are spacious and beautiful. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. The location is between a big park and the beach. Perfect!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had an amazing time at Aqua Lotus! The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff (especially the valet) were extremely helpful and friendly. It was so great to be able to borrow beach chairs, towels, boogie boards and even bikes. It was a very short walk from the noisiness of Waikiki, with views of Diamond Head and/or beach. "A romantic getaway"
I am a soldier preparing to leave my family for two years. Though I live on the island of Oahu, I decided to get a room for my wife and I for a weekend getaway in Waikiki. That's when I came across the Aqua Lotus. I am a local, so being around a mass of tourists is just not what my wife and I enjoy; if you are the same, this hotel is for you. It's location […] places you within walking distance of the hotspots in Waikiki without slapping you in the middle of the chaos. The staff was very accommodating and upgraded our room when I told them this was the only weekend I could get away with my wife before I deployed...we had a great ocean view on the 11th floor. The room was spectacular, with hardwood floors, a chase lounge, all marble bathroom, and a large lanai for sitting and watching the sunrise, drinking some champagne, and getting fresh air. Overall, this hotel is a must for a romantic getaway or even just a visit to the island. I have stayed at other, bigger hotels in Waikiki before, was never as pleased as I am with the Aqua Lotus. I assure you I will never stay anywhere else when I decide to go to Waikiki again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hidden gem of a Hotel"
Remodeled rooms tastefully appointed. Very clean and comfortable, especially the beds. Very quiet surroundings, tranquil and beautiful. The fact that we were not on the noisy and crowded main part of Waikiki but within walking distance of the beach ( less than 100 yards) was great. Yes you will need a car to go shopping or to restaurants on the strip […] unless you don't mind a walk of 20 to 30 minutes. The hotel does provide a minimal selection of breakfast items a la carte, but it is much better to find a nice full service restaurant for your meals.. Availability of free wifi, bicycles, beach towels, and beach chairs was a welcome change from other hotels which " nickel and dime " you to death. All staff members were very helpful and very courteous. Afternoon bottles of wine placed in the lobby for tasting were delicious and free!! We will definitely be returning to this gem of a hotel. The breakfast cold buffet choices were very good and nicely served with complimentary coffee and newspaper. The lanai and view of Diamond head and the Park were lovely. "Best Birthday Ever!"
I went to Hawaii for my 30th birthday in October 2012 with my boyfriend and was very pleased with my stay at the Aqua Lotus. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Not to mention a dynamic view of Diamond Head and the beach within a 3 minute walk. They also offered complimentary towels, chairs and boogie boards. The aquarium and zoo and parks […] were within a minutes reach. To say the least, Hawaii is breath-taking, the weather was perfect and staying at the Aqua Lotus allowed us to stay on the Waikiki strip (tranquil 10 min. walk from the main strip area) without all the hassle and noise. The Aqua Lotus allowed a chance for us to experience the life and culture of Waikiki while still having the romance and relaxation my boyfriend and I really needed. Also, there is a bus that does run on the end of the strip regularly if you don't want to walk. Aqua Lotus does not have a restaurant at this moment, but the hotel right next to it does and you are welcomed and they have the BEST beef nachos I've ever tasted. Not to mention the ambiance was great and the drinks were too. And there was a convenience store that stayed open pretty late too. Overall the Aqua Lotus was comfortable (especially the bed and the rooms looked great), convenient, did not have construction going on and affordable. I can't wait to go back to Hawaii and I will definitely stay at the Aqua again as well as look for their chain of hotels during future travel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Very nice hotel"
The hotel itself was very nice. My room was clean and comfortable, the staff was friendly and helpful. The view from my room (I had a corner room on the 11th floor) was pretty good, too. The problems were the location and the lack of a restaraunt. I understand that they're renovating the restaraunt, but I never saw any workers doing anything there. The […] location is quiet, which is nice, and it is adjacent to a small beach just a quick walk away, but, if you want to go to Waikiki or Honolulu, it's a pretty decent walk. About 30 minutes each way. The park beside it was nice as well, but there were usually some homeless there that may or may not bother you. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Best hotel ever!"
The minute we walked in we were greated & welcomed. Wes was the desk host & he was soo curtious & friendly. He smiled the whole time he was checking us in. We had a corner room on the 8th floor & when we opened the door we fell in love with the view & the room. We didn't want to stay at a traditional city type hotel, this room was perfect and had the […] Hawaiian decor & atmosphere we were hoping to find. The room was very spacious & clean. I was there with my niece & sister in law so needless to say the space in the bathroom was very important & once again we were very satisfied. Because we chose to stay off the Waikiki tourist path, which can get noisy if your not on the top floors, we were able to open the patio sliding glass doors & peacefully fall asleep to the sound of the ocean, not traffic, & a warm breeze! It's about a 15 min stroll to Waikiki which was a great way for us to work up a breakfast appetite or walk off a dinner. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Dont let the elevator scare you!"
Very peaceful location, out of the noise of Waikiki but still very close walk to east end of Waikiki. The hotel was a W and was converted tot he Aqua Lotus. The hotel is older and the elevators are old, slow and make a terrible clunk but the rooms are very pleasant and clean. That is much more important to me and the cost remains reasonable for what […] you get- great views, large room, and serene location. "All Around GREAT Hotel!!"
The area of the Aqua Lotus is exactly what we wanted. It is located away from the busy side of Waikiki. It is easy to get to and from the hotel. The entire staff was extremely courteous. Although all the staff is great, Allen who is the valet and bell hop was extremely welcoming. He always greeted us by our name, asked us if we needed anything and just […] made sure he was taking care of us. The views are breathtaking as well! With the cleanliness of the hotel, magnificent employees and an A+ location, we rate this hotel Five Stars. Thank you to Allen and the entire staff at the Aqua Lotus. I spent a wonderful 10 day vacation at the hotel. The location was great - far enough away from Waikiki to avoid the noise and congestion, yet close enough to walk to restaurants and shops. Great place! Very friendly staff- and very helpful. Definite repeat...Genuine Expedia guest review
Chill spot away from the "Miami Beach" area of Waikiki. Very mellow, no pool, small beach so not ideal for kiddies. People were lovely and rooms were bright. clean and well appointed. Could have used a little coffee maker.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great for Independent Travellers"
This hotel is perfect for people who are pretty much self-sufficient and do not want to stay at a resort. We are usually gone all day exploring the island and do not take advantage of pools, spas, restaurants, bars, gyms, etc. The hotel is small and exquisite. Is has an inviting and stylish lounge where guests can enjoy complimentary coffee in the morning […] and wine in the afternoon. Our room was beautiful with breathtaking views of Diamond Head on one side and the ocean on the other. We found Aqua Lotus Honolulu's location extremely convenient as it is close to the beach, right across from a magnificent park, and within a short walking distance to vibrant Waikiki. "All in all very nice"
All in all very pleased although the room was advertised as an "ocean view" it was what I would classify as a partial ocean view. Not sure any of the rooms at this hotel actual have a full ocean view as their is another hotel between it and the beach. The view however did include both a view of the beach and of Diamond Head which was nice. The one main […] issue, I don't know if it was the Hotel or Expedia but as I was with my wife and two kids we had booked a double room but they ended up putting us in a single king. They did bring in a couple inflatable beds for the kids though. Hotel was recently remodeled and very nice. Staff was also very friendly. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A decent stay at Waikiki"
We booked a Premium room but was assigned to a regular one. we got reimbursed later, but it's a mistake that we needed to point out, they didn't let us know.Genuine Expedia guest review
When we tried to check in to the Aqua Lotus, there was a problem on their end supplying us with a room with double beds as we requested. SO, they apologized and moved us over to the Modern (their flagship hotel) on Waikiki Beach next to the Hilton, which was an amazing hotel right on the beach. "Good Bang For Your Buck $$$"
A great hotel overall, not exactly a 5 more of a 4.5 which wasn't provided as an option for scoring, but this hotel is definitely better than a 4. The hotel was very clean and the room was very quiet. The decor of our room was soothing and pleasing to the eye. The bed was extremely comfortable, of all the hotels we stayed in during our vacation this […] bed was the best. The location is perfect, your within walking distance of the best that Waikiki has to offer, but your far enough away to escape back to a quiet retreat. My only negative comment would be the mandatory valet parking, it was not needed nor should it have been required. The parking space provided for our car was literally within 50 feet of the hotel entrance. The valet's themselves were very professional, knowledgable, & courteous, but I didn't feel I needed to have someone park my car in a space 10 feet away from where I got out. "Best kept secret in Hawaii!"
Best kept secret in Hawaii. Beautiful views of Kapilioni Park, Diamond Head Crater and the Ocean. We had a corner room on the 10th floor (1021). When we first arrived we were distressed to find out they only had a room with a King sized bed to accomodate 4 guests, but after the delivery of 2 huge roll-away beds we were quite comfortable. The valet parking […] is well worth it for $20/day. The staff was very helpful, especially Wes who was an absolute delight. This hotel is perfect for anyone who prefers a quiet, scenic stay. The walk to the Waikiki strip was .8 miles and took about 10 minutes and was lovely as you could walk along the beach or through the park. We had complimentary wine every evening and coffee and tea in the morning. Chairs and towels were for free whenever you wanted to take a very short walk to the beach. Compared to the hassle and cost of the very fancy hotels on the strip this best kept secret even had its own private beach which you shared with only a couple of other hotels. Thank you Aqua Lotus! Near enough to the center of Waikiki, but far enough away to not be bothered by loud noises, police sirens, and the traditional noise of Waikiki tourists! "Sad to leave - cant wait to return!"
Picking a hotel is an agonizing choice. So many variables and tradeoffs that inevitably I end up choosing one and just hoping for the best. Having researched Hotels in Oahu extensively (and visited 4 times before) I had a fair idea what i was getting into. My choices were between The Modern, Hotel Renew and The Lotus. In the end, being away from the […] grind of Waikiki was important for me. First impressions: the Lotus is fantastic. Colorful lobby without being tacky, away from all the noise, and a small amount of rooms. We chose a Diamond Head premium room. Some will say the second lanai is a waste of money - and that might be true. But you get one less room on the side, more space( and some of the middle rooms are blue, which IMHO are nowhere near as nice). For my money - these rooms are the best. As always higher is better. Oh and the beds - the beds! supremely comfortable. The staff: Great! Very friendly, and helpful. A small staff ( i only encountered 4 staff in the front desk) means a very personal service. Best service i have had in Oahu by a long stretch The amenities: Few, but for us - useful. If you need a hotel bar/restaurant - look elsewhere. For us - free yoga, beach towels/chairs and bikes where perfect. As well as complimentary coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. Great touches. The bottom line: We really felt like San Souci was 'our' beach. The staff are wonderful. The location is perfect. The room was fantastic. We cant wait to return! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We loved the Aqua Lotus Hotel. The room was very spacious, comfortable and clean. The staff was absolutely wonderful. They were so friendly and very helpful. Love the balconies, would have preferred a room on a higher floor. Ours was right above the parking garage, which was kind of boring. But the view of Diamond Head was awesome. The Aqua Lotus Hotel is a short distance from Waikiki, close enough to walk to shops and restaurants yet far enough to be away from the big crowds. Easy to get in and out of by car as Waikiki traffic can be completely avoided. Large, gorgeous rooms, all with balconies facing Diamond Head, some even with partial ocean view. Friendly staff. Plenty of […] towels and toiletries provided. Complimentary high-speed internet & wi-fi. Daily wine reception in the lobby. There is a $20 fee per day for "valet" parking but the valets are kind of lazy and most of the time you park the car yourself and give them the key (fine with me, I prefer not letting anyone else drive my car but technically they are not providing the service you pay for). At the time of this writing, the hotel no longer has a restaurant. AVOID breakfast at the Hau Tree Lanai Restaurant (New Otani hotel) next door, it is nasty and way overpriced. "Quiet location - few amenities - but we liked it"
This hotel is in a much quieter location than the Waikiki hotels. They will be opening a restaurant at the hotel at some point, but up to now, there is nowhere to eat close by. However, it is a very pleasant 15 minute walk to Waikiki, where there are plenty of restaurants. Or you can walk or drive just north of the hotel on Kapahulu and find some colorful […] local eateries (such as the Rainbow Drive-In and Leonard's Bakery). There is a public beach very nearby, as well as a beautiful park across the street. The Aquarium and the Zoo are also just a few steps away from the Lotus. We had a corner room on the 4th floor, which afforded views of parking lots on both sides, and also a view of Diamond Head if you stood on the balcony, and a very small slice of an ocean view. The room was quiet enough on all but one morning, when we were awakened at 6am with very loud equipment noise from some maintenance on the hotel next door. The king bed was especially comfy, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The refrigerator froze our food, but the hotel replaced it after a couple of complaints. Over all, we enjoyed The Lotus very much, especially being in a quieter location than Waikiki, yet near enough to walk to it. But you do need to know that there are not a lot of amenities (no pool, no spa, no gym, no restaurants) right at the hotel. There is a convenience store next door with snacks, drinks, sundries, etc. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A Nice Place to Stay"
All rooms face east, towards Diamond Head, so don't worry too much about getting a good view -- unless you end up on one of the lower floors near the parking lot. My room was very 'Zen' -- platform bed, nice wood furniture, and beige bath tile. There was a shower (no tub), so be sure to ask if that's important to you. The hotel is about as far from […] the central Waikiki beach as you can get, so be ready to walk if you plan to spend time there. Instead, there is a small beach past the parking lot and between the neighboring condos, which is a good place to stretch out. The desk clerk said more renovations are coming, so get ready for prices to go up. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value, great location ,comfy ambience."
My husband and I have stayed at The Aqua Lotus several times under different ownerships and have never been disappointed. We particularly enjoy the serene, low-key ambiance which allows guests to schlep their own luggage if they wish and do their own laundry if they wish, though guests can easily have the hotel do those things for them as well. The […] location is great - steps to Waikiki Beach, and a pleasant walk to Waikiki shops and restaurants - rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated, quiet and clean, and the staff is unfailingly friendly and helpful. Some nice touches include coffee in the lobby in the morning and wine in the afternoon. This Christmas the lobby boasted a spectacular poinsettia Christmas tree surrounded by lovely, spare asian inspired decor. I always miss a dresser in the room and a restaurant on the premises, and the $18 daily parking fee is an unwelcome new addition this year, but, all in all, we think it's a very pleasant place to stay and a very good value. Large, comfortable room close to beach with great view of Diamondhead. TV is old--not flat screen/HD, but we weren't in our room enough for that to be a big concern.
