The hotel lobby and room weren’t bad, just dated. The bathroom, however, was nasty. There was mold on the surround and tiles chipped off. The front staff was nice and the free breakfast was appreciated, but because our room was in the back over a restaurant, it was difficult to sleep with all of the noise. I wouldn’t stay there again.

Hotel was so run down.the mattresses were horrible and you could feel the spring. Couldn't sleep at all because whole night you could hear people walking in the corridor and wood creek. Bathroom was clean but century old fittings.in all not a great experience.

Not quite what I expected. Its an old building, ornate. Bed was uncomfortable and squeeked. Room was small but quaint. Didn't like that the room had a door to the next suite and there was no noise buffer so you can hear your neighbors. If I stayed again I would request a rear building room as traffic noise at night was disturbing. Good food.

We were in town for a wedding and stayed for one night. The price was right for what the hotel has to offer. The staff was very pleasant. We had a problem with the sound on our TV at 11:00 p.m. and the gentleman at the front desk came right up to our room to fix it. Went to Bogey's for a nightcap and found it to be very convenient right in the hotel with a friendly crowd. Our room was facing the parking lot so it was very quiet. Good location right in the center of town.

Central and convenient as we were there for a one night conference. Very comfortable and clean. It's a great old hotel with lots of character - missing in the new ones. Like the difference with a china cup or a plastic mug, both are clean and functional but what would you prefer?

We got to the Inn during a powerful downpour. When my husband went to the desk, the young man there gave him an umbrella, which was helpful. We were ok with the quaint, creaky oldness of the building. However, we were put on the front street where we were directly above road and sidewalk work. There are 55 rooms here. It would have been considerate of them to put us in a back room away from the constant noise. There were probably only 4 others staying there that night. I'm talkin' night time noise. The road crew had put giant metal boards on the road for each vehicle to drive over. So every single vehicle went THUMP, THUMP all night long. The big rigs went THUMP, THUMP, THUMP all night long. And then at 7:30 am the sidewalk crew began hammering away. It would be nice if the Inn would have thought about that since the place was not over-booked.

The hotel is 120 years old. It amazed me as to how well kept it was. The staff did a great job and were friendly. Marie, in the dining area has a tough exterior at first. She has a warm, dry, funny sense of humor. She has been there for decades and know the area. The downtown area is being refurbished and taking on a newer modern-antique look. It was a great visit with family. The Norman Rockwell museum was great. The leaves are just getting ready to turn.

Definately not "cookie cutter", many interesting nooks and crannies. Interesting stores, restaurants and bars within a block or two. The staff was friendly and helpful but the maid service was a little lacking. Did not replace the in room coffee and coffee accessories. Would definately stay there again, enjoyed the stay.

This is my second time staying at the inn and the staff is always very pleasant and accommodating to requests. The inn is conveniently located in Torrington - within walking distance to bars and restaurants. The only complaint I had was the rooms definitely need updating. The beds and linens seemed very old. While this is a historic inn, they can definitely benefit from doing updates that won't change to the old-timey feeling to the place.

We stay at the Pedlar when ever we are in Torrington....quaint and certainly not a Marriot, it has the charm, character, and certain attraction if you like things off the beaten path. Staff has always been pleasant, rooms are clean (but not modern), and it's down town location is convenient. It is a good value, and sure beats the Motel 1-10 for the money.

I am afraid we were very disappointed with this hotel, it is the only hotel in this local area, the exterior was shabby, we were greeted at the entrance to the hotel with cracked window panes in the door and paintwork throughout the hotel was chipped and the fabric and furnishings were very tired. i appreciate this was supposed to be a historic inn but it was clearly very run down and needed some modernisation and money spent on it. The only positive I can say is the staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful.

We enjoyed our stay at the Yankee Pedlar and were puzzled by the varied reviews on this site. The desk staff was very helpful and friendly but the first room we were in was very large, not furnished very well, it had an odd feel to it. The A/C didn't work very well but they were very happy to move us to another room. This 2nd room was very comfortable, well furnished, more modern. The bathroom had modern fixtures, it was very clean and comfortable. We loved it. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back. There were concerts on the green both nights, historical society museum is one block away and its excellent. The restaurant across the street (The Backstage) was reasonably priced and excellent. A great weekend. My advice: Don't get the cheapest room, splurge a little for an upgrade and you won't be sorry.

Historic Inn with much needed updates. Airconditioning poor in main part of building and resturant. Did not work in bedroom (very hot day) TV in rm not working. Everything about our stay in the hotel was delightful. It is a quaint, romantic, old New England decor hotel. The restaurant was excellent. A nice continental breakfast. The staff were always cheerful and helpful. Our only criticism was the about the bed's mattress. It was old, uneven and uncomfortable. The hotel needs to update it's mattresses.

This is an older New England hotel in the center of town that is clean and comfortable, but not modern. The attendants behind the counter were very helpful and the wait staff in the attached restaurant and pub makes you feel like you were one of their regular customers that may have come in after work for a story and a drink. The prices were reasonable along with the convenience and the atmosphere of the restaurant and bar will have me returning in the future.

While not for everyone, this hotel is very charming. Service was excellent at the hotel and at Bogie's restaurant downstairs. Food was terrific and staff was friendly. Very walkable town with great restaurants and nightlife (Bachi's!) and cool, bohemian vibe. Hotel is over 100 years old so there is wear and tear, ie bathroom plumbing is sensitive and work definitely needed in some of the rooms. However, for low maintenance guests looking for something different, this place beats any of the nearby options. We traveled with some high maintenance friends, and even they agreed it would be a cool little place to come back to in the fall. Overall, highly recommend!

Very charming Inn. We stayed here with 2 other couples and choose this place for a few reasons. First, it is close to 6 wineries on the CT Wine Trail. Second, we heard a lot of rave reviews about the restaurant Bogey’s. Yes, it is old, however it has so much charm and it was nice to see how much of the old ambiance they keep for others to enjoy. While the rooms are older, they are well maintained and cleaned with updated TV's and a coffee maker in the room. There is also a Yogurt Shop right there that has great soft serve Yogurt with a variety of toppings. The staff is wonderful and very friendly. Bill was super great and even after the elevator broke down; he still gave us a tour of the Inn. Couple of recommendations for future considerations: • Add small refrigerators to the rooms - It would be nice addition especially after a day of exploring the wineries that are close by so you have place to keep things chilled. • Continental Breakfast - the selections is very minimal and if you don't arrive early a lot of the stuff is gone. Recommendations: o Increase the amount of food that is put out. o Also, large cereal bowls would be nice. o Add some fresh cut up fruit and English muffins. I would definitely return for another stay.

I booked a room for one night at the Pedlar due to a home/bathroom renovation. This hotel is in desperate need of renovations. The paint/wallpaper are peeling. The mattresses are uncomfortable and lumpy. The heat did not work and we had to switch rooms. It looked and felt rundown and dirty. We ended up just using the bathroom for showers but did not spend the night. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

We had a great stay in the Yankee Pedlar's Inn. The restaurant is part of the building, easily accessed from the lobby and the small shops on Main Street can also be accessed from the lobby too! This was very convenient because it rained heavily the evening we were there. The whole theme of the hotel is early 20th century which makes this place so unique. The room was comfy, had cable TV, and free Internet with very good reception.

I have family in Torrington and the surrounding area and have stayed here many times over the years. It's always my first choice in the Torrington area. The building is from the 1800's but it's well maintained, and not something you will see very often. If you like history, stay here. Like visiting another era. Didn't see any of the spirits reported to be roamiing the hotel, but that just shows even the ghosts are respectful of the customers. The staff is always friendly and accomodating, and the rooms are always clean.

We were originally put in a smoking room even though we requested non-smoking. In the ghetto smokers room there was a dirty ashtray and contrary to the reservation there was no iron or ironing board or coffee maker. I complained and we were moved after we got back from the wedding. The new room is the only reason I rated 2 on some categories. The place has charm but is understaffed and needs a bit of a face lift.

Generally, it was ok. Rooms were decorated ok. An overall average inn stay in an older place that hasn't had any updates in a long time. The tavern was very good and conveniently located.

Do not go to the Yankee Pedlar if you are looking for the ultimate relaxation destination. It is what it is and was fine for what I needed it to be at the time; a bed and bath. I was there just for two nights attending a film festival. The location was ideal. Close to everything, but the mattress was like sleeping on a plank, which might be good for those with a bad back. The sheets were clean and the bath was spotless. The hotel itself is a little beat up and needs some renovations. There is a quaint bar attached that has great bar food and a fun vibe.

Having grown up in the area, the Peddlar is a household name. With so few options for lodging in the area, we decided to try it out on our recent visit. Although the room overall was clean, the place is quite dated. For example, the TV is easily circa 1970/1980 and the teen was unable to get it to work. The phone was probably equally as old. The period furniture was nice, but the beds were very uncomfortable and squeaky. The bedding appeared to be clean, but I did have a moment of pause since the pillow was covered in long brown hairs. There was no way to keep the room dark, as there were only cheap plastic mini blinds, so we were up at sun up. The street side, where we stayed is also very noisy and we heard ever car go over the metal plate in the road. Upon check-in we were not given any information, such as when breakfast was served or where. If we stay here again it will only be for convenience of location.

As the room rate is reasonably cheap don't expect too much. There's notice in Torrington itself but with a car the good parts of the area are within easy reach. As for the hotel, well it dwells on its history but that seems to have stopped at 1990! It's rather tired & in need of modernising though perfectly functional. When you Google the hotel you realise the current owner had been in the process of selling up so it's obviously why things are on hold. Especially with his reported debts! It'll be interesting to see what course the new company takes - use the history but update the comfort & facilities I hope. All in all if I was looking for a cheap place to crash for the night & move on I would stay there again. Any longer - probably not!

Although it was cold there was no heating. Profuse apologies and excuses were given. The room was dusty, though comfortable and a heater was brought in. Beware the front rooms looking on to Main Street and heavy traffic! Breakfast was mediocre. Overall our experience was very disappointing.

A historic hotel which had a charming atmosphere. Enjoyed our stay. According to Wikipedia some of the rooms are even haunted, but we had a good night's sleep.

The hotel is charming although a bit run-down, however their rates reflect this fairly. The staff was friendly and would recommend as a stop-over for the night. Interesting to read its history over the past 100 years.
