"Great time-close to Wineries on the CT Wine Trail"
Very charming Inn. We stayed here with 2 other couples and choose this place for a few reasons. First, it is close to 6 wineries on the CT Wine Trail. Second, we heard a lot of rave reviews about the restaurant Bogey’s. Yes, it is old, however it has so much charm and it was nice to see how much of the old ambiance they keep for others to enjoy. While […] the rooms are older, they are well maintained and cleaned with updated TV's and a coffee maker in the room. There is also a Yogurt Shop right there that has great soft serve Yogurt with a variety of toppings. The staff is wonderful and very friendly. Bill was super great and even after the elevator broke down; he still gave us a tour of the Inn. Couple of recommendations for future considerations: • Add small refrigerators to the rooms - It would be nice addition especially after a day of exploring the wineries that are close by so you have place to keep things chilled. • Continental Breakfast - the selections is very minimal and if you don't arrive early a lot of the stuff is gone. Recommendations: o Increase the amount of food that is put out. o Also, large cereal bowls would be nice. o Add some fresh cut up fruit and English muffins. I would definitely return for another stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not for comfort."
I booked a double room. what I got was two separate rooms sharing a bathroom. Only one television and on climbing three flights of stairs. The only reason for picking this hotel was it was convenience to a competition we attended. Never again.Genuine Expedia guest review

I booked a room for one night at the Pedlar due to a home/bathroom renovation. This hotel is in desperate need of renovations. The paint/wallpaper are peeling. "Oldie but Goodie!"
We had a great stay in the Yankee Pedlar's Inn. The restaurant is part of the building, easily accessed from the lobby and the small shops on Main Street can also be accessed from the lobby too! This was very convenient because it rained heavily the evening we were there. The whole theme of the hotel is early 20th century which makes this place so unique. This was hotel was a great find and good value. A continental breakfast was included with a delightful hostess. The elevator is to die for. The wife worked and the location was extremely convenient. It is old, yet modern enough that you can live in today's world.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Always a nice stay"
I have family in Torrington and the surrounding area and have stayed here many times over the years. It's always my first choice in the Torrington area. The building is from the 1800's but it's well maintained, and not something you will see very often. If you like history, stay here. Like visiting another era. Didn't see any of the spirits reported […] to be roamiing the hotel, but that just shows even the ghosts are respectful of the customers. The staff is always friendly and accomodating, and the rooms are always clean. "Was looking for the little boy yelling "redrum"!"
A combination of the Bates Motel (from the movie Psycho) and the hotel in Stephen King's The Shining. The fact that this place is old is not a problem; the fact that the rooms are dirty, the beds creaky and uncomfortable and overall lack of quality amenities is.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This place does not deserve a 3. It's a let down. I won't argue it was worth the low rate I paid but don't go there expecting much.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Be careful with reservation"
We were originally put in a smoking room even though we requested non-smoking. In the ghetto smokers room there was a dirty ashtray and contrary to the reservation there was no iron or ironing board or coffee maker. I complained and we were moved after we got back from the wedding. The new room is the only reason I rated 2 on some categories. Generally, it was ok. Rooms were decorated ok. An overall average inn stay in an older place that hasn't had any updates in a long time. The tavern was very good and conveniently located.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Do not go to the Yankee Pedlar if you are looking for the ultimate relaxation destination. It is what it is and was fine for what I needed it to be at the time; a bed and bath. I was there just for two nights attending a film festival. The location was ideal. Close to everything, but the mattress was like sleeping on a plank, which might be good for […] those with a bad back. The sheets were clean and the bath was spotless. The hotel itself is a little beat up and needs some renovations. There is a quaint bar attached that has great bar food and a fun vibe. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old, but not charming"
Having grown up in the area, the Peddlar is a household name. With so few options for lodging in the area, we decided to try it out on our recent visit. Although the room overall was clean, the place is quite dated. For example, the TV is easily circa 1970/1980 and the teen was unable to get it to work. The phone was probably equally as old. The period […] furniture was nice, but the beds were very uncomfortable and squeaky. The bedding appeared to be clean, but I did have a moment of pause since the pillow was covered in long brown hairs. There was no way to keep the room dark, as there were only cheap plastic mini blinds, so we were up at sun up. The street side, where we stayed is also very noisy and we heard ever car go over the metal plate in the road. Upon check-in we were not given any information, such as when breakfast was served or where. If we stay here again it will only be for convenience of location. "Great hotel. Stay here if exploring the area."
Excellent hotel with character. Bedrooms and common areas are very clean. Breakfast is simple (cereal, pastries, toast etc), bar and restaurant are excellent. "Excellent B & B"
This little inn tucked away in Torrington was perhaps one of the better bed and breakfast I have stayed at. It was conveniently located for the wedding I was attending, everything was within a ten minute drive. The hotel staff were exceptionally accommodating and friendly. It was all smiles from check in to check out. The room was pleasantly furnished […] and a nice slice of antiquity. The room was spotless. As it is an old inn, it is heated by radiators and cooled by AC window units but that is more than adequate. The water runs hot in the bathroom. I loved my stay here and would like to do so again. If you are into history, then take a look around. There is local history plastered all over the walls.. The complimentary breakfast is a modest affair. Bonus, everything is wrapped in plastic wrap so if you want to take it to go, that is the option. Overall, this is a fantastic little gem. I highly recommend the stay if you love the feel of b and b. What this hotel lacks in spit and polish it makes up for in character. Built as a grand hotel in the 19th century, it is now a little tired and in need of some attention. "Charming older hotel"
Located downtown on the main street, not as a separate entity but as part of the storefronts. It is charming inside, and obviously has stayed true to the original architecture and building structure. The room was a good size, with a really deep closet. There was a large step up into the bathroom, and the light in the bathroom was turned off and on by […] a pull string - no light switch. Radiator heat, which was quite warm even on low. Our room had a roof outside the window, and the melting snow / rain poured onto it, making noise the entire night. The bed was reasonably comfortable. We didn't partake of the free continental breakfast. Laura on front desk was very pleasant. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I tried really hard to focus on the "character" of the hotel, but all in all it's a sad, shabby establishment. Everything is so old and unkempt, you can't tell whether it is dirty or clean. Peeling paint and wallpaper, worn carpeting, chipped railings, etc. The mattress is like a rock and the only place to plug anything in is in the bathroom way above […] the sink where the dryer plugs in - and the bathroom light has to be on for the plug to work. When I checked in, the hotel was nearly empty, yet they gave me a room right next to another guest. I understand it is an old building with thin walls, but why not space guests out when you can? I called down to the front desk to let them know I was having some carryout delivered (the kitchen in the adjacent restaurant closes at 8:30pm), and an hour later I was still waiting. Turns out there was a shift change and the message wasn't communicated. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Yankee Pedlar Inn subject of movie"
We stayed at the Pedlar to attend the premier of movie The Innkeepers being held across the street. You understand why the Inn would be the subject of a horror movie: Old, in disrepair, elevator must have staff person in it to use it ("for liability reasons"), so you have to call down to have someone bring it up to your floor. Nice people, restaurant […] attached to it excellent (Bogey's). The room was clean but one star accommodations. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
While this is certainly an interesting historical setting and has funky old decor, this hotel has seen better days. "Historic Inn in Downtown Torrington"
This is a fabulous historic building, and the room furnishings are old-fashioned and delightful. The lobby is a bit shabby, but it has charm. "Yankee Pedlar Inn in Torrington-Old Time Charm"
My wife and I stayed at the Inn on New Year's Eve,a quiet, quaint hotel that is showing it's age, but that is also full of antiques and that has a certain old-time charm to it. It is very convenient to area attractions with off-street parking and an attached resturant. The staff, while accomodating, is on the whole on the youngish side, and their lack […] of experience shows. The room was clean and full of antiques, but don't expect the antiseptic feel or amenities of a more modern facility. The town of Torrington is kind of run-down, too, but we still felt safe in the area. For our purposes with an event in the area, it was great for a one-night stay. "Our Nasty Hotel Stay;"
The only thing that I had to say that I really liked about the hotel was the fact that it was an old building with lots of character. The night that we arrived they were lighting the lights for Christmas and telling stories to the children. That was wonderful but too bad the people were in the way and we had a hard time getting into the place to take […] our luggage up the stairs to our dusty room with the dirty bath tub and non working heater. The hotel was dusty and dirty. I asked for a room away from the stairs and when we arrived the room was next to the stairs. They changed the room and put us in a dirty room with a dirty tub and the heater didn't work. They did change the room again and gave us two rooms next to each other one for my children and one for my husband and I. The rooms smelt stale. The bathroom and sick were both dirty. We also were very unhappy with the continental breakfast. The food was old and not pleasing to the eye. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I do recommend that you not only clean the hotel but fix the hotel up. It is a beautiful building with alot of class and it should be used for more than a saloon setting where people hang out and get drunk and mess up the public restroom, that didn't get cleaned until after 11:00am. "Only reason to stay here is the location"
This hotel is old and dirty. The lobby looks oK, but the elevator has to be operated by the desk clerk, the room had garbage in the drawers and under the bed and I had to call three times to have someone show me the trick to turn on the TV. There was no heat control in the room and it was COLD! The building is not handicap accessible. There is a ramp […] out the back door which leads to a dark alley. There is also a step into the bathroom. Most of the staff was uninterested and unhelpful even though I saw very few other guests the whole week. If it wasn't in my hometown, I wouldn't go near the place. It's 120 years old and some people may say it's quaint but there's a reason it's in bankruptcy. Nobody there seems to care about the place. There is a restaurant attached, but again not handicap accessible. The Warner Theatre is across the street which is convenient if you don't mind the street noise. If you have the option of staying in another town, do it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It's a typical old hotel- very charming until you get in your room. There was mold in the bathroom, missing tiles, bad patch job behind the toilet just to name a few. The bed was as old and dusty as you can imagine- and the pillows were stained and yellowed (and we were in a non-smoking room) and had no pillow covers on them. The bedspread was torn […] in quite a few places and I actually joked to my husband that I was going to sleep in my jacket. Fortunately, the heat worked well and we cranked it so that we didn't have to use the sheets on the bed. We both wrapped our pillows in the towels provided- I had actually debated whether or not I was going to buy pillows at the TJMaxx down the street. For the money, I guess you get what you pay for, but I at least thought it was going to be clean. It was a great location if you're going to a show at the Warner Theater, right across the street. "Quaint VS. Plumbing!!!!"
The hotel was quaint, very clean, with nice attention to period details and maintaining a classic Inn charm. The pub and dining the same..with very good and reasonably priced food. Would reccomend on all of the above, HOWEVER, the noise from the plumbing and heating pipes was deafening and constant. I hope it was just due to the first of the season […] use/air in the old pipes OR location of our room,...be sure to ask about this when reserving a room or bring ear plugs and/or ipod! Location central for many beatiful areas in CT Northwest Hills and a weekend of wine tasting in the area's vineyards on CT Wine Trail. The Inn was VERY reasonable with Warner Theatre and a few clubs across the street....some closed local stores seem to be hit by tough economic times but we still felt quite safe walking about and just fine parking car with bikes left atop, and untouched, in back lot. "Yankee Pedlar Inn- A quiet retreat"
We were out for a day trip to Litchfield CT but decided to extend it and to continue traveling north in the morning. We located the Yankee Pedlar online (smart phone) as lodging that accepted small dogs. We did not have a reservation, but easily made one online in car while sitting in front. Several of the reviews seemed negative but we decided to try […] it out anyway. We found the Inn to be quaint and quiet in spite of the fact that two weddings receptions were being celebrated that night. The room was very clean and comfortable. The fixtures in the bathrooms are dated but spotless. We thought this all part of the charm. We ordered food from the adjacent pub which was wonderful! Tasty homemade soups and wonderful salad. Slept great! Awoke in the morning refreshed and ready to get on our way. The continental breakfast was typical but nice to get a good cup of coffee before heading out. The staff is friendly and attentive. The history of the Inn is interesting and the town is cute. Nice neighborhood to take a long walk in. My husband had a great stroll with the puppy early in the morning. The Lobby area is cozy and inviting though I do wish they would re-upholster the furniture other than that it is lovely. There are a couple of cute boutique shops off the lobby and the aforementioned pub. As it was Sunday we left before these opened-they are unique and invite a visit. Oh & don't let me forget to mention the elevator! A comical step back in time. Hand operated!!! The kids will love riding on this! We recommend the Yankee Pedlar and will be back! "Historic Inn - Faded Glory"
We had looked forward to our stay at the Yankee Pedlar as my dad had happily stayed there many times in the past - but several decades before. We'd once eaten dinner at their adjoining restaurant and enjoyed our meal and the charming historic surroundings. So, we were disappointed to see a rather unkempt back entrance [a buildup of cigarette butts in […] entry planters] when we first arrived and although the main hall is/was magnificent and filled with many interesting artifacts, the antique furniture was worn and needed recovering. All of that we could have accepted but the 'hospitality' team at the desk was anything but hospitable. It was, hurry up and check in so we can go outside and have another cigarette! Our room, however, was quite nice, pretty and clean - "an Expedia room" we were told. The location in a CT town undergoing a revival was fun with many nice restaurants within walking distance - plus a wonderful old renovated theatre, not to mention the beautiful surrounding countryside. Since our trip was during leaf season, there were quite a few folks staying there so the allure of an old Yankee inn apparently overrides the lack of "hospitality". If management could find $$ for an upholsterer, cleaned their entry planters and then replaced those at the front desk with more sunny personalities, this would be a wonderful place to spend a weekend in beautiful Litchfield County.
