"Across the street from the Warner theater"
Stayed there because it was literally across from the theater. The hotel is old and shows its age but that adds to its character. There's a lot to see as it is full of history and antiques. "Got me now, but never again"
Only 1 person working front desk, left me standing there while he went to 2nd floor to show a group a room for a party. Finally got to room. (203) foul smell in room. shower looked like it wasn't cleaned, found old shampoo bottle from prior guest(s) in shower. Air Cond. wasn't working right. couldn't find switch to lamps in room, had to use ceiling […] light or bathroom light. Please note, i always check for bed bugs no matter where i'm spending the night. I did not see any signs of bugs but the box spring was very dirty & dusty. I had a hard time sleeping knowing this & couldn't wait till morning to check out. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
What this hotel lacks in spit and polish it makes up for in character. Built as a grand hotel in the 19th century, it is now a little tired and in need of some attention. Still, the rooms are clean and the atmosphere warm. It is not for everyone, but I love this hotel and stay here often.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great night sleep"
This Inn has everything you need and a great history! I would definitely stay here again. I slept very well and the staff was great. Backstage across the street is an excellent restaurant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quaint and convenient"
This Inn is quaint, clean, and conveniently located to Theatre and Nutmeg Conservatory. Each room is uniquely decorated with antiques appropriate to the decor. Not overly fancy and lush, but comfortable and clean with helpful desk personnel and free breakfast every morning. I stay there every time I visit my daughter and am very happy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming older hotel"
Located downtown on the main street, not as a separate entity but as part of the storefronts. It is charming inside, and obviously has stayed true to the original architecture and building structure. The room was a good size, with a really deep closet. There was a large step up into the bathroom, and the light in the bathroom was turned off and on by […] a pull string - no light switch. Radiator heat, which was quite warm even on low. Our room had a roof outside the window, and the melting snow / rain poured onto it, making noise the entire night. The bed was reasonably comfortable. We didn't partake of the free continental breakfast. Laura on front desk was very pleasant. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I tried really hard to focus on the "character" of the hotel, but all in all it's a sad, shabby establishment. Everything is so old and unkempt, you can't tell whether it is dirty or clean. Peeling paint and wallpaper, worn carpeting, chipped railings, etc. The mattress is like a rock and the only place to plug anything in is in the bathroom way above […] the sink where the dryer plugs in - and the bathroom light has to be on for the plug to work. When I checked in, the hotel was nearly empty, yet they gave me a room right next to another guest. I understand it is an old building with thin walls, but why not space guests out when you can? I called down to the front desk to let them know I was having some carryout delivered (the kitchen in the adjacent restaurant closes at 8:30pm), and an hour later I was still waiting. Turns out there was a shift change and the message wasn't communicated. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I know the building is old and we did have an "economy" room but, shouldn't we have had heat and a bed that wasn't broken? If we thought we could have found another place at that late hour of the night we would have left.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Yankee Pedlar Inn subject of movie"
We stayed at the Pedlar to attend the premier of movie The Innkeepers being held across the street. You understand why the Inn would be the subject of a horror movie: Old, in disrepair, elevator must have staff person in it to use it ("for liability reasons"), so you have to call down to have someone bring it up to your floor. Nice people, restaurant […] attached to it excellent (Bogey's). The room was clean but one star accommodations. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
While this is certainly an interesting historical setting and has funky old decor, this hotel has seen better days. It really needs some paint, better sheets, towels and TV and could use a steam cleaning. The staff were nice and helpful and the location is smack downtown within walking distance of several restaurant options. If some money was put into […] sprucing up the hotel, this could be a gem. "Historic Inn in Downtown Torrington"
This is a fabulous historic building, and the room furnishings are old-fashioned and delightful. The lobby is a bit shabby, but it has charm. I arrived on a very cold day; my room was very cold when I arrived, and it took two hours for it to heat up to room temperature. Surely, management should preheat a room that is booked! At any rate, I love this […] Inn: the price is reasonable, I recommend it to friends, and I will certainly return. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Yankee Pedlar Stay"
I love this historic hotel, but it could use some updating and restoration. I only had one complaint is that the shower water temp didn't seem to be regulated very well... at one point, the water turned scalding hot. Otherwise, staff helpful and courteous.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Yankee Pedlar Inn in Torrington-Old Time Charm"
My wife and I stayed at the Inn on New Year's Eve,a quiet, quaint hotel that is showing it's age, but that is also full of antiques and that has a certain old-time charm to it. It is very convenient to area attractions with off-street parking and an attached resturant. The staff, while accomodating, is on the whole on the youngish side, and their lack […] of experience shows. The room was clean and full of antiques, but don't expect the antiseptic feel or amenities of a more modern facility. The town of Torrington is kind of run-down, too, but we still felt safe in the area. For our purposes with an event in the area, it was great for a one-night stay. "Our Nasty Hotel Stay;"
The only thing that I had to say that I really liked about the hotel was the fact that it was an old building with lots of character. The night that we arrived they were lighting the lights for Christmas and telling stories to the children. That was wonderful but too bad the people were in the way and we had a hard time getting into the place to take […] our luggage up the stairs to our dusty room with the dirty bath tub and non working heater. The hotel was dusty and dirty. I asked for a room away from the stairs and when we arrived the room was next to the stairs. They changed the room and put us in a dirty room with a dirty tub and the heater didn't work. They did change the room again and gave us two rooms next to each other one for my children and one for my husband and I. The rooms smelt stale. The bathroom and sick were both dirty. We also were very unhappy with the continental breakfast. The food was old and not pleasing to the eye. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I do recommend that you not only clean the hotel but fix the hotel up. It is a beautiful building with alot of class and it should be used for more than a saloon setting where people hang out and get drunk and mess up the public restroom, that didn't get cleaned until after 11:00am. "Only reason to stay here is the location"
This hotel is old and dirty. The lobby looks oK, but the elevator has to be operated by the desk clerk, the room had garbage in the drawers and under the bed and I had to call three times to have someone show me the trick to turn on the TV. There was no heat control in the room and it was COLD! The building is not handicap accessible. There is a ramp […] out the back door which leads to a dark alley. There is also a step into the bathroom. Most of the staff was uninterested and unhelpful even though I saw very few other guests the whole week. If it wasn't in my hometown, I wouldn't go near the place. It's 120 years old and some people may say it's quaint but there's a reason it's in bankruptcy. Nobody there seems to care about the place. There is a restaurant attached, but again not handicap accessible. The Warner Theatre is across the street which is convenient if you don't mind the street noise. If you have the option of staying in another town, do it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It's a typical old hotel- very charming until you get in your room. There was mold in the bathroom, missing tiles, bad patch job behind the toilet just to name a few. The bed was as old and dusty as you can imagine- and the pillows were stained and yellowed (and we were in a non-smoking room) and had no pillow covers on them. The bedspread was torn […] in quite a few places and I actually joked to my husband that I was going to sleep in my jacket. Fortunately, the heat worked well and we cranked it so that we didn't have to use the sheets on the bed. We both wrapped our pillows in the towels provided- I had actually debated whether or not I was going to buy pillows at the TJMaxx down the street. For the money, I guess you get what you pay for, but I at least thought it was going to be clean. It was a great location if you're going to a show at the Warner Theater, right across the street. "Quaint VS. Plumbing!!!!"
The hotel was quaint, very clean, with nice attention to period details and maintaining a classic Inn charm. The pub and dining the same..with very good and reasonably priced food. Would reccomend on all of the above, HOWEVER, the noise from the plumbing and heating pipes was deafening and constant. I hope it was just due to the first of the season […] use/air in the old pipes OR location of our room,...be sure to ask about this when reserving a room or bring ear plugs and/or ipod! Location central for many beatiful areas in CT Northwest Hills and a weekend of wine tasting in the area's vineyards on CT Wine Trail. The Inn was VERY reasonable with Warner Theatre and a few clubs across the street....some closed local stores seem to be hit by tough economic times but we still felt quite safe walking about and just fine parking car with bikes left atop, and untouched, in back lot. "Yankee Pedlar Inn- A quiet retreat"
We were out for a day trip to Litchfield CT but decided to extend it and to continue traveling north in the morning. We located the Yankee Pedlar online (smart phone) as lodging that accepted small dogs. We did not have a reservation, but easily made one online in car while sitting in front. Several of the reviews seemed negative but we decided to try […] it out anyway. We found the Inn to be quaint and quiet in spite of the fact that two weddings receptions were being celebrated that night. The room was very clean and comfortable. The fixtures in the bathrooms are dated but spotless. We thought this all part of the charm. We ordered food from the adjacent pub which was wonderful! Tasty homemade soups and wonderful salad. Slept great! Awoke in the morning refreshed and ready to get on our way. The continental breakfast was typical but nice to get a good cup of coffee before heading out. The staff is friendly and attentive. The history of the Inn is interesting and the town is cute. Nice neighborhood to take a long walk in. My husband had a great stroll with the puppy early in the morning. The Lobby area is cozy and inviting though I do wish they would re-upholster the furniture other than that it is lovely. There are a couple of cute boutique shops off the lobby and the aforementioned pub. As it was Sunday we left before these opened-they are unique and invite a visit. Oh & don't let me forget to mention the elevator! A comical step back in time. Hand operated!!! The kids will love riding on this! We recommend the Yankee Pedlar and will be back! "Historic Inn - Faded Glory"
We had looked forward to our stay at the Yankee Pedlar as my dad had happily stayed there many times in the past - but several decades before. We'd once eaten dinner at their adjoining restaurant and enjoyed our meal and the charming historic surroundings. So, we were disappointed to see a rather unkempt back entrance [a buildup of cigarette butts in […] entry planters] when we first arrived and although the main hall is/was magnificent and filled with many interesting artifacts, the antique furniture was worn and needed recovering. All of that we could have accepted but the 'hospitality' team at the desk was anything but hospitable. It was, hurry up and check in so we can go outside and have another cigarette! Our room, however, was quite nice, pretty and clean - "an Expedia room" we were told. The location in a CT town undergoing a revival was fun with many nice restaurants within walking distance - plus a wonderful old renovated theatre, not to mention the beautiful surrounding countryside. Since our trip was during leaf season, there were quite a few folks staying there so the allure of an old Yankee inn apparently overrides the lack of "hospitality". If management could find $$ for an upholsterer, cleaned their entry planters and then replaced those at the front desk with more sunny personalities, this would be a wonderful place to spend a weekend in beautiful Litchfield County. "Yankee Peddlar Inn"
It was awful. The hotel was old and unkept. The pictures on the website are misleading. Our room was on the 3rd floor and we had to ask the proprietor to show us where the elevator was so we didn't have to cart our luggage up 3 flights of stairs. When we opened up our door to our room it was a mess. The bed was unmaid, the towels and bathroom was dirty. […] We complained and were told that was too bad. Old, uncomfortable and not well kept up. Bed and bedding were really not what one would expect. All of the wooden surfaces like handrails were sticky. The biggest disappointment was the indifferent staff. They were all young kids and were not into customer service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

. We were put on the 3rd floor and I asked if there was an elevator so we could take our luggage up. the help looked at us like we grew heads. Again we talked to the desk […] clerk and see looked very unhappy at us. The ladies in the morning were more helpful and so was the housekeeping lady. the Housekeeping lady was on the 2nd floor when we came down with our lugguage and asked us if we needed help. We had less then 1 flight of stairs to go. The building had a musty smell to it. They said the Hotel was over a 100 years old. My Alligies were bothering me the whole time we were there. Night desk clerk needs to be more friendly. I would not recommend this for any handicap person. The night clerk acted like we were putting him out. If he had to run the elevator for a handicap person they would proubly still be waiting for the elevator. clark also said expedia said you have the right to cancel in 24 hours and the hotel you have to cancel in 48 hrs. This hotel was a stop for us on our way to Millerton, NY. For us it was a great location for our stopover. We only spent the night , left arund 11AM for our continuing trip. We had dinner and a few coctails at the restaurant in […] the hotel..Bogey's..food was excellent. The hotel is VERY old, so you shouldn't expect any of the usual comforts. The air-conditioner ( wall unit ) was just ok, but luckily it wasn't too hot outside. Bed was comfy, although not a lot of room to walk around the bed. I had no problem with the water temperature in the shower, but my husband said that it was cold. No elevators unless you wanted to disturb the only person working, the front desk. "Yankee Pedlar Inn - "You Get What You Pay For""
After reading the material that was available on Yankee Pedlar Inn we thought we would give it a try... the rate seemed to be bargain priced. What the brochure failed to point out was its "in city location", being shoulder to shoulder with other old buildings. What we also did not know was our arrival date coincided with a graduation ceremony being […] held directly across the street at a movie theater. Apparently the kids took advantage of the low rates and booked a block of rooms (squeezing 6 to 8 in a single room) where they partied for hours, making it almost impossible to get any sleep. The room was clean, save the desk drawer with crumbs, and central air conditioning made it comfortable. The free continental breakfast was very disappointing and without an attendant to restock coffee, mini-bagels and fruit, it was necessary to continually visit the front desk with an empty coffee dispenser or to put in a request for more food. In short, "You Get What You Pay For". Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
