"A little difficult to find, but worth the search"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Slightly difficult to find at first, but nicely updated and clean. Was very surprised that the kitchen was clean - you can just never be sure about public kitchens, but all of the appliances and surfaces throughout the room were clean. Hotel location is decent (obviously depends on what you are visiting for), but be mindful that it is on an airplane path (for Reagan) - its completely silent at night, but in full action starting at 6-7am.

The George was just as described online. The only points to add are...1.) the gym was useful to have right on-site (in the basement, no windows), with a good selection of equipment; 2.) there was a weird maintenance issue in that there was a duct-tape repair to the headboard in our room; and 3.) the french toast from room service was a little dry, but […] other food we ordered was great. Short but sweet. Dissapointed with the menu available in the resturant, possibly because it was a Sunday ?
"Good hotel for family of 4"
Convenient location, friendly staff, comfortable room, bathroom nice and beds comfortable. Felt that the room carpeting could be better vacuumed- specifically the edging. Hallways need updating as well for a Kimpton. Otherwise all was well and would return.

"Close to the Capitol/Supreme Ct./Union Station"
The sign on the back of the door said my room had a per night rate of well over 1,100...I'm not sure it was worth that, but it was definitely worth what I paid for it here. I was greeted at check-in with a glass of wine, treated to excellent service during my entire stay, and very much enjoyed my early morning runs on the Mall, which is just a stone's […] throw away. Nice hotel in a very convenient location. Read more

"LOVE Hotel George"
I can't say enough about how nice our stay was at Hotel George. The service we received was fantastic. My 8 year old son and I stayed in a room and he was treated like a king with all of the amenities of the Kids Club like his milk and cookies brought to the room, a movie, and the Wii in the lobby during the wine reception. The hotel is so convenient […] to Union Station. My mom and I enjoyed a delightful wine tasting and we could not get over how friendly and helpful the front desk staff were. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Washington DC. Read more

"Very nice place, but not without it's drawbacks."
Recently stayed at The George for pleasure for 5 days. My wife and I seek smaller, "boutique" properties and this was exactly the type we like. First, the good. The service was ABSOLUTELY top notch! Amongst the best we've encountered, ever. The property was clean, well decorated, and in overall good condition. It's also in a very good location if you […] have business at our nations Capitol or want to be an easy walk to the National Mall or Union Station. Also, the Bistro Bis restaurant attached to the hotel is amongst the BEST I've ever had....and we've eaten in some very, very nice places! BUT, it had a few issues, too. First off, the place is SMALL! And my small, I mean very, very small. In the interest of full disclosure, it's about what you'd expect in DC, but we would have liked a bigger sized room. Interestingly, the bath didn't carry the "small" theme....it was nicely sized. Also, the rooms would certainly benefit from a refresh. For example, the carpet in our room was noticeably worn and there were cracked tiles in the bathroom. My final critique would be about the location - while it's GREAT for getting to the Mall, the Capitol, and the Chinatown area, it's also just one short block from the main DC homeless shelter. While my wife and I had NO issues with it, it certainly wasn't a feature of the walk home in the evenings that we looked forward to. Overall, I'd highly recommend The George if you're looking for a smaller, unique property in a great location. Read more
"The George Hotel Washington D.C."
Very accommodating front desk; very pleasant staff delicious food in restaurant "Bis". Only comment is very expensive wireless charges unless you have a laptop and are willing to join their affinity group.
"Hotel George was very subpar"
Upon arrival concierge was very friendly, even upgraded us. The main lobby is very upgraded and modern. However, when we got to our floor, the hallways smelled of an old hospital. You could tell it was an old building. Upon arrival into our room, we saw that there were drips of pee on the toilet seat! Maybe the housekeeping went to relieve herself but […] then left that?! So disgusting. We were tired and had an early train to catch in the morning so i did not bother to say anything. But it irked me so bad and left me feeling disgusted that i will never return to this hotel again. Nor would i recommend it. Liason Hotel nearby is much better for a comparable price. Read more

We loved our stay! Clean room Walking distance from Union Station Walking distance to the Mall Nice restaurant Wine reception Attentive staff Perfect.
"Hotel George - perfect for visit to DC"
Great location for museums and sites. Room and amenities very good. Hotel staff outstanding. Our daughter loved Wii in lobby at night. My wife and I enjoyed happy hour from 5:00-6:00pm
"Great Hotel"
I love this hotel. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Any request I had was immediately taken care of. The room was very comfortable and quiet and a perfect location for me. I also enjoyed the adjoining restaurant.
Very convenient location to the main sights of DC. It's a well kept hotel with good sized rooms. Union station is a block away, which gives access to the entire area. I would definitely stay there again.
I chose to stay at the Hotel George for 1 night as a tiny getaway. I wanted to be able to spend time sightseeing all of the monuments and the Smithsonian Museums. THE BAD: The hotel is apx a 5 minute walk from Union Station (good place to get fast food) and from the Capitol. It is however apx 30 -35 minute walk to get to the National Mall (where all […] the museums are). This was ok the first day but by the end of the second day it seemed much further away. The street that the hotel is located on (E St) was a bit scary. I would not want to walk down it after dark. There were loiters down the street but never in front of the hotel. THE GOOD: The hotel took care of us right away with great customer service. We valeted our car, checked in and were off to our room. The King Suite is what we booked. The bed had great pillows and linens, but nothing in the room said "Suite" to me. There was a bed, 2 end tables, an IHome dock (loved it), tv, desk and a chair. Our view was the brick wall 10 feet away. The shower was amazing (water pressure, shampoo, conditioner and body wash included). We ate dinner at the restaurant included in the hotel, Bis. The food was delicious and the place was packed! The hotel also offers a free wine happy hour between 5 and 6 everyday. That was a nice surprise. I would go back if I needed a place close to Union Staion, otherwise I would choose something closer to the touristy attractions (7th St.)... Read more
"The George Hotel - Pleased"
Recently stayed here for a 1-night business trip - hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. Room was comfortable and clean, only down-side was my view faced another building so it was a little dark in there, cell reception was poor and there was construction outside that woke me at 5:45 (it happens, not faulting the hotel.) The fitness center […] was very nice - one of the better ones I've seen at a hotel. The hotel restaurant was very popular - bartenders could have been better, poor attitude (in my opinion). Overall, was a pleasant hotel, would stay there again! Read more

"Good, but not great"
The George was tripadvisor's #3 hotel in DC when I booked a room, and I went in expecting a lot. It is a nice enough hotel, but really nothing exceptional. The lobby is colourful and trendy, but the hallways leading to the rooms themselves are quite drab and cheerless. The rooms are nice - comfy chair and bed, and a shower with great pressure. The […] service was always exceptionally friendly and courteous, but a little uneven. When I checked in I was given the key to a room that was being serviced; the workman was using the bathroom as I walked in. Not ideal. Later in my stay the room service lady came in without knocking on one occasion. Again, not a big deal, but just not what I would expect from the #3 hotel. The wine hour that they tout isn't very impressive. I'm no sommelier, but it seemed the glass of wine served to me came from a a pretty cheap bottle. Still, it's a nice touch, and it's more than other hotels in this price range do. Its location is what makes this hotel standout. The proximity to the Metro and Amtrak make it a breeze to get to get around from. Other reviews mentioned construction noise; I wasn't disturbed by noise at all during my stay. All in all, a nice hotel, but it didn't live up to its billing. I suppose it suffered from the weight of its own reputation. I would go back. Read more

The George was a "chance finding", but it turned out to be fabulous indeed. Great service, wonderful attentive staff who went out of their way to make your stay memorable. We went here for the celebration of my wife's brithday and when they found out about that, the staff offered us that day a limousine to drive us around. Where do you find this kind […] of service ? Daily happy hour; choice of newspaper; nice restaurant.... We definitely will want to come back to this hotel. The location of the hotel was perfect... a block away from Union station and only a little further from the Capitol and the Mall. Read more

We have stayed at the George many times, and the experience is always the same, FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Excellent Service"
My husband and I came down from Boston for the Army/Navy Game and to see the sights of DC. Loved the city and had a very enjoyable stay at the hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Would recommend to friends.
"worth the rate"
Good hotel, however there is construction next door and our romm was next to construction (might ask about this on check in). I am a member of thier loyalty program and get free wifi & $10 off minibar purchases. Wine in lobby is nice. Close to Verizon Center & Union Station. Would stay again if price was right and I was arriving by train.
"Kimpton never fails"
The George, like every other Kimpton property at which I've stayed, was just terrific. The people, the rooms, the atmosphere. Not a single complaint!
"Great Capitol Hill site"
Very convenient to the Hill and to Union Station. Easy to walk to metro and sites around Capitol Hill. Just did a quick overnight for a meeting, but all worked well.
"Highly Recommend; Will stay at George Hotel again!`"
Comfortable, quiet room, lovely linen and large clean bathroom - the necessities of a pleasant hotel stay. Concierge staff EXCELLENT, knowledgeable about things my husband and I were interested in exploring. Very helpful; were happy to answer multiple questions about area atrractions, subway lines, restaurants and finding an authentic jazz joint; […] personable, easy to work with. Bravo! Read more
"Nice hotel, construction in area a temporary ding"
The George is a nice boutique treasure. They could not have been more pleasant and helpful. The only problem, and it is not within their control is the construction of the new office building next door. The sidewalk going toward Union Station is constricted and the construction noise is present. You may want to request a room facing opposite the construction. […] Otherwise highly recommend. "Room location is key during nearby construction"
With nearby construction underway, getting a room on the side of the hotel away from the related noise is essential. After a 6am awakening in a room exposed to the construction noise the first night, the front desk staff was helpful and accommodating when I asked to move to a quiet room for the second night. You can ensure a quiet stay throughout by […] requesting a quiet room from the start. Not the hotel's fault, and probably not an issue on weekend mornings. Great restaurant on site. Read more
"great place to stay for capital hill meetings"
Blocks from Uion Station. Blocks from Senate office buildings. Room ans staff were great. Downside- a building being constructed next door. Loud construction noise in the AM, but i'm sure that is temporary.
"George Hotel in DC - not clean"
Staff was friendly and helpful. But room had months of dust and dirt in bathroom, mold in shower raggedy blinds, bar fridge was not cold. Location was just a block from Union station and a starbucks so we were able to get an affordable breakfast and have a choice of reasonable food for lunch and dinner. cost of an omelete was outragious. If they would […] ensure the rooms are really cleaned it would have been a 3 or 4 for overall rating. only thing that made it a 2 was due to the wonderful staff. Read more

"Nice Hotel, Good Location"
We took the train to DC to tour the museums and monuments. The hotel was a couple of blocks from union station. We walked to the Capital, Smithsonian, Natural history Museum, Air and Space Museum and American Indian Museum. It was a full day and a lot of walking but we had a great time, and slept well! (Wish that I had my pedometer, not sure just how […] far we walked in the two days). The bed was quite comfortable! We did have trouble finding restaurants, although there is one in the hotel. We were ready to eat at by 5:00 but they did not serve dinner until 5:30, so we went to Union Station which a few nice choices including Pizzeria Uno, America and a nice Cafe', as well as SBarro's, and others. Overall a nice stay, good price, nice room! We would stay again. Read more
"a noisy evening"
My only complaint for my stay waseven with the windows closed, the jackhammering/construction noise from the building next door into the early morning hours couldn't allow me to get a full night sleep.
"Day and night"
My overall experience was okay. The day shift at the hotel was impeccable from Mike who checked me in early, to Jasmine who accommodated my every issue. The issues I have with the hotel are the beds they moved from the wall easily they weren't bolted down. The night shift was very inattentive to my parking needs I was very turned off by that. The cost […] of parking is ridiculous, many improvements need to be made Read more
"VERY Noisy from 5 am on"
