"Location, location, location"
We had booked this wanting to be close to the sights and close to the Atocha train station where we arrived in Madrid from a repositioning cruise ending in Barcelona. Imagine my delight when we walked out of the station and saw the National 300 yds away. The Hotel is a Historic bldg. and has been remodeled nicely. Staff friendly and helpful, room overlooking […] the Botanical gardens and another 300yds to Prada Museo. We opted out of the Hotel breakfast thought it was too expensive and there are many resturants around and a Mickey Dees next door. Also hop-on hop-off stop in front. Great hotel for the price, nothing fancy but clean and great location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for us"
We were only there one day before going to Cordoba and being close to both the Prado and Atocha station helped us make the most of our day. The surrounding neighborhood is mediocre and solid food options are limited but the hotel itself was quite good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A Perfect Hotel"
The NH Hacional may be the perfect tourist hotel in Madrid. It is a short walk from the Prado, the Reina Sofa, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza art museums, three of the great art museums of the world. Once you have had enough Goyas, there is a subway stop near-by and a stop for the "hop-on hop-off" bus literally at the front door. As for coming and going, […] the main train station is across the street with high speed trains to the rest of Spain and an airport bus that will get you to or from the airport for 5 Euros. Oh, yes, there's a McDonalds in the same building. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The Heart of Madrid"
NH Nacional is in the heart of Madrid, directly across from the magnificent Prado Museum and the Botanical Garden. Frequent and inexpensive tour buses stop directly in front of the hotel, a wonderful way to see the sights because for one price you can get on and off the bus for the entire day. Also near are the Atocha and the Atocha Renfre train stations, […] clean and fast rides to anywhere you might want to go. Buy the weekly or ten-ride ticket for a bargain. Madrid is the cleanest large city I've ever seen, with friendly people and tons of things to see. My Spanish is a little rusty, but everyone I met was patient and helpful. "Too expensive for the service"
Hotel is well located close to metro station and main tourist destinations within Madrid. The service was not good. Staff at lobby not well prepared. Not even close to professional. Seems that they are all new and don't know basic things (directions...) they should know. Internet service very slow. You have to change passwords every day. Every other […] day they forgot to put towels in the room. The main entrance was blocked because of a problem with the door. 5 days later problem was still there. "A bit cramped"
The room (standard double) was a bit cramped, even by European standards; this was amplified by a rather odd furniture arrangement. Our room was clean, but some of the furnishings were dated (and rather worn from use) and general maintenance was lacking - room HVAC did not function properly, thermostat was damaged, and tub drain from the room above […] leaked thru the ceiling vent onto our toilet (a rather rude awakening in the morning). Common areas were quite nice, although there were issues with the entry doors from the street. Great location, directly across from the Botanical Gardens and very close to main train station. Overall, not the worst hotel experience, but very far from the best. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice hotel with modern rooms, very limited wifi"
This was a nice and well-maintained hotel. The rooms were modern in design and had a few quirks in their layout (e.g., in the closet and bathroom). Their claim of free wireless internet access is basically a lie, though, since the free connection that they offer is severely limited in both bandwidth and total data transfer per day. The location is […] quite close to the major museums, and the Atocha train station, but a bit further from the interesting parts of the center of Madrid (20 minutes walk, or a few stops on the metro). "Great location, great value"
I'd recommend this hotel in a heartbeat. We took the bus from the airport and the hotel is just a short walk across the street. The hotel is close to dining, shopping, parks, museums, and the train station (which was perfect for our day trips!) We were in Madrid for over a week and rarely had to take a cab to see attractions. Some of the rooms are adjacent […] to a discotecque. We were originally put in one, but when we requested a different room we were accomodated right away. That being said, the walls are still pretty thin so even if you're not next to the dance club, if you're a light sleeper it's a good idea to bring earplugs. Neither my husband nor I speak much Spanish which we were worried about, but all of the people at the front desk spoke great English. Rooms are not huge, but we weren't there much anyway since we did so much sightseeing. Like I said, we'd stay there again! Great value for such a large city! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"close to train station and metro"
Hotel was nice, location great. Took day trips so it was just a walk across the street to get the train. It was the most expensive of all the rooms we stayed in on this trip, (Barcelona, Valencia & Paris), but really my biggest complaint was that they charged for use of the computer. All the other less expensive places provided computers as a courtesy.... […] kind of a slap in the face to pay top dollar and then be charged extra for every little thing. Room was comfortable, building kept up nicely. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

A wonderful location nearby kapital (a famous nightclub) and the Prado museum. Close to las huertas, an area of bars and restaurants, and close to the atocha train and metro station. This hotel seems to be geared towards the business and foreign traveler. Located in an extremely busy section of Madrid just steps away from Atocha train station. The room was very nice and more luxurious than the pictures indicated. Even though it was on a very noisy street, the room was quiet (except for the annoying sound of the elevator but the […] interior door inside the room eliminated that noise as well). We were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very convenient hotel."
Rather small room, well appointed, modern style, comfortable bed, well located, very good shower, very good heating. Unlimited internet access also a plus.Genuine Expedia guest review
The room is small and very basicly furnished (with colored plastic desk chair!), no facial tissue in the bathroom. We arrived at the end of Oct. and there was a cold current hitting the city at the time, however, the AC in our room didn't work, while outside temperature was around 50F during the day. Worst of all, after we reported the problem to the […] front desk twice and they promised to have someone check it out, the AC still didn't function at all up untill almost midnight, and the temperature would drop to mid30s' that night. So with no hope getting the AC fixed we insisted having our room changed. When everything settled it was almost 1:00am. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel for convenient location"
Great location, only couple blocks from the Atocha Train Station. Botanic Garden is across the street, next to it is the Prado Museum etc. There is a metro station just around the corner and bus stops are also across the street. If one wishes, walking to sights like Plaza Mayor is an option. The airport express bus stops at the Atocha Train Station. The […] hotel is well kept, very pleasing lobby area. The room and the bathroom are clean and pleasant. Only thing missing is a coffee maker or tea kettle. TV is rather small if that matters. Free Wi Fi but you have to get a different password everyday. Breakfast included and the choices are plentiful. Staff in general are polite but cool. Does not offer much information beyond your specific question. Because the hotel is located on a major street, expect some noises even when the window is closed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel to stay for couple days."
Hotel location is pretty convinient, metro station just across the road, hop-on/off bus stop in front of hotel. A lot of places to eat around. Stuffs were friendly, ready to help. Water didn't darin very well from the sink and it was fxed immediately. Breakfast was very good, lot of fresh fruits. But room Iisolation wasn't good, our window faced very […] busy and noisy street also we could hear our neighbors. So we didn't sleep very well and felt tired in the end of our 4 nights stay. They didn't provide with slippers and other toiletries we have expected to get in 4 stars hotel, only basics -shampoo, toothpaste and shower gel. We had all we needed in previous hotel also 4 stars. "Great Hotel for Visiting Museums"
The Nh Nacional is a 15 minute walk from the Prado & even closer to the Reina Sofia Museum. It is also a 15 minute walk from the Atocha train station, which we used to travel between Barcelona and Madrid. There are good Tapas bars between the hotel and the attractions. We didn't need a taxi during our visit. The staff was very helpful with confirming […] our plane reservation. The free Wi-Fi worked well in the lounge, but not in our room. Another draw back was the beds, which tended to roll away from the wall if you used them as lounge chairs to watch tv. However, they were comfortable for sleeping, which was mainly how we used them. "No frills but terrific location"
This is a comfortable, no-frills hotel with an unbeatable location. The rooms are on the small side but are well appointed, the breakfast buffet offers fresh, very good food. The location is amazing, however: just 10 minutes to the Atocha train station, 5 minutes to the Prado and the Reina Sofia museums, plenty of cafes and bars nearby.Genuine Expedia guest review

We spent three nights there. Asked for a room high up towards the rear and were given 729. Perfectly quiet. Excellent buffet breakfast included in our rate. Hotel was nice and the staff efficeint. Biggest complaint is that of a hotel of this calibre, and with the existance of free internet in the lobby, I had to pay to access the kiosk to print a boarding pass. The cost was per page for printing and timed for interent accessGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, but wifi isn't free in the rooms"
It was a nice room and everything was clean and comfortable. I have 2 things I wish were different. First, having wifi in the hotel room is a must for a 4 star hotel nowadays and they wanted to charge for it. Plus they only allowed 30 minutes of free wifi in the lobby per day. This greatly limited my time to check emails for work and research our itinerary […] for our trip. Second, there is no concierge or area of tourist information in the hotel. The front desk was helpful to a point, but this is also a necessity that was missing. Again, the rooms were very nice, just a few key things that should make this a hotel worth visiting again. Otherwise we'll go somewhere else. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Near Train Station & Reina Sofia Museum."
Location was good for connecting with Atocha train station & catching a bus to the airport. It's located at intersection of very busy roads with heavy traffic and noise. Hotel staff was very helpful in providing local information and bus routes. Breakfast was a little pricey when you can eat at a cafe in the corner for 3/4 less.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Atocha train station and El Prado Museum"
Excellent location. Walking distance to to the Atocha train station and El Prado museum. Spacious, quiet and clean room. The breakfast buffet is expensive, but there are several alternatives for breakfast nearby. Double-decker tourist bus stops in front of the hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The service in the hotel was great. It is close to the train station and metro, and to the Prado. But if you like a little more action, it would be wiser to stay closer to the main plazas. "You can find better"
I'm a frequent business traveller to Madrid and have stayed in at least 12 different hotels in the city center in the areas known as Sol, Retiro and Atocha in the past 5 years. I reserved at NH Nacional thinking this was the NH Paseo del Prado, which is about 3 blocks away on the same street. My room at Nacional was sub-par compared to several other […] hotels nearby, including the sister hotel up the street. It was small and cramped, with a view on a dingy small interior courtyard. Interior courtyard -view rooms often are quiet (which I'd requested) but my room turned out to be next to the housekeepers' supply room. I didn't realize this the first morning, as I had very early meetings and left my room before the housekeepers arrived. The second morning, when I was indulging some US-to-Europe jetlag and had later meetings, I was woken by multiple very loud voices, banging buckets, running water, and rolling carts from about 7:30am. Another drawback was the 10.60 euro charge for wi-fi and, worst of all, the signal was very weak. This is a deal-breaker for me when traveling for business. I won't stay there again. On the plus side, the hotel is in a convenient location for train travelers as it is next to the Atocha train station. But the subway system is so good and easy to navigate, even for non-Spanish speakers, that being located next to the train station shouldn't dissuade travelers from finding something better and cheaper farther away. the other advantage of this hotel is its also across the street from the botanic gardens (worth the visit!) and the Prado (obviously worth the visit!), the Reina Sofia, and a short walk to Plaza Santa Ana, the Thyssen, etc.. Its a fairly large hotel with a decent lobby and good breakfast. But it isn't anything special. Whether you are in Madrid for tourism or work, there are many similarly-priced hotels that have nicer rooms, more interesting decor or are in historical buildings, and that are in nearby or better areas. "1990s feel to it...."
A very basic hotel for business travelers in a great location of Madrid. As usual, internet WiFi is very expensive and there is no gym in the hotel. Breakfast was simple and very good. "Best Location in Madrid"
This is an ideal location. The train station is across the street, the same station that has a train line to the airport (C1 Atocha). "Short leisure trip review"
Short break in Madrid in mid October. Room was spacious and clean, bedding of good quality with comfortable pillows. Air conditioning didn't work - receptionist admitted this was the case. We could neither heat up nor cool down the room. Windows were badly glazed but room looked out onto a central main road - the result was extreme noise 24/7 making […] it hard to sleep deeply. No team or coffee making facility but available in lobby - extremely early however from 7am, not good for leisure visits. "Good hotel in a good area"
The hotel is fairly decent. The room was big as was the bathroom. I booked a double room but the bed was two singles put together as they moved away from the wall a lot. Wifi was pretty slow. I hate when hotels say thy had free wifi but to get decent wifi you need to pay extra! Overall a decent experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good location for a general visit to Madrid. Reception was friendly and helpful. Our bedroom, graded as Superior, was reasonably spacious with good table, cupboard and shelf space. The furniture was all in excellent condition. The room temperature was too warm for us despite having the airconditioning set to the minimum. The bathroom had a shower over […] the bath, not to our liking and a safety hazard in our opinion. Also the bathroom had a translucent glass door not to our liking. The breakfast room was spacious and attractive with a good variety of food available. But for those who take only a small breakfast very poor value for money. The price would have bought us a reasonable lunch or supper at some quite good tapas restaurants. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quiet, lovely hotel in great location"
We stayed at NH Nacional at the beginning and end of May, our time in Madrid bookending a month of travel throughout Spain. In both instances, we opted to pay for a room upgrade upon checkin -- in the first case, the room didn't seem particularly special, but in the second instance, it was well worth the extra few € per night. The rooms are quiet, clean, […] and tastefully appointed and the upgraded rooms have a gorgeous view of the park. The NH breakfasts are epic, and worth what you will pay if you add it to your room -- you can eat gorgeous food, made to order eggs, drink fresh squeezed juices for hours!
