Elevator was dusty and dirty. Room had a terrible smell. Bed sheets were gray looking and dirty looking. I would not stay there again even if the rate was $0.00 . Breakfast was horrible, no bin for trash in breakfast room. Cut fruit was left sitting open.

We rolled in lat enight and were greeted warmly. The sports bar in the lounge has the cheapest Guinness in Vancouver! The room was older, but clean and comfortable.

This is an older hotel on the decline, right off Kingsway with the atmosphere of a hostel. Public areas were not clean. The room was small, although the mattress was decent. The housekeeping staff was helpful. The continental breakfast was mediocre and they ran out of hardboiled eggs. Parking was inadequate--we had to find street parking.

It's old, run down and tired! It is a popular place for locals and travelers to congregate at the bar, especially for karaoke nights. But the hotel is a disaster in this day and age of modern design and cultural influences. If they are to survive, they need a major upgrade or tear it down to build a new hotel. Not worth the money! The hotel was not as advertised. We had to change room three times in a three day stay. The beds are doubles or 3/4 beds not queens. When I asked about this I was told they were Canadian queens. Even though they advertise no smoking rooms we could not get away from the smell of cigarettes until we were moved to the fifth floor away from the bar. The hotel has some wear-and-tear but the rooms seem to be generally clean and in ok condition while the breakfast room seems a bit old. If you use the hotel mainly for just sleeping and acknowledge that this is a low(ish)-budget hotel and don't expect five-star conditions, I doubt it would matter a lot. The price included free breakfast and free wi-fi […] (which was not mentioned in the hotel description). The hotel is located within good, easy, and relatively quick public transportation (~20-30 minutes from downtown in the evening with SkyTrain & bus even if you'd have to wait for the bus a bit; 10 minutes from the Pacific Central Station (Amtrak)). If Howard Johnson stands for anything it doesn't at this hotel. I arrived late from 10 frankfurt/vancourver flight. I called the p;roperty: they had no record according to the desk clerk. I was too tired to argue so I got another hotel. Next morning I asked about room at the property: they had the reservation. I asked to move it forward oone day: she […] said I had to call hotel.com. I said fine I will taket the room now at 11 am since I paid for it the prior night. 1/2 hour wait and then went to the room which smelled and the general condition of the hotel was hot up to francise standards. Their HJ franchise should be revoked and I will nvever try another Howard Johnsons. I am an executive at a financial service firm and have extensive travel experience. Read more

This hotel was not the best, the pictures on the site need to be updated, there is lots of construction going on around the hotel, the room we stayed in had a good view but i would imagine its not so great in other rooms and the hotel really needs to be upgraded, however if you are just looking for a "place to sleep" then this is the place for you, […] it is in a good location, bus stop right in front, it has a club downstairs, there are restaurants and coffee shops and bars and a grocery store all within walking distance. This is an older hotel with a few rough edges but was very comfortable and clean. All the staff were helpful and courteous. The rooms are a little small but in all was priced accordingly. We'd do this again and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

Hotel was old and dingy. Our room was not cleaned & had to transfer to the adjacent room. Breakfast had a decent spread. Parking at hotel was very limited. Price of hotel was high for it's condition. Would not recommend this hotel to family or friends.

The hotel is close to public transportation. It was easy to take the bus and light rail to downtown. A supermarket is close, as are lots of restaurants and Starbucks. There were drunk people lurking in the lobby repeatedly asking us for money or alcohol. When we said no again and again, they screamed at us and one attempted to take my bag. The hotel staff observed this, told us that the people were not guests, and when we asked them to call the police they said the police had already been there and the people came […] back. We were in a hurry to get to the Metallica concert at 7pm, we checked in at 6 on the fourth floor to find our room was a disaster of the previous guests filthy leftover party. Towels, sheets, garbage everywhere, reaked of urine in the bathroom etc. They hadn't cleaned it yet, so we go downstairs with all our stuff to get a new room. Rushing to get ready, […] we open door number two to have a stale smell of old cigarettes pour out into the hallway. Very gross, I would have gotten cancer if I stayed overnight. Booking (via Hotels.com) was a little confusing, as although webpages had indicated free wi-fi and that breakfasts were included, the emails received implied that there might be extra costs for breakfast and wi-fi. Although a basic hotel, I was suprised to have breakfast with disposable plates (paper) and cutlery (plastic). Also the start of breakfast […] (07:30) was rather late for those who had to get downtown (several miles away) in time for an 08:20 meeting. Wi-fi password control seemed awkward, with unmemorable IDs and passwords being valid for only 24 hours. This hotel is very tired and in need of major upgrade. Room was very small, hard to sit on the toilet as it is too close to bathtub. Had to move chair that serves the desk so we could walk to other side of bed. Room was not serviced for second night. Wiring circuits were jammed with extention corda and add on plug- ins.
