"Times Square Nugget"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
We really enjoyed our stay. We stayed for a week and were glad to find a hotel right in the heart of Times Square. The service was definitely top notch! The front desk was courteous and the concierge was very helpful, recommending great shows and restaurants. Our room was nice. It could've been a little larger. But the bathroom was a good size and the size of the TV's and the fact that they played HD was a bonus. Also, the bed was quite comfortable. The cleaning staff did a fine job of keeping up the room. I'll definitely recommend this hotel to others.
"Consistency. You can depend on it."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Finding a "GOOD THING" these days can get harder and harder. For this reason when you come across a 'good thing" it is priceless. One of the most recent "good things " that I have come across is the PARAMOUNT hotel in Times Square. The first thing that I leave the hotel impressed by is the professionalism and commitment that is demonstrated by the staff. Starting with the front desk where I was checked in by Catherine and continuing until the driver which I received at the hotel hands me my luggage at the airport. Catherine followed the details of my visit until the moment I checked out. The only dislike that I had which eventually i got over was the view of the alley where the boiler or some loud machine was placed. I know that from now on I will request a room that faces anywhere but there. If you are going to New York and plan on taking in Broadway there could not be a more perfect location. I love this hotel so much I find myself wanting to travel to NYC more. I cannot wait until my next visit to the PARAMOUNT which I hope will be in the next few weeks.

We had a very good time and the hotel was close to work.
""Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Very nice hotel, within walking distance to subway for access to Manhattan (take the 7 or E and you can get to grand central, times square, penn station). Just a few blocks to local restaraunts. The room was very clean, excellent staff, free shuttle to subway. Overall an excellent place to stay if your touring new york city. One note, if you are considering a "view room" save your money, the view is obstructed by a number of taller buildings (the hotel is only 7 floors). Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely stay again, especially at the rate because of the new hotel discount. If you plan to take a cab from the hotel call one yourself because the service the hotel uses charges a flat rate to specific areas and you can get a cab on your own for cheaper generally.
"Nice hotel in the theatre district"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Very nice hotel in the theatre district. Friendly and helpful staff. Basic room accomodations but very clean. Would recommend.

"Great customer service"
Great customer service! My experience with the hotel staff was excellent. They helped me with requests when I checked in and out to get transportation etc.
"Hospitable staff"
No fault of yours. This was the smallest room I ever stayed in. Barely enough room to turn around in. Also, it was a very chilly night, and there was no heat. The room service did supply my wife and me with an extra blanket, and a space heater. I enjoyed entertaining my guests in the 10th floor lounge

Customer service was very good. Was disappointed with the Polar lounge. 10th floor sun deck was nice but was shocked at the cost of continental breakfast. Overall not worth the price!
"Failed to honor booking"
Showed up at the hotel and they didn't have the room i had prepaid for. Got moved cross-town into a noisy room in an inconvenient location.

"The Marcel at Gramercy"
Hot water took a real long time to come and on last day there it never came. Floors were uneven and creaked alot. Lumpy bed. Shower plumbed backward (hot water was where cold should be) Real nice folks at the desk and at the door. Very helpful

"Marcel at Gramercy a great NYC hotel"
I've stayed here several times and it's my new favorite NYC hotel. This is a stylish place with nice amenities, a great staff, in a location that makes it easy to get downtown or uptown or just mill around. The rooms are small compared to the big chain hotels, but they are comfy and chic. Winebar & restaurant attached for late night dining.
"Marcel at Gramercy"
I have stayed here three times. The desk clerks are very helpful and the doormen are cheerful and always ready to answer questions. The rooms are immaculate and comfortable. Brilliant use of a small space without feeling cramped. Love the view from the rooftop terrace. Lower key neighborhood, yet within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and sights. […] My husband and I will be back! Read more
"Hotel not bad, but the bar in the basement sucks"
The drians were very slow, the TV did not work and a few other issues that were annoying, but I had no problem dealing with. However, the Bar in the basement - I believe it's called Polar or something like that - is the worst experience of my trip. Rude and obnoxious. It's a joke of a bar and not worth the effort to walk down the steps. You can find […] lots of great bars and resturants in the same neighborhood. Read more

"The Marcel at Gramercy"
Felt new and clean. All staff members encountered--front desk, cleaning, and bellboys--were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Great price for limo service back to LaGuardia Airport. Only 1 complaint -- not enough surfaces (tables, shelves) to put items on. No counter space in bathroom. Highly recommend hotel.
"GREAT HOTEL! GREAT PRICE!"
BEAUTIFUL BOUTIQUE HOTEL! EXTREMELY PLEASANT STAFF! VERY WELCOMING! PERFECT FOR VISITS TO THE NEW SCHOOL, NYU AND BETH ISRAEL MED CENTER. VERY CLOSE TO UNION SQUARE. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND! FULL BATHS! NICE ROOMS! WILL DEFINATELY RETURN!
"Great hotel"
Great hotel in a perfect location. Staff were very friendly and hard working. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Only thing I was concerned about was the noise from the hallway, the door didn't seem to be insulated very well and I was afraid the noise in the hallway would keep me up at night. But after 10:30pm there was not much noise coming […] from the hallway and I was able to sleep soundly through the night. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Read more

"Marcel at Gramercy Rocks"
Great place; superb service; exceptional value.
"No hot water!"
There was no hot water in the hotel. Also we were originally in a tiny room with a dirty sheet on the bed, but after we complained about the hot water we were moved to a slightly larger and much more noisy room.
"The Marcel at Gramercy- cute but noisy"
I recently stayed at the Marcel at Gramercy because I had a business meeting in NYC. At first, it started out great. The decor is very trendy and there is an electronic fireplace in the lobby. Lindsey at the front desk was very helpful and nice. I had made some requests about the room while booking and she was able to fulfill them. When I got to my […] room, it was also trendy and cute. It was small, but not as small as I was expecting (1 person with a double bed). It would have been nice if they had the racks for the suitcase, especially since its NYC and with the bed bug problem in the city its best not to put your belongings on the floor. Speaking of bed bugs, I searched under the mattress and did not notice any sign of them and the room was very clean. I was concerned about the fact that my room was right next to the elevator, since I would need to get my sleep while everyone else was out partying. I asked the front desk twice if they could move me, but they said there were no other rooms available and they were completely booked. I'm not sure that I believed them- it was a weekday during a non-tourist heavy month. When I finally went to bed there were no problems, but between 1:30-3:30 am I was constantly woken up by the elevators and the people in them. Needless to say, I was very frustrated and annoyed by this as I had to be awake before 5 am. You can't expect a hotel to be silent all the time, but this was much more noise than in any hotel I've ever stayed at. In summary, the staff at the front desk and the doorman (Raul) were really great, the decor is neat, but this is not the place to stay if you are on business or another important trip as it will be very hard to sleep. If there are 2 of you in NYC for a night a fun, then this is the hotel for you. Read more
"The Marcel at Gramercy-Nice but Noisy"
This is a wonderful small hotel. Everything about the hotel was great except that my room was incredibly noisy due to street noise (cars/trucks) all night. My room faced the strret and was near the corner of 3rd avenue. I will go back but will request a room on the other side of the hotel. All else terrific.

"Marcel Hotel"
Not really in Gramercy, but the main problem was the teeny tiny rooms - the doors practically hit the bed. There was not even room for a closet, just a bench with drawers, and barely a walkway around the bed. The single narrow window looked at a dark, sunless alley that was as good as no window. The first room we were shown had no window. Not for clausterphobics. Also, […] we ordered a 6 pm wake-up call in order to nap before going to a show, and it never came. It did come at 6 am the next morning when we were trying to sleep in. Not a repeater for me. Read more
Very good...everything was great
"one of my fave nyc hotels but..."
expect the rooms to be teeeny tiny! We were upgraded, and even then we spent the whole night tripping over everything. Otherwise, perfect
"Marcel Hotel NYC"
This is an inexpensive hotel in a convenient location. The rooms are small, the bathroom smaller, but it was clean. Rooms have newer decor, but need major work to bring them up to modern building standards. Don't go if you are expecting luxury, it is not that kind of hotel. If you want something affordable and safe this is the hotel for you.
"Room"
When I called for the reservation as well as when we showed up I was told we would have the existing bed and a cot. The room was SO small there was no room for a cot. My daughter and I had to sleep in this 3/4 size bed together which was uncomfortable. If they had attempted to put a cot in there it would have blocked the doorway- if there had been a […] fire there would have been no way out. The room was as big as a closet. I have never been in a smaller room in any state we have visited. Read more
"Marcel at Gramercy - affordable in a safe place"
very small room, but comfortable. Nice staff. Parking is public, 3 garages to choose from on the block.
"Not Bad - Not Great"
The room with a king size bed is tiny. The HVAC unit sounds like a large aircraft is landing in the room. The bathroom is impossible to turn around in and the bathtub had a slow drain so you would stand in about 2" of water. The claim of cable channels was limited to the most basic channels, including 3 channels of NY1. However, the bed was very comfortable, […] you could barely hear any neighbors, the staff was helpful and accommodating, and it is in a nice neighborhood. Go downstairs for a drink at Inoteca! Nice place...only downfall small beds. My husbands feet were off the edge, but overall for a NYC hotel at the price can't beat it :)
"Marcel Grammercy - great location, great staff"
We thorougly enjoyed our stay at The Marcel at Grammercy. The staff are amazing, they are willing to do anything they can to make your time there more enjoyable, and they are most friendly. The are has a lot to offer in the way of restaurants and bars and things to do, it's also a nice walk to the more "touristy" spots. We would definitely return and […] recommend!! Read more
small rooms but it works for the price. close to my office and shopping. staff is very nice.
"Marcel-great neighborhood"
Relatively new conversion from apartments. The rooms are average size for NYC (i.e., very small for the price compared to any other US city). Our room had a single small window that looked out on a brick wall, but I am not complaining. An interior window is a blessing, because there was no street noise. A quiet night's sleep is worth losing the view! […] Nice place, very friendly and helpful staff. Simple rooms available in a great neighborhood that needed a better hotel--and now there is one. "Hotel Marcel - NYC"
This is a perfectly satisfactory hotel. That said, our experience was not entirely perfect or satisfactory. The bathroom is not well lighted - I had to put on makeup standing by the window sill and while that had a certain Tree Grows in Brooklyn feel, it required being fully clothed. TV remote didn't work and there was no luggage rack, problems that […] might have been solved by calling the front desk. The pricey continental breakfast was of the same quality as the free one at Motel 6. The area is not one of NYC's more exciting, although it's near the Empire State Building. Limited shopping - I hit a thrift shop and an American Apparel - and limited restaurants - although we had a delicious meal at Tredice a few blocks away. We probably won't go back, but it's not a bad value. There's an Italian restaurant next door, a bar in the basement. At check-in the man in front of us - much younger than we are - announced himself as a satisfied return customer. Read more

Very pleased with our stay at the Marcell at Gramercy, exceptionally friendly staff at every encounter, nice 10th floor lounge with a great roof top deck where you can enjoy views of the Empire State bldg etc plus convenient parking across the street.

"Great hotel"
Great little hotel, quiet and clean. Only gripe is that we wanted to have a bottle of wine in our room but the front desk didn't have a bottle opener. They said that they would have someone bring it to our room within 5 minutes, this never happened. After waiting for a while my husband finally went out and bought one from a store. No one ever came to […] our room with the bottle opener, I think they just told us they have one to get rid of us but it would have been easier to just say they didn't have one. Read more

"Marcel at Gramercy - small but comfortable"
There must have been a two-foot radius around the edge of my bed, and my view of a classic NYC alleyway was unique... but the room and hotel were clean and the bed was comfortable. No shower door or curtain to speak off, so I made a "water mess" with every shower, but I guess that ends up being the cleaning staff's problem. Misunderstood that the "give […] me a bit more beauty rest" magnet meant "do not disturb my room" and the cleaning staff changed my sheets and towels--EVEN THOUGH I did not place the "please replace my linens" card on the bed (as it instructed me to do if I wanted a change of sheets) and I did not leave any towels on the floor (but on the racks as another card asked me to do if I did not want THOSE changed). Was a bit irritated that, though I followed the directions on the cards in my room, the staff replaced all my linens because I didn't have the "more beauty rest, please" magnet on my door. Mentioned my issue to receptionist and she said that the magnet is supposed to be used as the "do not disturb" signal. (Well, then what the heck are the cards for?? And what if I want my trash emptied but not my linens changed--what then?) Read more

"Sweeeeeet hotel!"
I agree with every positive statement made about the Marcel. It's a standout, at least among the 8-10 NYC hotels I've booked over the years. It's the most chic AND most friendly. Nice combo!
"The Marcel at Gramercy- what a gem!"
This hotel impressed me. It was clean, comfortable, nice and cool for the hot summer days and the service was great.Yes the rooms are small, but it doesn't matter because we were out in the city all day and only stayed in the room to shower and sleep! Rooms in NYC are all small so it wasn't a surprise. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends […] who are planning to stay in a nice, cute hotel while they are staying in NYC. Read more
"The Marcel at Gramercy - a good night's sleep"
The rooms are clean, great location and the staff friendly. It looked like they had new mattresses (I always check for bed bugs when staying anywhere and there were none) and the room was very clean. The first time I stayed there was street noise from Halloween festivities, second time I stayed they offered me an inside room and it was much quieter. […] Great place to stay, I look forward to going back! Read more
