Just don't do it. I liked the location but this place is a dump. When I checked in (efficient and friendly) I asked for a quiet room. As soon as I reached my floor I could hear the people having some sort of party - turns out this was next door to the room I was given (this at 4:00 PM). So I went down and was quickly given another room. This room had […] no closet or anywhere to hang up clothes, as strange sitting room with nothing to look at except a dresser. The bed was old and creaky and the bedroom very small, the bed just barely fit. Then it got worse. I came back from dinner and kept hearing sounds, when I turned the window unit A/C -heater I could hear all the pidgeons roosting. There were those filthy birds all over the place and droppings not only all over outside but some inside the window. This is how Legionaire's disease came to be. Disgusting. The place is so run-down that when someone walked down the hall, not only could I hear everything the tank lid on the toilet rattled as they walked past. This is just a lousy, tired old place and should be avoided. I am fine with older properties but this place is below acceptable standards. Read more

A beautiful hotel with so many historic touches. My son enjoyed riding the old elevator complete with sliding metal barrier. The room itself was small but with comfortable beds. The heater was loud! There was no way we could sleep with it on, so we were glad we brought an extra sleeping bag for warmth. This hotel is a very mixed bag. It is beautifully renovated and really gives the feeling of the original hotel. It's conveniently locagted downtown in Sonora and the rates were very reasonable. But there were few amenities. The room was very cold and while the heater worked, it was too loud to leave on while trying to sleep. I stayed there twice. The first room I had didn't have a place to hang clothes and had a window unit heater. It was loud when trying to keep the room warm. The second room I stayed in had the same situation with the heater. But, that said, it was OK for my visit as I was only in the room(s) to sleep.

I really like the historic feel of the Sonora Inn. You feel like your stepping back in time but with modern conveniences. The bathroom is tiny. There weren't enough electrical outlets in the room and none in the bathroom. The TV could have been mounted on the wall making it easier to see while lying in bed. Great little spot in Senora. An old building with character and charm. Excellent shower and pillows. It was just lacking counter space, mirrors (none in the room, only small one in bathroom!) and a trash can (again, only a small one in the bathroom!) Otherwise though, I recommend this hotel! The only negatives were that the hotel staff did not have confirmation of my reservation through Expedia when I arrived, and had to spend some time confirming the reservtion. Either Expedia or the hotel dropped the ball. Also, the elevator was inoperable and my room was on the 3rd floor.

You get what you paid for. There is a set of approximately 20 rooms across the street from the older and historic main hotel. I was disappointed to be put here vs the more homely main hotel. This part of California is underrated. There is tons of charm and things to do. We stayed in the original hotel in a historic king room. The bed was very nice. The Sonora Inn was a great value for a place to stay on a very quick stay-cation.

We like to stay in old hotels to experience their history. This is an older property and, according to other comments, I expected it to be just a bit more shabby. However we were very pleased with the room. The furnishings have been updated and everything was clean. Our room was on the second floor overlooking a busy street so I was expecting a lot […] of that noise. I found by turning on the air conditioning equipment (fan only since it wasn't all that hot) I did not hear anything outside of the room. We would have liked a table or desk top for writing but that was the only furniture that was missing. There were two big problems; one hard to fix and one that should be fixed. The "hard to fix" was the old plumbing. When taking a shower, if others were doing the same, the temperature did fluctuate quite a bit. Of course to fix that problem, they'll have to gut the building and replace all pipes. If that happens, I couldn't afford the place anyway and they would lose a lot of charm. So I just went with the flow, so to speak, and enjoyed the history. The other problem was the terrible breakfast. It is about as cheap as one can get. The first day, while slowly working my way through the cheap food, I watched the other guests. None were pleased with what they found. After that, we went out and just bought our breakfast at a local restaurant. So you might plan that cost into the price of the room if you are considering this hotel. Read more

The absolute rudest, dirtiest and the worst hotel ever!!! The man behind the counter spent 5 minutes on the phone complaining that fhis co-worker was yelling at him for no coming in fast enough when he was called in to work. This as we were trying to check in. Then we get to our room, across the street, not at all part of the "historic" hotel that we […] had rented, to find a bare dirty toilet running HOT smelly room. With no towels, wash clothes, and the worst yet, the coffeegrounds that were brewed whenever were still in the coffee maker. The next day we left very early to head up to Yosemite and enjoy our day, we did, in fact we had the best day, until we returned that night. We got back at 9:20 to a room that we left exactly the same way. No housekeeping at all! Save your money, spend the extra few dollars and stay somewhere else. To top this stay off as I was checking out and discussing this with the ladyguy at the front desk, I was offered a 20 refund and as this happened a hotels.com fax came in and she showed it to me and said, "I wish they would all stop coming." The hotel was fine, but is really a motel, rather than a hotel, if you stay in the annex in the parking lot. Our room coffee pot was not cleaned from the prior guest's use and when I tried to use it, spewed water all over. The motel management dealt with the issue promptly.
