"Gold Country Gem"
Our room was clean. The hotel for it's age was kept in very good condition. The hotel was quiet and the employees were very friendly and accomodating. We had dinner at the Italian restaurant next to the hotel. The food and service at the restaurant were excellent. Although it did take awhile for the food to get to everyone's table including ours.

"nice place"
Sonora Inn is a historic building, the former Victoria Hotel from the 1800s, more than 100 years old. The room was comfortable and the air conditioner was essential in early August warm weather. Our room had frosted over windows and so no view, but I think that we might have gotten the last room. There is a nice little swimming pool on the second floor. Breakfast was OK though not fancy (no eggs or meat). Check-in is 2 or 3 pm and checkout is 11:00 am, but probably you can arrive earlier and stay later if you ask. The staff were friendly and helpful. Sonora and nearby Columbia are great places to visit. There is excellent local theater. We saw Music Man in Columbia and it was superb.

"Sonora speaks to the tourists"
We were going to a concert in Murphys, CA and ended up staying in Sonora. The motel is older, but with upgrades. The room was quite small, but clean. The A/C unit was accessible only by standing on a chair. It was an older unit and rattled a lot. The hotel is "L" shaped and sits at a busy intersection. It is within walking distance of the main drag (bars, antique stores, restaurants, etc).

"Enjoyable trip to the Mother Lode"
We liked this hotel because of the friendly, helpful, smiling staff and the central location. However there are problems that will keep us from going back. The room was on a busy corner so the traffic was steady except from 1 am to 5 am. The continental breakfast was just ok. The bed was comfortable but the room was very small. The air conditioning did not work and was noisy. The pipes are old so we had to buy bottled water as the water tasted awful. The TV reception is bad but we didn't go there to watch TV! There is a nice patio on the second floor that we used a lot. The sign on the doors to this area requests that people not make noise opening and closing the doors but try as we might they still made noise. Please oil the hinges, they squeak something awful!! This is a fun area with lots of old California history like the Railtown 1897 State Park and the Columbia State Historic Park. Many old buildings and lots of beautiful streets with fun shops. We will go back soon.

"Peaceful,historical and local ambiance"
I like staying here. I like its historic design, fittings and location. It has always been a reasonable value. Several different owners have been in charge through the years. The most recent groups is best. Very kind and helpful staff add to the peace of staying in this community. The remodeled rooms are very comfortable and have kept their historic fixtures. I would like to suggest that there be a sign placed near doors that access the patio pool area asking people to close the door gently especially after 8PM when people are trying to rest and relax in their rooms. This visit i went for a walk up the back street and then back down the main street. There was a group of local talent meeting casually in a local park. They were playing gentle country tunes on violins and singing along with each other. It was an unplanned and spontaneous blessing.

"I might stay here again"
The Sonora Inn was a choice due to it's history. It is located in the downtown Old Town area so there is some traffic noise that was not pleasant in the evening and into the early morning, Fri/Sat. The room, while somewhat small, was comfortable, clean and adequate. The bathroom was mostly clean though there were a couple of hairs on the bathtub/shower wall. The shower was old/quaint with maybe 40s/50s or earlier hardware, very nice ambience, but when you turn on any cold water it all turned lukewarm, not very good adjustment. Just leave the hot on. Book rooms online and save a lot! Breakfast was mediocre, no eggs, bacon, sausage. There was an error on the receipt for the room which charged someone else's credit card for fees I had not incurred. This was fixed but I never understood what happened exactly. The employees were very friendly/courteous. The Italian restaurant attached, Christopher's, make a REAL Ceasar salad at your table and the lasagne is outstanding!!

"Old World Charm"
1920's style hotel located in the heart of the gold country in Sonora. Walking distance to everything. Entering the hotel you are taken back to a different time and place, where a level of elegance meets the wild west. The hotel lobby and old time elevator take you up to broad hallways and wide staircases that you don't see in hotels today. The room appointments are lovely and the overall feel of the hotel is like being in a time warp, where the wild west existed right outside. For those who like following in the footsteps of the famous, the likes of Grace Kelley, Clint Eastwood, Drew Barrymore and others have stayed at the hotel. Keep in mind that not all aspects of an historic hotel are better than a new one. For example water pressure was found to be very low and getting hot water one morning was a challenge for a morning shower. Still it's a rare treat to experience what it was like around 1910 to be in a luxury hotel for the area. You can still experience this today at the Sonora Inn.

"Cute."
Hotel was built over 100 years ago. The décor was simple yet grand looking. The rooms are small but comfortable and look nice. My room had a large flat screen TV in a separate sitting room with a desk. It came with a breakfast but the selection wasn't good. The surrounding business area was really run down. Glad the police station was next to the parking lot.

"Historic Hotel right in town!"
My ten year old and I stayed here and had a great time. The hotel is older so the noise was expected but light sleepers and those with small children be warned that you can hear ALL the outside traffic. The heater/AC is similarly very loud. There is an antique elevator which is fun for the kids but not much else for them to do (the rooftop pool is unheated!) so bring activities. Overall though, we enjoyed our stay and would return. The town is beautiful and the people friendly. I ♥ Sonora.

"We give this hotel a C+"
We did not complete our stay at this Hotel while our room was Ok it was facing main street and it was very nosey and several rooms had guest that were playing TV very loud and also this hotel sets on a very busy street lots cars honking horns and racing motors loud trucks etc. I call the hotel management requested a different room. The manager while nice explained they were all booked up. So rather than stay up all night with No rest & sleep we pack our bags and drove home that night. We requested a refund & or adjustment but the manager was not able to comply since we place the charge on our card. To bad but rest, sleep & comfort means more to us than completing a night stay Sorry

"All that glitters is not gold in Sonora."
This is a place I have stayed at before as look forward to returning to. There are many places to stay and visit in the area with all the bells and whistles . But, the pleasant atmosphere and charm is what brings us back. Honestly we get offers for free night stays for more update modern hotel in the area that we have declined and we have family in the area who have invited us to come and stay with them as well. If you are looking to be pampered and pawed over it is not the place to stay. If you are looking for modern updated and over the top extravagances you won't find it here either. If you are looking for a smiling face and comfortable bed and a little more than the everyday free breakfast. You find it here along with quirky old time charm.

Loved the Sonora Inn. If you want modern, not your place. If you like history, this is the place. Right on the main street of this foothill town, excellent location. "Family weekend trip."
Only a one-nighter with the family. Everything was clean and in good working order. Plenty of space to park at the neighboring motel which is owned by the same folks. Continental breakfast left much to be desired but there's a Perkos and Jebs less than 5 minutes away. The architecture of the building itself is very neat. Soft bed lovers beware, the beds are quite stiff which I loved! I'd say the wifi was about 80% reliable and comparable to your standard 4g cell speed. Overall a fun place to stay and we were not disappointed at all!

"Historic beauty but lacking in details"
Let me start by saying that we enjoyed our stay and appreciate the history that comes with staying at the Sonora Inn. It was better than most 2-star hotels. Our likes: 1) The staff were excellent. 2) The shower heads and water volume were 5-star! 3) It is located close to cute shops and restaurants. 4) Our allergies didn't act up, so it was clean. Our dislikes: 1) Our room was on the busy street. Semi-trucks stopping and accelerating woke us up several times. 2) It was freezing in the hallway! 3) Our room "heater" doubles as an air conditioner and we don't like air on our face all night. 4) The walls are thin. I didn't sleep most of the first night because the next room was blasting their tv all night. My husband was able to hear the dialogue so clearly that he identified the exact movie. 5) There wasn't protein in the breakfast, except for milk for cereal, which I can't eat. (There were plenty of carbs and coffee.)

"VERY nice for a "historic" hotel"
Only two negatives: 1) Situated at a busy intersection, lots of outside traffic noise in my "along the street" room, especially early morning work days. Try to get an "inside" room. And 2) I could hear the TV (affixed to our shared wall?) from my neighbor's room; I'm glad they turned it off at 10:00pm.

"Historic inn in historic town"
This is an historic hotel, so the bathroom is not expansive. However, the decor, with crown molding and historic detail, is well maintained and attractive. The hotel staff was excellent, providing information and assistance as needed. They offered a nice breakfast in an attractive breakfast room. The location is in historic Sonora, amid restaurants and shops. the only drawback is that there is a lot of traffic noise because it sits on the corner of a busy intersection. Delivery trucks seem to run early morning hours and may disrupt sleep. We ran the fan on the air unit to cover some of the noise, but may be problematic for light sleepers.
