"The Inns of Sonora (two blocks south) is better"
Hotel is very cold. The pool is not open in November and no hot tub. The Inns of Sonora (two blocks south) is a better optionGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice for such an old establishment"
I really like the historic feel of the Sonora Inn. You feel like your stepping back in time but with modern conveniences. The bathroom is tiny. There weren't enough electrical outlets in the room and none in the bathroom. The TV could have been mounted on the wall making it easier to see while lying in bed. I opened one of the windows and a cloud of […] dust wafted into the room, could have done with out that part. Our room faced main street so the road noise was little more than I cared for. Otherwise the place was very clean, the bed was super comfortable and the staff was friendly. Again, I really enjoyed the historic feel of the inn. The decor, the architecture and just knowing the history of the area. The Sonora Inn was once a place where big stars stayed when shooting western movies many years ago. My wife and I went and had drinks at The Office just across the street and had a great time with very friendly people. I will stay here again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"charming little inn"
Great little spot in Senora. An old building with character and charm. Excellent shower and pillows. It was just lacking counter space, mirrors (none in the room, only small one in bathroom!) and a trash can (again, only a small one in the bathroom!) Otherwise though, I recommend this hotel! Enjoyed my stay there and will stay again...Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good value hotel."
The only negatives were that the hotel staff did not have confirmation of my reservation through Expedia when I arrived, and had to spend some time confirming the reservtion. Either Expedia or the hotel dropped the ball. Also, the elevator was inoperable and my room was on the 3rd floor.Genuine Expedia guest review

"dark and unfriendly"
The woman at the reception was not really friendly. We found us not welcome at this place. The room did not have daylight. We had dark windows and could here the pigons doing their party out at the window.Genuine Expedia guest review
THE ROOM WAS VERY SMALL AND NO CLOSET SPACE, NO IN ROOM IRON, 10 MIN TO GET HOT WATER TO SHOWER. PROBABLY WON'T RETURN.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"close to area of family wedding"
Was expecting to stay in main building but was put in adjoining Motel type biuilding accross the street which needs to be dressed up.The build is very steril and looks like a low rate motel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"small cramped room,,new beds and great sheets"
This OLD hotel was trying a comeback,,,however the small rooms and no table to put my stuff,,was too much for me...I slept like a baby on the nice beads and sheets...The lobby needs an update. and if there is not update on cable, it needs to be stated before reservations are made. The price was expensive for this type of room,,but now all the hotels […] have raised the rates, so I guess the price was ok.Also the elevator did not work, and as the cable needs to be stated before reservations are made. "A Little Run Down"
This hotel has seen better days. The exterior appearance and the decor need some maintenance. The breakfast room is kind of depressing. Decent value, though, and it couldn't be more central in Sonora.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ok for one night before or after Yosemite."
Motel units were a bit noisy, but a friendly and interesting town. Ok for an overnight stop.Genuine Expedia guest review
Nice location just off the main thourofare. Lots was in walking distance.Genuine Expedia guest review
The room was decent, but the a/c was very old and noisy. They hadn't turned it on before we got there so the room was boiling and it took several hours to cool down to a reasonable comfort level. The hotel proper is very nice, an old Spanish inn. I was a bit disconcerted to find that our room was across the street, in a strip of rooms obviously added […] on much later. "Not worth for the Money"
The hotel has old furnitures, cramped parking, mediocre design, located in busy area, not enough lot for a inn outside of major california cities. Definately not worth for the money charged.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good location, disappointing comfort"
You get what you paid for. There is a set of approximately 20 rooms across the street from the older and historic main hotel. I was disappointed to be put here vs the more homely main hotel. Beds were rock hard, no cups in room. This is a step up (at least the remote part of hotel we stayed in) from a motel 6. Fine for one night but I wouldn't stay […] here longer than that. Location, however, is great if you want to walk up and don't the old town which was ok (not great as many places we're closed on a Sunday). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It was and older place which was expected. But the showers were old small and needed to be cleaned. The sheets were thin and stained. YUK!!! There was nothing close and everything else was booked or I would have left. I won't be back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very good value for a day stay in the foothills"
This part of California is underrated. There is tons of charm and things to do. We stayed in the original hotel in a historic king room. The bed was very nice. The Sonora Inn was a great value for a place to stay on a very quick stay-cation.Genuine Expedia guest review
"The Bates Motel revisited"
the pictures of the hotel lobby were very decieving as it looked great then the hotel was behind it. It had very old furniture that was worn out terrible bathroom with a very small shower and the vinyle flooring was peeling off the floor. the carpet was very dirty.... very very diappointingGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great historic setting with some minor problems"
We like to stay in old hotels to experience their history. This is an older property and, according to other comments, I expected it to be just a bit more shabby. However we were very pleased with the room. The furnishings have been updated and everything was clean. Our room was on the second floor overlooking a busy street so I was expecting a lot […] of that noise. I found by turning on the air conditioning equipment (fan only since it wasn't all that hot) I did not hear anything outside of the room. We would have liked a table or desk top for writing but that was the only furniture that was missing. There were two big problems; one hard to fix and one that should be fixed. The "hard to fix" was the old plumbing. When taking a shower, if others were doing the same, the temperature did fluctuate quite a bit. Of course to fix that problem, they'll have to gut the building and replace all pipes. If that happens, I couldn't afford the place anyway and they would lose a lot of charm. So I just went with the flow, so to speak, and enjoyed the history. The other problem was the terrible breakfast. It is about as cheap as one can get. The first day, while slowly working my way through the cheap food, I watched the other guests. None were pleased with what they found. After that, we went out and just bought our breakfast at a local restaurant. So you might plan that cost into the price of the room if you are considering this hotel. cool old hotel right in the middle downtown. great shopping and dining....angela , who was at the front desk ,was amazing. thanx for all your help!!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good hotel. Efficient staff and average complimentary breakfast. A great hotel as it is just outside of Yosemitte (about an hour to an hour and a half drive) and in the heart of downtown Sonora. There is not much to do in Sonora itself (two bars at most and the shops close at 5pm). However, Diamondback Grill is a must! Delicious food and choices of […] wine! Great value room for the proximity to Yosemite and much more in the great oudoors. Christopher's was great as was the Mexican restaurant right next door. Quaint in downtown Sonora.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Will stay there again"
The room and bed were clean and comfortable. The pool and the people who work there are all very nice. The only problem was the wi-fi in our room. It kept cutting out! The only place it worked correctly was in the bathroom! Not sure why.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Conditioner is too noisy to run it at night. Bathroom needs a renovation. WF works only in lobby. On the good side: Staff is very friendlyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Do not be fooled..."
The absolute rudest, dirtiest and the worst hotel ever!!! The man behind the counter spent 5 minutes on the phone complaining that fhis co-worker was yelling at him for no coming in fast enough when he was called in to work. This as we were trying to check in. Then we get to our room, across the street, not at all part of the "historic" hotel that we […] had rented, to find a bare dirty toilet running HOT smelly room. With no towels, wash clothes, and the worst yet, the coffeegrounds that were brewed whenever were still in the coffee maker. The next day we left very early to head up to Yosemite and enjoy our day, we did, in fact we had the best day, until we returned that night. We got back at 9:20 to a room that we left exactly the same way. No housekeeping at all! Save your money, spend the extra few dollars and stay somewhere else. To top this stay off as I was checking out and discussing this with the ladyguy at the front desk, I was offered a 20 refund and as this happened a hotels.com fax came in and she showed it to me and said, "I wish they would all stop coming." That was the attitude of every person there, not one person wanted the business nor did the appericate it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Spacious rooms in the detached part of the hotel, however they have only finished renovating the main building rooms. We stayed in the detached portion across the one lane street. The hotel was fine, but is really a motel, rather than a hotel, if you stay in the annex in the parking lot. Our room coffee pot was not cleaned from the prior guest's use and when I tried to use it, spewed water all over. The motel management dealt with the issue promptly.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel in historic downtown Sonora!"
We stayed just one night on a quick 2-day trip from Southern Cal. We had a standard king-size non-smoking room in the separate building across the street from the main hotel. We were very pleased with the cleanliness and comfort of the room. We got a good night's sleep, and enjoyed the complimentary breakfast in the morning--very nice variety there, […] we thought. I wasn't able to connect to the Internet on their free wi-fi network, but I think it was likely a problem with my computer, not their network (I'd been having issues with it before). I didn't have time to ask for assistance. Anyway, this was the lowest priced room in town for that night, and we thought we got a real deal! There was some work going on at the front of the main hotel--a few plywood boards and so forth, so it didn't look too appealing, but don't let that put you off. It's a fine place to stay! "Halfway to Yosemite"
The Sonora Inn was a good pit-stop before the final leg of our journey to Yosemite. We didn't get to Sonora until 3:30am and were checked in quickly with no fuss. Our room was comfortable and clean. "Needs a facelift"
This is a tale of two buildings - a quaint and historic hotel in the heart of California's gold rush country...and a run down add-on motel in the adjacent parking lot. Our room was in the motel part and was in serious need of a facelift. I don't expect 5-star quality at this price point, but after checking in in the lobby of the historic building, the […] motel room was a complete let down. If you want to stay in downtown Sonora, this is OK. Just temper your expectations or get a commitment for a room in the historic building. There are other motel-type establishments on the same street which look better from the outside. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not what we expected"
I booked our room nearly 2 months in advance... and since the hotel was pet-friendly, we took our little chiweenie dog. I was told there were specific "pet rooms" -- but we'd never know it was a pet room because these rooms were kept just as clean as all the others (since they occasionally had to be used by non-pet owners). Well... the carpet was filthy […] -- stained and just plain icky -- the bathroom was marginal with a toilet that ran intermittently 24/7, and the hair dryer didn't work (all of which I reported to the front desk but none of which were fixed during our stay). Our only saving grace was, we didn't spend much time at the hotel: we used it basically for sleeping purposes. We were hugely disappointed, and found the front desk personnel to be indifferent and at some points flat-out rude. Next time we head to that area of the state for a getaway, we will NOT stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Pet friendly, but will not clean room if pet is there (even if in carrier). When we left for the day and took the dog with us, the cleaning lady did place towels on bed, but room wasn't totally cleaned. "location great-hotel not so great"
Hotel was in a great location in the old town area. Lots of shopping and restaurants. Main hotel was remodeled. Unfortunately, we were in the overflow motel area in the back!! it was built in the 1960's and it doesn't appear to have been updated since then. The floors were old and dingy-I kept my flip-flops on. The shower was disgusting!! The bed luckily […] was very comfortable and the room had microwave and refrig. A lamp and hair dryer didn't work. They fixed the lamp. I used the hair dryer in a room the maid was cleaning in the am. Speaking of the maid- the first maid didn't make the bed! She put the blanket and bedspread over the bed and through the sheets how they landed. When I advised the maid and front desk no one seemed to care. The maid's response was " We don't change the sheets during the stay." I didn't want them changed-I wanted the bed made correctly. The pool was small and a welcome relief with over 100 degree temps. Also parking is not always available. We went out at night and had to park down the street instead of in front of our room. I was quite disappointed that we pay for a room and they couldn't provide parking for 1 car. I would stay again but in the main hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Room was clean, Service was great. When we booked we did not know that the Mother Lode Fair was that weekend. Outside was quite noisy during the night but that couldn't be helped. Thank you for a nice stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A place in Sonora, CA."
It is an older holtel and the outer rooms only have stairs to get to second floor. Very small bathrooms. For the price I expected a bit nicer. Not the worst either.Genuine Expedia guest review
Staff were friendly & courteous. When we checked in we were given a discount coupon for some of the local eateries. Room was clean, quiet, & mattresses were very comfortable. Pictures on walls of motel in early 1900's were interesting to look at for how fashion was in that time. We enjoyed our stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Sonora Inn is a fine hotel IF you are staying at the Inn. But, no, i was placed in the annex which is an old not charming motel of which there appear others with more appeal. "Not as advertised"
The ad/picture online shows this great spanish-style building. When I checked in I found out I was staying in "the back", which meant across the street in the old hotel they took over and is now part of the Sonora Inn. Service was great, breakfast was fine. "Turn of the century historic hotel"
First of all, the front desk staff were very nice and helpful, the room had a great television and the bed was very comfortable. However, the hotel is very old and desperately needs major renovation. The windows need replacing and if your room faces the traffic you will hear all of the traffic noise. The plumbing in the bathroom is very old fashion […] and it is an adventure to take a shower. The bathroom door did not lock and the plaster was coming off the walls. I suspect that the ownership has puposely put off putting any monies into the hotel for whatever reasons. There is an elevator in the hotel, however, you will want to use the stairs as the elevator will spook you out. My wife walked down two flights of stairs with luggage, in lieu of taking the elevator a second time. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Everything was very nice. I did notice that you need a little new paint in the back quadrant. And my air conditioner was great, especially with the remote control, although it made a very slight rattling sound which was moderately annoying, but not a big issue. Water pressure was adequate, although I don't shower very much.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Get the 217 - Quiet Cozy Room Steps from the Pool"
I arrived for a 2 night stay in mid June. It was very hot in Sonora so thankfully every room has air conditioning. I plugged in my air conditioner and slept like a hibernating Momma Bear for 2 nights straight. Also a couple of other plusses - Room 217 was located just steps from the cute balcony pool where I luxuriously swam alone in the mornings and […] and the patio balcony provided a beautiful quiet place to think and write. It was a lovely quiet stay that was much needed and greatly appreciated. Side note - they have just redecorated the interior of the Inn and it's very pretty, clean and cozy. "Pretty good deal!"
Staff was pretty friendly, but slightly incompetent. At first they couldn't find my reservation because the staff member only new how to check people out, not in. For only $75 after taxes and fees, this hotel was an awesome deal! It was right on the main strip in downtown Sonora. The room was clean and simple. We also got a discount card for neighboring […] restaurants :-) My only complaint was that the bed was a little uncomfortable and it was a little noisy- I could hear others' conversations in neighboring rooms clearly! Room clean and bathroom spotless. Location of air conditioner was odd. It only cooled one section of the room, your head and shoulders while sleeping.
