very quaint historic hotel, more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel. The restaurant attached to the hotel ,Christopher's, was a remarkable find for such a small town.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"I liked it but it's not for Everybody"
I liked the place, my main complaint was the on and off wireless Internet access (which is free). I’d be on line for a minute then it would drop. Very frustrating. The room was quite nicely decorated and comfortable, but it’s an old building, the floors creak and there is a pretty wide gap between the room door and the hallway. The room and bathroom […] were very clean. However, you have to make two-foot step into the bathtub to take a shower. It didn’t bother me but it definitely wouldn’t work for people with the slightest balance issues. The bathroom sink was old school, with separate faucets for hot and cold water. Like I said, it doesn’t bother me but I’m sure it would someone else. I had no problems getting hot water. It’s an old style AC unit, and is not controlled by a thermostat. It is either on or you manually shut it off. The staff was nice, there is free off street parking, and a hotel toaster breakfast. I’d stay again, but the Internet drops need to be fixed. The hotel is surprisingly nice. It's an old building but well renovated. The staff is very nice too. The problem is that all rooms overlook a busy street and there is loud traffic going all night. I couldn't sleep at all the first night, and had to cancel my stay there and move somewhere else. Oh, and the complimentary breakfast is a joke - don't even […] bother. "Decent hotel but far from Yosemite valley"
Receptionist was helpful and courteous. Breakfast was std/ok. Rooms were a bit smaller. Overall interior was decent. I planned it for my yosemite trip so it turned out to be too far (70 miles to valley).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Historic old hotel with NO amenities."
It was a hot day, 95 degrees, +/-. Don't know if the air conditioning worked because when we turned it on it shrieked so loudly it was not an option. Our room was on the 2nd floor .... sort of. We had to either schlep our luggage up a flight stairs or take the old elevator. The elevator's door opened, by pulling on the doorknob after it arrived at your […] floor, then pushing back the metal gate to enter the elevator (that's difficult to do with luggage in tow). Once we got to the 2nd floor we had to walk the length of the hallway and down another flight of stairs to the smallish room. The bathroom was OLD ... just a toilet, sink and bath/shower. That's it. There was no vanity to set your toiletries on. No refrigerator. The ladies at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. We asked for a wakeup call but the volume was almost imperceptible. It would not have awakened you if you were using the phone for your pillow. Regardless, it was hard to stay asleep for long because of the noise from the cars, motorcycles, occasional emergency vehicles, etc., on the street below was so loud. Parking is behind the hotel at the Rodeway Inn. Forget the continental breakfast. Hey, the room was clean. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location and close to everything1"
Enjoyed our stay at the Historic Sonora Inn. The lobby has a lovely decor, our suite large and comfortable and the bed was heaven to sleep in. Very clean and well-maintained building with the exception of the carpets in the salon and bedroom which had numerous spots and cigarette burns in the carpet. That definitely should be replaced. The A/C is a […] bit noisy when on and difficult to hear the TV if the A/C is on. Also, some maintenance is required to the rooms -shutters in the front room did not have the stick to open or close them properly and the coffee machine in the room was not operable. The elevator is historic -kind of creepy and jerks a bit but it does take you back in time. Pool area nice. Breakfast which is included with your stay is not satisfactory. They should provide a nice full breakfast at Christopher's right next door for their guests-that would be ideal. However, we had the best breakfast at Woods Creek Cafe-delightful!!! "Front desk staff very friendly and professional"
The front desk staff was always cheerful and helpful. The hotel was nice, but it was odd to us that we received new clean towels everyday but the bed was never made. Regardless, we would stay there again. Great location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wanted to like it but ..."
This was our second time staying here. The first time we stayed was before the renovation were we could enjoy the pool, the staff, and the historic architecture. We returned thinking the renovation would make everything good. Upon arriving we saw a good senior staff member who was helpful on our last visit, Unfortunately she went off duty as we arrived. […] Our room, the Historic Queen, was clean but very small. Worst thing was its windows were painted over so the room was like a box. Behind the painted window I could hear a flock of pigeons cooing and their noise went into the night and began again before dawn. It did not feel good. Wish I had complained. I do not think our room should be available to any guest. This hotel has potential but it may be that the management want it to remain hobbled. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Better hotels are available in the area."
Historic hotel located on a somewhat busy street as it is the main road through the area. The staff is not properly trained and have no concept of professional or courteous service. The room is overpriced for what you get, would not repeat.Genuine Expedia guest review

""A little piece of history...""
Very nice experience...to stay in a historic hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The only negative is the road noise (which dies down after 11pm).Genuine Expedia guest review
Just don't do it. I liked the location but this place is a dump. When I checked in (efficient and friendly) I asked for a quiet room. As soon as I reached my floor I could hear the people having some sort of party - turns out this was next door to the room I was given (this at 4:00 PM). So I went down and was quickly given another room. This room had […] no closet or anywhere to hang up clothes, as strange sitting room with nothing to look at except a dresser. The bed was old and creaky and the bedroom very small, the bed just barely fit. Then it got worse. I came back from dinner and kept hearing sounds, when I turned the window unit A/C -heater I could hear all the pidgeons roosting. There were those filthy birds all over the place and droppings not only all over outside but some inside the window. This is how Legionaire's disease came to be. Disgusting. The place is so run-down that when someone walked down the hall, not only could I hear everything the tank lid on the toilet rattled as they walked past. This is just a lousy, tired old place and should be avoided. I am fine with older properties but this place is below acceptable standards. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"At downtown Sonora, near Celtic Faire location"
Great location at downtown Sonora. Many restaurants and shops nearby. The room was renovated, small, quite quaint and cute. Nice old pattern tiles in the bathroom. Must go up and down stairs to get to the room. One old lift with accordion metal door, cute but impractical. Thin wall, could hear next room TV. Noisy wall heater/air condition unit. Very […] basic continental breakfast. Parking at the back, sharing a motel parking lot, filled up quickly. Walking distance to Celtic Faire, the biggest one I have ever seen, with many people dressed in costumes, great music, dances, jousting etc. The adjacent Christopher's restaurant offers excellent food, nice music and great service. "Close enough to Dodge Ridge, but w/ some nightlife"
I thought it was a charming hotel, but could use some better insulation between the walls to help cut down on noise from adjacent rooms. The breakfast they offer is terrible and is one of the main complaints from the reviews I have read. I'm not sure why they don't use their attached Italian restaurant to function as a diner/coffee shop in the morning. "historic older hotel"
Very comfortable beds and pillows. really nice bathroom. convenient to restaurans and local wine bars . The elevator is pretty funky but it works. friendly staffGenuine Hotels.com guest review
A beautiful hotel with so many historic touches. My son enjoyed riding the old elevator complete with sliding metal barrier. The room itself was small but with comfortable beds. The heater was loud! There was no way we could sleep with it on, so we were glad we brought an extra sleeping bag for warmth. The walls are thin so you can distinctly hear the […] TV blaring in the next room as well as trucks racing by at night. The service was fair and the breakfast decent with toaster waffles and various breads. We would stay there again, but we'll ask for a room that faces the main street instead of Hwy 49. the hotel wasn't that bad right in the middle of town i really like that about it. now the bad is the fact that it was cold when we stayed there and the window heater they have installed in the rooms don't work very good keeping the room warm and comfortable for you while you in the room and when i ask the front desk all i get from the girl working […] is they work great maybe she should try sleeping in the one of the rooms and see how cold it really gets for her self. not to mention more blankets on the bed in winter time would be a great suggestion for the guess to try and stay warm though the cold nights . This hotel is a very mixed bag. It is beautifully renovated and really gives the feeling of the original hotel. It's conveniently locagted downtown in Sonora and the rates were very reasonable. But there were few amenities. The room was very cold and while the heater worked, it was too loud to leave on while trying to sleep. And there was no extra blanket. "Sonora Inn (California)"
I stayed there twice. The first room I had didn't have a place to hang clothes and had a window unit heater. It was loud when trying to keep the room warm. The second room I stayed in had the same situation with the heater. But, that said, it was OK for my visit as I was only in the room(s) to sleep.Genuine Expedia guest review
Only thing that was inconvenient was no elect plug for curling iron in bathroom or by a mirror, otherwise was great experience, staff was very hospitableGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice for such an old establishment"
I really like the historic feel of the Sonora Inn. You feel like your stepping back in time but with modern conveniences. The bathroom is tiny. There weren't enough electrical outlets in the room and none in the bathroom. The TV could have been mounted on the wall making it easier to see while lying in bed. I opened one of the windows and a cloud of […] dust wafted into the room, could have done with out that part. Our room faced main street so the road noise was little more than I cared for. Otherwise the place was very clean, the bed was super comfortable and the staff was friendly. Again, I really enjoyed the historic feel of the inn. The decor, the architecture and just knowing the history of the area. The Sonora Inn was once a place where big stars stayed when shooting western movies many years ago. My wife and I went and had drinks at The Office just across the street and had a great time with very friendly people. I will stay here again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"charming little inn"
Great little spot in Senora. An old building with character and charm. Excellent shower and pillows. It was just lacking counter space, mirrors (none in the room, only small one in bathroom!) and a trash can (again, only a small one in the bathroom!) Otherwise though, I recommend this hotel! "Good value hotel."
The only negatives were that the hotel staff did not have confirmation of my reservation through Expedia when I arrived, and had to spend some time confirming the reservtion. This OLD hotel was trying a comeback,,,however the small rooms and no table to put my stuff,,was too much for me...I slept like a baby on the nice beads and sheets...The lobby needs an update. and if there is not update on cable, it needs to be stated before reservations are made. The room was decent, but the a/c was very old and noisy. They hadn't turned it on before we got there so the room was boiling and it took several hours to cool down to a reasonable comfort level. "Not worth for the Money"

"Good location, disappointing comfort"
You get what you paid for. There is a set of approximately 20 rooms across the street from the older and historic main hotel. I was disappointed to be put here vs the more homely main hotel. Beds were rock hard, no cups in room. This is a step up (at least the remote part of hotel we stayed in) from a motel 6. Fine for one night but I wouldn't stay […] here longer than that. Location, however, is great if you want to walk up and don't the old town which was ok (not great as many places we're closed on a Sunday). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Very good value for a day stay in the foothills"

"The Bates Motel revisited"

"Great historic setting with some minor problems"
We like to stay in old hotels to experience their history. This is an older property and, according to other comments, I expected it to be just a bit more shabby. However we were very pleased with the room. The furnishings have been updated and everything was clean. Our room was on the second floor overlooking a busy street so I was expecting a lot […] of that noise. I found by turning on the air conditioning equipment (fan only since it wasn't all that hot) I did not hear anything outside of the room. We would have liked a table or desk top for writing but that was the only furniture that was missing. There were two big problems; one hard to fix and one that should be fixed. The "hard to fix" was the old plumbing. When taking a shower, if others were doing the same, the temperature did fluctuate quite a bit. Of course to fix that problem, they'll have to gut the building and replace all pipes. If that happens, I couldn't afford the place anyway and they would lose a lot of charm. So I just went with the flow, so to speak, and enjoyed the history. The other problem was the terrible breakfast. It is about as cheap as one can get. The first day, while slowly working my way through the cheap food, I watched the other guests. None were pleased with what they found. After that, we went out and just bought our breakfast at a local restaurant. So you might plan that cost into the price of the room if you are considering this hotel.
