"Stay at Sonora Inn"
I stayed at Sonora in for two nights shortly before Christmas. The place has an odd location for parking (across the street behind the place in a lot shared with another motel) but is a very good hotel. The breakfast could have had more choices but the place is comfortable and very well decorated.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Charming in the heart of Sonora"
We parked on the street & went in to ask about parking. It's behind the hotel. We were checked in at 11:00 AM as in the off season rooms were ready. We were upgraded at no extra cost. Ask for a room away from Hwy 49 as it's a bit noisy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Rooms were tiny. The hallways were ice cold. But the tiny rooms heated up quickly. Quaint, old hotel but not too cozy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice older hotel"
While the hotel is old, that is part of it's charm. However I was quite disappointed in two Items: 1. California is in a major drought and it was 15 minutes to get hot water, once there it came and went but was of tolerable temperature. Once reported to the hotel it was just said that it is a historic hotel and they can't change the pipes. This is a […] cop out, the fact is, although not "proven" the hotel uses older "on demand" water heaters and they are not efficient. 2. The wireless internet was horrible in my room, had signal but dropped constantly. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Perfect for parade day"
Stayed two nites for the Christmas parade, perfect location, watched from one of the hallway balconies! Easy walk to all of downtown shops and food. Great staff, nice renovation last year, kept the historical feel. Breakfast was basic but adequate. Will stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quaint place for the holidays!"
Comfort & hospitality of the hotel was great! Very clean rooms, reasonable rates. The Italian restaurant attached was fantastic. So festive with the holiday lights & all merchants were very nice!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"recently remodel hotel"
the hotel was clean, newly remodel but with a stylish charm........staff really friendly....very low price....I was really satisfied with my stayGenuine Expedia guest review
We stayed here for one night mid week. The rooms were perfect for a one night stay, extremely comfortable bed, good selection of tv channels. Cute mix of old vintage style with updated amenities like a coffee pot. The breakfast was extremely average continental. Could improve breakfast with some fresh fruit items.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cool Historical Hotel"
We really loved this place! Loved having the feel of old Sonora history. Be aware that it is vintage plumbing and loud heating AC unit. We even loved the antique elevator. Will stay here again next time we visit gold country. Also, the price was very reasonable.Genuine Expedia guest review
Enjoyed our stay at the Sonora Inn. Staff was very accommodating in this interesting historic hotel. But street facing rooms can be noisy until late in the night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Would stay there again"
With the exception of a slow drain in the bath we loved everything. It is an old building but for me that is a plus since it has been so well maintained. The restaurant is a great place to have breakfast. Every staff member seemed to care about their jobs and the guest's experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I enjoy old historic places and the Sonora Inn fit the bill. The Staff was outstanding and the attention to detail was great. The mix of Old and New is well done. Sonora is an old historic town and to me what better place to stay than an old historic hotel right in the middle of everything. "Funky Old Small Great Value"
Small room, tiny bathroom, clean, nice staff, not updated but flat screen. On a busy street but it was OKGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A night in Sonora"
The Sonora Inn is a very nice place, well kept, clean, and nicely decorated. The room was great. The bed was comfortable. Lots of hot water. Towels were standard issue white, a bit stiff from the laundry. Could use a little fabric softener. Shower head had a removable spray handle which was nice. Only small problem is there is no counter space to set […] your stuff and no stopper for the sink drain. Faucets are the old style with seperate spouts for the hot and the cold water with their own knobs. Not really a problem but not the norm we are used to today. The old elevator works fine and is a nice reminder of how it used to be. The stairs are nice and wide and carpeted if you don't want to take the elevator. The continental breakfast was adequate with fresh apples and oranges, orange juice, coffee, tea, cereal, toast, muffins, pastry, boiled eggs and in a nice roomy room with a TV for the morning news. My room was on the second floor and there weren't many other guests so it was quiet except for the road noise. If you are a lite sleeper or plan on sleeping late in the morning the road noise could be a problem as the inn is right at the intersection of two main roads and sets right next to the roads. Bring ear plugs and you will be ok though. There is a second flloor patio and swimming pool. The lobby is nicely appointed and there is a good restaurant right next door that only serves dinner I believe. There are other places to eat within easy walking distance. "Great Location, right in Town"
Nice Hotel staff. It was a little noisy from the traffic on S. Washington St.Genuine Expedia guest review
From Seattle, we flew to Sacramento, rented a car and drove to Sonora. We loved the area! Visited Yosemite National Park for two days. The park is beautiful, wished we had more time. The Ahwanee Lodge was gorgeous. Only bad thing was the fire, it was smokey in the morning at our hotel, but once in Yosemite weather was clear. We want to come back stay […] in the same room only earlier in the season cause the waterfall was dry, and the 104 degree temperature was a bit high. We went boating on the Delta with family one day- suggestion put your cell phone in a waterproof bag mine got wet and died, my own fault. One day we went to Big Trees National Park to see the Giant Sequoias - Beautiful. On our last night we went to a family wedding at the Sonora Inn what a beautiful site, rustic, cowboy wedding. We had so much fun, we did not want to leave. We will definitely come back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Old but very charming"
We stayed at the Sonora Inn for 2 nights while on a family vacation to Yosemite National Park. It is a little further from Yosemite than we expected, about an hour, but it was the only hotel available. When we arrived the hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. It is a very old hotel but they have remodeled some. The room was small but we didn't […] mind because we weren't spending a lot of time there anyway. I expected small rooms because the hotel is so old and back then people didn't expect everything to be bigger back then, it was a place to sleep, but it was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was small but again as to be expected. The fixtures were all original in the bathroom, from the 1920's and I loved that. There are a lot of restaurants within a few minutes walk, but they all close between 8:30-9pm so eat early. There is a continental breakfast, pastries, cereal, toast & fruit that's open til 9am. The charm was amazing from the old elevators and doors to the many stories posted on the walls about the old hotel in its heyday. I would recommend staying here if you appreciate architecture, history & simplicity. If you are looking for a large luxurious mini apartment hotel room this isn't for you. It suited our needs and was clean. Two thumbs up!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We loved this hotel, it was very old (built 1892) and quaint, roses on carpet, antique furniture, the elevator was right from the turn of the century down to the old roses wallpaper, so cool. Don't stay here if you are afraid of ghosts, because it is haunted. I don't think I would stay there alone but it was fun to be with my family in a haunted hotel. […] We heard an unexplained bang on the AC and the familiar chill when in haunted surroundings... It doesn't scare us but if it scares you stay away. The only drawback is the parking is across the street and if you are lugging baby items and preschool toys to the 2nd floor, even with the elevator, it was quite a trek. But we loved it and would highly recommend it. The staff was wonderful, and very helpful. Oh the pool is on the second floor and that and the surrounding patio with the view was wonderful. We really recommend it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenient, quaint, confortable"
This is the renovated original hotel from the gold rush days. It has been modernized, but still retains the feel of an old-fashioned hotel in some ways. The staff were nice enough, the bed was good, the room was clean and nice. It is in the center of the tourist section of town. I would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A piece of history"
This was a great choice. It's in a nice pleasant neighborhood, and the building itself is historic and elegant. It has an antique elevator, something very hard to find in california. Our stay in the room itself was pleasant except that the controls for the A/C were a bit high and not entirely intuitive, so we ended up having a silent war, turning it […] off and on during the night. When it was on, it worked quite well, which was nice considering that the weather was quite hot when we were there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect location in this historic town."
From the friendly greeting as we walked through the door, to the easy exit after a wonderful continental breakfast, this was a positive experience. As we entered the room, we felt warm and comfortable. It was clean and everything worked! The photos on the walls, both inside the rooms and in the hallways were amazing. "I liked it but it's not for Everybody"
I liked the place, my main complaint was the on and off wireless Internet access (which is free). I’d be on line for a minute then it would drop. Very frustrating. The room was quite nicely decorated and comfortable, but it’s an old building, the floors creak and there is a pretty wide gap between the room door and the hallway. The room and bathroom […] were very clean. However, you have to make two-foot step into the bathtub to take a shower. It didn’t bother me but it definitely wouldn’t work for people with the slightest balance issues. The bathroom sink was old school, with separate faucets for hot and cold water. Like I said, it doesn’t bother me but I’m sure it would someone else. I had no problems getting hot water. It’s an old style AC unit, and is not controlled by a thermostat. It is either on or you manually shut it off. The staff was nice, there is free off street parking, and a hotel toaster breakfast. I’d stay again, but the Internet drops need to be fixed. The hotel is surprisingly nice. It's an old building but well renovated. The staff is very nice too. The problem is that all rooms overlook a busy street and there is loud traffic going all night. I couldn't sleep at all the first night, and had to cancel my stay there and move somewhere else. Oh, and the complimentary breakfast is a joke - don't even […] bother. "Historic old hotel with NO amenities."
It was a hot day, 95 degrees, +/-. Don't know if the air conditioning worked because when we turned it on it shrieked so loudly it was not an option. Our room was on the 2nd floor .... sort of. We had to either schlep our luggage up a flight stairs or take the old elevator. The elevator's door opened, by pulling on the doorknob after it arrived at your […] floor, then pushing back the metal gate to enter the elevator (that's difficult to do with luggage in tow). Once we got to the 2nd floor we had to walk the length of the hallway and down another flight of stairs to the smallish room. The bathroom was OLD ... just a toilet, sink and bath/shower. That's it. There was no vanity to set your toiletries on. No refrigerator. The ladies at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. We asked for a wakeup call but the volume was almost imperceptible. It would not have awakened you if you were using the phone for your pillow. Regardless, it was hard to stay asleep for long because of the noise from the cars, motorcycles, occasional emergency vehicles, etc., on the street below was so loud. Parking is behind the hotel at the Rodeway Inn. Forget the continental breakfast. Hey, the room was clean. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location and close to everything1"
Enjoyed our stay at the Historic Sonora Inn. The lobby has a lovely decor, our suite large and comfortable and the bed was heaven to sleep in. Very clean and well-maintained building with the exception of the carpets in the salon and bedroom which had numerous spots and cigarette burns in the carpet. That definitely should be replaced. The A/C is a […] bit noisy when on and difficult to hear the TV if the A/C is on. Also, some maintenance is required to the rooms -shutters in the front room did not have the stick to open or close them properly and the coffee machine in the room was not operable. The elevator is historic -kind of creepy and jerks a bit but it does take you back in time. Pool area nice. Breakfast which is included with your stay is not satisfactory. They should provide a nice full breakfast at Christopher's right next door for their guests-that would be ideal. However, we had the best breakfast at Woods Creek Cafe-delightful!!! "Wanted to like it but ..."
This was our second time staying here. The first time we stayed was before the renovation were we could enjoy the pool, the staff, and the historic architecture. We returned thinking the renovation would make everything good. Upon arriving we saw a good senior staff member who was helpful on our last visit, Unfortunately she went off duty as we arrived. […] Our room, the Historic Queen, was clean but very small. Worst thing was its windows were painted over so the room was like a box. Behind the painted window I could hear a flock of pigeons cooing and their noise went into the night and began again before dawn. It did not feel good. Wish I had complained. I do not think our room should be available to any guest. This hotel has potential but it may be that the management want it to remain hobbled. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Better hotels are available in the area."
Historic hotel located on a somewhat busy street as it is the main road through the area. The staff is not properly trained and have no concept of professional or courteous service. The room is overpriced for what you get, would not repeat.Genuine Expedia guest review

""A little piece of history...""
Very nice experience...to stay in a historic hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The only negative is the road noise (which dies down after 11pm).Genuine Expedia guest review
Just don't do it. I liked the location but this place is a dump. When I checked in (efficient and friendly) I asked for a quiet room. As soon as I reached my floor I could hear the people having some sort of party - turns out this was next door to the room I was given (this at 4:00 PM). So I went down and was quickly given another room. This room had […] no closet or anywhere to hang up clothes, as strange sitting room with nothing to look at except a dresser. The bed was old and creaky and the bedroom very small, the bed just barely fit. Then it got worse. I came back from dinner and kept hearing sounds, when I turned the window unit A/C -heater I could hear all the pidgeons roosting. There were those filthy birds all over the place and droppings not only all over outside but some inside the window. This is how Legionaire's disease came to be. Disgusting. The place is so run-down that when someone walked down the hall, not only could I hear everything the tank lid on the toilet rattled as they walked past. This is just a lousy, tired old place and should be avoided. I am fine with older properties but this place is below acceptable standards. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"At downtown Sonora, near Celtic Faire location"
Great location at downtown Sonora. Many restaurants and shops nearby. The room was renovated, small, quite quaint and cute. Nice old pattern tiles in the bathroom. Must go up and down stairs to get to the room. One old lift with accordion metal door, cute but impractical. Thin wall, could hear next room TV. Noisy wall heater/air condition unit. Very […] basic continental breakfast. Parking at the back, sharing a motel parking lot, filled up quickly. Walking distance to Celtic Faire, the biggest one I have ever seen, with many people dressed in costumes, great music, dances, jousting etc. The adjacent Christopher's restaurant offers excellent food, nice music and great service. "Close enough to Dodge Ridge, but w/ some nightlife"
I thought it was a charming hotel, but could use some better insulation between the walls to help cut down on noise from adjacent rooms.
