"Consistency. You can depend on it."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Finding a "GOOD THING" these days can get harder and harder. For this reason when you come across a 'good thing" it is priceless. One of the most recent "good things " that I have come across is the PARAMOUNT hotel in Times Square. The first thing that I leave the hotel impressed by is the professionalism and commitment that is demonstrated by the staff. Starting with the front desk where I was checked in by Catherine and continuing until the driver which I received at the hotel hands me my luggage at the airport. Catherine followed the details of my visit until the moment I checked out. The only dislike that I had which eventually i got over was the view of the alley where the boiler or some loud machine was placed. I know that from now on I will request a room that faces anywhere but there. If you are going to New York and plan on taking in Broadway there could not be a more perfect location. I love this hotel so much I find myself wanting to travel to NYC more. I cannot wait until my next visit to the PARAMOUNT which I hope will be in the next few weeks.
"Affordable Quickie in NY"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
We had a very good time and the hotel was close to work.

Very nice hotel, within walking distance to subway for access to Manhattan (take the 7 or E and you can get to grand central, times square, penn station). Just a few blocks to local restaraunts. The room was very clean, excellent staff, free shuttle to subway. Overall an excellent place to stay if your touring new york city. One note, if you are considering a "view room" save your money, the view is obstructed by a number of taller buildings (the hotel is only 7 floors). Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely stay again, especially at the rate because of the new hotel discount. If you plan to take a cab from the hotel call one yourself because the service the hotel uses charges a flat rate to specific areas and you can get a cab on your own for cheaper generally.
"Nice hotel in the theatre district"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Very nice hotel in the theatre district. Friendly and helpful staff. Basic room accomodations but very clean. Would recommend.

Round Table Room - This restaurant, named for the literary greats who were regulars at The Algonquin, commemorates the sharp-tongued crew with the painting A Vicious Circle by artist Natalie Ascencios. Located in the back of the hotel's lobby, this hotspot offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as a small pre-theater menu starting at 5 PM so you can make curtain time. Brunch is served on Sundays.
Oak Room Supper Club - Candle-style lighting and reflective, dark-wood walls give this cabaret-style supper club an intimate atmosphere. Many big-name artists, including Harry Connick, Jr. and Diana Krall, booked their first gigs at this venue. Reservations are required, so call in advance. Seating for dinner starts at 6:30 PM; show starts at 8:30 PM. Restaurant open (seasonally) Tuesday-Saturday. A Jazz brunch is offered (seasonally) on Sundays.
Blue Bar - Paneled in dark wood, this cozy bar's ambiance echoes the intimate atmosphere of the Oak Room. Choose a literary cocktail, like The Hemingway or Parker, or a dry martini. Need a nosh? Bar food is available.
Lobby lounge - Sip your cocktail and dally with company in the comfort of the Algonquin's Edwardian-style lobby. Light fare is available.
Room service - Available limited hours.
Break a sweat on the cardio equipment in the Algonquin's 24-hour fitness center. You can also head to nearby Bryant Park for outdoor fun: ride the carousel, skate on the ice rink during winter months, or play Ping-Pong in the summer.

Let the West Coast have Hollywood; Broadway’s lights are just as bright, and many screen actors come to the Great White Way to gain acting credibility. Area attractions include Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, and the Museum of Modern Art. Resplendent St. Patrick’s Cathedral takes up a block at Fifth and 50th. Once seedy, Times Square now hosts ABC, MTV, and NASDAQ.

"Quick vacation visit"
The Algonquin is a busy hotel with a small lobby - this isn't a criticism, just an observation. We were pleased with the hotel, staff, and services available.

"Dirty Room and Unfriendly Staff"
I travel to New York on business at least 20 times a year and have stayed in many different hotels. This property is by far the worst I've ever experienced. When I checked in it was clear the room had not been cleaned -- all they had done was change the bed and provided fresh towels and toiletries. It was downright filthy. The hallways are dirty and […] dingy and there are bugs throughout the property. I saw many spider webs in the halls. Throughout my stay the staff was rude and I found all the services/food in the hotel to be way overpriced compared to all other Four and Five star hotels I frequent in NY. Read more
"Algonquin- Cool, unique, but NOT quiet"
Beautiful lobby and hotel, great service, but never had so much street noise in a hotel room before, even in NYC. I was only on the 2nd floor though. I'd stay again, but request upper floor and/or not facing the main street.
"Algonquin Hotel"
A couple years ago, my daughter and I visited NYC and stayed at the Algonquin Hotel. We really enjoyed our accommodations. This summer, my husband and I returned to the same hotel, so I could share the experience with him. He enjoyed the proximity to Times Square, the theatre district, and excellent restaurants. Our room was clean and we loved having […] free Internet access and use of the gym. The restaurant downstairs is very good, too, and we were treated like royalty. Now my older daughter wants to visit NYC. It looks like I'll be coming back to the Algonquin. Read more
"Lovely people, lovely place"
Not as great service in lounge and bar but everyone else is better than best. The rooms are small but I like that. I have a terrible allergy to dust and the rooms have NO dust magnets and are the cleanest I have seen anywhere. Bathrooms a little discolored but only because of fabulous original tile etc. They are immaculate. Overpriced unless you get […] coupons or deals but they are readily available. You end up spending less anyway. Free wifi. Marriott rewards points and inexpensive places to run into for meals if you want. I hope I never have to stay anywhere else. Fab hotel! Read more

"Love the Legendary Algonquin"
This hotel lives up to its legendary past. The rooms are extremely comfotable though small. The carefully scaled furniture makes the room seeme plenty big. The bed was amazingly comfortable, the room spotless and surpisingly quiet for NY. The staff in general are wonderful and so helpful. I did find that the Round Table bar could use some training. […] A gimlet made with fresh lime juice was three times made with Rose's lime juice - although I was chagred for the higher priced drink. on the last instance, the manager caught it and had it remade. This blip aside, it was a great stay in a most convenient location. Read more
I was so shocked to see how in 5 years it had become such a mediocre hotel. The room and bar are overpriced .Waiters have no clue what they are doing, spill drinks or bring you the wrong ones. You ask for a Martini with a twist and you are served a dirty martini. I remember the cocktail napkins with Dorothy Parker quotes, now reduced to plain paper […] napkins, the magnetic key holders which told the story of the hotel now also replaced by common ones. The hotel is now just a shell which justifies prices which are out of proportion with the service offered. Only Mathilda has kept her regal appearance. The rest is on its way to a Motel 6 status. Room not ready when promised, and when we could check in, they downgraded us to a smaller bed without telling us. when we asked to move to what we reserved, we were told that room wasn't ready and it was on the second floor -- could they comp us breakfast instead? we agreed, but when we picked up the comp coupons, they were for a continental breakfast […] that is about 60% sugar. Love the history and ambience, but we won't be going back. Read more
"Algonquin Hotel"
The hotel is lovely. The location is good if you have business in mid-town. The staff were friendly. The problem with the hotel.com room was that it faced a very busy street and my husband didn't sleep all night. The lobby bar is very expensive. The desk-staff definitely made us feel that we were discount guests. The room was well appointed, clean and […] comfortable. The bellman was very welcoming and gave a history of this historic hotel. "Mike and Matilda bring smiles at the Algonquin"
What a magical time at the Algonquin! Cozy, clean, peaceful....wish I was there right now! Mike, a waitstaff member, was the frosting on the cake with his outstanding service and flair for presentation!
"Great Hotel BUT.........."
The hotel is excellent (location and cleanliness) but the front service people left a bit to be desired. They stood around and chatted while we opened our own doors and carried our own bags. The front clerk at the desk was less than helpful and friendly.
"Love the history"
Matilda the cat, and The Round Table. A lovely hotel with a lot of flavor from an earlier time; lovely staff, complimentary continental breakfast. Our suite was among the roomiest of New York hotel rooms at this price; two large-screen TV's; lovely bed linens; full living/sitting room. No complaints from us.
"Horrible Experience"
We booked a one bedroom suite with a king size bed and an extra pull out queen size bed when we arrived at the hotel they told us our suite was not available mind you it was six ladies going to stay they gave us no phone call to let us know our suite wasnt available we drove from CT to NYC to here the bad news when we arrived they said they would give […] us 2 rooms and they will be right next to each other when we went upstairs they were not next to each other the girls had to seperate and also we brought some food and drinks that had to be refrigirated and we didnt have a refrigerator in the room they brought us ice! I was totally upset with the way we got treated and they did nothing to make us feel better about them ruining our plans! Read more
"Good hotel, a bit pricey!"
The bathroom was extremely small! Prices in the living room/bar were much too high!
"Great Room For The Money"
The rooms at the Algonquin Hotel are very spacious. We had a one bedroom suite with a sofabed. The only disappointment was the staff. We were greeted by a doorman who was to busy on his cell phone to greet us. The staff at the front desk gave the impression that you were bothering them. We had four adults and three towels. We had to ask for an extra […] towel three times, and then finally had to obtain one ourselves. The only staff member who was terrific was the young man who helped us to pack our vehicle as we were leaving. Otherwise the hotel is great. Read more

"No Smoking Policy not enforced"
The adjoining room had many guests smoking and the hotel's solution was to have us move to another floor at 11:30 at night. Was a big disappointment. No apology and even mention of the inconvenience to us made by anyone at the hotel. Seemed like no one cared.

"Very nice - fantastic location!"
The hotel was in a great location with close proximity to Times Square and many wonderful restaurants. Very friendly and helpful staff. Only drawback was the size of the room - rather small. However, they are quite modern with just enough "old New York" flair.

"Great Hotel"
From the moment we arrived, everything was wonderful, including being able to get into our room early. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and the bed really comfortable. The location was great for the things we wanted to do. We look forward to going back on our next trip to New York.

"Very pleasant stay"
The front desk service was friendly, helpful and very prompt--checking in and out was a breeze, and personnel were very forthcoming with information and restaurant advice. The hotel room itself was very pleasant though small and the bathroom very tiny and old. The air conditioner was loud but turned out to be helpful in drowning out the substantial […] NY noise from the 44th street side room location. Breakfast was very busy so be sure to allow extra time. "Classic hotel"
Classic hotel in an excellent location that offers good value. A historic property that tries hard to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
"Great hotel"
This is a great hotel. It has a lot of history. It isn't a "glamorous" hotel with spa's and stuff. It is just wonderful to sit in the lobby and have a cocktail. Matilda is an added bonus. When ever I go to NY, I try to stay in on of the historical hotels. This is one of my favorite.
"Ok hotel"
Nice for the history behind it - Bartender Christian was a great guy - full of information. Heating system made a LOUD knocking noise most of the night - very disturbing.
"The Algonguin Hotel"
The Algonguin has the history and the location for a perfect jumping off place in NYC. Walk to the theater, to Fifth Avenue, Grand Central and Times Square-- the city is more than alive and well! With wall paper from The New Yorker, the famous Oak Room and Round Table, you feel you've stepped back into New York history. Although our room was very small, […] it was clean and well appointed. The staff were helpful, with many important tips and suggestions. We hope to visit again.. Read more
"Great ambiance"
Lovely, charming. Only issue was that we would have preferred different bedding - larger pillows and comforter.

"A lovely stay"
We only stayed a night but from the moment we checked in, we were treated like we were returning loyal customers. The room was small, but so is everything else in New York City. Small but comfortable, clean and well laid out. The real attraction for the Hotel is the resident feline, Matilda. My wife works for the AZ humane society and we have quite […] a few four legged creatures roaming our house. Well the wife missed them quite a bit but Matilda was there in the lobby when we arrived and enjoyed being scratched behind the ear and loved our attention. Matilda made our stay feel that much more like home. The next time we come east we'll stay more than one night at The Algonquin. Read more

"Good for Broadway shows"
The location is the best feature of the hotel. Very convenient for Broadway shows. Room service was indifferent and they never came to clear the tray away. We asked for a blanket for the baby's crib and they took 30 minutes to bring us a blanket for a full size bed. Not a great hotel for small children. On the positive side, in addition to the location, […] the hotel looks great after its recent renovation. Read more
"Outstanding hotel"
Had a great stay. The customer service was excellent. The room looked newly renovated.
"very nice hotel, just the bathrooms need an upgrade"
the hotel is great, very central (but busy) location, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the suite was comfy. Only the bathrooms are a bit old and did not match the standard of the rest. Still I would highly recommend the Algonquin

"Fabulous experience, My suite was wonderful"
Very welcoming and helpful staff. I stayed in a suite, which was beautifully decorated, very comfortable sitting room and bedroom-- I slept like a baby.
"A Landmark with Great Personality"
I had never stayed previously at the Algonquin, but really enjoyed my experience. It is a landmark hotel with a very interesting history and legacy. Despite its age, it is well maintained, and has a lot of character. The front desk agent accomodated me with an early check-in, which, quite frankly, I didn't expect. They included high speed internet access […] and a free continental breakfast, which I also didn't expect of an upscale hotel. Finally, the hotel was in a perfect location, close to the train and within walking distance of Bryant Park and Times Square. Read more
"great place if you want to be near times square"
My wife and I recently stayed in the city for her birthday and decided that the algonquin is 'our' hotel. room was small but we are in nyc so it was expected. queen sized bed was comfy, bathroom was clean and i forgot a razor and they brought one up quickly. my wife loved the cat too. it's only a couple blocks from times square and subways. it was reasonably […] priced for the area as well. we will definately stay again. A little on the small side but typical of NYC hotels. Otherwise good hotel with interesting history.
"Great room!"
It was great having the room of a suite when traveling with a family. We paid about the same amount that we would have to stay in other Midtown hotels that did not have a suite.
