Had I checked into the Ritz Carlton? The staff and service provided was at that level. Fortunately, the nightly rate was far below the Ritz in San... Francisco(where I also like to stay).

    "Very disappointed"
Reviewed by Liza T of Brooklyn, NY
The reviews I read for this hotel were very positive, and so I picked the Drisco because (1) it felt like it would be a really welcome splurge for my boyfriend and me (after a week of staying with relatives in the northwest), and (2) would be fun to explore a neighborhood I don't know very well (so many hotels being downtown). Unfortunately, our travel […] plans were changed, and when we called 24 hours before we were supposed to check in (for a 2 night stay) to say we would not arrive in San Francisco until the second day of the reservation, the hotel responded with no empathy, and provided a very curt reminder that we would have to pay for the room for two nights whether or not we showed up at all. When we arrived to check in, we did not feel welcome, and were told we could find our room downstairs next to the breakfast room. And next to the breakfast room we were, where we listened to everyone coming and going from 6:30am on: dishes clanking, loud voices, and a view directly from our bedroom window across the building's (inaccessible?) courtyard to the food prep area (curtains had to be closed the whole time - no natural daylight and no view). At the buffet breakfast we decided that if we were at least 20 years older (we are 30), we might have gotten a good morning, and perhaps been asked if we wanted a coffee or a cappuccino as the older guests around us were. I tried to flag a waiter down for a bit and gave up and decided to get something on the street... Too bad the beautiful residential neighborhood of Pacific Heights where the hotel is located doesn't offer many coffee options too close by. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone - regardless of age. It is a real bummer we paid two nights for a nice hotel and ended up with one very disappointing experience. Read more

The Drisco is a well-managed, comfortable, and compact hotel that served us well during a long getaway weekend in SF. Even though our room was in the basement […] (it looked out on a wall, which was very discouraging at first), it proved to be quiet, restful, and nicely appointed. Parking was easy - never had to park more than a block […] away, and didn't have to pay for parking. The location is excellent - the hotel is surrounded by Pacific Heights mansions and a 3 minute walk took us to some spectacular views of the Presidio, the Bay, and the rest of the city. I love the Hotel Drisco and will stay there again in the future. This is in spite of the fact that 1) it is at the top of a very steep hill, so if you are a public transportation user like I am, you will have sore calves at the end of each day, and 2) you have to walk or take a bus to get to restaurants, shops, etc. Those are two very minor points, […] however, in light of the number of very positive things about the hotel. 1) The staff is wonderfully helpful; 2) breakfast! tea! wine and snacks! yummy chocolate cookies on your bed at night!; 3) a great small hotel feel--you actually feel like you are "coming home" at the end of the day; 4) free wireless; 5) residential location. It's not too far of a walk to Sacramento St., Fillmore St., and California St., and all of those streets have great food and shopping. And the number 3 and number 1 buses stop nearby. Even though the room was downstairs […] from the lobby level, the hotel is on a steep hill, so we were not underground. The breakfast buffet in the morning was plentiful and fresh--I understand there are wine tastings in the evening, but we did not partake. The location of the hotel makes you feel more like a local and less like a tourist. You can walk to many restaurants and shops, but only if you're in shape as the hills in Pacific Heights are no joke. Despite the Hotel being over 100 years old, it has been kept in excellent condition. Its location in Pacific Heights is prime. Another gem the hotel has is its staff. They definitely eased a stressful situation. My wife & I were on our honeymoon. Saturday morning we were ready to check out early and see the sights. We were all set to go but we could […] not find our keys to our rented car. We called the Car Rental company and we were told that we needed to tow the car to a dealership to have a key made. Dealing with the car rental place and the tow truck company was stressful enough and to add poor cell phone reception could drive someone mad. In fact the only negative thing I could say about the hotel is its poor cell phone signal location. Eventually we found the keys to the car. After 3 & a half long wasted hours. But , through that ordeal we were amazed with the help the staff of the hotel provided us. Especially Thanh, the Bell Man. In dealing with our ordeal, we missed breakfast. He was kind enough to bring us some fruit and pastries to keep us from starving. He was so selfless in fact that he even offered his own vehicle in case we needed it. The Maintenance man even stopped the elevator to see if perhaps our car key fell in the gap. To the Hotel Drisco, Thank you. We are looking forward to coming back. Read more

This small boutique hotel reminded me of the elegant apartment my great-grandmother lived in that I used to visit as a child. The Drisco feels more like an elegant older apartment […] building than it does a hotel. The neighborhood is not convenient to walking anywhere, but it is quiet and safe and beautiful. The hotel definitely has an older feel to it, but is clean, and the bathroom (my measure of a hotel) was modern, clean and spacious. The tv was really nice and had full cable. The hotel serves a wonderful expanded complimentary continental breakfast in a nice dining room. There is no other food service at the hotel, but they will bring you a delicious grilled panini with chips any time, 24 hours a day. The room was cold, and there are no individual temperature controls, but they will bring you a space heater that works quite well. The service was great. They also will do customized tour planning for you of sights to see in San Francisco. I would definitely stay here again, but realize you will need to drive or cab most places. Read more

The room did not […] disappoint, beauitful views across the city, an incredibly comfortable bed and a beautiful bathroom with everything you would need. Having free wifi was a huge plus and we had not found it in any other hotels we had stayed in. Every evening there is a wine hour, with amazing wines and snacks in the dining room, on one of the evenings there was a rep from one of the vineyards in Napa and we were able to taste 5 or 6 different wines, a great start to any eveing. The continental breakfast was also very good and plentiful. We could not fault this hotel and are already talking about going back. We have both stayed in a number of hotels, for both business and leisure, and agree that this is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Read more

    静な恒久住宅街の高台のホテルはゆったりと過ごすにはいいですね、団体や日本人も少なく、ヨーロッパのホテルの雰囲気、名の知れた高級ホテルよりお勧め。 但し、レンタカーが必需ですね。

Very nice employees and a strong concept. A good breakfast buffet and the afternoon tea and free wine and cheese are signs of a high service factor as well as the morning shuttle. We had very good recommendations for restaurants and they also support take-out with menus available at the front-desk so not having an in-house restaurant is well compensated […] for. Could be warm in your room if SF surprises with hot weather as there is no A/C. No hotel parking but no problem getting weekend or overnight parking in the street. A bit of walking distance to restaurants or shopping but not enough to lower the score. Read more

Read more
