"Great for couples/business travelers."
Hotel Drisco was by far the best hotel my husband and I have ever stayed at. We were there on our honeymoon and the staff made it feel like nothing less. They were very helpful and always had an answer to our questions. Our room was wonderful, very nicely kept, and we loved the location in Pacific Heights. We are still raving about how much we enjoyed our stay.

"Peaceful & quiet"
Very enjoyable. Staff was especially gracious, enjoyed the afternoon wine and cheese. The one day hop on/off was a sufficient overview of the city (an short walk to the pick up station). Our walk across the GG bridge satisfied another one of our bucket list items. Lots of restaurants and shopping in walking distance. You probably should use a cab or hotel shuttle to get to fisherman's wharf or union square areas.

"Charming, character laden hotel in Pacific Heights"
Loved the Hotel Drisco, a charming, old character hotel in Pacific Heights. The area is full of gorgeous old Victorian homes and the detail on the buildings is amazing. The hotel is very quiet but not modern so you hear people in the halls or beside you, the floors creak, there is no air conditioning and there isn't a lot of sound proofing. What there is: high ceilings, warm rooms, windows that open, a wonderful breakfast buffet(lattes to order, lox and cream cheese on the weekend), wonderful wine receptions in the pm., a free car service during the week with Julio the wonderful driver, attentive and very friendly staff….I could go on but suffice to say I would most definitely return.

"Quiet friendly quality hotel"
Excellent hotel. Staff cannot do enough. Personal and friendly service. Although located at Pacific Heights access to down town is easy, and Presidio on your doorstep. Located in very smart interesting affluent area. Local bars restaurants great. Not for you if you want City centre buzz or 5 star faceless corporate facilities. Breakfast is superb and complimentary wine tastings/nibbles every evening are a great touch. We will be back!

"High standards at one of San Frans high spots"
Booked transfer through hotel and after a three hour delayed flight were so glad we did, excellent service from all staff nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast included, excellent choice something for everyone, and cheese and wine reception every evening is well worth attending. Quality Hotel in a beautiful area " Pacific Heights" taxi cab or courtesy car down town good idea, though you can walk, we did on one occasion it is a little out of the way but we prefer that and if we ever visit again would definitely stay here.

We have travelled quite extensively enjoying all levels of service. The Hotel Drisco surpassed all of our expectations. We enjoyed wine and treats each day and a lovely breakfast every morning. The staff was very helpful, courteous and knowledgable. They went out of their way to help all of their guests. We enjoyed the courtesy drive downtown in the morning. Definitely a must in San Francisco.

"Best Hotel and Staff - ever!"
We spent 3 nights at Hotel Drisco and wished it could have been longer! It was bliss from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. The staff could not do enough for us but were discreet and not overbearing as some of the other hotels we had stayed at during out trip. The extra touches e.g. evening wine and canapés, shortbread with turn down service, extra items in bathroom and tea/coffee in the communal lounge 24/7 made our stay memorable. It was the best Hotel of our trip and we had stayed at many of the Fairmont hotels including Chateau Lake Louise but nothing could come close to the Drisco. Well done!

Amazing location, beautiful boutique hotel, extremely comfortable and very quiet which is not typical for an American hotel. We have stayed in one of the best hotels but none were insulated that well. There was always noice from other rooms or from vending machines, A/C.... Not at the Drisco. Tranquility! All the staff was very friendly, genuine friendly! We loved it!

"Hotel Drisco - a haven in San Fran"
I can highly recommend Hotel Drisco. I checked in very late after a long flight and I opened the door to my room full of creature comforts. There were slippers and a robe laid out, soft music playing, ice in my ice bucket, cold water and a chocolate shortbread. The complimentary breakfast and newspapers were a great way to start the day. My highest compliments to the staff. The service staff were friendly and unobtrusive. My room was always serviced by the time I returned from breakfast. The concierge staff were amazing. I needed some assistance with rebooking flights. The staff were helpful and efficient in sourcing my flights, checking me in, printing my boarding pass and organising transfers. Their warmth and professionalism was greatly appreciated. The complimentary wine tasting and nibbles at the end of the day were the perfect way to start the evening. It was equally easy to sit and run through my emails as it was to join in conversations with other guests. The wifi was faultless throughout my stay. Overall, the Hotel Drisco is warm, friendly and professional. Looking forward to staying there in my next trip to San Fran.

"3 nights in San Francisco"
We stayed at the hotel as part of a 17 day visit touring California. The hotel is beautiful, very clean and all staff are extremely friendly. It's location in pacific heights has its positives and negatives, positive because of the fantastic views over the city and Bay Area but it it a long walk back up some killer hills so not for the unfit, but it is nice to be away from the main tourist drag. We stayed in a I bedroom suite on the ground floor. The room was lovely and bright with a large separate bathroom and sitting area that offered lovely views over the city. There are some lovely added extras the hotel offers as complimentary within their package which includes buffet breakfast with a wide range of cereal, pastries, jams and porridge along with fresh tea/coffee and plenty of choice of juice They also offer a wine hour which gives you a much deserved rest after the busy days sightseeing in the city and a chance to chat with other guests Overall we had a wonderful stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend

"One of the best overall hotels in the world!"
I must say, as someone who has done more travelling around the world than the average person might, Hotel Drisco was quite simply the best overall hotel experience I have had anywhere in the world! Our suite (303) was perfect. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The complimentary amenities of bottled water, a great breakfast, the wonderfully conceived daily wine reception, along with a reasonably priced honor bar and room service, are not just rare in today's world, they are completely unheard of!

"Perfect in every respect"
Everything about Hotel Drisco exceeded my expectations. Attention to the smallest details can be seen everywhere. In order not to repeat the great things that other reviewers have already said (I agree with all of them!), here are my own favourites: - very comfortable bed - which is rarely the case even in good hotels - down comforter (no bed spreads!) - complementary breakfast that can more than satisfy any preferences - and I am very picky when it comes to food (fantastic selection of sheep milk yogurts) -our window faced a wall but there was a very tiny and nicely landscaped courtyard to look at - complimentary bicycles - Lucy and Ricky. - location! location! location! - the hotel is literally steps from the Presidio with its unbelievable system of walking/cycling trails and views of the city and the bridge; also a walking distance to Golden Gate Park (40 min), Filmore St. (15 min), Crissy Fields (15 min), Golden Gate Bridge (30 min). We hiked one day from the hotel to Golden Gate Park, biked on the rented bikes through the Park, left them at park and walked to Cliff House and Sutro Baths ruins, then continued all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge and through Crissy Fields back to the hotel. -the neighbourhood is beautiful, safe and quiet - perfect for someone who wants to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city This will be my go-to hotel in San Francisco. Highly recommended!

"A little Gem"
A little gem of a hotel. Beautiful boutique hotel on Pacific Heights. No 2 on Trip Adviser and I'm only surprised it's not No 1 (but I haven't actually stayed at the Fairmont so perhaps I'm biased). Our room (suite) was fabulous with every little comfort and the king bed was so comfortable it was difficult to get up in the morning. Breakfast was superb, even with little jars of English clotted cream to put on your scones! It is a liitle way from the downtown or Fisherman's Wharf action but they do provide a complimentary chauffeured car to Union Square in the mornings and you can use a cheap 1/3/5 day bus/cable car pass to get around after that. Car parking is on street and handled by the hotel staff who move the cars around as needed. The reception/concierge staff are so polite and helpful and make you feel really important. All the remaining staff are also friendly and helpful. In my opinion it is very good value for money and you will leave feeling really good and wanting to return. One tip to end with...do try to see Beach Blanket Babylon at Club Fugazi while in town.

"Far and Away the Best..."
09/04/15 essay811 Tucson, Arizona
...hotel for stay while on a visit to the City on the Bay. For a return visit to this beautiful area--perhaps the "zillionth" such visit for us--we again opted to stay at the Drisco-- for nearly the "zillionth" time. And once more, we are so very happy we did! We all know that there is no such thing in the real world as "magic." This hotel proves that premise wrong. How can a hotel demonstrate the notion that magic does not exist in the real world? An aura of warmth envelopes you when you arrive, and throughout the entire stay. Clearly, employees of the hotel view guests as members of their family--the good ones in the family-and want to ensure that all your needs are met. But they operate beyond that approach by thinking of ways to make your visit memorable, ideas you may not have entertained. They are a thoughtful and caring crew, all the way from top to bottom. A team the exudes helpfulness and it is a tribute to management that for year after year we have seen most of the same team members. In addition, the wide array of offering for breakfast will put a smile on your face, even if for some inexplicable reason you wake up in a grumpy mood. Fresh fruit galore. Meats of various persuasions. Terrifically prepared oatmeal. And a staff of servers who offer such eye-openers as cafe latte or cappuccino. Now grumpy, you do seem to have a smile. Wonder how that happened? So you have a dinner reservation at 8:00 and despite your largish lunch it is 5:00 pm and you hunger for a bit to tide you over. Well, there is a spread that will just fit your need. Oh yes, and wine too. All part of the room rate--along with breakfast. The in room amenities, the shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, etc. are all top drawer. And the rooms are spotlessly maintained. The neighborhood where the hotel is located is, well, beyond beautiful, with views of the city, the bay, the Presidio--walking distance--and get this: it is a quiet area, far from the madding crowd. So all things said, the title of this review must be revised: Far, far, and far away, the best place to stay.

"Beautiful Hotel But A Little Disappointed"
09/02/15 Nivlam Fort Lauderdale, Florida
After reading great reviews, I was looking forward to my stay at this hotel, although it was only for one night. The location is wonderful, especially if you like not being in the "tourist zone" and want to feel like a local. It's in a prime upscale neighborhood, surrounded by beautiful old homes. The views are wonderful because the hotel is perched atop one of the highest streets in the area. Due to it's location, there are no restaurants very close by, if that's important to you. I'm afraid, though, that I can't give this hotel 5 stars and I don't see how it's rated #1 in the city as I've stayed at some far superior hotels (including old historic ones similar to this). There is no air conditioning, and if you've been walking the neighboring hills all afternoon in mid-summer, the breeze coming through the open windows just doesn't cut it. Also, the bathroom and common areas could use some updating...floors were uneven and creaky but the biggest issue was that the bathroom had an old style tub and shower curtain. (I have a theory that if you are paying over $500/night for a room, you should not have to endure a shower curtain sticking to you during your shower...it just grosses me out. I don't use one at home and I certainly don't expect to see one in a small tub in a luxury hotel in this day and age). There were some other little things -- WiFi did not work in my room, there's no valet parking...I was told where to go park (not a huge deal but I'm paying a lot for this place and I expected more). Also, the breakfast was good but nothing special. The staff were very nice and attentive and the overall feel of the hotel was very nice, but I felt that for the price and the expectations that the TripAdvisor ratings set, I was let down in the "upscale luxury" department. (Please, please update those bathtubs!)

The feeling truly is one of visiting a beautiful private home. The rooms are very nice and the views are wonderful. A little updating could be appreciated. All in all, we were well taken care of at this hotel. The location is in a very quiet, upscale area of San Francisco. One can quite easily walk to filmore st or just down the road for a beautiful view toward the ocean. It's absolutely the perfect place to take advantage of the uber app and get around easily that way. There is a driver that provides complimentary rides within the city in the morning. The included breakfast is amazing !! The staff is caring. Hotel Drisco is a quiet haven in a chic city.

My wife and I spent two days in San Francisco prior to heading to the wine country. We always prefer to stay in nice boutique hotels. Hotel Drisco came highly recommended and we you're not disappointed. Everything about the hotel is outstanding. The service, the rooms, the amenities are all first class. They have a very nice continental breakfast in the morning and wine tasting with hors d'oeuvres in the evening. The areas around the hotel is made up of multimillion dollar gorgeous mansions and has a view of the bay one direction and of the city in the other. Be prepared to walk up or down huge inclines as the hotel sits at the top of the hill. Great exercise though. We enjoyed our room however the only slight negative was the fact that room 102 is next to a street and it was a little noisy from traffic at times. We can't wait to return to San Francisco and to the hotel Drisco. Highly, highly recommended!

08/19/15 VelhoSorriso Ann Arbor, MI
Room 303 provided respite for 3 nites for our group of 3. Christian and Marty pleasantly explained the Drisco pearls while we patted down with hot towels upon check-in. A bowl of apples greeted us by the front desk, opposite individually wrapped jelly bellies. Off the lobby is a living area complete with 6 special teas, coffee and biscotti. The breakfast buffet was delightful ~ fresh, varied and extensive: bagels (with bagel slicer), breads, crème fraîche, lemon curd, cream cheese, fig spread; oatmeal and toppings; tea and coffee (espresso available), juices and fruit. The wine reception was friendly, tasty and filling (olives, almonds, bread and cheese). The Drisco location, perched atop Pacific Ave and Broderick St, made for a final push on our bike ride to the Golden Gate, easily navigated via El Presidio with scent of eucalyptus. The bike package was swift, including $1000 bikes, comfy seats, basket, lock & key, and generous boxed lunch that we split among our cycling crew. Amenities are awesome, and the staff take the cake! Marty stepped up and helped me wrap a small gift for a friend with a beautiful ribbon, tissue and bag. Smiles around every corner, and truly helpful advice with directions. While a bit pricey, I appreciated the special touches ~ spot on for a celebratory splurge. Would love to return ~ and until then, we hold satisfying memories of our stay!

"Zero stress at the Drisco. Great stay."
08/18/15 jstwil Louisville, Colorado
We loved our stay at Hotel Drisco. The rooms are lovely, neighborhood quiet (by city standards), and the service over the top. Every single employee was kind, helpful, insightful. Whether it was providing recommendations for dinner, walking routes, best times of day to do things around town, or finding nearby parks - it was all done with pleasantness. The complimentary breakfast and wine reception were nice touches - food and beverages at both were outstanding. And again, the folks tending to guests were wonderful. We stayed in a two bedroom suite as we were traveling with three children. I can recommend room 204 a/b - lovely corner room and plenty of room for the five of us. It was nice to be able to spread out. Yes, it is not the cheapest stay in town, but I was never left regretting the rate. Top notch from check in to check out.

"A SF Pacific Heights Gem"
08/13/15 Susan R Los Angeles, California
Nestled on one of the most beautiful blocks in Pacific Heights, the Drisco is a small, boutique hotel chock manned by an attentive, caring staff and chock full of amenities. The rooms are large, comfortable and very well appointed.Quite frankly it feels like you are in someone's very fine home rather than a hotel. Beds are extremely comfortable with down pillows and high grade linens. The bathrooms are stocked with fluffy towels and Bulgari soaps and shampoos. Physically the bathrooms are spacious and up to date but have a vintage feel. The hotel was built in 1903, and all of its charm is still intact and well preserved. There is a wine tasting every afternoon and a complimentary continental breakfast served every morning. Is the property a swanky, shiny new bauble--no. However, it is an understated property that is as inviting, charming, comfortable, and immaculate a place as you could hope to stay in. An A+ in my book

I was here with my family for 3 nights in August. This hotel need a renovation, that is for sure, but the service is very good, so you forget the renovation when you are there. Very nice situated , the real San Francisco !!! Very well
