"Good Value"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The Ardmore is a clean, modern hotel that has power showers and staff that are friendly. The food served is well prepared and affordable. For the money it can't be beat, but if you want nice pillows, soft towels& cozy bedding then you should spend the extra money to get them. Those of us who prefer value over the little "extras" would love this hotel. The 15 minute bus ride into downtown wasn't bad unless you JUST missed the bus and have to wait another twenty minutes to get on. It is a great location for a first night into Dublin or your last because it is only 15 minutes to the airport!

"Close enough to everything, far enough for quiet"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
Very pleasant. We stayed directly in temple bar 3 nights before and wanted one night of quiet before we left. Receptionist was extremely helpful and even mailed a postcard for me so I wouldn't have to walk. Would stay again.

"Great location, very clean and comfortable hotel."
Stayed 3 days at the North Star recently and could not have been more impressed. Great location and amenities, friendly and helpful staff. Very close to all the major attractions of central Dublin.
"North Star Hotel - Sept 3-8, 2011"
The hotel was very nice and the staff very accomodating. Myself my wife and adult daughter stayed in one room with three single beds which were very comfortable. The location of the hotel near Connelly Train station was convienient as well as most shopping, restaurants and pubs in Dublin were within walking distance. Bathroom was tidy and the water […] pressure good. The wi-fi worked well for the most part, and when it didn't the funds we paid for access were refunded. Overall a very nice stay. Would come to this hotel again and recommend it to others. Read more
"North Star good location"
This hotel was a little hard for us to find at first, but the location turned out to be very good. Within easy walking distance of Millennnium Spire and all the shops and pubs around it. We asked for a premier room at the back, since the hotel is across from the train station. We could watch the trains from our window, but they stopped running before […] we went to bed. Great price, though. We enjoyed supper and the music at the pub downstairs. We opened the balcony doors to get a breeze, otherwise it would have been really hot even though the outside temp was 60. "North Star Hotel - acceptable if in a pinch"
I've stayed in worse places, but this definitely ranks towards the very bottom. The only good part about it is the somewhat decent location -- if you want to be close to the train station and bus station. Other than that, stay away. The music blares on friday/saturday nights until late -- you cannot hear yourself speak, and our room was pretty far […] from the 'action' (their bar does karaoke, so imagine how fun that is to listen to for hours on end!). If you love feeling the rumble of the nearby trains arriving every 30 minutes, then please be my guest! I mean rumble as if it were running on top of your head. Beds & mattresses were super saggy. Below average accommodations all around. Cleanliness was ok. Maybe if I had paid 70% less, i might be able to live with it. Otherwise, you're better off in a hostel. Read more

"Good Value"
The hotel is directly across the street from the train station, and the trains rumbled past every 15 minutes or so. It is located about a mile from the better parts of Dublin, but you have to walk past a few run down blocks. All in all, it was a good choice for us because we prefer to spend time outside of the hotel and mainly need a place to sleep […] . Read more
"Not Everything It's Cut Out to Be"
Upon check-in, I had learned that the hotel's internet access was down and while this was unfortunate, I was hoping that it would be remedied by the end of the day or the next morning. Unfortunately, for my stay (Friday - Sunday), there was no change and there was no internet access. I had to cancel my last night's stay and move into a different hotel […] so that I could get work done since it seemed that there was no further progress. In evaluating the price that I had paid for the hotel, for almost two hundred USD/night is a lot for this hotel given its location (not the safest feeling) and what we got was just a basic room with no frills and thrills and in fact, beds that are obviously too old since you can see a significant dip in the center of the mattress, thereby causing back pains. "good budget hotel"
This is a decent budget hotel. Perfect location right across from the main bus (Busaras) and Connolly train station. The fitness facility and sauna are of the quality you'd expect at a 4 or 4.5 star hotel. The room was clean, the mattress and feather bed on it were nice but the pillows were all very firm. My room, on floor one, had a window, yet it […] seemed very dark. The hotel service is completely different during the day shift than late afternoon or evening. The daytime people were wonderfully helpful; the others were not helpful at all. Tip: wonderful all-scratch bakery on the walk between Don Laoghaire and Dalkey (Beautiful walk through the city of Sandy Cove, where I believe the bakery was. Amazing meat pies and sweet things/breads). All in all, I'd recommend this hotel if you are wanting to avoid more expensive ones (e.g., the Clarion nearby is not much more expensive and it is in a completely different class). Read more
"a nice experience"
The hotel was very nice and well located. The staff was professional and well behaved and the room was cleaned and had all the things we need. Very central located with luas and dart just across the street. We will come back again in March, we love the place.
"North Star Dublin - adjacent to Connolly Station"
For me, the hotel location was quite excellent. 1. It is literally adjacent to Connolly Train Station (one of the two major Dublin stations.) 2. It is a very short walk (maybe 500 feet) from Busarus (which is Dublin's central Bus station and the Airlink airport shuttle stop.) 3. It is a short walk from the Custom House Quay on the River Liffey (maybe […] 1250 feet south on Amiens Street.) 4. It is a fairly short walk from the Spire on O'Connell Street, near a ton of shops and attractions (about 2000 feet west on Talbot Street.) There was a convenience store (a Tesco I think) in the same block of buildings and there were many restaurants, shops, bars, ATMs, an internet cafe, etc. nearby to the South on Amiens and to the West on Talbot. Even at night, most of the surrounding area was pretty well-traveled and well-lit, making me feel safe there alone. However, the hotel's buildings are oddly set up combination of many old buildings, and a set of train tracks literally passes over and through much of the hotel complex. (The trains didn't bother me at all, though, even though I could see them pass right outside my window. I didn't notice any noise/vibration/etc.) What did bother me was the walk from the lobby to the building containing guest rooms on the first floor. They buildings are not connected, so you have to walk outside of the hotel building into a dimly lit courtyard that was publicly accessible from Amiens Street and use your key to enter either building from. The area seemed popular with loiterers and vagrants, and I felt extremely unsafe walking through it at night, but eventually discovered that I could avoid it by taking the elevator to the 2nd floor and using the connecting walkway/hallway above the courtyard. I was a little irked that the hotel staff never informed me of the situation when I checked in because I thought it a safety issue (especially since I am a young, small woman who was staying there alone.) The hotel rooms themselves were a little outdat Read more
"North Star Hotel and Premier Club Suites, Dublin"
Hotel just a five minute walk away from many of Dublin's shops, bars, attractions and restaurants. It is also opposite a bus station so it is easy to get to further away attractions. Hotel was clean, modern and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was pleasant and there was a wide selection to choose from. Hotel staff were polite and happy to help. "Not too bad"
For the price it was alright! But when we booked a double room that was really two twin beds. My boyfriend is 6'4 so onot hte ideal situation but overall not all that bad
"Great Hotel, Location-Wise"
Hotel was excellent. Staff was friendly and willing to help. The hotel is located right near the bus line and Connelly Station. Additionally, it is a few minutes away from the tour, Paddywagon. All areas are accessible, Temple Bar, Trinity College, etc.; however, Guiness is about a thirty minute walk, but it's a nice walk - not through bad areas if […] you follow the River. "Would go back to stay at North Star"
We arrived to a very pleasant receptionist who told us everything we needed to know about the hotel, was given our key and then told if we needed anything just to ring. The room was very clean and tidy and the decor was bright. The bathroom was exceptionally clean. The bed was made for us everyday and looked good when we walked in. We ran out of milk […] etc and within 10mins of asking for some it was delivered. We decided not to eat in the hotel because we wanted to see and eat in the sights of Dublin so no comment there. "Outstanding staff"
staff are great, helful, eager to please, loads of coffee, sugar and milk for your room and real cups and saucers, excellent house services in this hotel, the chambermaids are great. Brough me a new kettle still in the box when mine would not work, they just brought a new one in 3 mins by the house keeper in person. Only gripe i have about the hotel, […] well two gripes, i had to change rooms because the air conditioner unit outside my window kept kicking in and off everry 5 mins, the start up noise was a loud bang, imagine that every 5 mins, so i had to move. Housekeeper told me its not their air unit which i believe. But the next room was facing the busy main street and without sound proofed windows its noisy and again difficult to sleep, but an improvement on the first room. Internet charge at 13.30 euros for 24 hours is steep but what's worse is the connection kept braking over the 3 days I used it. So to make this an even better hotel, soundprrof the windows facing the street, sort out the air unit outside room 18, and get a realiable internet service if you are going to charge such a premium rate. So a great hotel, Read more
"Good Value Hotel"
Good value, clean, comfortable hotel, convenient location being less than a 5 minute walk from the central bus station which if arriving by air is linked to Dublin airport by the Airlink bus service (10 euro return) and across the road from Connolly train station with trains to the coast at Howth and Bray and also the Luas tram stop for trams to other […] parts of the city. "OK"
Good location to city centre etc but in a bit of a rough area. Room ok but really noisy. You hear pretty much everything. In a five night stay was woken after 11 pm twice by the fire alarm going off for no apparent reason. Complained at reception and wasn't really given much of an explanation.
"Great for money."
Great budget hotel. Nice decor. Excellent staff...one flight of stairs to reception, but our bags were carried. Excellent security. Room spacious and clean. We loved it. Fit our budget and exceeded expectations. Walking distance from all sights..or bus stop. Eat at Dominium behind hotel. Nice place, good pizza.
"Suprisingly impressed"
When I arrived at the hotel at 8:30am in the morning I was supprisingly impressed with the overall feel of the boutique style hotel. The look hotel was very much up to date and very 20th century. The staff were very helpful and allowed us to check in early as normally check in is 2pm. The rooms were very clean and tidy however it would be nice to […] see the interior of the rooms match the same theme as the rest of hotel as this would make it extra special. I would most defintely re-visit the hotel if/when I return to Dublin. Read more

"Great for U2 shows at Croke! :)"
I upgraded to the new suites which gave me a king size pillowtop bed...it was extra comfy and made for a good night's sleep. Was convenient and close to the bus station and a ~15 minute walk to Croke Park. The suite I had was quiet, despite a train running right out my back window -- I was on the back side of the hotel. The front side is noisy, so […] as others have mentioned here, if you can get a room on the backside, but all means do so. Read more
"Hotel Quality Needs Improvement"
Very hot and no a/c. The outlets in the room did not fit into the walls properly. No screens on the sliding glass door, lots of flys. Rail road runs adjacent to the hotel every 10 minutes from 7:00am until 10:30 pm. Only after we decided to transfer to another hotel did they turn on the a/c. It would run during the day but they would turn it off from […] 11:00 pm until 7:00 am. We would wake up miserable in the middle of the night. The breakfast was not very good. "Bad location, old room"
The air conditioning was broken in all 4 rooms. All 4 rooms were old and dirty. No elevator in hotel from lobby to parking and ground level. Even though we booked club rooms (3 floors of more updated rooms) we were given the old ones and had a series of battles with staff and managers to finally get club rooms for our last night at the hotel. "It's OK"
Pros: 1. Hotel's location- 5-10min walk to the Liffey, 5-10 min walk to O'Connell St and the Spike, across the street from the LUAS, and lots of shops and places to eat nearby. 2. Very amiable maintenance staff who kept the room clean and neat. Cons: 1. No WiFi available in my room (when I stayed)- had to go down to the residents lounge to use it, […] and it was 4 Euros for an hour. 2. Yes, there is a DART train that runs next to the hotel. "noisey but central!"
the North Star Hotel is in a central location close to the bus park for the airport and 10 mins from the Temple bar area by foot. "Brilliant location - recommended for party people"
The hotel has a brilliant location, it's clean enough, value for money is definitely ok, but the hotel is quite noisy as it is central - trainline in direct proximity, therefore use this as a hotel if you are up for a party weekend and don't expect to sleep that much...
"Good hotel...great location by the train...but you will hear the train because you are so close"
we liked this hotel. Staff was very friendly. The room came with an Air conditioner...but it didn't do anything. So we had to open the window to get the room cool (visited in july) and when we opened the window we would hear the train to mindnight then again at 6am. So if you visit on a cooler month you should be good but if you want to open the windows...you'll […] hear the trains. Read more
"Fantastic Stay"
We arrived at our room and to our surprise we had been given one of the premier suites. The room was fantastic, with a huge double bed and a lovely little balcony. The only complaint would be that the room was too hot, but that was more due to the muggy weather than the room. They had also arranged a shuttle bus to the RDS arena for a small fee for […] guests. "North Star was pretty good"
The only thing is the room was very very warm, even with the air conditioning on, it really didn't help. But our stay was great, we were close to everything.
"Don't waste your money"
The reception stank of bad drains, the hotel staff we're very hard to understand due to there foreign acent and were never friendly towards us on our hole stay. The room was poor standard not worth the money paid and did not come close to the pictures shown on the internet. The bed was uncomfortable and the bathroom was cleaned to a low standard. "Excellent value for the Euro--and clean"
Within 3 blocks to walk from airport bus drop. Rough surface for pulling suit cases Walking distance to Trinity College. No elevator. Restaurant within hotel good. Hotel staff continually extends Irish courtesy. I'd stay there again.
"Awful"
The worst hotel stay I've had in years. Granted we only stayed for a few hours since we arrived at 2am due to a flight delay but honestly if we arrived any earlier we probably would have left. "Bargain given what we paid"
Well located, with a good cafe round the corner for breakfast -10 euros a head in the hotel is over the top given we paid 25 euro a head, a night for the room! Not so sure about the claims of 550m from Temple Bar, but certainly wasn't out of walking distance. Very comfy bed. We were on the road side of the hotel - was a little noisy but soon got used […] to it. Ideal for the Airlink bus from the airport - 100 yards max. The north star is ideally located, but if you are light sleeper the noise in the surrounding neighbourhood is quite loud. The price of food in the hotel for breakfast I felt was very expensive, when you can go down the street and both of eat for the same price of one breakfast in the hotel €10.95.The price for wireless was very high as well €11.00 for […] 24 hours. The staff were lovely at the hotel I couldn't fault them. But pricing and noise were an issue for me. "The North Star Hotel - ideal for O2"
The hotel itself is in an ideal location for the Luas and the O2. The surrounding neighbour would not be the most classy place in Dublin but at no stage did we feel vulnerable The only downside to the hotel was the fact that the same member of staff came into the room 4 times the following morning. Stay in the top of the Hotel, not on the side to the trains. then you have very good comfort and a quiet room.
"No good for disabled persons"
The best thing about the hotel was the location, near both rail and bus stations. The reception was one floor up from street level (no lift) making it difficult for my wife as she is in need of a hip operation. Also there were no rooms with a walk in shower only baths. The rooms were clean but a bit aged, the hot water was not very hot and very little […] pressure, no heater in the bathroom making it a little cool there.
