Amari Watergate Bangkok - Bangkok

I loved my one night in Bangkok thanks to the great and friendly staff at the Amari Watergate. Everyone was very accommodating. You must also check out the bar/restaurant in the lower level. The food and drinks are amazing and Tony/Bea and all the staff were great and a lot of fun. They also have a great band that plays every night.

I WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH THE HOTEL AS THE BATHROOM CEILING WAS LEAKING. THE TOILET FLUSH WAS NOT WORKING AND THE WASH BASIN WATER WAS NOT GOING THROUGH. I THINK THE ROOMS SHOULD BE RENOVATED AND THE CARPETS CHANGED OR SHAMPOOED. OVERALL MY STAY IN THE HOTEL WAS DISAPPOINTING.

I am surprised to see that this hotel had such a high rating. Besides it being close to the shopping centers, this hotel is not worth the money nor the rating. And for the hotels to be similar in price, it was quite disappointing to move from such a great experience to the Amari Watergate Hotel. The rooms smelled, depending on where you were the view was terrible and the bed was so hard that you could bounce quarters off of the mattress. The bathroom was not clean and when the shower was on from upstairs, water dripped from the ceiling into my bathtub. The tub would not drain and neither would the shower, so you could leave your room in the morning and the same water was there when you returned in the evening. The door looked like it was repainted by a three year old and the safe look like if you looked at it the wrong way it would break. It was plastic and very Fisher-Price. All in all, I would recommend highly considering another hotel with better quality as I think this hotel is only popular for its name and proximity to shopping. I'd recommend the Amari Watergate to anyone who is visiting Bangkok for the first time. Its central location places you near the skytram, just across the street from Siam Center and within a 10-20 minute cab drive to the restaurants on Surkumvit Rd. Reception was helpful, and able to move us into only one other room with two double beds that they pushed together. I only missed western, brewed coffee, but there are lots of Starbuck's, and the Amari Watergate has a bakery and "real" coffee shop right outside its front door. Because of traffic, we were told it would be 40 minutes to the airport, but it only took 20, and it was only mildly terrifying. If you are a nervous passenger, be prepared for three or four lanes of drivers on two lane roads, pedestrians and vendors walking down dividing lines and dodging vehicles, a few stray dogs and other impedimenta. Many, if not most, vehicles only have seat belts in the front seat. Vehicular travel in Thailand is an extreme sport. At the Amari, the concierge or porter's desk will help you identify the mode of transportation most suited to your peace of mind. It really IS the "Land of Smiles." Read more

This hotel is located at the junction of Prathunam market of Bangkok. Hotel is child/ infant friendly. Cribs are avilable free of cost. Recommended because of its strategic location. It is very close to Fashion Mall (clothing shopping), Prathunam Market, Pentip Plaza (electronic goods), Indira (authentic thai massage), MBK Mall (multiplex, mobile phones […] shopping), siam paragon mall, siam ocean world and Indira market... All of these are located within two blocks of the hotel. If you need to go further, the conciearse can hail taxies for you, insist on meter and do not agree for a flat fare that may be recommended by some corrupt staff/ taxi drivers. The hotel offers a good breakfast buffet, check if your tariff includes the same. Mc Donald's, dunkin donuts, subway and seven-11 are located accross the street. There is a food court in the fashion mall 6th floor across the street, there's another in Pentip plaza., The Piza company, which sells decent pizza and salad is located at a walking distance. The hotel itself has 4-5 multi cuisine restaurants. A host of Indian and thai restaurants and 'massage' parlours are located around the hotel. Be advised that this is an ageing hotel. Traffic at Prathunam is mostly chaotic. The sidewalks are occupied by hawkers, however you can still manuvore your straullers between. Read more

The location is downtown Pratunarm so there are masses of outdoor stalls, shopping malls, Pantip Plaza is nearby and lots more. Problem is its so incredibly crowded - the traffic is insane and crossing the road on foot can waste 15 minutes what with limited crossing points and so on. Taxis can be loathe to go to and from the Amari because of the traffic. A cab from MBK to Amari took us 2 hours at peak hour for example. I am sure many others will love the dense shopping available at the doorstep and I would certainly return to this hotel if i just wanted to crash and enjoy the many comforts of the hotel after a stint upcountry. Nice hotel! The lobby is nice and large. At the evening, you can see ladies play traditional Thai music by the instruments. The room is clean and gorgeous. The lounge cafe and the bar located at the basement are expensive. I mean not reasonable.
