I definitely enjoyed my stay at the Alsterhof Hotel. It is a very short walk to KaDeWe and the Berlin Zoo, which is a great starting point on Bus Route 100 to see the sights of the city. There is a lot of shopping close to the hotel if that is a big thing for you. The only mishap was that it rained very hard one day and water started leaking from the […] ceiling and flooded our bathroom. They offered to switch our rooms but since we were leaving the next morning we didn't take the offer. However, I will say though that they came to our rooms quickly and helped us clean up. The hotel is a beautiful and convenient place to stay in. It's a 5 minutes walk to the KaDeWe and the Wittenberg subway station. There are also some good restaurants in that area. The hotel offers a very nice breakfast buffet which is affordable but not cheap. Parking is available in the public parking garage across the street. My husband loved the […] softer bed while I wished the bed had been a little firmer, but that's personal preference. We had one of the renovated rooms with a/c and a beautiful big bathroom. We loved the place, but there is one bad thing to mention: Our room was not available for the first of our 3 nights. Apparently there was some problem with the contracted electrician and our newly renovated room was not usable. Before I booked the room, I had even called the hotel to ask if the renovation had been completed and if it could impact our stay. Of course not! So we were not pleased to find out that we had to spend the first night in another hotel which ruined the plans we had for that evening. The other hotel was also beautiful and Hotel Alsterhof paid for our taxi transportation and parking for the 3 days, but the moving back and forward cost us a few hours of our precious time in Berlin. The staff was apologatic, but we have not decided if we would trust this hotel with another reservation - especially if we had friends with us again. Read more

As of July 2012 the gotel was undergoing a major rehab so there were construction workers everywhere. Having said that and being in Germany it wasn't a big deal. The accessible parts of the hotel were clean and noise level was acceptable. The reception staff is just lovely and very helpful, they really, really make you feel at home. I always stay in this Hotel when I am in Berlin. I like it because of the location and the Hotel is good value for the price. This time I was notified by Expedia that there is some minor construction going on what won't disturbe my stay. Well when I arrived there was a betonmixer in the lobby and a sladgehammer going. I am sure that there are nicer rooms in this hotel, but I wasn't put in one. I was placed in a single room that literally felt like a closet. I could not even turn around in the shower without hitting the faucet and turning the shower to scolding hot or completely off (I'm not fat). No AC. I only ate breakfast during 2 my 3 mornings there but bc "I […] arranged" to eat for 3 they charged me for a breakfast that I never even ate. It really didn't make sense to me why I had to arrange for breakfast when it is right there in the lobby, and I have to tell them my room number anyway. Nice place, nice staff. It has a minifridge which was nice as one of us has insulin to keep chilled. Internet was not working at times, but staff can fix it by turning router on/off. No AC but windows open. No bathroom fan so lingering smells could be a problem if sharing the room with others.

If your goal is a smaller, clean, European styled hotel, this hotel would fit. It is a short walking distance to the big Zoological Gardens underground stop, the big central park called Tiergarten, KeDeWe and some very nice restaurants. Across the street is a nice little Turkish coffee house run by a gracious woman who makes delicious coffee, bakery […] treats and small pizzas. We only stayed 2 days so we did not learn all, but the exercise room was nice and the staff friendly. And for the price we secured with hotels.com, we were very happy. The hotel is located in a nice upscale and quite neighborhood, few steps from the metro station and a block away from a major shopping area. There are a few restaurants and bakeries around. Location is excellent on a quiet street only two blocks from all the busyness near KaDeWe. Therefore no rooms have street noise (a common problem). Just walk two blocks and you're right in the middle of the busy area. An underground stop is ~150 meters from the hotel door. The hotel is located in a great location near a U Bann, 2 min walk from the kdv & other attractions. Crew were helpful in everything we needed & the room was clean tidy & new, only thing that was missing was coffee & tea in the room but its nothing when you have such a nice bar near the lobby & polite staff. The hotel is undergoing major renevations but did not affect my stay since I was gone in the day and all activities were done when I got back.
