The views of Wrightsville Beach are amazing but do not expect this hotel to be luxurious. It's more like a motel - and a rather shabby one at that. Maintainence issues were apparent in the suite, the vending area, the lobby and at both pools. Everything is pretty worn out and rusty. The hotel is at a great place/location. We love the beach front. The housekeeping ladies are sweet. The problem we have with the hotel is someone tries to cut some corners and make the room layout so tight. I am pretty particular about details in the room. EVERYTHING in the room is crooked!! We very much enjoyed our stay. The property location is second to none. I felt safe there and that is the feature we were looking for in our hotel accomodations. My husband did not travel with us and he is a worry-wort. He wanted to be sure that we were in a secure area of Wilmington. I always feel a little leary running in strange places. I did not have that fear at all on Wrightsville Beach. There were plenty of other athletic enthusiasts out biking and running. We stayed in a beautifully updated corner unit that had great views of the sound and Figure 8 Island out of the bedroom and of the ocean from the living room/balcony. It was all good. Close to major attractions and an unbeatable view. Hotel staff were friendly and efficient. We will go back. Did not try the restuarant. Did use the pool (clean) and hot tub (clean as well). This property is unique for the NC coast as there is probably a 200 yard or so walk to the beach which , imo, is fantastic.

Bedroom is very small!! Felt very small for a family of 4. Vending and ice machines are only on every other floor so had to look for it. We thought that it was expensive for what we got.

Great beach maybe the best in NC. Hotel was hit and miss. Great location and pretty clean. The views are spectacular. Bed was awful, hard as a rock. Water was well water and had terrible taste. Staff was friendly but maid service was spotty.

The hotel is not in very good shape. Rooms very outdated and not terribly clean. A REAL problem with the water which had a foul smell. There pool was not great and the pool bar was very lacking. The location is nice, but for what I paid I really expected something much nicer. It was quite a disappointment.

I walked on the uncrowded beach in the morning and evening watching birds and collecting shells. The small balcony of unit 506 held a small table and two chairs for viewing the surf and the sunrise. We were looking for a driveable beach vacation that was not overcrowded, but still near good restaurants. We found it!!! The beach was great, Indoor pool for when the sun was out, and towels available for pool use. The rooms were fabulous! The rooms have evidently had some refurbishing but not of great quality. The bathtub/shower was a poor re-bath cover job. The mattress felt like a cheap $100.00 springer. We only tried the hotel restaurant for the breakfast buffet . It was warmed up overpriced frozen food. This is a very attractive hotel right on the beach. It has a welcoming lobby, and the rooms are very clean and very, very comfortable. Our stay was excellent. Shell Island Resort is one of just a couple Resorts on the Island and in comparison is as nice or better than ant of the others. The location is on the North end of the island that is exclusive yet very close to everything you need.

The premium king suite was not what was expected. Most of the electrical outlets were taped closed and not able to use. I had to call house keeping at 3PM and let them know that our room was not made eariler in the day. Staff was great. Small outside pool. 10 Kids would fill it up. Hot tub did not work.

We stayed at Shell Island Resort for just one night as we live nearby and just wanted a night at a beachfront hotel. Check in was smooth and efficient. The desk clerk had a great sense of humor. Our room was #309. The valet was very helpful in directing us where to go in the parking garage so we wouldn't have to go far with the luggage. Upon arriving, […] the room was freezing cold. The thermostat was set at 68 and could not be changed, only turned on or off. We just turned it off for a while. Our balcony was right above the poolside bar, so it was a bit loud with the sliding door open. The room size was great and towels were plentiful. Toiletries were lacking - a small shampoo, soap and lotion but we always travel with our own. I read on another review site about some horrible rooms. All rooms are individually owned and thus individually decorated. Ours was okay, not exactly like those in the pictures. The bathroom had a rather large area of mold on the wall next to the shower. The dark green carpet was very 1985. My son wore socks on it and they were black underneath after walking on the carpet. We never go barefoot in hotel rooms! The shower drain was so clogged we had to call maintenance to snake it. It took them about 45 minutes to get to our room, so we were really late getting out to dinner. We enjoyed hotel parking and beach access the following day even after we were checked out at 11am. Overall pleasant and would stay again. Read more

The bathroom doors did not lock (big problem with teens and a 2 year old running around), the water in the shower was like being sand blasted with scalding water, the sofa bed felt like a bed of sharp springs, the temp was either freezing or hot, There really needed to be a chain on the main door to […] keep my 2 year old from opening the door, the elevators were super slow.
