Stayed at the Red Lion overnight while waiting to cross on ferry to Victoria Canada. The hotel was very clean, had wonderful views of the Straight of San Juan De Fuca. The town of Port Angeles was welcoming with many restaurants, gas, stores to shop. Additionally, the views of the Olympic mountain range was outstanding. "not so good!!!"
I was given a key for the top floor, like I paid for. I went 5 flights up carrying my suitcases, there were no valets or carriers, opened the door. The bed was unmade with underwear and cosmetics on it and someone was in the shower. How easy is it to get in someones room!!. I backed out quietly, went back the five flights, I contained my anger, and […] patiently asked for a room that was not occupied. Not so good at being nice right now, but was successful. She said she was sorry gave me another key, went back up the five flights, got another room. No one in it Good. However there was no soap at all either in the kitchen or bathroom. I wanted to wash up after my 5 hour drive, down I went to ask for soap. I went to the counter and tongue in cheek asked IS IT BECAUSE WE ARE AT THE OCEAN you don't keep soap in the rooms. Are we supposed to be dirty. Again they said sorry. Next morning I didn't want service in my room, and could not find a do not disturb sign, I called down to say that I didn't want to be disturbed, and they said I had to go down to the front office to get a sign! The screen door to the balcony was ripped and a cat was staying in the room on one side of my balconey, and he was yowling and guess what there was a puppy in the other room, who was in the other room on my other side, whinning because his owners went to dinner Now I went to happy hour, found a seat by the window, and was totally ignore for at least 45 min. The first night back to our hotel they had not done our room. When they knocked to clean it, we said we would be out in 30 minutes and come back. We left before noon and returned in the evening with towels still on the floor, bed unmade, and not vacummed. When we called the manager they gave us new towels and made the bed, however, we needed soap, etc. […] Second day the room was fined, the third day no soaps again and not vacuumed which it needed because of sand. I went and asked for some soap. In the middle of the night one night the neighbors in the next room were arguing loudly, pounding on the door. I believe it was wee hours of the morning. Someone had already called the police. Then they left. The loud arguing continure for about 45 minutes when the police came again. When we contacted the desk to see if they could get this stopped they were trying to with their hotel people. We were in bed when someone came banging on the door. It scared the heck out of me and my children. When I looked throw the peep hole it was some young guy with long hair wearing a baseball hat and another big guy behind him . I asked what they wanted and he said they had lots of complains about our room and to let him in. I told him how did I know […] he was an employee. He just kept yelling at me to let him in and I better let him in. So I called the front desk and a lady answered and said she didn't send anyone to our door and don't even know what I was talking about. So I called the police and my children were scared and crying. A few mins later they called back and this time it was a the night guy who stated he had sent those guys up to our room. He started yelling at me that we were making lot of noise and threaten to kick us out of the hotel. I told him they had made a mistake. I would not recommend the standard room. The window looks out to the corridor and parking lot. No AC in this hotel and our room was stuffy, but if you open the window, people are walking right by and looking in, so you have NO PRIVACY. The Shilo Inn Seaside is right on the beach and probably gets lots of guests. Since our Hotels.com reservation had not been received yet by the hotel, we were turned away and told to come back later. I have seen the lobby, pool area at this hotel and was very impressed. I had also eaten at the restaurant which I had loved. Still like the restaurant, still like the lobby, but once you go behind the facade it is quite simply awful. The hallways are outside. The rugs have never been vacuumed. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom more spacious than in the larger suite we had last time we stayed at Shiloh Seaside. In this smaller room there was NO air conditioning or way to circulate air except to open the window that faced the walkway. The location of this hotel is great because it's right on the beach and you are within close walking distance to many things. The rooms shown in the photos on this hotels profile is not the room the I received. Our experience at the Shilo Inn (Oceanfront) was close to perfect! Our ocean view room with a full kitchen was great. We were on the 3rd floor, two floors above the restaurant/lounge. If music noise bothers you, request a room on the 3rd floor or above and away from the restaurant. The noise didn't bother us. We enjoyed people watching and listening […] to the street performers from the balcony of our ocean view room. The views were amazing! The Shilo is central to everything downtown and right on the beach! Only three complaints: (1)The pool was too cold to swim in (the weather was mid-60s) and the jacuzzi was out of order. These things happen. Not really a big deal. (2) The breakfast buffet wasn't worth the amount we paid. We were both disappointed and decided to have brunch at another restaurant the next morning. (3) The staff in the hotel lobby could have been a bit friendlier. "trouble with locks"
We love Seaside and have stayed at the Shilo before..this time they were having trouble with the door locks. Our key cards didn't work so every time we wanted back in our room, the staff had to let us in. "Couldn't check out fast enough..."
When we checked in, there was another patron at the front desk who was (and had been) having problems getting into her room, so when we went up to ours, literally, minutes after checking in and couldn't get in either, we headed back to the front desk. We happened to run into the sole "on duty" desk clerk who radioed to the maintenance person to "fix […] another door." After getting into our room and trying to settle in for the night, we were disgusted to hear a "voiceless" dog barking from the room next to ours. It would bark or growl whenever it heard us moving around.... It sounded like a cross between a bark and wheezing noise. The pounding base from the floors below (club? bar?), the dog AND the people talking in the stairwell on the floors above and below us sounded as if all were sitting right in our room with us. "I dont think I'll do it again"
The hotel was probably quite stunning back in its day. And the lobby was really nice. The poor guy working the front desk was terrific but there was only one of him. When I checked in I was second in line. Got checked in and the room keys, went to get me stuff, and alas- the keys didn't work. Later on that evening my toilet overflowed... So I went downstairs and told the same guy (luckily I didnt have to stand in line again) Went back up to my room where the water was pouring out onto the carpet (about 8 feet from the toilet) So i started packing my things assuming they would move me. We booked 2 rooms and only one was ready for check in. It took almost 3 hours to get into the other room. That was my only gripe. Front desk service was awesome- Jake was great. Excellent location on the ocean front with a great view. The hot tub has a great view of the ocean and is open all night- a huge plus. The outside of the building could use a little TLC- the high salt from the ocean has taken its toll on the exterior in some spots, but the interior is very nice and clean. "Good Location but in need of renovation."
I would like to give a better review as room served its purpose... However, the Hotel was understaffed, our room was very very outdated , and a lot of the building, (crying out for a renovation). The hotel is right on the beach and promenade. They have a parking garage for all guests. The system was moving slow, but they were very friendly and got us checked in a quick as they could. Uniforms in the hotel were scarce. Those that did wear them in the back were the dirties stained ones I had ever seen. Camel cigarettes hanging out a side pocket. Front desk was great. I didn't know who was an employee and who wasn't. I guess street clothes are acceptable here. Rooms with a view in the front are best. Silverware and dinnerware is scarce, […] bring paper plates. Parking is like gold. Once you find it, keep it and use the shilo shuttle. If you can put up with a minor uniform problem and a few other needed renovation repairs, then the location of this hotel is for you. Movies don't show up on your final checkout bill, but days later it gets deducted from your card. Pool is 24 hours and 2 free complimentary glasses of wine. Beach access is great. My stay was pretty good, going so good that ny boyfriend and i decided to stay another night. We called down to the hotel to get another night added to our bill, and they told us it was going to be 149.99 to stay again. We agreed, and just yesterday inoticed i got charged 189.99! "Won't stay here again"
We will never stay there again. The front desk people were nice but that is about all that was nice. The bed was lumpy and very uncomfortable but the sheets were nice. The room was kind of old and dumpy, coffee maker didn't work right and the coffee went all over the counter. We couldn't sleep because there were drunk teens running around all night […] yelling and slamming doors, there were lots of other people yelling at them to shut up. "Not a good stay : ("
We hardly slept at all due to band in the bar, people upstairs, people next to us. . . paper thin walls, could hear full conversations of people outside and in room next to us. Not to mention each shower, blow dryer, door closing or kids running outside the room were extremely noisy. Our goal for the night was to relax and get some much needed sleep […] away from the kids and we came home more tired than when we left : ( Seaside itself was good as usual but probably wont be staying at the Shilo again. Room was very stuffy and could not get it to cool down even after turning the thermostat to 55. Check in took forever as they don't let anyone actually check in until 4 pm so everyone is there at that time to check in because they wont do any earlier. My husband and I were there at 3 to check in and were told to come back at 4. We have never had such a late check in and lousy experience. Instead of the complimentary wine / beer offer at arrival, we would have liked a coupon toward the expensive breakfast.
