"Last Minute Stop"
Went to visit Astoria, found nothing in town available. The Seaside Shilo Inn was the closest. When we arrived, Expedia hadn't confirmed the reservation with the hotel, so had to wait over two hours for that to happen, which included Expedia having to call the hotel front desk to ensure our rooms. Once in the room, we found trash under the beds and […] furniture, trash jammed into the wall mounted door stop and wall paper peeling off. We went to the pool and found that the pool water was dirty, tiles were falling off into the pool and the over all condition was just bad. The hot tub was in good condition and worked well, as did the steam rooms. We notified the front desk of the tiles in the pool floor so that no one would get hurt, and they dealt with it promptly. We at dinner and breakfast at the Boardwalk restaurant. The restaurant staff were a complete mix. Some of them seemed to be bothered that we showed up, some were new and didn't have a clue how to work in a restaurant, and others were cheerful and tried their best. The greeter doubled as the bus boy, and he was literally running through the restaurant with glass and dishes in his arms.. After our second and last visit, this time for breakfast, the computers were broke, they gave us our meal free since they couldn't print out a bill. Queen room was on the back side of this older hotel overlooking the parking lot. It was small and hot. No flow through air or air conditioning. Single window opened onto public walkway so it couldn't be opened at night. It was uncomfortably hot and stuffy. The room was clean and neat; not a place to spend any time, however. I got the so-called "deluxe" room for 4 people. Other than the nice, unobstructed view of the ocean, I really have nothing good to say about the room. It was dusty and dirty (we had to use some of the towels to wipe the dust off the tables). The beds were egregiously beat up. "Don't waste your money"
This hotel is terribly overpriced for what it is. The rooms are pretty run down. Also, it took 2 hours to get checked in, and when we finally were checked in, our keys wouldn't work. I was given a key for the top floor, like I paid for. I went 5 flights up carrying my suitcases, there were no valets or carriers, opened the door. The bed was unmade with underwear and cosmetics on it and someone was in the shower. How easy is it to get in someones room!!. I backed out quietly, went back the five flights, I contained my anger, and […] patiently asked for a room that was not occupied. Not so good at being nice right now, but was successful. She said she was sorry gave me another key, went back up the five flights, got another room. No one in it Good. However there was no soap at all either in the kitchen or bathroom. I wanted to wash up after my 5 hour drive, down I went to ask for soap. I went to the counter and tongue in cheek asked IS IT BECAUSE WE ARE AT THE OCEAN you don't keep soap in the rooms. Are we supposed to be dirty. Again they said sorry. Next morning I didn't want service in my room, and could not find a do not disturb sign, I called down to say that I didn't want to be disturbed, and they said I had to go down to the front office to get a sign! The screen door to the balcony was ripped and a cat was staying in the room on one side of my balconey, and he was yowling and guess what there was a puppy in the other room, who was in the other room on my other side, whinning because his owners went to dinner Now I went to happy hour, found a seat by the window, and was totally ignore for at least 45 min. The first night back to our hotel they had not done our room. When they knocked to clean it, we said we would be out in 30 minutes and come back. We left before noon and returned in the evening with towels still on the floor, bed unmade, and not vacummed. "Shocked - not up to Shilo Inn standards at all."
I go to Seaside 3-4 times/year & from prior experiences at OTHER Shilo Inn’s thought it would be nice to stay there. Felt lucky to find an available room at Shilo knowing the room didn’t have an ocean view, but is right on the beachfront & was a Shilo Inn room, it had to be great–well unfortunately that was not the case. Overall very disappointing, […] not a good value at all. Needs some serious renovating before I would ever stay there again or recommend it to anyone. The 1st room we were assigned-Room 203-should not be rented out even at a discounted price, they should feel guilty making anyone pay to stay in this room. There is a stairway and a wall right outside your window. There is no A/C. There was a room service menu, no directory of services, TV was an old huge box type, don’t go to the beach to watch TV so this wasn’t a big deal. The bathroom had granite counter & tub/shower surround, tub & toilet were worn. Carpet, furniture & decor were worn & dated. Overall “felt” dirty. I was so surprised, not at all what I expected. The front desk clerk was very nice, (FYI-can’t say the same for the young woman who checked us in) he agreed with me when I told him I didn’t feel the room was up to Shilo standards and was disappointed. He moved us to a much cleaner 3rd floor room with a view of the town & mountains (still very small). "Tiny room w/ tiny windows right on the beach"
The location of this hotel is great because it's right on the beach and you are within close walking distance to many things. The rooms shown in the photos on this hotels profile is not the room the I received. This hotel is set up where all the rooms at the back of the hotel have small windows facing exterior walkways that access all the rooms on that […] floor. This set up is noisy and requires you to keep your curtains closed at all times day or night to have any privacy. Expedia had the wrong picture posted for the room. So, there was confusion about what we were to get. I showed the staff the picture and then upgraded to the room in the picture. I didn't save any money using Expedia, compared to the regular rate of the hotel. I was charged $20, by Shilo, to change the room I had reserved on Expedia to upgrade to the […] one I thought I was getting in the picture. Over all, the hotel was ok. It's not new. Clean, but it looks old and dirty because of age. My daughter really loved the loft room. It was cool. Could have done without the dead bird, seagull nest and trash up there. She didn't notice it. But, over all it's okay. It was the only available rooms that were big. The new hotel next door was booked. I would stay here again. We ate twice for dinner and breakfast at the hotels restaurant. The food was really good, IMO, and the view of the beach in it was awesome. The staff and waitresses were always nice and awesome. Like I said, it's older but the location is great and they have a great parking garage next to it where guest park for free. You're pretty much in the middle of it and everything is a short walk. Considering the confusion and age of the hotel, I would stay here again regardless. It's still cool It was pleasant and my daughter loved it. The doors do slam. "Dirty & Overpriced"
Before arriving our card that we wanted to "hold the room" with was charged and overdrew the account, we wanted to pay with cash when we arrived. Then the room they gave us had NO towels, no screen on the window and the window faced an open area outside anyone could get in. We stayed for two nights the 3rd and 4th of July. It was a very very last minute booking so glad we found something BUT for $200 a night. The room was very small and had no AC. Our experience at the Shilo Inn (Oceanfront) was close to perfect! Our ocean view room with a full kitchen was great. We were on the 3rd floor, two floors above the restaurant/lounge. If music noise bothers you, request a room on the 3rd floor or above and away from the restaurant. The noise didn't bother us. We enjoyed people watching and listening […] to the street performers from the balcony of our ocean view room. The views were amazing! The Shilo is central to everything downtown and right on the beach! Only three complaints: (1)The pool was too cold to swim in (the weather was mid-60s) and the jacuzzi was out of order. These things happen. Not really a big deal. (2) The breakfast buffet wasn't worth the amount we paid. We were both disappointed and decided to have brunch at another restaurant the next morning. (3) The staff in the hotel lobby could have been a bit friendlier. "trouble with locks"
We love Seaside and have stayed at the Shilo before..this time they were having trouble with the door locks. Our key cards didn't work so every time we wanted back in our room, the staff had to let us in.
