The staff are very friendly & helpful. The security & safety of the hotel should be improved. Anyone off the street can enter the building 24/7 & rooms have keys (not electronic cards). Safety was a high concern when I returned to the hotel after dark.

My Stay was Horrible. he front desk person when I walked in was not very atentive and when he gave us our keys assumed I had been there before Which I had not and seemed that he hadmore important things to do than pay attention to a customer. The overall pictures were great. I booked a room with a view of the court yard. When I got to my room, I realized my view was a corner view of the pool and not the court yard. Housekeeping could use a pep talk. Large ball of what appeared to be cat hair mixed with other vacuum bag remains greeted me from the middle of the carpet next to the bed. Melt water from previous guest's ice bucket had not been emptied nor plastic liner replaced. We have stayed at this hotel many times and the key is to request a remodeled room. The updated ones are like a 4 star hotel while the ones that have not been renovated are shabby with old uncomfortable mattresses etc and more like a 2 star.

Very friendly, helpful check-in. Clerk did not know that there is no parking where she drew on the map that "this is the best place to park", I don't think she had been to the lower parking area. We stayed at the Shilo as a stop off point on our way to the Oregon Coast. Like a lot of Shilo's, it's old and in need of major upgrading. It has the feel of a 1970's basement remodel with dark paneling and rundown carpets and the accompanying smell. That said, the service was great and people were friendly. We enjoyed the complementary hot breakfast […] for our whole family and they have a lovely fountain courtyard. The surrounding neighborhood is a mix of high-end car lots and "gentlemen's clubs" on a busy 4-lane street so be cautious with families. Everyone was beyond nice; very efficient and extremely quiet. The fountain in the pond in the center of the property was lovely and provided a very soothing waterfall sound. The beds were so comfortable!! I slept GREAT all five nights of my stay. The hotel looks nice from the outside but is not on the inside. First they gave us two keys and only one worked and we had to giggle and wiggle in order to get our room. Then they tell you to dial 0 if we need anything well our phones didn't work so we were unable to call for room service. Very friendly wait staff. Delicious free hot breakfast. Fun karaoke in the bar. Only drawback was that our room, which I requested a ground floor room, was about 1/2 mile from the main building and we had to walk many flights of stairs to get from our room to the restaurant for breakfast. Otherwise, we had a great stay.

A friend and I came into Portland for a book signing. Our room was clean and fairly well maintained, although it was very outdated. The beds were like rocks so we didn't sleep well. The staff was nice but the maids tried to come in a full 2 1/2 hours before check-out.
