Nice and clean hotel. I was not in the room much so it did not matter it was very small. It seems hotels in NYC are adopting a european model. there were clever nooks and spaces to fit eveything. If you are staying more than a couple of days this probably is not the place for you. For an upper east side hotel it was in a nice neighborhood. By the way […] , the mattress was little bit soft. Although the rooms are small, it's New York (what did you expect). It was very clean, tidy, and accommodating. I chose the room with a personal bathroom and everything was great! It's located in Manhattan, right next to the U.N. and it's super close to everything. I loved it!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We've stayed at The Pod many times- often choosing bunk bed rooms with shared bath- and loved it. This time the room on the 11th floor was shabby, more cramped, and tv reception was terrible. Sounds from the next room were clearly audible, our suggestion: redo or can the two rooms on 11 that are across from the elevator. All else ( the lobby, rooftop […] deck, bathrooms and free walking tours) were wonderful! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This was a great place. Great location, great staff and clean. Shared bathrooms were a little strange but there were enough that there was very little wait if any.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We were just looking for a place to sleep, so we weren't expecting any frills. That being said, it was kind of disappointing. The photos showed rooms with pops of color. The room we got was on the small side and the sheets were a boring blue/gray. The unbearable part was seeing fuzzy clumps of mold around the shower knobs. The whole place is humid, […] so that's not much of a surprise. I think next time I will visit a different establishment. Don't forget to bring your toothbrush and toothpaste here! "Perfect for short stay"
If you served on submarines, this is perfect for you! Ikea to the extreme in terms of what they do with space utilization but this left with me with a highly functional, interesting experience that I enjoyed. Not for the extended vacation or those on extended business stays but if you're looking for a good, clean hotel in a great area without bells […] and whistles give it a try! Very close to most central New York attractions. Very affordable, but found the room to be quite small. Smallest bathroom ever ! But who cares for a night. Many choice of restaurants around. Quite safe.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was ok, but our room had a clogged drain and getting coffee in the morning was a struggle because there was such a small window and there were many people in line. A lot of hotels just set up a coffee stands to avoid this.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was extremely small. It was not the cleanest one and the employees aren't very helpful. The location was good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"clean and safe"
It was very clean. The service was excellent, especially considering the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall o.k. Room space tight; price a bit high but clean and central; lobby with breakfast bar convenient and well managed. Staff polite.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I knew the room was going to be small. I didn't realize it didn't have a bathroom. But it was clean, the staff was friendly, and the location was great. Would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Will stay here again."
Great location! Friendly hotel staff. Stayed here with my daughter and we loved the convenience of the location which allowed us to explore and easily get to our show (and walk back) at the end of the evening without wearing ourselves out. The rooms are small but that's typical in New York. The shared showers were no big deal either. People seem to […] understand they go in, do their bidding, get out. We never had to wait. "Convenient Stay for a night in the city"
The hotel is very nice and the rooms are great if you are just using it as a crash pad. The bed was a comfortable full-size. The bathroom is small and if you are a larger person in height or weight, the toilet may prove uncomfortable, but for us it was manageable. Rainshower glass shower displays into the room and is a little voyeuresque, but we had […] no objections to it. The staff was accommodating although my wife did have one rude clerk, who hopefully was just having an off-day. I'd stay there again as it is conveniently next to my job and the E&M subway lines and several restaurants and bars. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"I thought I was in the movie SAW"
Worse than a hostel for 200.00 a night?! I was "upgraded" to a room with my own bathroom. The bathroom looked like a prison and the twin bed was short, dirty and the pillow was a off white dingy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, but small"
Great location, very clean hotel. However, rooms are barely big enough for two people. Sink is tiny. No ice available, either. Overall, a good experience; however, I would probably look for something a little bigger next time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient by subway or walking to everywhere."
Loved our open window!! Great place to stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"OK for students and tourists"
The room was small but reasonably comfortable. I would not stay in the rooms that use shared communal bathrooms again. The problem is that other guests are in/out of the bathrooms all night long, slamming the doors. So it's very noisy and hard to get any sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Pod 51 is a great bare-bones mid-town home base. The rooms are tiny, but like a berth on a ship everything is arranged perfectly to maximize the utility of every possible space. Comfy bed, nice shower, well designed. Love the proximity to transportation and restaurants/bars. The bar/cafe on site doesn't hurt and I swear, next time we're going to get […] up to see the rooftop garden. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"I loved Pod 51"
I enjoyed my stay at the Pod 51 I was here for a week and it was very clean and quiet. The staff was very nice! At first I assumed that the room would be too small but it was perfect and although I was in New York for business I never wanted to leave the hotel. The location was Perfect I would recommend any one to come here. This is my go to spot every […] time I'm in Nyc. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
As the title describes it, a glorified hostel. Way to expensive, rooms are small for what you pay for, and the window AC unit was so loud. It came to the point of do you want to be able to sleep or do you want to be comfortable. Wouldn't recommend this "Hotel".Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fine If You're a Hobbit"
Artsy place. Clean and staff was nice. The rooms are VERY small and may or may not have a bathroom in them. I travel a lot and I don't need a suite everywhere I stay, but I do need a bed that fits me. I am a little over six feet tall and about 190 pounds, and i simply couldn't find a way to fit on the mattress. I woke up several times to pick the pillow […] up off the floor because I was so cramped. I did have a bathroom in my room, but it was so small that if you wanted to sit down on the toilet (which was the size you might find in a 1st or 2nd grade classroom btw) you had to put your feet into the shower. I would not stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Much Too Loud"
Walls are incredibly thin, especially through the door out to the hallway. Got almost no sleep from hearing other guests come in and out of their rooms and talk to each other in the hallway. Some rooms share a hall restroom, which is advertised and completely fine, but this did of course increase hallway foot traffic and made additional noise that was […] very bothersome from inside the room. Would NOT recommend. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"nice location, small rooms that need some maintena"
Hotel is located in a quite area, but 5 blocks walk from 5th ave, and maybe 10 from Times Square. There is a subway station right in the corner, and several options for food in the block. Hotel staff was nice during check in-out. I stayed in a single room without private bathroom for 3 nights, and then I needed to stay one more night so I moved to a […] double room with bathroom. The rooms were quite small, both of them, single room was ok for one, but double room may be quite small for 2 ppl. In the small room the AC was an old one, and it wasn't cooling enough. With those small rooms I was expecting to hear everything from the other rooms, but surprisingly the rooms was really quite. The shared batroom were not an issue, they were always clean, big enough (one of them was larger than my room!) and I never had to wait because all of them were taken. There were 3 of them in my floor. Overall, if the price is significantly lower, I would be back, but if it's similar to other surrounding hotels, I would prefer rooms a bit larger. The roof deck and lobby were great places to relax. The lattes were superb. The rooms were very small. Exactly what is described. The rooms were very clean. The bathrooms were too, except there was a lot of water on the floor from the showers. The location and neighborhood are safe and great. The subway is close.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean & efficient - just want we needed"
This hotel worked out very well for us. It was close to the subway. And reasonably close to Rockefeller center. It was clean. It had all the essentials we needed. And an excellent rooftop area! We'd stay there again for sure.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Place worth returning to"
Our second time here. Small rooms but tidy and clean. Efficient design for small space usage. Love the rooftop patio. Never a problem getting into shared bathrooms on our floor. Warning- no wash cloths provided. No paper towel or hand dryer in bathroom. We ended up buying a roll of paper towel to use during our stay. No bath math when stepping out of […] shower -- floor gets wet - a bit dangerous for next bathroom user. Excellent location-- 51st St. subway station just a block away. "Hotel not hostel"
This is a very nice facility, though not luxury accommodations by any means. The intention is to give bare-bones hotel accommodation in good areas of good quality. Generally the facility is well run and geared to those seeking few extras and is perhaps easier on those younger or used to hostels. I had no major problems during my stay. My room had a […] clean interior and adequate space for baggage and hanging, though no closet. The bathroom was shared and down the hall, but was easily available and clean (virtually always available when needed without a wait). Two reservations: the mattress could have been a bit better and a local bed light had the lens cover detached previously with the switch incorrectly placed. This was minor however and being capable, I fixed this myself to restore the lighting switch function. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Friendly staff, well located and clean rooms are what makes me stay in this hotel when in NY.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel was better than expected and was great value for money however the overpowering smell of airfreshner throughout the hotel especially in the rooms was very irritating. Not a good choice for those with allergies.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"budget hotel in the quiet part of new york"
Good for 1 or 2 night stays. If you're tired of the noisy part of ny then this is the hotel for you.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A+ for Value, but very small (duh)"
Pros: Midtown @ an excellent rate, helpful staff, clean, modern furnishings. Cons: Bunkbed room is like a large closet (hard for 2 ppl to move around), shared bathrooms very hot/humid (clean from what I could see but still kinda sketchy—bring flip-flops!), hotel room was a little rough around the edges (could use fresh paint, the moveable arm of the […] tv was broken, etc). My boyfriend found the futon-like bed hurt his hip, but I had no trouble. We happened to visit during floor renovation in the lobby which made the elevators painfully slow and the lobby much more chaotic. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel seems old just like everything in NY but it is renovated with new furniture and what not. Also just like anything in NY it is TINY! very narrow hallways, bathroom just a little larger than an airplane rest room, definitely not an ideal place for a claustrophobic!! "Convenient to Grand Central 48th St. Entrance."
Wife and I (senior citizens) come to the Big Apple about 2 to 4 times a year from nearby Pike Co. PA. We drive I-84 to Beacon, plenty of station parking, and take the Metro North train to Grand Central Terminal from which point it is a short walk to the Pod 51. Have stayed several times and plan to keep staying. We like the general architecture and […] decor in the rooms and public places. We like the breakfasts, the rooftop lounge, the room decor, bath, and lighting, and the friendly service. Most of all we like the room rates. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
