If a one and a half star hotel exists, this is it. The hotel was clearly built in the 1940's or 1950's. The rooms are just barely making it. The bathroom is small, including the shower-stall, with the towel hanger right OVER THE TOILET (ie. if a towel slips...). The towels are paper thin - the kind you might have used in PE in high school (or get at […] a 99 cent store). The beds were comfortable, but we found hair in one of them and the single blanket on them was super thin. Our room had a very strong smell of soap (like when you open a new box of soap). The staff were curt but overall professional, but I would NOT say service oriented. When we asked for extra blankets at 11pm, we were told in a blunt and succinct manner to come to the front desk (not that I minded going, it was the manner). Stayed a night and that was too long. The toilet had a brown ring of hard water build up. The sheets were worn out to the point where I could see through them in some places. The TV made a high pitch noise when it was on. The heater and the mini-fridge were noisy all night long. An older motor lodge-type facility. The tv is on the side of the bed. The room was small and ants were in the bathroom. Morning breakfast consisted of coffee, tea, toast, and prepackaged pastries. The middle of the room's vinyl chairs were caved-in in the middle. The proprietors were not friendly.

There are a few things that caught my attention. Hotel staff is professional and courteous. The rooms are very clean and meticulously made up. They show a pride in ownership. This is equal to many expensive hotels. Hotel is old. Rooms are small. But when I think about it, I think we got our money's worth. Do not mistaken this with "you get what you pay for" in the case of El Camino Inn. It is conveniently located close to San Francisco. Has plenty of parking. I had contacted some downtown San Francisco hotels, and they were charging $25-30 a night for parking. The beds in our room squeaked a lot, but you get used to it after a while! We stayed 2 nights, and got used to the whole thing. Bathroom and shower are pretty small, but I guess people were happy with it when it was built whenever it was. We were told we'll get a light continental breakfast. Something I had not heard before. The hotel is very splendid! I went their alone, so I got the small room (as the manager said). However, I found the room very gorgeous. The hotel also includes free breakfast for every guest. However, as I normally have big meal for breakfast (I am asian), I found their breakfast quite not satisfying (bread with jam and butter, oatmeal, coffee, hot […] chocolate). For the price, it's a great hotel. Not particularly modern and space is limited (especially in the bathroom), but reasonable. Breakfast was pretty basic as well. Check-in/out was very quick. Good mexican place directly across the street with a bar. Stayed with my wife and an infant and didn't have any complaints.

The carpet is very old and dirty. The chair have holes...torn upholstery. The room smells cigarette...very small room. The bathroom doesn't have any ventilation. By all outward appearances, when we drove up, this didn't look like a great place to stay. It looked like one of those old hotels you see as you drive through the desert. It took about 10 minutes for our buzzer to be answered at about 10pm, we buzzed it three times. The attendant finally arrived and pointed us to the door where he buzzed us into the […] lobby. He was polite enough. After a few minutes we were on our way to our room. The room was spartan accommodations, very small, and the bathroom was even smaller. A large, large person could not fit in the bathroom. It was cold in this room as well as the bathroom, but it was stormy outside and it was Daly City. The bed was small, and hard as well. It fit both of us but it was tight. The room was clean, and smelled just fine. It also had a fridge and a TV. I didn't want much, and I didn't get much, and, it was better than I had expected. The noise from Mission street, was noticeable, and we awoke many times from noisy cars, trucks, and the street cleaner. Would I stay here again? Yea, I probably would. It was just fine. Read more

This hotel worked well for us. It is small and older, but very clean and well maintained. If you need a place to sleep, shower and store your stuff while enjoying San Francisco, this is the right place. There was parking for hotel guests. We ate at the Mexican restaurant across the street and it was very good and had great service.

This is a 1950's style motel, and looks it, although they have made some attempts at refurbishing. It was clean and neat, but the decor is 1950's grandma. The heater was one of those old gas wall heaters. I did not see AC, although it was not the time of year when I needed it. There was no blow dryer in the room. When I called the front desk, they said […] I could come down and get "it" (is there only one?). When I pointed out that that would involve getting dressed and going outside with wet hair, she kindly offered to bring it up. The breakfast was a "last forever" sweet roll in plastic wrap and highly watered down orange juice, period. The cleaning staff left half-used shampoo and hand lotion in the room--gross!! When I came in the smell of disinfectant was so strong that I immediately had to take an allergy pill. I would say it was okay if there's nothing else available in the area, which was my situation, but I would use it only as a last resort. I definitely did not think it was worth >$100. Read more

When we finally found the hotel, at first I was worried it was going to be bad. It's not very impressive from the outside. But once we went in our room, I relaxed. The room was small but very clean. We had two double beds so they were a little small for the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids) and they were kind of hard, but the price was right and all we needed […] was basic accomodations. The breakfast was nothing to write home about, just toast, coffee and store bought danishes in plastic, but it was free and filled our tummies until we could get a decent meal later in the morning. Overall it was a pretty good hotel. The room was clean and smelled nice. And there was plenty of parking off the street. The staff wasn't always at the front desk but when every I went in they would show up quickly. I booked the room for its low price and close proximity to SFSU. There are a few negatives though. First, While the room was clean there […] where a few stains on the sheets. I could tell that the sheets where washed but if sheets have stains, then they shouldn't be used. The second thing was the breakfast; I wasn't expecting much due to price but all it consisted of was coffee, sweet rolls, and oatmeal. Not a whole lot. The rooms with two beds are more comfortable and spacious, including larger closet, fridge, microwave, and bathroom space. The location is safe and close to BART, 280 Fwy, pharmacy, and supermarket. A basic roadside motel. My room was small, clean and tidy. The furnishings were cheap but pleasant. Everything worked, including the wi-fi. My only complaint is that the thin walls permitted a lot of noise from the neighbors. It's a good deal if you need a place to stay in Daly City, or if you are seeking a cheap way to visit SF.

The service was good, the hotel was clean-furniture and decorations were a little outdated. The bathroom was clean, but small. I would recommend it if you are using it for a place to rest after a day of sightseeing or after a business trip but if you are looking for a place with a lot of "extras" this is probably not a place for you.

I've been to this hotel several times being my child goes to SFSU. It is one of the very closest to the university and it's a price you can't beat. I personally prefer to stay on the outskirts of the city and it is such an easy drive to the university, especially compared to downtown traffic. There is a BART station w/in walking distance, but I've always […] driven up and taken advantage of the free parking + free internet. Also, free internet. I've read some of the other reviews and while, yes, the area appears more "ethnic", all of SF is peppered with homeless people and drug addicts (including Union Square!), so being around "ethnic" people doesn't bother me. I teach in a title 1 school and I can tell you the area around the hotel has no signs of gangs like graffiti. The lobby staff and maids are very accomodating, too. Tip: if you are coming up to visit SFSU, park and "shop" in Stonestown Mall, and take the M-line into the city. Much less hassle with driving through the city. Read more

Some guests were like me and there at the hotel for work purposes but others were there for other reasons. The "others" had problems with lack of eticate where being quiet after hours was concerned. If you are looking for 4-star luxury, this property is far from your best choice. If, however, you are looking for a clean, well-maintained, throwback to the 50's motel (with the "sanitized for your protection" toilet seat band to prove it) this is a good option for you. The neighborhood itself doesn't offer much, so this property functions more as a jumping-off point and place to sleep rather than as a place that's in the middle of it all.
