"Lovely only one concern"
Wonderful staff excellent location free wifi & comp continental breakfast! Room was clean and tidy BUT the bed pillows & mattress needed double cases/sheets - not happy!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good location, clean room, fair rates. Nice to have breakfast included. Right next to the best parking lot in this part of the City. The only down side was the shower needed the grout to be cleaned.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is in a great location near many stores, Chinatown, and the ferry building (a mile walk). We took the BART from the airport to the hotel (Montgomery stop then a short hike) for less than ten bucks each. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. The rooms are well designed and bright.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was small and a little overpriced but it had a good location and a comfortable bed. The bar downstairs was loud and crowded and the bartenders were mediocre but once the crowd left it was a good spot to chill, I recommend getting beer over cocktails here.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to shopping and restaurants"
It's a perfect place for people in the East Bay to stay and enjoy shopping and dining, without breaking the bank. This has become an annual event for us.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice we'll situated boutique hotel"
Except for a few problems with room safe. Stay was fine. Small room but great bed, pillows and bathroom. Remodeled Old hotel but quaint. Recommend restaurant. Limited menu but well prepared food. Attentive staff. Parking across street.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great little find!"
Hotel and staff were great. Rate was consistent with service and amenities. The complimentary cont. breakfast was delish, I loved the selections of bread and the hard boiled eggs!! . Although I would have loved a towel rack/bar next to the sink (which was located in the bedroom-quirky but fine) and a box of tissues. Funny the things you miss. But I […] loved the hotel and would definitely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cool, Hip Boutique Hotel- amazing bar!"
I stayed here during my company's holiday party and it was perfect. It's right off Union Square (but not in the Tenderloin...ie stay away from there if you're a new tourist to SF) and across from the Sutter Stockton garage. The lobby didn't look like much, but the hotel itself is really cool- a very vintage, 20's, mobster feel with dark red wall curtains […] and dim lighting. The room was great- everything was new and absolutely spotless. My only complaint is their room heater is not that great. Otherwise it's amazing and despite that i would stay here again. Go check out the bar on the 2nd floor and have a Hemingway- so good!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Stayed here for 2 nights over a recent weekend. Nice, quiet, clean, boutique hotel in the heart of downtown. Within walking distance to many stores and good restaurants. Would not recommend the in-house restaurant, Burritt Room. We were underwhelmed by both the service and the food. There are plenty other local restaurants that are better for the p […] rice. "So close to being amazing... But..."
Overall they're trying hard with a modern lobby, hip staff and a gourmet restaurant and pub. But as everyone else says, the elevator is constantly out. The wllas are thin and if you get loud neighbors.... Good luck. Make sure to bring ear plugs, it's very loud at night. Still a good value at around $100.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Elevator was down for the duration of our stay (8th FL), staff wasn't too concerned, said it was a regular occurrenceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Modern and Conveniently Located"
Professional and friendly staff were efficient in check-in and check-out and porter service. Eric inquired about our satisfaction and invited us back -- not via a canned script but in a genuine manner. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated. All the modern conveniences. "Elevator as old as building"
Very nice, updated lobby and rooms and great staff. The room we had was on 8th floor. Elevator very old, slow and at one point shut down on us on 4th floor and luckily the door could be pulled open to exit. Elevator was broken remainder of visit so had to take stairs. Very inconvenient especially checking out with luggage and shopping bags.Wireless […] internet was free but I couldn't get it to connect so had to doc computer and once I got connected it kept kicking me off so wasn't worth the frustration. So i drove in from lake tahoe to spend the next day here in SF and i chose to stay at The Mystic Hotel. Let me just get right to it. I was asked to pay 2 seperate deposit fess under 1 reservation simply because i had 2 rooms. Beware that if your getting 2 rooms expect to pay a total of 300 dollars for a deposit. Way to go mystic !!!! Other than the […] bathroom being so frickin small and staying on the 7th floor with a broken elevator and not having any help with luggage, Be prepared to hike up all those stairs alone!! the positive side ur right by everything oh yeah and No Parking within the hotel you have to go across the street and pay up to 35 dollars a night.. other than that bed was comfy and the shops are right out your door :) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"well worth the money"
Stayed for two nights in the junior room. Small but had everything I needed, even a Sony alarm clock with iPod dock. Bathroom was very clean. Hotel bar in second floor has nice atmosphere and seems to be very popular with the locals. One complimentary cocktail was included with the room. Staff was very nice and always helpful. "Nice hotel in a great location"
I stayed for a weekend and found the hotel staff to be courteous and helpful, the room was clean and spacious compared to other hotels in the area, the bar was mellow with good service and decent prices, and the location is amazing. The elevator wasn't working when I arrived and it wasn't particularly reliable during my stay, but I didn't mind the 5 […] flights of stairs. It's a really old elevator that fits in nicely with the hotel theme, but I was afraid to get stuck in there. My one peeve was that the heater in the room is the really old fashioned steam kind that if you leave on when you go bed will make a racket in the middle of the night. Mine almost gave me a heart attack on my first night and I heard a couple of others from my floor go off during the weekend. Aside from that, the hotel in general was very quiet and my stay pleasant. "good value in central location"
For the money, this is an excellent value. The room was very small, but clean and attractively furnished. The hotel is a short walk from Chinatown, a little bit further walk from the waterfront. The number 30 bus stops right outside, putting the whole city in easy reach. The bar is pricy and crowded in the evening, but they did have live jazz music, […] which was nice. The hotel was a great location and beautiful décor. The hairdryer didn't work and shorted out the entire electrical system. Thank god for the iphone flashlight so I could find the switch to reset the fuse. The hotel staff didn't bring me a hairdryer despite the room charge of $692/night. It was nice small but clean and kind of retro looking, we walked everywhere we went and only paid $18.00 for overnight parking till 3pm the next day.Breakfast was really good and the shopping too :)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice hotel, very friendly staff, rooms are small but have everything you need. Only reason the hotel doesnt get a 5 star rating is due to the outside noise from the street.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Cool Chill Chic"
Great place to stay to be close to all that is happening in that neighborhood. Love the touched of the free drink invite, the free wifi, and the friendly staff. The rooms are super straightforward - but clean and a solid use of space.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fantastic value and location"
This hotel sits in the shadows of much larger, and much more expensive hotels, yet shares the wonderful location and proximity to overnight parking. I was welcomed by a complementary cocktail coupon, and allowed to check into my room before the standard check-in time. Front desk staff were cordial and welcoming. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our stay at Mystic was for business. We basically came into town, got ready, went to an event, slept and then left. The hotel is clean and has a very boutique feel, which we love. Definitely not a chain hotel!!! That being said there were a few minor issues - we did not have a bottle opener in our room to open the sparkling water in the mini fridge […] that was provided by the hotel. It took several trips from room service to get us one. They finally borrowed one from the bar downstairs and waited while we opened our drinks. The hotel lounge/bar is nice and they had a decent continental breakfast with all the trimmings. We would probably try another hotel in the area on our next stay unless we could get a really really decent rate at this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cute little hotel in SF"
After reading everyone reviews and then having my own experience I would agree to many of the comment, good and bad. Its a tiny little hotel in Union Square, it doesn't have parking but does have an affordable lot across the way. The hotel it self is really cute, but kinda old. You can tell kind of an old Apartment building redone to a hotel and thats […] why it can be loud. Me and my boyfriend got a great deal on hotels.com with the junior suite. Which I have to say is tiny, more for one person and a really bad view b/c it's just a brick building. We talked to the front desk b/c we wanted a brighter room and they were so very nice to upgrade us to a queen suite which was great. People say theres no a/c, true but being in San Francisco you don't really need a/c. They have an amazing restaurant inside the hotel, a little pricy but we really enjoyed it and the bar had a great jazz band playing live music. Overall it's definitely a little different but I didn't mind it. The rooms were nice and clean and thats all that matter. Its really not for families or long stays. "Great location...near Union Square, Chinatown..."
The hotel was a very eclectic ...However, the corridors and occupants nearby make it very noisy. The hotel restaurant is quite nice....but pricey. The room has a European feel - very small & few amenities! Overall, the hotel was satisfactory, but the location is ideal!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Worn out property."
This "boutique" hotel is a disappointment. Our room on the 3rd floor was very noisy, from outside and from the Burritt Room on the 2nd floor. One day our room was not made up - no one came in with new towels, etc. There is a small narrow foyer leading to the front desk, and an adjoining sitting area with a computer and printer when you enter off Stockton […] Street. An older elevator, where you open the door after the car arrives at your floor and you squeeze in - just barely room for 2 people wheeling a suitcase each. The continental breakfast each morning was nice, and the Burritt Room has music and cocktails nightly, but the stairways and room floor hallways have old red carpeting over old wood. The room we had was not air conditioned, was very small, and there was no tub in the bath. Just not what I expected. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent location to Union Square"
I chose this hotel because of it's very close proximity to Union Square, where the Nike Women's Marathon was to begin and it's expo is located. Also, it was one that didn't require a 2-night stay. The hotel lobby and room decor were very attractive. My room was clean. Bed was extremely comfortable. Limited closet space disquised in two cabinets on each […] side of the bed. Couldn't hang a coat or pants unless they were folded over a hanger. The bathroom could use a vanity counter or a wider ledge under the mirror, otherwise you'll likely as I did, knock something into the toilet which doesn't have a lid! Steam heater. Hadn't seen one of these in awhile, but blended in well and not noisy. The onsite restaurant, Burritt Room + Tavern was enjoyed by everyone in my dinner party. The food was very good. As a guest of the hotel I received a complimentary cocktail of the day which was The Hitchock. Delicious! Live jazz band played til 10 o'clock almost on the dot, thank you since I had to get up very early Sunday for the race. The hotel provided the marathon runners with coffee and fruit which was very much appreciated. As was the late check-out if you requested it. I would stay here again, race or no race. This is just an old building that they tried to make into a modern hotel. The room has modern features, but the floors creak and it smells like an old building. "Old Musty Hotel"
This hotel is not a good value for the price. It is on the fringe of a pretty bad neighborhood. It is old and musty. The carpet in the hallways looks like it has not been cleaned in years. The room was nice but had no air conditioning. The staff was nice and was helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I enjoyed my stay at the Mystic Hotel and the staff could not have been more accommodating. But business travelers who need a desk, easy access to outlets for their equipment, and perhaps a coffee maker should know this is a boutique hotel with lots of white everywhere in the room and black everywhere else. I did not try the restaurant but from the […] enticing menu, it would be a good place to try out in the mid price range. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Boutique hotel but no AC"

"AWESOME location, TERRIBLE front desk man"
This hotel is in the heart of the city! Wed stay here again just for this reason. We had easy access to bars, restaurants, shopping areas and only a 15 min walk to pier 39. It is a very old building but the rooms are newly renovated and decorated in a modern style which is nice. Don't expect air conditioning.... but we slept comfortably since It doesn't […] really get hot in SF. The only real downfall to this hotel is prob their front desk personnel. A certain receptionist (a man of probably Indian descent) first put us in a room that's right next to a dumpster area so we couldn't even open the window because of the smell. We complained about not having the first 15 channels on our television and he told us that he'll send someone up to fix it. We went out for dinner and came back only to find out that he never did anything about the problem and instead suggested us to watch TV in an unfinished bar at the back of the hotel. We spoke to a manager and requested to b moved to a different room (which was perfect) and the same man ushers us away and gives us the wrong key!!! Finally when checking out, we find out that he charged the parking fees on the card which we specifically instructed him (and he reassured us) not to use. Point blank, if u have any special requests just ask to speak to a manager. I know that these may be simple complaints to some but if ur paying almost 200$ for a room, excellent service should always be provided. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I had to change hotels at a conference for one night. I picked Mystic due to proximity. I would now have preferred to have stayed here for the whole trip. Boutique styling in old world charm, but with modern conveniences. Bar was really cool to hang out in.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel, restaurant, and bar!"
The hotel is very chic and modern. Room was large and clean. The restaurant is very good and The Burritt Room (bar on the 2nd floor) is AWESOME! It's a prohibition style speak easy with great hand crafted cocktails, a friendly staff, great live music, and upscale atmosphere. It also happens to be a local favorite. Josh & Blake are awesome bar tenders, […] combined with great libations, music, and munchies; make for a great time. Please note that the hotel does not have central air conditioning, however it does have heaters and large ceiling fans. Love the Mystic! Can't wait to go back next year... Thank you! "Great location but..."
Great location within walking distance to a lot of other great locations (China town, Union Square). The complimentary breakfast was good and it was nice not having to go anywhere to eat, but...the fan in my room made a lot of noise at full speed and the dimmer didin't work so it was full speed or nothing. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
As this was our first experience in the Mystic, I had no excessive expectations especially after reading the countless reviews, mostly from complaining Americans, about the faults with this hotel. As it's a boutique hotel with a 3 star rating, I expected as much and just hoped it was clean and quiet. This place took me by surprise as not only is it […] centrally located within the nucleus of San Francisco's shopping mecca, Union Square, but there are countless restaurants for the picking; including the delicious Mexican restaurant out the door from the Mystic called, Taqueria Mesa or something like that. As for the hotel itself, the new manager, who was female, was very courteous and obliging in every way possible. She made sure every single person was taken care of even in the hustle and bustle of breakfast time. All other staff were also friendly and helpful with any toiletries we required. The breakfast consisted of oatmeal, pastries, fruit, cereal, coffee, tea, juice and yogurts. It filled me up and loved it. The rooms are small and quaint without any views with basic amenities. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. There isn't an air conditioner but, since it's SF, you don't need one although they do have a ceiling fan and window to open. Yes, the lift is slow but, get over it and wait or climb the stairs as it's a good workout and there aren't many. Bottomline: Don't expect the Four Seasons. I would certainly stay at the Mystic again as it was a cool spot. Thanks! :) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful Hotel in the center of downtown SF"
The staff at Mystic was the friendliest staff I have ever met, they were ready to respond to my needs, gave me a free drink and never complained with my constant pestering calls. The room and hotel itself were beautiful and decorated in an old bordello style. The only complaint I have about the place is the walls were thin so in the morning I couldn't […] sleep through the people stomping down the stairs (starting at 7 a.m. with the free breakfast). This hotel is excellent on all levels except quietness. The bed is comfy. The room is clean. But come 5 in the morning you will be jolted out of bed either by the dump trucks or the noise from breakfast in the bar. Make sure to get a room high up if you don't mind stairs.Genuine Expedia guest review
I think the room we had (booked through Hotels.com for what looked like a good deal) was probably the smallest room of the hotel. Sink in bedroom (not bathroom) is inconvenient. Small room with double bed - clean and comfortable. However, the two windows overlooked a dirty, dingy alleyway where the dumpster truck came in at 5 AM the first morning. VERY […] noisy! And the empty bottle disposal was done in the alley the second morning at 5 AM. Not very pleasant. The location is really good; staff all nice. Breakfast was good too, especially when in the restaurant. The first morning was in the bar area for some reason and very crowded. But I take issue with their description of " city view" from each room if they mean a dirty alley! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
