The rooms were small but clean. Because the shower curtain was too short, the bathroom floor would be completely soaked after showering. The breakfast buffet was surprisingly well done and hot coffee plentiful. The only real issue was that there was a band playing (?) extremely loudly until 1:00 AM in the second floor bar area which caused us a well […] deserved nights sleep. the room was very small, but the bed comfortable and good quality linens; good location for walking and catching public transportation. the hallways were a little dark and the elevator a bit iffy, but overall a very nice downtown hotel. the concierge was extremely helpful and friendly. also, a great complimentary breakfast, which is unusual in this […] kind of boutique hotel, and a nice on- site bar. price was reasonable for a room downtown. "Great gem of a hotel!"
My husband and I stayed at the Mystic and loved it! It was very conveniently located in Union Square - we like to walk and it was easy to grab transportation on the trolleys and from the hotel to the BART stop (airport) is only a few blocks away. We took full advantage of the breakfast buffet every morning - which is better than most hotel buffets! […] Everyone at the front desk went out of their way to make suggestions and greet us pleasantly. The only minor issues we had were the construction going on in the hotel at the end of the corridor near our room and the inability to open the room's windows or turn up the AC. The room was a little stuffy, but the bed was very comfortable and all other amenities were great. To people who complain about small rooms - that is what you will get when you stay in historic buildings in major cities and maybe the boutique hotel experience is not for you. For us, the hotel was a great place to crash, eat breakfast, and catch a drink at the upstairs lounge before turning in and doing it all over again the next day. Ocerall I enjoyed my stay. It was located withing walking distance to my job as well as close to many eateries. A little noisy due to the Tavern downstairs and homeless people in the alleyway below, but overall, a clean nice hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Love the place!"
The hotel is beautiful, artfully appointed, and located within walking distance to some great restaurants, bars, and China Town. We were only there one night, after a week in the wine country, but we were treated like royalty by the staff! The rooms were clean and the bed super comfy. There's definitely street noise (we were on the fifth floor in an […] exterior street facing room) but it did not bother us a bit. Have a couple of specially crafted cocktails with Shawn at the hotel bar before bed and you will sleep like a baby! I probably spoke with at least a half a dozen staff from the front desk, to the door person, to maintenance and every single person went above and beyond to help in any way needed. I was amazed! The ONLY potential downfall I can see is the wait for the one and only elevator, but with such friendly people surrounding you while you wait, and the complimentary lemon water in the lobby, it is really a non issue. AND you can always take the stairs! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Such a sweet little place!"
I stayed here while traveling for work and I plan to make this my staple hotel. The location is very central and close to the highway, so that's a plus, however the hood is noisy and the hotel is old. If you're traveling for work, I strongly recommend to request a quiet room. Overall the staff is very accommodating and genuine, and the free breakfast […] in the morning is second to none. Plus, that same cafe at night becomes an ideal spot for a nightcap! "Great Boutique Hotel; Great Location, Awesome Find"
The hotel was a great surprise. The rooms and decor were well appointed and nicely remodeled. Our room as comfortable. The rooms don't have A/C, but since the weather in SF is always mild and cool, you really didn't notice it at all. The Burrit Room is a great place for a cocktail in the afternoon - live music on certain days. The cocktails are unique […] and the servers knowledgeable. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I stayed at Mystic for five days to attend a conference for work. Every night when I returned from work, I was personally greeted by the front desk receptionist who asked how my day went. When I needed my boarding pass, the front desk took care of it. When I needed a shuttle, the front desk took care of it. All the employees with whom I interacted - […] from the servers at the bar/restaurant to the house keepers - were very polite, attentive, and helpful, bar none. I never fill out these surveys, but decided to take the time to do this one because I had a nice stay due to the personalized service and want to compliment all the staff. I will return! The Mystic is located in the heart of SF. I would highly recommend this hotel for people who like beautiful, boutique hotels with the same amenities of big name hotels. The morning breakfast was healthy and delicious. One drawback: We burnt up at night due to no A/C.Genuine Expedia guest review

"A good place to stay"
Mystic hotel brings value for the money. Good location, good rooms and great service. After reading the reviews I was concerned about noice, this was not at all an issue (at least in the 7th floor where I was staying). The only minor things, the elevator is slow (but on the other side it's good excersise to take the stairs) and the breakfast is quite […] basic (but sufficient). I book here again. "Centrally located, boutique hotel, European feel"
Fun, friendly staff, room had fun lighting and a bay window. centrally located at the edge of Chinatown, International District Union Square and Civic Center, all a 15-30 minute walk. Breakfast was very good and the same every day: grapefruit/apple +/- banana, hardboiled eggs, granola/cereal/yoghurt, hot cereal, yummy mini pastries especially the mini […] chocolate croissants, sometimes still warm from the oven, and bread and jams/nutella. The crowd was friendly and from all over: Israel, Germany. .. I was on the top floor and it was quiet. Perfect hotel for couples; didn't have a great view out the window but that was inconsequential to the fantastic the proximity to union square and every store you can dream of. rooms were modernly decorated, very clean, and perfectly spacious for the city. staff was super accommodating. i read the reviews before staying here about the elevator; not […] a big deal at all...it's an elevator with a door that is not the fastest. not a big deal at all! lovely breakfast. umbrellas at the front desk if you need. would def stay again. "Good breakfast, good location , sub-par room."
The first room stunk of sewage and I had to leave. The 2nd room was OK – tiny with a window that looked out onto a break wall. The complimentary breakfast was great and so was the location. It’s fine when there are no other vacancies in the city, or when everything else is over-priced, but It wouldn’t be my first choice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel in SF"
I stayed in this hotel for a week during the conference at Moscone Center. I landed at the SFO airport, then took BART train to Powell station. The fare was $17.30 round trip. After I arrived at Powell station, I walked to the hotel, took me about 10 min. Jason and Eric were very friendly and professional during check-in and check-out. I think one of […] them was on the job training. Moscone center was about 10 min away from the hotel by walk. The breakfast was great. I liked the non-fat yogurt, fruits, and boiled eggs. Great Location, Friendly Staff, Super Clean. Old building & not very well insulated. Very noisy while sleeping at night. The bed was small (full size), hard mattress, with hard pillows. I was not expecting it to have a "Platform Bed" Mattress on top of a hard frame. No box spring. I also did not check "Yelp" as I should. Many past visitors had the same […] feedback. My mistake. The bar was nice with wonderful cocktails & good service. I am not used to sleeping in such a small & uncomfortable bed with my husband. So, I had a few bad nights of sleep. "good with the bad"
overall a good value for SF, with some good and some bad aspects. Good= Burritt Room is a hot spot and located on 2nd floor within the hotel. Bad= wireless network so slow it's unusable. Also, the one and only elevator is also so slow you'll end up walking up and down the stairs rather than wait 5 minutes every time you want a "lift"Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"a walk away from anything"
We really enjoyed the hotel. We were able to walk to almost anyplace we needed around China Town, Union Square, or Nob Hill. The bar in the hotel is great and a super stop to finish the day. "Great Location in Union Square."
The hotel staff was great. My wife and I loved the location, parking right across the street. Breakfast, that is free, has a very nice assortment of breads pastries, quiche and hand boiled eggs. The closet space is very small. If you plan on spending more than 2 days at this spot be prepaired to work out of your suitcase.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pleasant Surprise Getaway"
We enjoyed as a romantic getaway even though we live only 40 miles away. We would not have done so if it hadn't been for the Hotels.com special discount. Rooms are smaller than the average hotel but it was not a problem for us. We also had dinner downstairs (Burritt Tavern) where we have eaten before and highly recommend. The hotel is very convenient […] to just about everything - food, shopping, transportation and cab availability is not a problem. Tourists should not be deterred by the outer appearance of the building. This is truly a boutique hotel and lives up to its retro style. We had our car but never used it - we just parked across the street and was $54 from 5:30pm on Friday to 3:00pm on Sunday. Would definitely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Boutique Hotel with lots of potential"
We love quirky, boutiqe hotels with lots of character. The Mystic had it in spades-Rooms were clean and charming, but incredibly small. The hotel itself was conveniently located and cool-old elevator-we loved it! Our room would be perfect for 1 person, 2 was really pushing it. One closet, no hooks to hang wet coats or towels. We were pleasantly surprised […] at the food in the restaurant-was very good. The area's we found lacking-My husband ordered a bottle of wine and cheese plate for our arrival-telling the staff it was a 50th birthday. the wine was there (no wine glasses, had it in the standard bathroom glass), no napkins or plates and no recognition of the happy birthday he requested. Also, we were told we would have a drink coupon upon arrival, didnt receive that either. Probably the biggest disappointment was Stacy, the front desk clerk who was always there and always borderline rude. Zero customer service skills, made us feel very stupid most of the time for any questions we asked-very unfortunate-it would be the main reason we would not recommend the hotel or stay there again. The hotel is in a good central location in Union Square. For the price and location and quality I thought it was great. The room was clean, but I did notice some things that were left from the last persons who stayed in the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old building with modern twists"
It is obvious this hotel is older, but they have put a modernized twist on things. The room was quite comfortable and clean. There was what looked like new additions in the bathroom, yet you still had that old downtown San Francisco feel with the floor radiator for heat at the foot of the bed. The bed was comfy compared to a lot of hotels I have slept […] in and I was spoiled with a bunch of soft pillows. "Don't stay on the third floor."
The hotel is nice, but they really need to do something about the noise. There is a restaurant on the second floor and they play loud music until midnight, which you can hear loud and clear if your room is located on the third floor. When I called to complain about the noise around 11pm they told me "oh yeah, it's from our restaurant...it will stop […] at midnight." It makes absolutely no sense to allow music that loud when the rooms are not sound proof at all. Luckily, they moved me to the 8th floor the next day. The staff was really nice! "cute boutique hotel with a lot of noise"
Although the hotel is cute, we were upset about a few things. First, the shower curtain had small hairs on it. Second, there was a huge banging everyday at 8ish am, this made it impossible to sleep in. Third, our room was close to the elevator in stairs which we could hear the elevator and people coming all night. Other than that, the hospitality was […] great. There was a decent breakfast and the front desk was always helpful in getting us around. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Enjoyed the hotel but the downside was part of the reason we picked this place was because of the amazing bar. When we got to hotel, they told us bar was off limits because of a wedding. It would have been nice to know that before hand, it might have swayed our decision because we were looking for a place with a bar so we didnt have to leave hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Really nice, clean and cozy: staff very plesaant and helpful; professional behavior. "Nice hotel close to Union Square"
We had a very enjoyable stay at the Mystic Hotel. If I hadn't read other reviews, I might not have booked this, as from the outside, you can't tell how nice it is. The locale is wonderful - near Union Square and not far from Chinatown. I arrived early and since the room was ready, they let me check in. I loved the decor in our room - grey walls, white […] trim and dark wood furniture. It was mix of vintage and modern. Everything was extremely clean and looked as if it had been recently updated. The continental breakfast was great - yogurt, fruit, hard boiled eggs, cereal , toast, mini quiches, coffee, tea, orange juice... Free Wi Fi was also included. I would definitely stay here again. "Great Location, But Needs Work"
Mystic Hotel is a small, boutique hotel close to most everything, including public transit, but it has the acoustics of an opera house and street noise (especially construction noise) is amplified, which is incredibly unpleasant in the early morning hours. "nice hotel close to heart of SF"
Very nice hotel, especially for price. But the internet in my room never worked properly and despite repeated complaints, I never did get reliable connectivity. "Mystic Hotel in SF a hidden jewel"
Superb location 1 block from Union square, bargain parking across the street at half the price SF hotels usually charge. Very stylish hotel in a fine location, close to everything. The bar (and also breakfast room) is very appealing with its large-scale b&w photos and real art on the walls. The place was perfect. The location could not have been better with it being walking distance to union square and multitudes of other fun places in SF.
