Hotel Features. Dining is truly a treat at Hotel de la Montagne, commencing with the bistro-style Les Beaux Jeudis that serves classic French cuisine. Le Lutetia further explores the tastes of France and is open daily for breakfast and Sunday brunch. Despite its name, Thursday Bar is open daily and offers Mediterranean dishes for lunch and dinner. This popular nightspot offers dancing. Terrasse serves cocktails, grilled specialties and accepts patrons from late Spring through early Autumn. The hotel features a rooftop pool with a swim-up bar and views of Montreal's scenic cityscape.

Guestrooms. Hotel de la Montagne offers 142 guestrooms and suites with nine different room styles on each floor. Custom wood furnishings are complemented by rich fabrics and Renaissance décor. All rooms include balconies with city views. Select accommodations feature minibars, marble bathrooms with bathrobes and slippers, jetted tubs and canopy beds.

Expert Tip. Les Beaux Jeudis features the talents of a joke-wielding magician who unleashes quick wit and performs slick tableside tricks.

Their recommendations of places to eat/hang out were just what we were looking for. Great place for a weekend in the city, you are right in the middle of it all. One great suprise, even though the hotel is right by Crescent St, the room was really quiet!

We enjoyed the amenities both in the room and at the lobby. The happy hour specials were great for a warm up to the night on the town. The staff are very courteous and were willing to help with any question we had. Our French was rusty but the staff spoke English just as well. This is a nicely renovated older hotel in the center of Montreal. Very trendy area. The problem some may have is that the pool and bar on the roof, while both pretty, are open tot he public. This meant they were packed with 20-30 year olds every day from 1130 when they open until 1am. This tied up the elevators. You have immediate access from the lobby (youcut into the line as a guest of hotel) but if you need to leave your floor there is often quite a wait for an elevator. Also, not having any ice machine was a problem.

We stayed here with the intention of enjoying downtown Montreal and it fit the bill. We were close to St. Catherine's street and Cresent street - probably two of the most important streets in downtown if you're into nightlife. The roof pool/bar is awesome for happy hour, great people watching. The rooms are neat, quiet and comfortable.

Our room was attractive and well-appointed. Our stay would have been great if the nighttime noise level had been acceptable. We were there on Friday and Saturday evenings. The noise of enthusiastic twenty-somethings going to and from the rooftop lounge was noticeable until about 2 AM. The sound from the hallway and the elevator passed easily through our room's door and was really distracting. The pool/lounge on the top floor is open to the general public except for a few hours in the morning when it's reserved for hotel guests. It's not a quiet spot for a cocktail and an evening swim. A four start rating seems rather generous given that unavoidable distraction.

Originally I discovered this hotel retty much by accident. The first time I went to the Montreal Jazz Fest back in 2000, one of my friends booked the rooms for us after he found it doing an internet search. We knew nothing about the hotel or even the city of Montreal for that matter. Turns out that the hotel is located just one short block from the intersection that is the heart of the city's entertainment district along Crescent Street (or Rue de Crescent to the locals ... it's important to remember all signage is in French as required by city ordinance). Along with numerous restaurants, bars, and clubs, Crest is the site of Montreals 'Hard Rock Cafe'. And one half block south is the main commercial thoroughfare Boulevard St. Catherine. There's a popular department store called Ogilvy's located right on the corner. So you can do alot right in walking distance. The rest of downtown is about 1 mile down St Catherine or if you go 2 blocks north Sherbrooke is another main street that is the home of McGill University located at the foot of Mont Royal. Which brings me to another great aspect about the location. "Montagne" is the French word for mountain & you'll see why the hotel is named as such when you look up the street ... you'll be looking right at the side of the mountain ... it's just a wall of green about 1/2 mile or so to the north. But a better view of the mountain is found right at the hotel itself. Take the elevator to the top floor and you'll find one of the best panoramas of downtown Montreal and the surrounding areas. In the evening the sun sets directly behind the mountain. The rooftop club is called Terrasse Magnetique wich has a dining area and bar at the top floor. Walk one flight up to the pool which has a sundeck and a smaller bar with with coktail tables & stools at the bar. It's one of the most popular places in the city in the summer months for Montrealers. When the weather is good the line for the elevators to get to the roof start early

Our king size bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious with a separate shower and bath, big double sink vanity and radiant heater which was so nice to stand under after a shower. The people behind the reception desk were very helpful and all spoke English. We got a great recommendation for restaurant Europea which was a few mins walk from the hotel. It exceeded expectaions. We had the most incredible $56 prix fix menu which I rank as one of my top 5 meals of all time (and I've been to several of the top 10 restaurants in the world). So I highly recommend it. They brought us so many extra tastings between each course that we were thoroughly stuffed by the end. The hotel itself was lovely. Given the price, it definitely met my expectations. It wasn't fancy schmancy or ultra modern. But tasteful and refined and seemed like it was a little worn, but well loved. At the end of the day, it's a place to sleep and relax, and I felt I could do that adequately there. The pool on the rooftop was awesome, although a little smaller than I expected. It's open to guests only until 11:30am, and then open to the public from 11:30am. I was lucky to get the last lounge chair 2 days in a row. The place quickly became packed by lunchtime with young, beautiful locals. Music was pumping over the speakers, there's a bar and restaurant and the view is great. I relaxed by the pool for 6+ hours 2 days in a row (and was 6 mths pregnant). And I loved it. I'd never been to a pool with such a great atmosphere. I would love to have tried the jugs of sangria but stuck to ginger ale instead. Only downside was that the free wireless that you get in the rooms does not get a signal on the roof. It would have been nice to have checked my email on my iPod Touch while lazing by the pool, but then again I probably can't relax if I'm constantly checking email. Overall, I had a great stay. The hotel was perfect for our needs (romantic getaway for a few days) and the location was great. I would

Comprehensive services: bar, lounge, restaurants, French bistros, etc. Nice, charming and well-adorned lobby area. Not your typical, generic mass-market hotel. Nice, friendly and helpful staff. They are all bi-lingual. Couldn't hurt if you start off with a couple of nice French greeting words, like Bonjour! or Bonsoir! and Merci! Maid/turn-down service was fully satisfactory. I did not use housekeeping or room service at all during my 5-day stay. Gym is not in the hotel, but still convenient, as they have agreement with a nice gym (Nautilus Plus), down the block and around the corner on Rue Ste-Catherine. For small fee, can get a day pass. Need to bring own towel. I did not see or use the rooftop pool because it was closed due to the rainy weather, so I have no opinion about that. Parking is additional fee. Suggest leaving car in garage for duration of stay especially during festival/celebration/holiday times, when downtown will be packed. My balcony view faced the block in back of the hotel, which was Crescent Street. In-room movies were just a bit pricey, I felt.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was great. The room was the color of nicotine (although not a result of smoke) and the furniture was a shade of green (not appealing). The bathroom was great, modern (marble), roomey and appeared new. Lighting was not good for applying makeup. Losts of odds and ends were provided. The bedding was wonderful and the bed quite comfortable. For the price if was good. However, I'd expected something bright and contempory.

This also meant the lift was always packed and we had to wait ten minutes each time to reach our room. staff tells me someone once threw a chair off the roof (20th floor)...the food on the roof top is not very fresh but the cocktails were nice. the room was very lovely and clean and spacious. the air conditioning was very loud. like a helicopter really.
