"Nice but not good enough (service)"
Lovely villas directly at the beach, spectacular views, quiet and relaxing pool area. Several things didn't work (hotel is getting a bit long in the tooth) and overall service is only average especially having stayed in a villa where prices are higher and more attentive service would be expected.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

On the beach, service there wasn't that great, not enough beach chairs, food was gross. The staff isn't trained to give you a towel and make sure you have a chair and order drinks/food (what you would normally get in a 4/5 star hotel). The pools are bad except the one by the skybar. The hotel is nice, the rooms are great and spacious but the beach was […] a true disappointment. They did however have Free Wifi and lovely looking villas and a spa. "Beautiful resort on the beach. Very relaxing"
Hotel accommodations were fantastic. More than I expected. Service from staff was very prompt and courteous. Used the hotel driver and cars for 2 day trips. Excellent service, but a bit pricey. Kids club was fantastic. Staff excellent and very good with children. Only negative- spa was very expensive and not a good value. I used the spa at the neighboring […] property (Sunset Beach) for half the money and it was fantastic. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"not bad, but can be improved in many details"
The stay was quite pleasing. However the facilities in the room kept breaking down: the lamps near the sofas in the living room were unable to be turned on for the first night. On the third day, the air-con in the living room was not working. Plus, the wash-basin in the bathroom to the main bedroom was leaking from day one. When we called, the hotel […] sent their maintenance guy to the room soon enough, but it took them a lot of time to fix the problems. The hotel is located to the other side of the island, fairly quiet, but not very convenient if you want to shop on the main street. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Overall regarding Taling Naam"
You enter the IC Taling Naam resort from the gate in the morning (if your flight is a morning one), and your car drives up the hill. You enter the reception, and then you see the most panoramic beautiful cliff view you would probably ever see. The coconut palm trees, the white sand beach, the lush vegetation.. You do your check-in, and you look forward […] to get in your room, change and get down to the beach. The you ask the receptionist whether it is safe to swim in the ocean or not. And you get the bad news. It is not possible to swim here. There are too many rocks, corals, that a comfortable level of ocean bathing is almost not possible. Unless you want to submerge yourself in the 30 cm deep of sandy part of water and sit down there for a while... One option is to get in from the platform on the deeper part of the ocean, but depends on your comfort level with the ocean. If you are in for the swimming, sea bathing, better to look for another hotel/destination. Other than this, you will find out that the service and English level of staff is very challenged here. Moreover, you will find out that the excursions, transfers that the hotel is selling (with outside providers) are not fairly priced by the hotel. We paid the hotel 2300 baht for an excursion that costs 1500 baht if you buy it in Chaweng city centre (same excursion with same company). the difference does not hurt, but the idea of getting ripped off does not feel good. "Great Hotel With Nice Sea View & Exclusive Beach"
I would highly recommend this hotel for family or couple who seeks tranquility. An excellent hotel with very clean rooms and great sea view. I stayed in the guest room with sea view for my first night and moved to the beach pool villa the next day. The transition was smooth and I did not have to wait in the lobby. For the villa, we were assigned a personal […] butler who took care of us during our stay. Hotel can help arrange for transport to and fro to airport (chargeable). The travel time is appr. 45 mins. The hotel is only 15 mins away from the safari. There are good family activities you can do at the safari. Eg, 30 mins to 1 hr ride on an elephant in the jungle, 20 mins hiking to the top of the waterfall, taking pics with tigers, various animals shows (the most thrilling one is the crocodile show), taking a ride on top of a jeep. etc etc. In addition, the hotel was very accommodating and they even allowed us to have a late check-out at 4pm (subject to room availability) due to our late evening departure flight. Staff was polite and most speak basic English. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Awesome Hotel but services to be improved"
Magnificent seaview room and beautiful sunset. However, it'll be awesome if the staff pay more attention to their guests. It takes effort to get the staff attention for menu, food ordering, etc. Buggy service can also be improved (higher frequency). We waited 10 mins to get one from the beach to the lobby.Genuine Expedia guest review
We loved this hotel and it was everything we hoped it would be after following reviews of it for 6 months. Staff were friendly and always tried very hard to be helpful. The Premier Ocean view room was very spacious and worth the extra cost. The hotel is remote but this is why we chose it, however the hotel does provide free transport to Chaweng daily. "Excellent, highly recommended!!!"
It was a truly fantastic experience. From our arrival until our departure, the staff took extremely good care of us, and went out of their way to help and make us feel welcome and comfortable. The hotel itself is not new but has been thoroughly renovated and the standards are very high, even for InterConti ones. There is an uncompromising attention […] to detail, from the toiletries (amazing quality) to the linen; from the food (I had the best steak ever at Flames restaurant - and I know about steaks, I'm from Argentina!) to the choice of pillow; from the cocktails, to the massages at the spa. The manager was very hands on, and interacted with guests; listened to suggestions and made himself available if needed. I also took two comlplimentary classes- yoga and Thai boxing, both thoroughly enjoyable. We would definitely recommend it and look forward to coming back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"excellent hotel in a remote location"
We spent 3 nights at the Intercontinental samui in April. The hotel is brand new, rooms are superb. We chose the ocean view suite which happens to be the best room category on the upper level of the villas. The beach front suites are not worth the price as they have no privacy and can be accessed by guests walking around the pool area. Food in the […] hotel is above average. We had dinner at a near by restaurant called Five Island which was superb. They come to pick you up and offer a drop off from the hotel lobby. A room away from the main building is recommended. The hotel lobby by the way has one of the best views overlooking the ocean. One small problem we faced was the wireless internet which never worked in the villas. The hotel is 45 minutes from the airport and there is nothing much to do in the area. We stayed at the six senses for another 4 nights and I would recommend the intercontinental over the 6s!! that too for half the price. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

-> generelles Problem in Asien).
"Less than expected"
01/27/15 Travelette2012 Vienna, Austria
Given the fact that this ressort holds a Certificate of Excellence 2014 by Tripadvisor and various World Travel Awards, our expectations were very high..maybe too high indeed. We spent 11 nights at one of the beach front villas and were somewhat disappointed. Positives: The location is wonderful and more off the beaten track on the southern tip of Koh Samui. The views are excellent. The staff is (as everywhere in Thailand!) very attentive, super friendly and seamless. WiFi is inclusive and for free. The food at Amber restaurant is (overpriced but) of high quality. Negatives: The whole ressort seamed a bit wear & tear to us (e.g. holes and staints in tableclothes, napkins and poolside towels | wooden floor panels and wooden handrails falling apart). Access to the beach from the beach-front villas was not well considered. Food at the Flames restaurant was not always prepared as described. The beach is neither very well suited for swimming (too much sea weed) nor for surfing (coral reef right underneath the water surface). All prices within the ressort are super exaggerated and do not in any way reflect the actual price level in Thailand. We often encountered prices even above Western European level, which is just too much. CONCLUSION: A good ressort a bit long in the tooth with way to exaggerated prices. Nothing special really.
"Nice property, service hit and miss, awesome views, odd response to accident on property"
01/25/15 antonius66 Wherever the cheap fares take me
As I finally get around to writing reviews for my Thailand trip, I am super torn about how to review this property. There are some big positives and some negatives that left me with a sour taste. Overall, it was a very nice property and was on balance, very good. Most of the staff were very friendly, although English was not super strong here outside of the foreign staff, and despite being friendly, several of the staff were not actually very helpful or useful. To be fair, a lot (but NOT all) of my negative sentiment is specific to my situation, so it would only be partially fair to weight it as heavily into a star rating for other people making a decision. In summation, if I were to remove my negative experiences, I would give it 4*, but given the totality of my experience, I give it 3*. First off, this is one of the farthest properties from the airport in USM, so you will either want to rent a car or get a taxi. I HIGHLY recommend renting a car, as the resort is FAR (as far as it can be from the arrival spot on this island which is not huge, but not tiny either, especially given the small, slow roads). Getting to the resort is a good 45 min drive, and it is a little hard to find given the signage (we had to turn around a few times, even with maps because some of the turn offs from the road lack proper signage to get you to the actual resort). A car is also hugely helpful to go to other restaurants and such around, which you will want to do if you are there for more than a day or two. Second, the resort itself is overall very pretty and the grounds are well maintained. The view from the lobby is spectacular. Here is the first point that I credit +stars to the resort. We stayed on a point stay and had booked a 2 bedroom villa during what was apparently some kind of mistake by IHG on their site, at least that is what I found out later. The hotel honored the reservation without any kind of hassle or argument, which is the correct and proper thing to do, even though some chains/hotels would not. I give them credit for that. That being said, it is also in their best interest, because the hotel was nowhere near full and it really costs 0 to give us a nice villa because it would have been empty anyway, and typically you earn revenue from the guests just being on the property (which they did in our case). Third, our room was very large and spacious. The 2 bedroom villas are around 2300 sq ft and generally have spectacular views, although I did feel like we got one of the more run down villas from looking around at some of the others. The interior was very nice, but there were definitely a few noticeable touches that were required. The fixtures, the walls, the décor, etc, need a bit of maintenance, updating etc. I wonder if they assigned the same room to all the "mistake" bookings? I am surely being overly conspiratorial, and in any case, the room was still excellent anyway to be quite honest. A magnificent view and extremely spacious. The master bathroom was a good size with a great tub and I loved the bath product, especially the brown rice soap (LOVED IT...I wanted to loot like 100 bars from housekeeping to take home!). Big negative there though was that the wifi did NOT work in the master bedroom or barely at all in the upstairs. It only worked reliably in the 2nd bedroom and despite asking THREE times over the stay to have it addressed, and being assured each time someone was coming to check on it, it was never fixed. Honestly, if I have to ask THREE times for something like that and it is never fixed, that is a pretty big service failure. Fourth, here is the crux of the main issue for us. While checking into the room, and being shown around, my mother slipped on the stairs going down to the bedroom and slid all the way down the stairs on her back. The staff member who was showing us the room and the housekeeper who was still cleaning were both present and watched the whole thing, and in fact the staff member himself even told us that he "slips all the time" on the stairs. The stairs were slick and its only made worse by the prohibition on wearing shoes in the room. Now, the problem here is not so much that the accident occurred, as the response later. No one called to check up on us. When I finally had to call myself and ask about an ice pack and heating pad, neither was available. To be fair, they did offer to have a nurse or someone come check on her, but at first she just wanted to some ice and to come down from the shock. It seemed odd to me that no one called to check up on us, especially since I am sure they reported the incident. Fifth, breakfast was very solid, and we decided to pay for the buffet each day, since it was not included in our room and it was a convenient and excellent spread. The price was decent for a quality hotel breakfast and I received 25% off (I think) as a Platinum Ambassador...or maybe it was just because of the Ambassador part, or maybe just the Platinum part, who knows, I forget. Either way, it was pretty good and I think was about $25 USD per person per day. The temperature however was consistently uncomfortable eating breakfast, as the AC was very poor in the room, which was only made worse by the fact that they kept open 2 large doors for a non existent breeze. Eating outside was not better, as it was hotter and muggier and ended up leaving someone in our party with the sun beating down on them. Sixth, my mother decided to take advantage of the spa facilities for a little treatment after her injury and even treated my wife as well. The spa was apparently very nice per them, which is good considering you can easily get quality massage and spa services in Thailand for a FRACTION of what you pay at the resort's spa...and I mean a small fraction. Despite only using 100000 points (which is still worth about $800) for the room, we still ended up spending about $900+ USD for food and spa treatments at the hotel over 4 days. A pretty good trade for the hotel considering the hotel was almost empty (I know since housekeeping left a guest roster on the ground in front of my room). Finally, upon check out, I had honestly figured that we would receive some kind of goodwill gesture resulting from a guest slipping and falling and injuring themselves on the property through no fault of their own. I figured perhaps a small gesture like one of our spa treatments taken off, or breakfast being free one day, or a 10 or 15% discount on everything, points being credited back, etc. I never asked for anything and did not even really complain about anything during the week, as I just expected at a property of this caliber, that something would be done automatically. Also, we honestly were not angling for anything like that, we just wanted to enjoy the stay, which overall we did. The property was very nice overall, and we had a great stay and a beautiful property with great views (not a great place for snorkeling though in my opinion). Well, I checked out and nothing. No goodwill gesture, discount, nothing. It honestly left me kind of sour on the experience just because it seemed like a major customer service failure, liability issues, etc aside. Maybe they figured honoring a confirmed and guaranteed reservation made on their website for a nicer room through IHG's mistake while the resort was nearly empty anyway was generous enough. Who knows. At any rate, we still really enjoyed the stay and the property and Ko Samui in general.
"Great Place to Escape"
I have visited the Intercon Koh Samui 3 times now and each time it has gotten better. If I had written this 3 years ago it would have been such a different review. It all started prior to arriving, I realised that we were going to arrive in Koh Samui late and it was my daughters birthday. We were planing to go out for dinner but decided against it but I still wanted to try and do something special for her. I decided to contact the hotel and to my delight they said that they would organised a cake. On arrival check in was smooth and efficient and due to my IHG status we had been upgraded to a beach villa which is located on the bottom level of the hotel near the pool. They even had the extra bed set up which at many hotels takes ages to request and have set up. The rooms are beautifully appointed with a massive bathroom, spa, outdoor shower, private pool and sun lounge. To get to the restaurant on the upper level you need to get one of the golf buggies or walk the path which has a really cool suspension bridge which feels like you are in the jungle and I told my son that we could hear monkeys. If you are not fit, it is tough going up or just take your time The executive chef had changed breakfast was similar but seem to lack the choices from the prior year and drinking coconuts were no longer part of the breakfast. In saying that it was still very good. The hotel is quite isolated but this is what we wanted to relax and chill out for a few days before heading off to the hustle and bustle of Chaweng. This year we did not eat in the hotel for dinner as we had a car, if you don't have transport there are a couple of good options in the hotel, a local place a stroll up the beach or the French place in the small town.
"Room with a view"
A beautiful property, although slightly rough around the edges, in a beautiful location with every room I understand to have an ocean view. Our room unfortunately had an obstructed view of the 5 islands which was odd especially as all the bells were rung by the check in staff about giving us the best room with the best view. The hotel was far from full so I expect that the check in staff are the sadly usual Thai 5 star robot, repeating corporate prose rather than saying truth with any meaning, such a shame at this place. The rooms are adequate and what you might expect from a property of this standard, nothing more than that, but unfortunately directly outside our patio was an expanse of dead and rotting foliage which really should have been seen to before we were checked into this room, we were only staying for one night so didn't bother moving. We also had to pass a constantly opened industrial housekeeping corridor to get to our room from the pool, nothing at all lux looking into that corridor I can assure you! The beach is nothing to write home about so if it's a fabulous beach and sea that you're looking for this is certainly not the place. Wonderful pool upstairs close to an equally wonderful Air Bar where we spent the evening watching the sunset over the five islands beyond. We had a slight issue with the food at the air bar. A yummy Japanese menu from which we tried a couple of delicious dishes one of which was so good we decided to order again when we revisited the bar later that night. Unfortunately we were presented with the same sushi dish but which was prepared oh so differently, miles apart from the same dish we ordered earlier, we actually ended up feeding it to the lucky local kitten who befriended us. I don't know if they had changed the chef in the hours that had passed between our visit but whatever the reason it shouldn't have happened in a restaurant of this apparent quality. Having reached elite status with a rival hotel chain we were looking at moving to IHC as being the next group of choice for us. Being extremely frequent travellers we are always searching for the next wonderful place to stay at and to return to. We come to Thailand every year for a month or so and stayed for one night with the prospect of potentially coming back in a few weeks. We will continue to give IHC another chance but more than likely it will be at another hotel.
"One of the 1000 places to see before you die"
We stayed here for 2 weeks in a 2 bedroom Club Villa with our 2 children (23 & 9) . We had a unforgettable beautiful time. The view is absolutely stunning... The air bar the most beautiful place to be at. WE were pampered by the staff . Everybody so friendly ...so kind always smiling... The Villas are beautifully furnished, lovely restaurants, FANTASTIC Breakfast Buffet and VERY good food . Our daughter had lots of fun at the kids Club . We actually never saw her, she was busy :-))). The Beach is VERY nice. The only thing that was sad , was the Beach beyond the Hotel that was not so clean. A pity that Thai Government lets this happen ... WE will definately be back.
"Its not Bad, but can be Improved."
Well I must say, its one of the good properties I have stayed. There are few bads. I would not mention Goods, as they are not exceptional. I would recommend this Hotel, but I am not insisting, if you know what I mean. 1. Steam bath has to be pre-booked & chargeable. Big downer for me. 2. Staff at Amber is exhausted & needs to be shuffled regularly. 3. Inability to serve Hot coffee. They serve room temperature coffee. 4. English problem. The (few) staff use it well, as an excuse for a mistake. 5. Rain Shower in ceiling needs to be checked regularly. 6. Breakfast : No Indian food at all. I would highly recommend the InterContinental, to start Complimentary Pick & Drop to Airport, if they want a magical increase in their Ratings.

We were here for a close friends wedding and had all expectations exceeded. After spending 5 nights in Chaweng this place was a welcome change with sweeping costal views, 5 star everything and the most attentive service I've experienced in Asia. The lobby is the first view which cuts across the Taling Ngam coast with a warm welcome and refreshing drink before being escorted to your ocean front room. Pictures probably don't do the justice this place deserves but the high expectations we had were met. King size bed was dreamy and being able to shower with a view of the ocean was very fun! Infinity pool has a fully functional bar you can access whilst still in the water and beach access is only 5 meters away. There's no adults only area so the children are pretty much welcome everywhere. The other pool has an infinity spa that will make it hard to get dry. Dining options are abundant and serve up everything from authentic thai cuisine to european 9 course degustation menus. The breakfast buffet is like no other with 3 chefs on stand bye to cook your eggs to order with any morning meal ready for you to select. Espresso coffee is include (not standard in most resorts). Be sure to have a cocktail on the Air deck which is listed on 100 things to do before you die in the NY Times. High price tag but certainly a product exchanged to my satisfaction. Taling Ngam is a good 40 minute taxi from Chaweng and the local shops are not easily accessable (you will be transported around the resort via golf buggy) but short cab rides can be arranged if you need anything. Recommended for couples and small families wishing to relax and soak up the best hospitality and views Koh Samui has to offer. Oh, one more thing.... there is an ice cream bar!

This was our first time to Ko Samui and we were enthralled by the beauty and surroundings at Intercontinental. We stayed here in Dec before moving on to Bangkok for New Years, wishing that we had a couple of days more. The property is extremely beautiful with an outstanding view. Our room was spacious with a balcony, overlooking the sea. Though the resort has multiple pools, we visited the infinity pool by the beach. The bar, play area, kiddies room, pool and beach are all convenient located next to each other. Apart from the golf carts, you can also use the wooden bridge to get from the rooms to the pool and beach, which the kids enjoyed. The hotel arranged for a day trip to the islands, lagoons, along with snorkelling, which was a terrific experience. One again the beauty of the islands must be seen to be believed. Would definitely love to visit and stay here again.
The hotel is located on a mountain. We had a room in the main building which gave nice panoramic views. To get to the beach you need to walk down about 120 steps which I liked. Alternatively you can call a hotel buggy to go to beach from the lobby and back. The buggy usually comes within a few minutes (and there seem to be plenty of them), so we did not need to wait long for it. The sea is not very clear, there are sea weeds and rocks. I have injured by foot by stepping on one of such rocks. Many people prefer to use one of the pools. We have eaten primarily in the hotel. We preferred the Thai restaurant next to the lobby as well as the bar (where they serve nice sushi/sashimi). The restaurant at the beach we did not like - the Tom Yum soup there had no "yum", forgive the pun. There is nothing around the hotel, some local restaurants are ok for a change but not great - you need to walk about 300-500 meters along the beach to get to them. The food at the resort is fairly pricey. At breakfast they make freshly squeezed juices from different fruits - this is really nice. It is quite pricey to get to the towns nearby or the airport by hotel car. They refuse to call a regular taxi, but would do so if you are persistent enough. It is possible to rent a scooter or a car. We have not used the water sports but enjoyed the massage (both at the beach as well as in the spa). Overall it was quite enjoyable as you'd expect in Thailand. Staff does not speak good English, some are not even trying. There is one significant issue which I did not appreciate given that we were paying about USD 600 per night - there have been large holes in the sheets. I have read the same comment in other review so assume that this is not an isolated case and the management does not care a bit. Furthermore, the towels you get at the poolside or on the beach are so bad, I am not sure how many years they might have been used, but this is a disgrace - they are torn and have stains on them. The sunbeds have dirty mats. All in all, I probably would not want to go back.

My husband and I have just spent 4 nights at the InterContinental Samui and it was total luxury from start to finish. There is a friendly, relaxed vibe and the beachside villa we were upgraded to was out of this world. There are panoramic ocean and rainforest views from Amber restaurant and Air Bar, the facilities are second to none and the staff are very friendly. We never waited more than 5 minutes for a buggy when we needed one and took advantage of the complimentary kayaks, paddle board and bikes to do a bit of exploring. Would also highly recommend the speedboat trip to Anthong National Park for snorkelling, a bit of climbing, views of the lagoon and series of tiny islands. Thank you for a wonderful stay and a honeymoon to remember.
