"Nice but not good enough (service)"
Lovely villas directly at the beach, spectacular views, quiet and relaxing pool area. Several things didn't work (hotel is getting a bit long in the tooth) and overall service is only average especially having stayed in a villa where prices are higher and more attentive service would be expected.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

On the beach, service there wasn't that great, not enough beach chairs, food was gross. The staff isn't trained to give you a towel and make sure you have a chair and order drinks/food (what you would normally get in a 4/5 star hotel). The pools are bad except the one by the skybar. The hotel is nice, the rooms are great and spacious but the beach was […] a true disappointment. They did however have Free Wifi and lovely looking villas and a spa. "Beautiful resort on the beach. Very relaxing"
Hotel accommodations were fantastic. More than I expected. Service from staff was very prompt and courteous. Used the hotel driver and cars for 2 day trips. Excellent service, but a bit pricey. Kids club was fantastic. Staff excellent and very good with children. Only negative- spa was very expensive and not a good value. I used the spa at the neighboring […] property (Sunset Beach) for half the money and it was fantastic. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"not bad, but can be improved in many details"
The stay was quite pleasing. However the facilities in the room kept breaking down: the lamps near the sofas in the living room were unable to be turned on for the first night. On the third day, the air-con in the living room was not working. Plus, the wash-basin in the bathroom to the main bedroom was leaking from day one. When we called, the hotel […] sent their maintenance guy to the room soon enough, but it took them a lot of time to fix the problems. The hotel is located to the other side of the island, fairly quiet, but not very convenient if you want to shop on the main street. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Overall regarding Taling Naam"
You enter the IC Taling Naam resort from the gate in the morning (if your flight is a morning one), and your car drives up the hill. You enter the reception, and then you see the most panoramic beautiful cliff view you would probably ever see. The coconut palm trees, the white sand beach, the lush vegetation.. You do your check-in, and you look forward […] to get in your room, change and get down to the beach. The you ask the receptionist whether it is safe to swim in the ocean or not. And you get the bad news. It is not possible to swim here. There are too many rocks, corals, that a comfortable level of ocean bathing is almost not possible. Unless you want to submerge yourself in the 30 cm deep of sandy part of water and sit down there for a while... One option is to get in from the platform on the deeper part of the ocean, but depends on your comfort level with the ocean. If you are in for the swimming, sea bathing, better to look for another hotel/destination. Other than this, you will find out that the service and English level of staff is very challenged here. Moreover, you will find out that the excursions, transfers that the hotel is selling (with outside providers) are not fairly priced by the hotel. We paid the hotel 2300 baht for an excursion that costs 1500 baht if you buy it in Chaweng city centre (same excursion with same company). the difference does not hurt, but the idea of getting ripped off does not feel good. "Great Hotel With Nice Sea View & Exclusive Beach"
I would highly recommend this hotel for family or couple who seeks tranquility. An excellent hotel with very clean rooms and great sea view. I stayed in the guest room with sea view for my first night and moved to the beach pool villa the next day. The transition was smooth and I did not have to wait in the lobby. For the villa, we were assigned a personal […] butler who took care of us during our stay. Hotel can help arrange for transport to and fro to airport (chargeable). The travel time is appr. 45 mins. The hotel is only 15 mins away from the safari. There are good family activities you can do at the safari. Eg, 30 mins to 1 hr ride on an elephant in the jungle, 20 mins hiking to the top of the waterfall, taking pics with tigers, various animals shows (the most thrilling one is the crocodile show), taking a ride on top of a jeep. etc etc. In addition, the hotel was very accommodating and they even allowed us to have a late check-out at 4pm (subject to room availability) due to our late evening departure flight. Staff was polite and most speak basic English. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Awesome Hotel but services to be improved"
Magnificent seaview room and beautiful sunset. However, it'll be awesome if the staff pay more attention to their guests. It takes effort to get the staff attention for menu, food ordering, etc. Buggy service can also be improved (higher frequency). We waited 10 mins to get one from the beach to the lobby.Genuine Expedia guest review
We loved this hotel and it was everything we hoped it would be after following reviews of it for 6 months. Staff were friendly and always tried very hard to be helpful. The Premier Ocean view room was very spacious and worth the extra cost. The hotel is remote but this is why we chose it, however the hotel does provide free transport to Chaweng daily. "Excellent, highly recommended!!!"
It was a truly fantastic experience. From our arrival until our departure, the staff took extremely good care of us, and went out of their way to help and make us feel welcome and comfortable. The hotel itself is not new but has been thoroughly renovated and the standards are very high, even for InterConti ones. There is an uncompromising attention […] to detail, from the toiletries (amazing quality) to the linen; from the food (I had the best steak ever at Flames restaurant - and I know about steaks, I'm from Argentina!) to the choice of pillow; from the cocktails, to the massages at the spa. The manager was very hands on, and interacted with guests; listened to suggestions and made himself available if needed. I also took two comlplimentary classes- yoga and Thai boxing, both thoroughly enjoyable. We would definitely recommend it and look forward to coming back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"excellent hotel in a remote location"
We spent 3 nights at the Intercontinental samui in April. The hotel is brand new, rooms are superb. We chose the ocean view suite which happens to be the best room category on the upper level of the villas. The beach front suites are not worth the price as they have no privacy and can be accessed by guests walking around the pool area. Food in the […] hotel is above average. We had dinner at a near by restaurant called Five Island which was superb. They come to pick you up and offer a drop off from the hotel lobby. A room away from the main building is recommended. The hotel lobby by the way has one of the best views overlooking the ocean. One small problem we faced was the wireless internet which never worked in the villas. The hotel is 45 minutes from the airport and there is nothing much to do in the area. We stayed at the six senses for another 4 nights and I would recommend the intercontinental over the 6s!! that too for half the price. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Honeymooners on January 2015"
We went to this hotel as honeymooners and the true is that in our stay everything was perfect. Since the moment you arrive to that wonderful lobby with ocean view (I must say that it is probably the best/most beautiful lobby I have ever seen) all the stuff was very nice The room was great! huge space and bathroom, and nice terrace with ocean view. Beach: […] even though we had read that the beach was awful... not true! the beach was perfect. small waves, perfect for going kayaking. There is a pier in the beach that is great to go walking and see the sunset... and you can jump from the end of it to the sea! (2 mts max) Food: Breakfast in the morning is great!! Lunch: we had lunch at the beach restaurant... good, again, a little expensive, and the foos arrived a little cold for us. Snaks; there is an Ice Cream hut... great! they made the cones! and they were delicious! Pool Bar: good, especially the "thai exotic drinks" Dinner: there is the beach restaurant and "ambar" restaurant upstairs next to the lobby. Good, again: expensive. Especially one night there was no "a la carte" only buffet... and even though the buffet was good... was ridiculously expensive! Resort in general: the resort is beautiful, is built on a hill and it goes down to the beach, so you can make your way to the beach by walking down the stairs... crossing hanging bridges (great!) or... call for a golf cart to take you to your room / villa.
Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A captivating place to stay"
03/26/15 Tim S London, United Kingdom
We stayed here for 10 days in a 'classic' room – the room was great and the view stunning. There's much to fall in love with here. The setting is beautiful, the breakfast was brilliant, and the hotel never felt busy – it's cleverly designed so that you feel you’ve plenty of space. But above all the effort of the staff to make you feel really welcome will stay with us the longest. The people who work here really seem to both enjoy their job and want to look after you the best they can. One instance, on our last night we had a late – and probably not really allowed – dip in the infinity pool. Two towels magically appeared for us... If there's one downside it's that this is a true 5-star hotel. Why's that a downside? Well we just felt on occasion that some of the pricing for Thailand was a bit over the top. Food and cocktails are mid-range London / New York prices. That's OK if the quality you're serving up is up to the same standards. In some of the restaurants, Flames, in particular, the food is pretty poor and the cocktails in the Air bar are incredibly sweet (which admittedly is kind of Thai style). Sundries such as speed boat trips, taxis, jet skis etc.. are excessively priced – local tour companies offer much greater value. By way of example, the yoga teacher here is fantastic as good as anyone we've every practiced with. But the class costs are way more than we pay in London and we were charged by the events team a 20% ‘admin fee’ every class simply for making one phone call and booking the teacher for us. The root of the issue here is that you’re in an isolated part of the island with few services other than the hotel. And it just felt that on occasion the hotel was trying ‘to make’ just a bit too obviously. We know we're lucky to be able to stay here. But no one likes to feel they’re being taken for a ride and the pricing strategy took a little of the sheen off what otherwise is an exceptionally service-focused hotel. This is something perhaps for the accountants at the Intercontinental to think about. If you eat at the hotel every day, take some classes, and use taxis etc..you can easily rack up the price of your room per day – it's worth bearing in mind. We’d prefer to pay a higher room rate and for sundry costs to be priced at two times local not five, six and often more times local rates. As I said this is a 5-star hotel so to a certain extent this comes with the territory. You also expect to pay to be in this location and on balance we do love the hotel and will book for next year. If you stay here ask the bartender to go easy on the mountains of sugar for the cocktails, venture to the restaurants down the beach – there are a couple of great authentic Thai places – and feed the impoverished cat in the Air bar before she gets shooed away.
No words! Perfection! The rooms, pool, food, service! All! Just perfect! Felt like we are royalty! Amazing view and one if the best interior designs I saw for hotel. Don't miss the amazing sunset and take a room with the sea view! Just amazing!

We had our Wedding at Intercontinetal on Sunday 8th March and it was absolutely amazing - best wedding venue on the island. the views are breathtaking and the staff, food and drinks are high quality also. Our 2 wedding planners Petra and Apple could not have done more from the first meeting, to on the day were absolutely superb! Hotel is great although a little secluded which is nice, the SPA is great - we had a massage there and was fantastic! Wouldnt recommend anywhere else to get married or stay if you want a quiet and relaxing holiday. Thanks Jess and Lee

Location of the hotel is its main advantage, besides I can certainly recommend breakfast and dinner in the restaurant Аmber. My room (215) was just beautiful. The only thing that causes confusion and frustration, it is the poor quality of beach towels. I recommend at this hotel to go with your towels. Also I recommend to take a knife (or a long screwdriver) and tubes, as many palm trees on the beach with the low-hanging coconuts, which are very easily opened and you get super fresh coconut juice! 2 weeks every morning at 7 am swimming in the infinity pool and each time were alone ... and then went to breakfast!

Room: Stayed in a Club Premier Oceanview Room and also a Tropical Pavilion Suite. Both rooms were gorgeous and super comfortable. The oceanview room had fantastic views, vaulted ceilings, and is very close to the lobby, Amber restaurant, and other main building facilities. The pavilion suite had no views other than the villa across the path and trees, yet it was large, spacious, and comfortable. Rooms at the Intercon are decorated in a colonial style with splashes of color and Thai accents. Wifi in the hotel was great and not limited to just the rooms. I was able to get wifi on the beach, pool, and at the restaurants. Spa: Had a 90 minute massage. The spa is nicely decorated and has a very good ambience. The massage itself was also nice. Although I booked for a 90 minute massage, it lasted only 70 minutes. With the aromatherapy massage, you get to choose your scented oil; the masseuse used the wrong oil. Because of these two discrepancies, I would rate the overall experience as sub-par. Room Tips: If you want the best views, then get an oceanview room, oceanview club room, or panoramic suite. These rooms are all in the main building and you are guaranteed to get uninterrupted, stunning views. The villas and other suites are on the hillside surrounded by trees, where you may or may not get a good view. If you want privacy, opt for a room in the main building as nobody will be able to see into your windows. Alternatively, opt for a king terrace suite as this is on the second floor of the villas in the cliff and will generally have better views. If you are opting for a beachfront pool villa, I highly recommend asking not to be placed in one of the villas behind the pool. Basically, your front lawn and “private” plunge pool face directly onto the main pool. It can be noisy during the day if there are kids around, and everyone at the main pool can look directly into your villa. There is one villa that faces the main pool outdoor shower, and this is probably the worst villa as I watched everyone who took a pool shower look directly at the poor couple lying on their villa lounge chairs. Useful Information: If you are thinking of upgrading to a club room, club suite, or club villa, it may be worth it. The biggest monetary benefits are breakfast included (saving 900BHT per person per day), unlimited cocktails and canapés at the Air bar from 1800-2000 (saving about 1500BHT per person per day if you have 3 cocktails), and a round-trip airport transfer (saving about 2400BHT). Apart from having a butler, some extra service, and perhaps a slightly nicer room, I would only recommend upgrading if the difference in price is less than 4,000BHT as that represents how much extra you would pay per night if you did not get a breakfast inclusive rate and paid a la carte for cocktails every night. All non-motorized sports equipment is free, which includes snorkeling, kayaking, mountain bikes, catamarans, and windsurfing. You can pay extra for a guided mountain bike trek or a catamaran sailing instruction. No limitations on how long you have the equipment or where you go. If you are interested in getting a massage, the hotel gives you a voucher for 25% off the treatment if you book within 24 hours of arriving at the hotel. This does not apply to spa packages. If you want some great Thai food at half the price of the hotel restaurants and a different atmosphere, take a walk on the beach northwards. The hotel next to the Intercon has good Thai food at about half the price, and the beach restaurant called I-Talay about 100m north of the hotel also has great Thai food for about a third of the price. If you are part of the Ambassador program, which guarantees a room upgrade, you may not get your upgrade if the hotel is at capacity. Instead, they will give you a discount of 25% on F&B. This could be an issue for some Ambassador members…just something to keep in mind. Hotel: Website says that for Club room benefits, you get a sarong and breakfast in your room, amongst other things. At the hotel, this was not offered so I recommend that the website is updated to be more reflective of what is actually on offer. Another club benefit listed on the website is complimentary gym access, but this is available to anyone in the hotel so it is kind of false advertising....(kind of like saying you get to use the pool as a benefit.) I sent an email to the concierge email address listed on the hotel website regarding confirming airport transfers and got no reply. I suggest that the hotel concierge check the concierge email more regularly, or if it is checked regularly, reply back to guests.

We booked online two beach front pool villa. Arrived and the checking in took aprox 70 minutes. Incompetent front desk staff combined with booking problems. But should never take that long. And if so, always take care of your guests with apologies and refreshments. We went to the rooms, finding not the ones we have booked online so had to change the rooms. We finally got two very nice beach front pool villa (507 & 508) after being very direct about what we expected... (a nice way of putting it) A beach front pool villa is not located directly out to the hotel swimming pool ! We decide to have dinner at the beach restaurant. It was nicely located on the beach with a lovely fire place. The rest was not a good experience. The staff was not professional and the wine was 45 min on the way. The lobster was over cooked so I nearly couldn't get it out of the shell. I specifically asked for no garlic and was served sauce, potatoes and mushrooms with garlic. I was so disappointed with the service and the food. I would expect so much more from an international resort. Maybe I'm just spoiled and use to better. Dining around the world I must say that this is not the place you go for the food, but for the location and nice view. Let's hope for a better day tomorrow at Samui Intercontinental hotel. It's difficult to find the appropriate words to describe this hotel/property. It is the best hotel I've ever stayed at which says a lot! A few words of wisdom: 1) If you're looking to swim in the ocean, this is not the hotel for you. There are huge rocks/boulders immediately when you enter the water, some are even sharp. You will not be able to stand as a result and snorkeling is the only option. 2) The hotel is secluded, it's on the far end of the island. This is exactly what I wanted, however, if you're looking for a party atmosphere this is not your hotel. 3) Upgrade to a bungalow. These rooms are huge, have awesome views, a great bed and good bathroom. I cannot say anything negative about this room type. I was blown away! 4) Enjoy the common areas of the hotel. This property has some of the coolest common areas I've seen in a hotel, take advantage and just relax there!
"Wonderful Stay with one of the Best view on the Island"
03/02/15 s-zissou06 France
It was a fantastic stay. The view in this hotel is absolutely beautiful. Check in was fast and we got a great room with a view. Staff is really eager to help, always with a smile. Hotel is clean and well organized. We really enjoyed food there, they have a great F&B Team, Alex and Executive Chef were always present in restaurant and the food was amazing. So many different events every week, we didn't need to go out from hotel to have lunch or dinner. They had a very nice Thai Buffet with one of the best Tom Yong soup I've had, next day was the Bbq at the beach, and then the Tepaniaki night. The Air Bar is a must do, be sure to be there 20 min before sunset and you will really see beautiful colors on the horizon. We really recommend this hotel and will be back for sure soon.
"Ever had a minibar just for wine?"

I'm going to struggle with this one, the title says it all. Next to the extremely well stocked minibar was another refrigerator that was dedicated to a perfect selection of full bottles of wine for every occasion. We stayed in one of the pool villas at the bottom of the hill, your own plunge pool and a massive 10 metre walk to the excellent swimming pool complete with swim up bar. Another 15 metres and you're in the warm sea. The room is a house with a big, comfy bed and a large spa bath in the large bathroom next door. Happy coats, slippers - you know the form when luxury is done properly. We drank in the bar to watch the sun go down and dined in the restaurants to enjoy the stars. The fireside seafood was particularly good and the fire dancing show genuinely spectacular. The breakfast was huge and varied and a serious threat to self discipline. The walk (optional, they have buggies) up the jungle covered hill to the main buildings traverses an excellent suspension bridge and the spa at the top does massages of the absolute first quality. This is another one of those places to bring that special person for their birthday weekend with no concern that you will be disappointed,
"BBQ Buffet at Flames. 5 star food."
02/25/15 BJK83 England, United Kingdom
We did not stay in accommodation at this resort, we visited the beach resort restaurant 'Flames' after pre drinks at 'Air Bar' in the same resort. The setting is amazing on its own private beach, fire pit area and tables on the sand. We all decided to have the BBQ buffet which was all you can eat. The BBQ options were amazing, mainly consisting of fresh sea fish, lobster, crab, king prawns, pork, wagyu steak, rib eye steak, chicken and lamb ribs. You also have the choice of plenty of side dishes and sauces. The portions were massive and the food would arrive at our table as soon as it had left the BBQ. I'm a huge fan of shellfish and steaks, this was not only one of the best BBQ buffets I have ever experienced but also one of the best dinning out meals I have ever had! If I ever return to the island I will be eating here again.
