Legacy Cardiff International Hotel - Cardiff

We spent one night in May while driving from London to Edinburgh...we were pleased with the quality of the room and impressed with how quiet it was. We didn't hear a noise all night long. The neighborhood was pleasant to walk through but the location to Cardiff Castle was too far to walk. We were fortunate to have a car.

The breakfast was not great. Dishes were dirty. Eggs very diluted with water and not much of a selection. Coffee machine broke down and not available for one day.

The first impression on arrival from the exteria was good. On entering the building via the only entrance was a little annoying as the rotating door was small and did not really accommodate someone accessing the hotel with multi bags. After checking in I was told where to go to find the rooms, the signage was there but poorly located so I missed it […] the first time and was put right by a passer by, again the signage for the lifts and stairs was poor, on exiting the lifts there was no directions to the rooms at all, again not good when you have multiple bags. The room initially looked dated, the Tv was small but had good functionality, the trouser press was in good order and worked well, the room was generally tidy, there were some marks on the bed sheets and hairs present when I pulled back the covers, the road noise was excessive as the windows were of an outdated standard of frame and one of the two locking handles was missing, this led to excessive road noise at night. The following morning I noticed that the end of the toilet roll had what looked like fecies on it they were not mine!!!, this was stomach turning and quite frankly unacceptable!!! I took my belongings to the car and returned for my ore paid breakfast, breakfast was not particularly pleasent or value for money. An interesting start when we checked in as the Receptionist had to join us on the trip to the room in order to produce a key fro the room. This only took a short while but strange that they had no key. The room was clean and tidy and provided the double and single bed as booked. We were looking for a nice quiet hotel to spend two nights in. Breakfast was not included(not needed either) so cannot comment on the quality. Teabags/Coffee and electric kettle were supplied which was one thing we always look for in a hotel room. The room and the bathroom were clean. The room also had a sofa which could be converted into a third bed. […] The room did not have central heating but had a electric wall mounted heater which was so powerful that we had to keep it at a minimium setting to be comfortable. The only time we had any dealing with the staff was when we had a drink in the bar. The staff was polite and friendly. I would not say the hotel was dated as other reviews have stated. I found their Lounge quite comfortable and relaxing. The other reason we chose this hotel was ample parking and its proximity to the motorway. If you have a car, this would be ideal for visiting friends in Cardiff. I have no idea as to what form of public transport is available if you do not have your own transport. Though the motorway is only 50 metres away, the noise of the traffic could not be heard in the hotel. Read more

The room was freezing cold (with no heating available to change that), the hot water was just warm, the cold water was (initially) warm, the decor was shabby (not shabby chic, just shabby), the food was unimaginitive and no more than adequate, the service was poor, the staff disinterested and the lift was broken (with an undated sign saying 'parts due […] this week'!) - pretty much what most of the other reviews said (unfortunately I chose to believe those left by others, maybe family and friends, that said it was great). The hotel rooms, i stayed in had a musty smell. The heater was a plug in electric heater, not the usual aircomditioning system expected in 4* hotels. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls. In contrast, the bed was very comfy and the shower had great water pressure. I wouldn't stay there again thought.

We were pleasantly surprised with the hotel, it was larger and more modern than we expected. We needed to book a number of rooms at short notice, and were happy to be offered a good rate - we also stopped the following night at short notice. The family rooms are a good size, with a full single size bed in rather than a bed settee. The staff were friendly […] and accommodating. Unfortunately this was one of the worst hotel experiences we had in a long time, especially considering the high price we paid for the staying. Although the room was non-smoking, as we specified, there was a very strong smell of tobacco impregnated in the walls and furniture. From time to time, there was also a smell of sewage. The staff were very helpful but they could have been a bit more welcoming on arrival & on returning to the hotel. We had booked a family room for four of us & there was one double bed, one single bed which was good but the fourth bed was a seat that opened out in to a bed which had seen better days.

Very helpfull staff but rooms a bit dated, rooms very like a travelodge. The food is very pricey and beer over £4 a pint but we enjoyed our stay as it is only 6 miles from city centre and easy to get about from there.

Check in Receptionist pretty ignorant, location perfect for what I wanted, this was the reason for choosing. Room was not good, drawers wouldn't close properly - kept falling off the tracks, handle kept coming off wardrobe door, sticky carpet. Room not ready on arrival despite phoning in morning to find out what time we could get in room. Still not ready after waiting 20 mins so left bags with reception as we had to be somewhere and checked in when we returned.(approx 11pm). Paid for family room. 1 double bed, 1 single bed & a mattress chucked on the floor under radiator!!

Hard to find, smaller roads especially poorly signposted in Wales. Maid service was lovely. The concierge had trouble understanding English, and gave us improper directions, causing us to lose a few hours. Very clean and quiet, and close to Castell Coch. 10-15 min drive out of Cardiff.

Does what it says on the box.good value .the only downside was discovering at breakfast that the "hotels.com" rate onlly included the continental breakfast so whilst everybody else was tucking in to bacon and eggs we had Muesli!!!

I don't normally write reviews but have made an exception because i was so impressed! We stayed at the hotel prior to a visit to Cardiff university. To be honest I was expecting very much as hadn't paid very much for the night...was impressed by the hotel from the moment we arrived. Have stayed here before and for the price it's a good deal. The hotel is clean (if a little dark in the main reception areas), and the rooms are well presented and comfortable. My only minor complaint would be that there was only one person on Reception at checking out time which meant a long queue and a bit of frustration.

The hotel needs total rennovation. Personnel are not motivated to help guests. No going out possibilities in the neighbourhood. Because of the 6 Nations Rugby Match (which was a wonderful experience!!), we had no choice but this hotel. Otherwise, I cannot reccommend this hotel.

The room was really comfortable and cosy, but was a little too warm that evening so we needed the window to be open, that in turn meant quite a bit of noise from the passing traffic, which we are just not used to. We will definately use the Cardiff International again, but will ask if we can have a room towards the back of the hotel.

On entry to the room the cold hit you, there are no raditors, only a plug in heater for you to use if needed - and it was needed. Dirty toilet on arrival, within minutes I asked for it to be cleaned and it never happened, we had to use the toilet in the lobby to brush our teeth in the morning. Good job we only lived 30 minutes away where we went home to shower.
