Used as a backdrop for countless films and TV shows, downtown Los Angeles is one of the world’s most recognized skylines. This area’s landmarks include the LA Convention Center, the Staples Center, and Dodger Stadium. Post-modern architecture takes center stage at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Nearby, Chinatown and Little Tokyo lie east of City Hall.

It was clean, continental breakfast was good, but the beds were hard!
"Walk to Union Station and Amtrak depot"

"Hotel close to union station"
The Hotel is located close to Union station and the downtown area. Also it is close to Philippe FRENCH DIPPED SANDWICHES. The hotel is nice and and clean and quiet. The staff members are polite and helpful. The neighborhood is nice . Our room was nice and clean and quiet.
"Easy to find location"
The service men did not smile at all. The mattress was not comfortable, but the room was clean and spacious.
I believe this hotel was meant for someone to sleep and nothing else and nothing more
"Horrible"
This hotel has a long way to go. The outside appearance is even bad. No good.
"Internet is poor"
We've stayed at this hotel before. Neighborhood is ok--a little sketchy at night. What we like is the proximity of Chinatown (for reasonable food, groceries and culture) and Union Station (for bus and subway access). Parking was reasonable at $4 per day. Big fail for us was the poor internet access. It's a fatal flaw for us. We won't come back. It used […] to be better. Solid wifi connection, but very poor latency issues. Basically unusable. We thought it was our room location, but the lobby had the same issues. We travel with a Windows XP laptop, a Mac laptop and an iPad. All had the same poor wireless. If internet access is not important to you, then I would recommend this hotel. Read more
staff was very rude, unhelpful and unresponsive to needs. when asking for internet service...no response. waited at desk to ask question while staff talked on private phone and would not get off phone to help us. staff did not seem to even care. when we ate continental breakfast they kept asking if we had rooms at the hotel as if we were stealing the […] food. will never go back there. elevator very slow and hallways smelled bad, bathroom molded but room was clean. Parking attendants were great!!! Read more
"good value"
Location and car parking a plus. Front desk helpful, breakfast very, very basic. A good value overall for downtown LA.
"Metro Plaza Hotel was more than I expected!!"
Located across the street from historic Olvera Street, this hotel has it own covered parking, friendly staff, very clean, two blocks away from the main train station, WIFI, block away from Alomeda Ave (takes you directly to the heart of downtown LA). This hotel looks retro but it's definitely worth it! I will stay here again!
"A clean hotel at reasonable rates"
not a bad hotel for the price...large room and bathroom, clean and friendly with reliable internet connectivity. could use upgrades to the television sets and definitely need to have an iron and ironing board in every room, not just a small one to share
"Metro Plaza Hotel- close to train station/city"

"Metro Plaza Hotel"
This hotel was very close to Union Station. A very colorful neighborhood. My stay did not allow me sample the local foods but on the way in the choices were numerous within a 3 block area.

"really great hotel"
if you can stay here, stay here, parking is only $4 with in-n-out privlegages, subway right next door, and olvera street 2 blocks away
"Quiet, comfortable room, pleasant staff"
The room completely fit the bill for our needs-- quiet, comfortable and in a fantastic location-- perfect for a quick getaway weekend in downtown LA. And the price couldn't be beat.
Nice clean hotel in downtown area, $4 parking was very convenient and inexpensive for the area, just be aware that they expect you to have your car out of the parking garage by check out (12:00)or they may try and charge you for day parking.

"The Metro: Easy Access Via Good Transportation"
Can not get away from the date and infrastructure of the building and surrounding neighborhood, however this hotel is quaint and small 80 rooms. Reception polite and courteous, receptive and helpful when asked for information. Continental Breakfast very simple but nourishing, basic ceral (2) Juice (2) Bread (3) bagels (2) fruit (2) milk 2%, coffee (2) […] Service for Saturday breakfast was very cordial; however Sunday Breakfast Service was Cold and standoffish. Was not receptived when asked for items in shortness, arrived at 9 am (breakfast from 6:30 to 9:30 am). Location is good for Chinatown, Dodge games, Downtown LA, Self tour of places of interest. Union Station 5 min walk. Over all enjoyed my stay and would rebook another say here. Read more
"$4 dollar parking"
Clean, nice rooms and very good location. Good parking for only 4 dollars!! I have to emphasize the parking fee because less experience travelers may be shocked by the parking fees of other down town hotels which are on average $40.00.
"the hotel"
everything i could have wanted for a one night stay making a connection from a train at Union Station for a flight the next day to NYC
"Close to chinatown"
I highly recommend this one and people are very nice there.

"Fairly good value"
Price was competitive so we gave it a shot. Room was pretty big and it was clean. Location is great...didn't drive anywhere to get food, shop, or ride the rail. Only complaint, when I asked for another pillow was told "we are out...just fold up a blanket and that will work." If I was riding a trail in the Old West and sleeping under the stars then I'm […] sure that would suffice. However, it's 2012 and they manufacture pillows every day of the week. Pretty ridiculous. "Affordable Spot"
Whenever I come to LA for an event my friends and I know we have a sensibly priced stay at the Metro Plaza. Its not the Waldorf but it gets the job done with a relatively high level of class
"Metro Plaza hotel review"
The hotel is in chinatown. Outside the hotel the area is a little bit rough with homeless people hanging around and drunks rambling around. All night and day sirens were going by, our room was close to the window and heard it all the time. The room itself was clean and spacious. My wife and two kids and I did not feel cramped at all in the room. The […] wifi internet worked for the first day then didn't work anymore. I told the guy at the desk and he didn't seem at all concerned or willing to do anything about it so that was very bad for a connected person like me. The breakfast was a little spartan, no waffles but fruit and yogurt and bagels and cereal. Overall the hotel was good if you're not concerned about neighborhood outside the hotel or wifi and a modest breakfast is enough. I personally would not stay there again, I think there has to be better choices nearby around the same price point. Read more

"Convenient to Union Station"
I needed a place that was close to Union Station. We were coming into LA on Amtrak and then needed to catch the FlyAway bus from Union Station to LAX the next day. By the way, the FlyAway is $7 pp versus a $50 cab ride I paid on the way in. The hotel is visible from the corner of the block where Union Station is; very, very walkable even late at night. […] There's a subway next door if you're hungry, but not much else. The front desk staff were very friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and basic yet contemporary. However, this was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever laid on. If the bed were better, I would have marked it a 5 overall because of the friendliness of the staff. Read more
onvenient location to Amtrak travelers and connections to the city. Very accomodating staff.
"A Shame about Location"
This is clearly a hotel that once was quite nice but the neighborhood has become depressed surrounding it. I stayed because it was across the street from a conference I was attending. Also just across from entrance to Oliveira Street. Rooms were exceptionally clean, but the bed felt like a slab. Bathroom was very large and well kept. Lots of street […] noise and I had some concerns about safety, but there were no incidents of note. They need to make some effort to decorate the lobby better and put in some furnishings. It's a turn off in the lobby, but upstairs is ok, though dated. Read more
"Clean and quiet"
This place is incredibly convenient. If you walk out the front door and keep going straight, you're at Union Station. If you turn right, you're at Olvera Street. If you turn left, you're in Chinatown. Would have liked a nicer breakfast, but that's a minor complaint. It was perfectly edible.
The Metro Plaza staff was not friendly at all very very rude maybe because I'm not Asian but the front desk staff other than the guy who checked me in were very rude the older man that was doing something at the front desk didn't even acknowlage my presence I had to wait until the other guy was finished with the person he was with. the cleaning staff […] was outstanding they would say good morning or hellow each time they would pass you in the hall it was that front desk staff that was really bad.. I will never stay there again Read more

"Central for Me"
Metro Plaza Hotel was conveniantly located for me. Near Olvera Street, China Town and Union Station. Room was comfortable and clean. Television selection was poor to non-existant. Some kind of heavy construction going on on week nights starting at 8PM and lasting to midnight. Not in the hotel but near. Staff was polite and helpful.
"Good hotel overall"
Bottom line: if you want to stay in SF downtown, this might be just the best budget choice. Pros: Room is clean; close to Chinatown and Mexico street (f you care); close to union station; close to downtown buildings; Cons: Internet is worst than dial up; some staff doesn't know what they talking about; Parking cost $4/day;
"Excellent for price"

"Business Travel"
A one night stay for business was all I would want at this hotel. Not sure if the value was worth while. A bit older and run down, Clean enough and served the purpose.
"Simple but ok for a short stay"
I've stayed at Metro Plaza Hotel for one night in October 2011. Coming by train from Oakland it was a short walk from the Union Station to the Hotel. The Hotel itself is a little bit rund down, but the rooms are clean. Perfect for one night. The breakfast is very poor, almost no choice and bad smell in the breakfast room. Would recommend taking a nice […] coffee at Starbucks located in the Union Station. I enjoyed the short walk to the Union station from where you can hop into many metro lines or take the flyaway shuttle to the LAX airport. Read more

"Great little hotel in downtown L.A"
This was the first time visiting the Metro Plaza Hotel. It is not fancy, but the rooms are great and the location is fantastic. With in walking distance, you can visit Unions Station. Fantastic historical building, Chinatown...the food was great, Disney Center, this is one of the most beautiful buildings in the area and much much more. I will go back. […] Staff is friendly and I have continental breakfast. Read more

"Great accommodations for the price range"
Don't get me wrong, this is not a "Roosevelt" or a Bonadventure" Hotel, but for the money, which was very reasonable, the staff was friendly, the location was awesome and the rooms were clean. I stayed in a room near the street and it was a little noisy but I just put in earplugs and called it a day. If your sensitive to noise then you might request […] a room away from the street. We could literally walk to Olvera street and Chinatown from the hotel. They also have coffee in the lobby and a free continental breakfast. A really good bargain. Read more
