"Nice hotel on the beach"
Check in took 45 min. The room was really nice. Went to the pool and was told that there would be a pool guy with towels coming out shortly however that never happened so I had to go back to the room wet. The location on the beach is nice.

Good location, new and clean, pleasant staff but would not stay there again. No outdoor restrooms by pool area; you have to walk a good distance back to the hotel lobby to use the bathroom. No gift shop, you can't even buy a newspaper in the hotel and there are no complimentary papers. Very lame coffee shop with limited and overpriced items. If you buy a $5.00 bottle of water that you take out of the cooler and hand to the cashier, they add 18% gratuity to your bill just for ringing it up. The lunch menu had no seafood items, and was a bit boring. Dinner was only buffet; no a la carte items. The pool bar/restaurant was not open yet, but hopefully when it is open the food choices will improve. Housekeeping staff used main elevator bank all day long and this tied up the already slow elevator service.

"A few bumps."
Check in was slow, stood about 45 minutes in line, initially didn't get the ocean view room that I had paid an upgrade for, but the fronk desk did move us after I complained . The car valet was very busy, and cost $28 a day which wasn't disclosed till we checked out, when we checked out the car was valeted off site so the wait for the dar was about 30 minutes which made the trip to airport a little rushed. Otherwise we enjoyed ourbstay.

"Disappointed"
The pictures do match how nice the rooms are but pictures can't tell you how rude the staff is. We had issues the moment we walked in the hotel to check in. Apparently people should only walk or take public transportation in Miami beach. We were told valet was full and had to find other parking. When asked where we could park, staff couldn't be bothered to give us more directions other than there was parking a couple of blocks away. Try 6 blocks away! The parking the staff preferred to was also full as it is public parking for other hotels and their guests as well. I was very disappointed in the service and frustrated that I had to deal with it when the hotel was so expensive.

"My coldest hotel room experience"
In almost all respects the hotel and hotel room were very good. The room had a fridge, but no microwave. I had to leave early so I found it inconvenient that breakfast service did not begin until 7:00 or 7:30am (I can't remember which). Parking was essentially unavailable in the area of Miami Beach where the hotel was located, so I was forced to use valet parking. I sometimes waited ten or fifteen minutes to get my car. My biggest complaint was the fact that the room thermostat did not work. I have never been so cold in a hotel room in my life as in this hotel in Miami Beach in February. Maybe I could have complained about the thermostat and got it fixed, but I didn't want to deal with the disruption. I would have especially liked a warm bath under this circumstance, but my hotel room only had a shower.

"Too little too late..."
The restaurants closed too early and overall the staff were not as helpful as I' expected. They were slow to recommend good restaurants in the are even when their restaurant was closed...we asked for someone to help bring our luggage to the car, but they were so slow we moved it ourselves before anyone arrived...

"if you don't mind parking ten blocks away ..great"
This is a good place to stay if you want to park ten blocks from the hotel ..the parking is first come first serve and is limited which means after you drive for seven hours you then have to find a parking lot or risk having your vehicle towed . beware

"should be nice in the future"
overall ok. Not knowing I checked in the day after reopening from complete renovation. There were many details still not complete at the hotel. Restaurants and bar not fully opened. Pool accommodations still under construction. Tv never worked the whole time I was there even after two trips to the front desk, etc. With that said I believe it will be a nice spot in the future after getting all the bugs worked out.

I came here with some girl friends. We had a good time without paying too much for a hotel. There is a liquor store nearby. The hotel service is great. You can get a Miami airport shuttle to drop you there for less than a taxi's cost. Going out at night will require a taxi that isn't too pricey i.e. Ten bucks

"personal of hotel very nice"
our stay was great, it was for a day, but was worth it, valet parking guys, front desk and towels personal was very nice and funny with my kid, even the towel person for the pool that day start singing for my 4 year old son telling him some pool rules to obey, ending the pool time my son saying I have a new friend, lol, it was very easy for my to speak Spanish cause I am Hispanic but no worries they all speak English. just 15 min driving to south beach, 3 blocks from hotel a great Cuban breakfast restaurant and a Cuban groceries store, quite at night.

Below my expectations. Free WiFi only 90 min in the lobby, pool CLOSES at 6 pm. the room we stayed in was clean, but furniture and bathroom needs updates for a Riu hotel. nice restaurant and bar on site and live entertainment. staff was nice and helpful. hotel is a couple minutes from the South Beach boardwalk, restaurants, shopping.

Pros; right on the beach, supermarket close by, nice pool, kiddie pool, pool bar, nice lobby Cons; small room, tired / outdated rooms and hallways although they are renevating. our room was renevated, i found the renevations kind of cheap. This hotel was cheaper than most but was still pretty good overall. If you are looking for high class hotel, this is far from that but if you want great value, there is not much better. Good for family on a budget.

"Florida spring break"
Very nice hotel. We had a stunning view of the pool area and ocean. Everyone was so helpful from giving suggestions on sight-seeing to "grabbing" a cab for us. Love that the boardwalk and ocean beach are "right there"! It was a welcome surprise that it was quiet - even during Spring Break 2014.

The hotel was in a perfect location with a nice tropical area with pool and perfect easy access to the beach. The room was a bit outdated but looks like renovations are going on. 22 dollar valet parking per day sucked. Food was yummy but overpriced. Breakfast buffet was convenient and delicious but was 17 per person. The location on the beach definitely made this a great vacation.

"Shades of former glory"
This hotel is seriously run down and is not at all what it should / could be. The rooms are clean but out-of-date and shabby. The common areas are equally threadbare and old. The hotel is operating as though none of this matters; rooms are clean, service is good, and staff dress like they are working in a 5 star hotel (bowties in a restaurant that only serves sub-par buffet food). There are renovations going on, which will help the rooms (so far only city-view rooms have been renoed) but the lobby, halls, and pool all need as much attention. This hotel reminds me of travels to Cuba....

"Great value"
We asked for a quiet room and were upgraded to an oceanfront room that was great. They could do a few things better & become a higher class hotel. For instance: free wi-fi; cold water at the pool; HEAT the pool; and frankly get some better pillows. The staff are really nice and that goes a long way towards a happy guest. Guests here are primarily European though we are not- no problem. BTW the lobby is beautiful.

"Beautiful grounds, excellent service"
This is a great hotel on the beach away from the South Beach craziness. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and I liked the way they had chairs away from the pool and plenty of shade for adults without kids. Rooms are pretty quiet. Only complaint was the housecleaning staff chatting loudly outside my room at 8:00am which woke me up. I understand they need to start cleaning early to turn the rooms around in time but do they have to shout at each other in the hallway?

"Great Beach Hotel"
Located on the Beach of Miami Beach, we had a beautiful view of the ocean. Walked along Beach Boardwalk and onto the warm water beach. Had a great time. Room was very clean with coffee, large shower, descent water pressure, and great views. Woke up early to enjoy a fantastic sunrise from our room terrace. Making memories from Miami at the Riu.

"Felt like I was in another country"
I was not thrilled with this hotel. I was speaking English and it didn't appear that people there knew what I was saying. I went to the restaurant in the morning for a coffee to go and they refused to give it me. I was directed to the hotel next door. When I went there and explained to them that the hotel I am staying at does not have coffee for their customers they gave me the coffee for free. The man by the pool who gave us towels was very nice and actually gave us extra towels. Also, it was very chilly at night but the hotel did not have heat. The front desk was nice enough to give me a portable heater, but I had to go down and get it.

"Improved from past reviews"
The RIU ended up better than I thought judging by earlier reviews by others. For example, both elevators appear to be brand new and each were in use, so never had to wait very long for one. Customer service I thought was extremely friendly, especially Simira at the front desk. The wait staff in the restaurant were hard workers. My room appeared to be one of the newly renovated rooms as it was in good shape. I enjoyed the balcony view of the ocean. The only negative was that I called twice before making my reservation to ask whether the swimming pool was heated, each time the clerk said yes it was heated. However when I got there the pool water was very cold which was a significant let down for the trip. Overall I have no problem returning to the RIU in summer, but not in winter with the cold pool.

Guest parking (extra cost) was full - not available, and all public spaces nearby required payment by 8:00 AM or be towed, and with 3 hr maximum time limit. And ... one of two elevators was out of service, making for 10-15 waits to get to or from the room. Long walk to restaurants. Not a good experience.

"Construction chaos"
Extremely disappointed in the service and the hotel. We had paid for an ocean view room and was given an ocean view room BUT with construction going on next to our room. The front desk didn't bother to inform of us of that fact when checking in. We then requested another room and were given "ocean front" which turned out to be a view of a roof and a few palm trees. Not wanting to spend the evening watching football on a non-HD TV, we asked the concierge where we could watch the NFL wildcard playoffs and he proceeded to ask us "don't you have a TV in your room?" ...what kind of an answer is that from the concierge? Will we stay at the RIU again or recommend it to our friends....NO.

"Dissapointing stay"
The hotel has potential, however our stay wasn't very pleasing... there was a lot of construction going on... there were only 2 elevators and only 1 was working. The staff did nothing to appologize or try to make anything better. we were on the 9th floor and had to take the stairs several times. the balcony was a plus with a nice view. room was very outdated and bathroom wasn't the cleanest. I understand that they are upgrading it which is great, however don't put your guests in rooms directly across the hall from a construction zone. We are staying next door at the palms for the rest of the week and it is 100x better for the same price.

"Worst hotel that I've ever stayed at!"
The hotel rooms are very old and have a horrible smell to them. The beds were uncomfortable. The bath towels were rough and we had to call a few times for them to bring us new ones, because they "forgot." Also, one of the elevators were broken, so only one elevator was functioning correctly for all of the hotel guest. I will not never ever stay at Riu hotel again, nor will I trust expedia's judgement on a hotel.

"Riu Florida Miami experience"
This is an OK hotel to stay, nothing to boast off. It's NOT VALUE FOR MONEY, we have stayed in hotels which are way better for considerably less prices as compared to Riu. WiFi & Elevator were not working in hotel for both the days we stayed in the hotel during the peak Xmas season.

"Under major renovations and super rude staff"
We had worst night in our life with no sorry at all!!! When we were going to our room all the rooms on the way to our room on 10th floor were open, empty and under major renovation ours was last. It felt very wierd & unsafe passing all the construction guys and tools and mess! They changed the room But the room which was given was very dirty and had horrible sharp smell of mold or something! we were told don't worry go enjoy we will switch the room as we didn't stay in the room at all when we checked in when we returned back in mid might we were told they have no idea what we r saying and the room was same so we went up but the keys were changed and we had to go down again and get new keys! And when we finally entered the room it had same dirty smell and the bathroom was very dirty with sticky urine all over the toilet. Front desk was super rude & yelled it is impossible for the bathroom to be dirty and there is no housekeeping available in the evening and he can't change the room or do anything about the smell and refused to provide cleaning and extra blanket or pillow We were really choking with filthy smell and couldn't use bathroom it was very late when we came back so we had no choice We couldn't even sleep there and as soon as it was morning we checked out even though we had booking for 2 days! No one cared why we r checking out earlier than what we paid for!

"Too noisy"
Room walls are thin, you can hear people talking , coughing, you name it. We were on 7 th floor , I was surprised to hear traffic . Stayed 1 night only. If I would return would choose another hotel. Or if you rent bring ear plugs. People are coming and going all hours with interruption to sleep. If rest is not on your list, this place would be fine.

"Very bad experience"
We showed up to the hotel after booking online early and we thought they we so nice by letting us check in early due to our long trip and we were so ready for a shower an a nap. Once checked in and paying for the valet parking we realized we left an item in the car. Make a note: you are NOT allowed access to your car in te garage. You will have to pay valet again to have them bring your car to you at the front to get the item and then pay again to have them park the vehicle back in the garage. Upon enterin the room we noticed it was very dirty and moldy. They had true to update it but only the beds looked the clean. The bathtub was brown from use with huge (what I can only describe as burn spots) spots all over the bottom. We proceeded to unpack and when my husband went to get in the shower only a trickle of water came out and the toilet would not flush. I immediately calle the front desk and they said they were performing routine maintenance on the plumbing in the hotel and it should be going better soon. We decided we could deal with the trickle just to get somewhat if a shower in. Well, when I went to take a trickle shower all of a sudden there was absolutely no water. When I made another call to the front desk the informed me there would e no water until 4 pm (3 hours from that time) and we should be grateful they let us check in early. So my husband decided to go get some bottled water or something for us to drink and when e asked the front desk where he could get some they let him know he could walk three blocks to a concur menace store to get something as they have nothing at the hotel. What???? She said "it is not that far to walk sir." So when my husband comes back upstairs to let me know we needed to go somewhere, he walks in the door and water started pouring through te ceiling. Needless to say we packed up and left after paying the valet again to go and get our car. When I informed the front desk that they may want to check our room as it was flooding fr

"Great pool and service"
Rooms are definitely dated but if you're not in them a lot it's an ok place to stay. Pool and outdoor bar area is a big plus and it's right on the beach. The views are fantastic, especially sunrise. Close to south beach but definitely a cab or bus ride. Staff was great from my experience.
