Very nice hotel. We had a stunning view of the pool area and ocean. Everyone was so helpful from giving suggestions on sight-seeing to "grabbing" a cab for us. Love that the boardwalk and ocean beach are "right there"! It was a welcome surprise that it was quiet - even during Spring Break 2014.

Very nice and clean hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Updated rooms very nice and clean. Valet parking was a plus since parking elsewhere is limited. Hotel sits Right on the beach!!! Would definitely stay here again.

this is really a lovely hotel. yes, everything is expensive on miami beach. parking is $22. very nice breakfast buffet $16 and dinner buffet $25. internet $13. this is a quality RIU resort and they have 3 in punta cana alone. we would gladly go back. construction next door (not at the RIU) but minor and stops at 5:00. walk or bus to restaurants and light shopping. this is a quality place. staff is very nice.

Hotel was okay. Had "ocean view" Standard double bed with a balcony. Hotel looks pretty worn hence the renovations taking place which was going on a few rooms down the hall and made the hall smell like crap. We had issues with the shower also with the diverter which they had to replace. It was also not draining properly which they fixed. If you get a really cheap rate then it's worth it otherwise would rather stay farther down near the action at the Loews, Shore Club, SLS, Richmond , etc. Otherwise you'll need to take a taxi, parking is impossible and the walk is pretty far. Pool looks nice in photos but needed a good cleaning (yellow surface by the drains and leaves and dirt floating on water).

Had requested non smoking room with the booking,due to husbands asthma. Was given a choice of smoking room or a room next to construction. Nether choice was good. I travel at least 4-5 times a month.rarely complain. The nonsmoking room had a strong sewer odor. I requested a different room, was advised there were none available. Within minutes, someone walked into the hotel and requested a room, amazingly, there was one available. When I addressed this, I was advised that because went through Expedia, there couldnot change my room. I think that remark speaks for itself.

The room was OK, but they wake us up Friday and Saturday at 8:00 in the morning with the super loud construction noise and horrible smell on the hall way of the 10th floor, you have to pay $22 valet parking and wait 30 minutes to get you car, the pool is closed at 7:00 afternoon, overall the room was clean. but i wont recommend this hotel until fully renovation.

The hotel was in a perfect location with a nice tropical area with pool and perfect easy access to the beach. The room was a bit outdated but looks like renovations are going on. 22 dollar valet parking per day sucked. Food was yummy but overpriced. Breakfast buffet was convenient and delicious but was 17 per person. The location on the beach definitely made this a great vacation.

This hotel is seriously run down and is not at all what it should / could be. The rooms are clean but out-of-date and shabby. The common areas are equally threadbare and old. The hotel is operating as though none of this matters; rooms are clean, service is good, and staff dress like they are working in a 5 star hotel (bowties in a restaurant that only serves sub-par buffet food). There are renovations going on, which will help the rooms (so far only city-view rooms have been renoed) but the lobby, halls, and pool all need as much attention. This hotel reminds me of travels to Cuba....

With the ocean view room, you can watch the different cruise ships going off to sea on their cruises. Did not get to use the amenities but the pool looks good from the room balcony. The Hotel is right on the water , busy beaches. No room for parking so you have to do the valet parking, could come in and out anytime. The room does not have enough insulation so the hallways and rooms are noisy. Buffet meals are available if desired. Location is good for other restaurants and other entertainment.Staff are friendly and helpful.

Wonderful beach & pool area and enjoyed walking the boardwalk. Pool bar was understaffed and not friendly at all. Room had a funny smell so we had to open windows to help air it out although it was clean.

We asked for a quiet room and were upgraded to an oceanfront room that was great. They could do a few things better & become a higher class hotel. For instance: free wi-fi; cold water at the pool; HEAT the pool; and frankly get some better pillows. The staff are really nice and that goes a long way towards a happy guest. Guests here are primarily European though we are not- no problem. BTW the lobby is beautiful.

We enjoyed our stay at Riu, the hotel staff was very helpful. The hotel is under renovation, so one side of the entire 10 floor is covered with plastic foil and between 9 and 17 workers are on work. We ask to another room and next they provided us another. The free wifi is only in the lobby and just 90 min/day and very slow. But for 20 EUR you can buy excelent 3 day access. On the main entrance there are only steps, not very confortable with baby carriage and big suitcase.

This is a great hotel on the beach away from the South Beach craziness. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and I liked the way they had chairs away from the pool and plenty of shade for adults without kids. Rooms are pretty quiet. Only complaint was the housecleaning staff chatting loudly outside my room at 8:00am which woke me up. I understand they need to start cleaning early to turn the rooms around in time but do they have to shout at each other in the hallway?

Located on the Beach of Miami Beach, we had a beautiful view of the ocean. Walked along Beach Boardwalk and onto the warm water beach. Had a great time. Room was very clean with coffee, large shower, descent water pressure, and great views. Woke up early to enjoy a fantastic sunrise from our room terrace. Making memories from Miami at the Riu.

I recently (December 2013) stayed at the RIU Miami Beach for 1 week. Upon arrival the front desk was very nice, helpful, and fast. I booked an ocean view room for 4 and was very pleased with the room we stayed at. Our room number was 1034 with gorgeous full view of the ocean. We had a balcony. The room was comfortable. The hotel and the room were a little old, but that did not bother us specially with the breathtaking view of the sunrise and the ocean every day. The valet was a little pricey but most hotels are like that in Miami. There are many cafés, breakfast places close by the hotel. Bus stops in front to go to South Beach. I'm a runner and the boardwalk right by the ocean was a great place to run in the morning. Be aware of your surroundings and the little tucked away benches along the boardwalk with unpleasant characters around. Overall I recommend this hotel, location is great close to South beach yet far enough to be away from the busy areas.

I was not thrilled with this hotel. I was speaking English and it didn't appear that people there knew what I was saying. I went to the restaurant in the morning for a coffee to go and they refused to give it me. I was directed to the hotel next door. When I went there and explained to them that the hotel I am staying at does not have coffee for their customers they gave me the coffee for free. The man by the pool who gave us towels was very nice and actually gave us extra towels. Also, it was very chilly at night but the hotel did not have heat. The front desk was nice enough to give me a portable heater, but I had to go down and get it.

There was a cold spell in south beach and room had no heat. Front desk response was "it was a weather condition" & was not offered any option. Valet Parkin is $22 street parking for the day is about $8. You can hear clearly conversations 2 rooms away.

The RIU ended up better than I thought judging by earlier reviews by others. For example, both elevators appear to be brand new and each were in use, so never had to wait very long for one. Customer service I thought was extremely friendly, especially Simira at the front desk. The wait staff in the restaurant were hard workers. My room appeared to be one of the newly renovated rooms as it was in good shape. I enjoyed the balcony view of the ocean. The only negative was that I called twice before making my reservation to ask whether the swimming pool was heated, each time the clerk said yes it was heated. However when I got there the pool water was very cold which was a significant let down for the trip. Overall I have no problem returning to the RIU in summer, but not in winter with the cold pool.

We stayed at the RIU the weekend of jan 3 2014. While the staff was great and very informative, I would not stay at the hotel again. It had only one elevator working so the 10 story stairs were a climb, plus the room was not very clean, or confortable.

Guest parking (extra cost) was full - not available, and all public spaces nearby required payment by 8:00 AM or be towed, and with 3 hr maximum time limit. And ... one of two elevators was out of service, making for 10-15 waits to get to or from the room. Long walk to restaurants. Not a good experience.

Extremely disappointed in the service and the hotel. We had paid for an ocean view room and was given an ocean view room BUT with construction going on next to our room. The front desk didn't bother to inform of us of that fact when checking in. We then requested another room and were given "ocean front" which turned out to be a view of a roof and a few palm trees. Not wanting to spend the evening watching football on a non-HD TV, we asked the concierge where we could watch the NFL wildcard playoffs and he proceeded to ask us "don't you have a TV in your room?" ...what kind of an answer is that from the concierge? Will we stay at the RIU again or recommend it to our friends....NO.

1. Location as advertised- outstanding, right on Miami Beach and the Boardwalk 2. Lobby pictures, condition and POOL DECK as depicted- excellent THEN IT GETS VERY BAD 1. Only ONE of two Elevators in Service for Four days there- no effort to fix the other Elevator 2. Room is EXTREMELY DATED!! Carpet was lavender in color and extremely worn. Bedding was showing extreme wear, smallish TV, complete lack of electrical outlets. 3. Valet service ONLY for cars- expensive and long waits for service 4. Staff was marginal and not warm EXCEPT the Pool Staff which was EXCELLENT 5. Couldn't even get a cup of coffee at the Restaurant. Either buy the complete buffet or NOTHING AGAIN- ROOM EXTREMELY DATED, linens worn. All levels of the Hotel beyond the Lobby in disrepair

We got to the hotel after a long drive from Key West around 9:30 PM after over 30 minutes of waiting to get checked-in we were given a smoking room although our reservation was for a non-smoking room. When complained about the room smell, we were told that the entire floor is a smoking floor. Then why were we checked-in on that floor???? After another hour of going up and down on the single available elevator for the entire hotel (during their busiest week of the year - Christmas - New Year) we were given what can be classified the worst available room on the floor - next to the elevator, snack machine, ducked in a corner with the day light barely coming through. By midnight I was exhausted and my husband was running with fever and I gave up dealing with the front desk and finding a decent non-smoking room. We wanted to have a hot shower and an aspirin and rest for the night. I am not a picky person and I am very forgiving when I travel, but this was one of the worst and unpleasant experiences - hair all over the room - bed sheets , bathroom; paint peeling off the doors; only 2 face towels, 2 hand towels and 3 bath towels. Next morning people were waiting 15-20 minutes to take the elevator, only one working elevator to the entire full hotel. We used the stairs (very dirty and unclean) for the entire stay. On the check-out day we had to ride the elevator up just to be able to go down with the suitcases.

The hotel was old, there was constructions just next to our room and floor. Very noisy and annoying . We could not enjoy the view from the balcony because of the noise. There was only one elevator working, always busy to use it. We used to stay at another Riu hotel, but this one on Florida was very bad.

This is an OK hotel to stay, nothing to boast off. It's NOT VALUE FOR MONEY, we have stayed in hotels which are way better for considerably less prices as compared to Riu. WiFi & Elevator were not working in hotel for both the days we stayed in the hotel during the peak Xmas season.

We had worst night in our life with no sorry at all!!! When we were going to our room all the rooms on the way to our room on 10th floor were open, empty and under major renovation ours was last. It felt very wierd & unsafe passing all the construction guys and tools and mess! They changed the room But the room which was given was very dirty and had horrible sharp smell of mold or something! we were told don't worry go enjoy we will switch the room as we didn't stay in the room at all when we checked in when we returned back in mid might we were told they have no idea what we r saying and the room was same so we went up but the keys were changed and we had to go down again and get new keys! And when we finally entered the room it had same dirty smell and the bathroom was very dirty with sticky urine all over the toilet. Front desk was super rude & yelled it is impossible for the bathroom to be dirty and there is no housekeeping available in the evening and he can't change the room or do anything about the smell and refused to provide cleaning and extra blanket or pillow We were really choking with filthy smell and couldn't use bathroom it was very late when we came back so we had no choice We couldn't even sleep there and as soon as it was morning we checked out even though we had booking for 2 days! No one cared why we r checking out earlier than what we paid for!

Room walls are thin, you can hear people talking , coughing, you name it. We were on 7 th floor , I was surprised to hear traffic . Stayed 1 night only. If I would return would choose another hotel. Or if you rent bring ear plugs. People are coming and going all hours with interruption to sleep. If rest is not on your list, this place would be fine.

Location was excellent! Right on the beach and a few blocks from Lincoln ave.However we switched rooms immediately due to construction racket on our floor. But the staff was friendly and accommodating. Overall it was a good stay.

We showed up to the hotel after booking online early and we thought they we so nice by letting us check in early due to our long trip and we were so ready for a shower an a nap. Once checked in and paying for the valet parking we realized we left an item in the car. Make a note: you are NOT allowed access to your car in te garage. You will have to pay valet again to have them bring your car to you at the front to get the item and then pay again to have them park the vehicle back in the garage. Upon enterin the room we noticed it was very dirty and moldy. They had true to update it but only the beds looked the clean. The bathtub was brown from use with huge (what I can only describe as burn spots) spots all over the bottom. We proceeded to unpack and when my husband went to get in the shower only a trickle of water came out and the toilet would not flush. I immediately calle the front desk and they said they were performing routine maintenance on the plumbing in the hotel and it should be going better soon. We decided we could deal with the trickle just to get somewhat if a shower in. Well, when I went to take a trickle shower all of a sudden there was absolutely no water. When I made another call to the front desk the informed me there would e no water until 4 pm (3 hours from that time) and we should be grateful they let us check in early. So my husband decided to go get some bottled water or something for us to drink and when e asked the front desk where he could get some they let him know he could walk three blocks to a concur menace store to get something as they have nothing at the hotel. What???? She said "it is not that far to walk sir." So when my husband comes back upstairs to let me know we needed to go somewhere, he walks in the door and water started pouring through te ceiling. Needless to say we packed up and left after paying the valet again to go and get our car. When I informed the front desk that they may want to check our room as it was flooding fr

The hotel lobby was outstanding!!!! The rooms was mediocre..it reminded me of a Holiday Inn... I didn't like the fact you have to pay for Wi-Fi when most upscale hotels offer complimentary WiFi....I'm an avid traveler & everywhere I have stayed WiFi has been free

We stayed at the Riu' for one night. After our cruise we wanted to see Miami Beach, then to Key West. After rambling around the city, the Riu' was good enough to spend one night.

Rooms are definitely dated but if you're not in them a lot it's an ok place to stay. Pool and outdoor bar area is a big plus and it's right on the beach. The views are fantastic, especially sunrise. Close to south beach but definitely a cab or bus ride. Staff was great from my experience.

As someone who has also stayed at the ritz in sobe and paid dearly for it I can tell you the riu for the price I paid was a steal... This time traveling with kids the pool and the beach were the biggest draw... Both were great...and with the boardwalk right out back it leads to many options for dining etc. I will say the staff were not quick to jump to meet you to grab your bags or get a taxi , I actually had to ask (gasp !!) which may have one thinking the service is lacking but in reality what I saw is they were pretty busy and for the price on the ocean I'm not surprised.. I had booked a standard double but was upgraded to a balcony , while it was decent we didn't spend much time in the room.. It needed updating but it served our purpose...also no safe or mini bar... If you are someone who likes to spend a lot of time "in" the room of your hotel this may not be the way to go... But if your room is merely a resting point and love a nice resort with a pool and ocean that is well kept I would not hesitate to recommend for that and families ( there's also a separate kiddie pool)
