Have stayed in several hotels in Mannheim and surrounding area. This was definitely the best since it provided clean rooms, good service and a quiet and green neighbourhood. The neighborhood is a little out of the way, meaning there are few restaurants or other facilties nearby, but it is a short taxi ride to the station. I recommend it especially for stays of one to three nights.

It was a great place to stay, only FINDING it with the GPS was difficult as all the one-way streets were not marked. We drove and drove around and around. The hotel is not marked prominently so that it can be seen from the street.

It is the oldest private structure in Heidelburg, and the only Romantic era building the French spared when they sacked the city -- because it was a hotel designed and built by a Frenchman. Hotel Ritter is steeped in history, and one of the most photographed sights in town. It is not a great HOTEL by modern standards... it isn't air conditioned, the […] rooms are eccentric in shape and size (no two are quite the same) and it is priced much higher than comparible hotels in the area. But it has that history thing going for it. The staff were nice, the rooms were fine, we enjoyed the stay. Would have enjoyed it more at a lower price. ;-) Be sure and check out the second and third floor common areas. Read more

The hotel was OK, adequate, but not as nicely restored as some other older buildings i've stayed in. The windows were poorly painted and drafty, but everything was clean and functional. There was just no wow factor to the interior of the building.

The Hotel Ritter St. George is the oldest private building in the city. While the interior has been extensively (and not to impressively) remodeled, it is still comfortable. Unfortunately, the restaurant closes early and so I didn't get to try the food, but it looked good. Very close to the castle and university.
