I found all of the Staff to be pleasant

Had a wonderful view of the marina from our room. Continental breakfast was included in the reasonable rate and there was free access to a computer. This hotel is in a very convenient location not far from LAX.

My Wife and I are repeat guests of The Marina Del Ray, and have witnessed many improvements over the past few years. Although some of the carpeting may be worn, we have never complained about cleanliness. Considering the wonderful views and location, we find the hotel to be a great value. So much so that we just booked another 4 nights in March. One hint….Try to upgrade to a deluxe marina view room. The deluxe offers a generous balcony with a great view of the marina. One last note, we have always found the staff to be friendly and courteous. The front desk staff is always trying to please

quiet location in marina.Was puti ground floor room next to reception. Patio doors not very secure room a bit tired. Niose from reception kept one of us awake as light sleeper.Moved us with know problem for second night to third floor much nicer decor and quiet

Considering other hotels in the area are pricier, this was a good value. The location felt safe, parking was easy and free, and close to Santa Monica. The view made it feel more special. I would go back. The only negative was that the old window let in the wind slightly, but the curtains seemed to block it sufficiently when closed. The bathroom doesn't have an exhaust fan but it was clean and somewhat upgraded to look modern.

As many reviews said , the rooms definitely need updating. The hotel is very clean, rooms are a good size, could just use new carpet and wallpaper. Bed is comfortable. Ask for non-smoking rooom, one of our family members rooms smelled very , very smokey! We had requested the third floor due to reviews about noise and we were very happy. A full breakfast was included everyday which we enjoyed, eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, cereal, rolls muffins etc. The staff was very, very friendly. The location is beautiful!We felt it was well worth the monay and met our needs.

Very friendly staff in the hotel and restaurant, and food was excellent. Location is great, just ten minutes from LAX, and right on the water at the marina. However, the hotel is scheduled for a much needed renovation later this year (2009). Ceiling had water spots, granite countertop in bathroom was cracked, carpets had burns and spots, and walls and doors need repainting.

Needs improvements. Very tired Breakfast was included & was not told until I inquired on 2nd day.

Although the hotel building could use some better maintenance and upgrades, ie one outlet did not work and the patio doors need replacing, the overall experience was positive. Good complimentary breakfast and helpful staff.

A rather tired, old property that could do with some serious rehab. HOWEVER, the spacious room, comfortable bed, generous buffet breakfast, and prime location make this a bargain at the price. And the sunset over the marina is something to see. Get a room on the top (third) floor if possible; the floors squeak badly.

This hotel is quiet, and great value. don't expect razamataz, and the included breakfast is not exceptional, but well done.

Adequate accommodations for the money if you are looking for an isolated, quiet experience overlooking the marina and near Santa Monica with free parking. If you're looking for modern, up-scale accommodations, keep looking.

our stay in Marina del rey was very peaceful staying at the quiet hotel. The pool was lovely in Jan and what a treat to get all that sun in peaceful surroundings in the middle of the winter. The restaurant had really good fresh vegies also.

arrived very late christmas eve, restaurant was just about to close but the chef rustled us up some fries so we could go to bed with some food inside us, very friendly staff would recommend it

The hotel room was very nice but the true bonus was the balcony. Very large - could easily hold 6 adults - with fabulous views. Our balcony faced east with full morning sun sheltered from the wind. Even in Dec it was warm enough for swimsuit sunning on the balcony or at the pool below. It greatly expanded our room.

This hotel was very nice. The view from the room is amazing, over looking the ocean. They're nice clean rooms, and comfortable beds. Their bathrooms are also nice and clean. Very good quality service, staff are always nice. Overall this hotel was worth it. The location was close to santa monica which we wanted in the first place, but chose this hotel because of the price and location. Liked it very very much. recommended for vacationers.

I've stayed here a lot and five out of six rooms have leaky faucets, an iron impression in the carpet and dusty drapes. The front lobby check-in is SO manual you have to expect a long time to check-in. The area is great, safe, good walking paths and great restaurants but the hotel needs an upgrade!

This hotel is in a desperate need for upgrades. The carpet had iron burns, I could hear the people walking over me. I thought the floor was about to cave in. I was not pleased with the way this hotel has been kept. They need to tear it down and rebuilt it. There is nothing modern about this hotel at all. All I paid for was the view!

Carpet a bit shabby. Patio indoor/outdoor carpet shredded. Drapes difficult to open and close on small sliders with drapes falling down couple of places. Very quiet-outstanding view of harbor. Poor TV reception-unable to view Lakers game being played in LA! Need sports channel access. Otherwise, we were satisfyied. Thanks

The hotel is a little old and could use some upgrades in the rooms along the lines of carpets and television but it was comfortable enough. The view of the harbor is nice and its quiet. Stayed there once will probably stay there again.

We got a 2nd floor room the 1st night & got woke at 3:30 am by room above us running around room, talking, tv noise, having sex. Was very unpleasant. Also the bed was very soft. Next morning we requested a 3rd floor room, which was a lot nicer, quiet & firmer bed. We stayed there an additional 3 nights.

I saw the worrisome reviews on this site but decided to risk it due to the price and the location. I live here in LA and needed a room for family visiting from back the midwest and I thought they'd enjoy being on the water. Although they weren't arriving in town until later in the evening, I arrived at 3pm to check-in as I took the advisde of another reviewer and asked for a top floor room so they would'nt hear noise from above; they accomodated this request AND gave me a marina-side room, which was nice of them. The room was mostly clean for the most part (huge stain in the carpet and a few other things) but very outdated. The air conditioning didnt work and they promised to send someone to fix it before the arrival of my family; it never worked well during their entire visit. We were alarmed that the nice big picture window didnt have a screen or any kind of saftey rail; had anyone triped, they would have fallen 3 floors down. The hotel made a HUGE mistake and put a hold on my credit card for $849 for "incidentials," instead of $50. It took at lot to convince the woman at the front desk that this wasn't a hold by hotels.com, but rather their mistake. She promised to call back, but never did so. I called again the next day and left a message for the accountant who never called me back either. Luckily, the hold was taken off 3 days after they did this, but I had no access to my money until this was corrected. Not good, and no apology. The hotel seemed rather full; many europeans were staying there and Stanford had some bandmembers staying there during a game at the Rose Bowl, which is quite a distance from the hotel. Overall, the price IS a deal compared to other area hotels on the water, but had I paid full price as stated on their website, I'd be furious with the condition of the place.

Can't beat the location. Better view than the very expensive, luxury hotel down the street! Rooms are a little old and tired, buy if they fixed it up it would no longer be affordable.

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The rooms were not fancy, but definitely sufficient. The patio and marina view were nice touches. The restaurant at the hotel had some good dishes. However, by far the biggest draw for us was the location! It is close to Venice, Santa Monica, LAX and not too far from Downtown or Hollywood.

I've stayed at better hotels. Comfort Inn was 10 times more updated than the Marina del Rey Hotel.

The hotel badly needs to be remodeled. The ice machines on the first and second floors were not working! The room had a musty smell to it! The pay channel did not work and after waiting over an hour for a technician, the pay channel still did not work. We called for another room and the desk attendant said he would get us one and call back. After another hour we called the front desk and he had gone home for the day and had not given the task to someone else. They then showed us another room, but the pay for channel did not work in that room either! We finally looked down the hallway and the room across from us was being cleaned and my husband checked to see if the pay channel worked and it did. We called the front desk again and after another long wait the moved us to this room! Would never go back!!!!!

Since the hotel is near the water, it smells old. The room, at least three of the rooms I've stayed in, have an iron stain on the carpet. All the carpets need to be replaced and the furniture upgraded.

If you are looking for a decent affordable hotel in Marina Del Rey or close to Santa Monica, this one will suffice. After staying in many nicer hotels in the area and paying a slightly higher rate, I would most definitely pay a little more to stay somewhere nicer. The room was clean, but there were obvious signs of age: stains on the carpet, lamination worn away on the furniture, scuffed and scraped baseboards, etc. The bedding was visibly clean and the bed comfy. The bathroom was old with sliding shower doors that were a bit cumbersome. The showerheads were the bad lo flow kind and didn't make for a luxurious morning shower. I switched rooms twice due to my first room being a smoking room (that I didn't ask for) and the second room had a motor that ran all night on the roof creating a loud humming sound in my room. I tried to switch that one before i went to bed, but there were no other rooms available for that night. I "slept" in the humming room for the first night and they moved me to a more quiet room for the remaining two nights. Parking was easy and convenient, oh, and free, which is nice. Wifi is also free and fairly speedy. Overall, an OK hotel for a reasonable price.

Great location, hotel needs updating carpet and beds.

We stayed here over the Labor Day weekend. It was very convenient, being close to Venice and Santa Monica and LAX. The hotel is older, but well maintained. The staff is friendly. The rooms are good sized. The sheets were scratchy, but apart from that, the room was comfy. No "modern" amenities (workout equipment, business center, etc.). The pool was nice, clean and heated. This all worked very well for us, as we did little more than sleep (and occasionally swim) here. The rate was good, too.

The staff was very friendly at this hotel and we got a good night's sleep. We only had two complaints: 1) our non-smoking room smelled like smoke. however, we were able to alert staff and were not charged. 2) the coffee made us both feel ill for the rest of the morning.

I had stayed at this hotel 24 years ago --not much has changed but it is still a great place to visit. It's a quiet location on the marina - with windows or balconies that open to see breezes - and the staff is classically SoCal laid back but friendly and helpful However, the hotel is showing its age - paint can't hide the years of use so it is due for a refresh. The basic functions work but climate control didn't so I was gratefully for the balcony & sea breezes. It's a great escape from the hubbub of LA, near enough to Venice and its beaches.

Despite arriving from Connecticut and not having a room, due to a mix-up with Hotels.com, the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They put us up in another hotel for the night and the next day we had our room. The room was spacious and comfortable with a view of the marina. A great hotel for a reasonable price.

In June and July, I stayed on two different occasions in a balcony 3rd floor room overlooking the marina. The staff: from bellhop to front desk to housekeeping was extremely cool, cooperative and friendly, making these (2) experiences (my bday and 4th of july!)warm and fuzzy for me and my friends! Views from lobby, my room, and public areas were fantastic. Helpful staff could direct me to water taxis, restaurants and bike paths. I had two great "staycations" close ot home! Right arm!

The hotel is in a very nice location. However it is old and needs updating in the rooms.

Overall the hotel was very nice, however my Husband & myself had a hard time getting any sleep as the people above us were constantly making noise & banging stuff from late at night till early morning. We complained a few times to the Hotel desk, but unfortunately it did not help. If you are planning on not sleeping great choice, otherwise be prepared to bring earplugs!

EXCELLENT food at the restaurant and wonderful service. I found everyone to be very friendly and accommodating.

The Hotel could use some updating but overall the location is great and walking distance to a lot of fish restaurants. There is a walking path around the bay so exercise is plenty.

The hotel is really trying to keep the place clean, but the wear and tear on the room makes it a little impossible. The carpet was matted, stained and kind of weirdly sticky. Everything else was really clean -- especially the bathroom. But as long as I was frightened to walk on the carpet in bare feet, I have to say I was disappointed in my stay.

I was so pleased when I checked in,I booked at the last minute and loved the way the hotel looked and my room was so nice and I had a fantastic view of the marina.There were other hotels for the same price that had reviews that weren't too appealing.I can't wait to go back!

The room was very lovely. The only improvement would be the latch needs replacement on the sliding glass door leading out to the patio. We were able to sit on the patio to watch boats sail by as we had a drink and snack in the evening. It was a very relaxing experience.

Just a bad night, I'm sure...leak in the bathroom ceiling. No rooms to move because the hotel is booked. Maintenance spent one and half hours trying to figure out...at 10:00 p.m. Anyway, overall great views of sailboats and yachts.

Second stay, different wing. Looks like they may have done some improvements since January. Convenient to LMU campus, beach, grocery, and Starbucks.

This hotel is in very bad shape. The wallpaper is coming loose, carpets are stained, and the TV is from the 1970's.

Wonderful hotel located in a beautiful Marina. The staff was exstreemely helpful and nice. We has made a tour in US and only lived in 4 star hotels. This was the first 3 star and it was far nicer than any 4 star we had. The location is just fantastic if you like to have a waterview see nice boats swim in the pool etc.

If you stay on the second floor..you can clearly hear the footsteps and voices of the occupants above you.Often in the AM you can hear the vacuum in the hallway..we tried to sleep in..because we CANT at home. Sheets had stains. Iron burn marks on carpet. Cleaning service was prompt..breakfast was good (room service 14.50 for bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, toast, coffe/oj) So if your gonna stay at this hotel..the 3rd floor is KEY>>>>>Not many TV channels to watch more like 12 channels..we stayed in our room a lot...it was a anniversary weekend getaway from home. Even though it was kinda cheap hotel for the price--we tried to rest up as much as we could...The bathroom was clean...

The hotel staff was very friendly, and helpful. Any request I had was taken care of quickly and happily. The location is great. Beautiful view of the marina. Easy access to great restaurants and the beach. I like the place allot. The owners just need to do a better job of reinvesting in the property. The carpets had many stains and badly sewn patches. The furniture also had lots of stains. The bathroom drop ceiling needed to have tiles replaced. It just had the feel of a tired property that has lots of potential. I don't think economical and dirty need to be the same thing. Good Luck.

We were suppose to have a non smoking room. The blankets on the bed had cigarette burns. The sinks were backed up including the toliet. The other guests in the hotel woke us up a few times in the middle of the night. We had a balcony with a great view but the people that own boats had parties and also made lots of noise thru out the night. We had no rest.

For a hotel right on the water, with all basic amenities and a few niceties, I thought it was excellent value. I would stay there again.

Rooms are terribly. Unless you like water logged run down stained smelly falling apart furniture with rugs full of burns and stains. The only thing good about the hotel is the staff.

Needs a serious renovation, furniture falling apart and disgusting,carpet full of stains, drapes full of stains, priced way to high for condition.Don't even take off your shoes

The rooms are old and not in good repair. The air conditioning was loud and didn't cool the room. The worst thing was that the floor above us squeaked so bad that we had to move the next night to the top floor. As my wife got in bed, there was a huge bug crawling on her pillow. I never complain about rooms, but this one was over the top.

It seems the hotel is going through a bit of reorganization at the moment. They bar/rest. area was understaffed everytime we tried to dine. Also, I am a native Californian and half hispanic, but not very little spanish. The staff should have a better understanding of the english language. They were eager to please, but just couldn't communicate in english very well.

nice enviroment and good value In need of upgrade as is 70s style but of course that will mean rate increases and then it will mean a totally different execise. best they leave it as is. If you are on the ground floor,first floor traffic is very noisy.

Room was exceptionally clean. Check-in and check-out was fast. Free coffee and snacks in the lobby. Nice restaurant and bar. Easy parking. Great pool area. Be sure to ask the front desk for the free breakfast coupon. I would like to have seen an overstuffed chair in the room. I plan on staying here again.

Lovely hotel in a great location, especially because it is so close to the airport in LA, yet you never hear a plane. The neighborhood is charming with good restaurants and easy access to the beach.

We did not spend much time in the room but when we were there the view was great, liked the bathroom layout for multilple people in the room.

OLD carpet and decor! Siverfish in the bathroom. Room was clean but old looking! Room was noisy! BUT Great view!!!!!!

I was booked for a city view room, but the staff were nice enough to upgrade me to the marina view since they were not fully booked during the week of my stay. The hotel was very nice overall, the only improvement I would make would be to the water. My shower had really strong water pressure, while a friend said hers was kind of weak. I guess that's what happens in an older hotel - things like that can be a bit "iffy" - but at least everything worked and the staff were very friendly.

I know that the hotel is doing renovations but the carpeting in my room was filthy. I didn't want to walk on it without shoes on. There was not even a piture hanging on the walls - just blank white walls. Other than that, the hotel was nice. I loved walking around the marina and the employees were great. Everyone I passed said good morning - even if they were scrubbing the sidewalks they would stop and acknowledge me. Customer Service was excellent.

Managers and front desk people are first rate. Hotel under new ownership and management. It needs a major overhaul of the room decor: it is clean and usable however. Food is good but overpriced- a dollar or two off would make it a good value. Free parking and no valet- this is good. Easy, free,frequent, access to your vehicle. Nice area for walks; shopping center just 2-3 blocks away.

it was like a valentine's gift for my friend. we had a great time. did a lot of walking around the marina. The weather was just perfect! Went to Tony P's for dinner and that wasn't far either. just a wonderful time

The ambience was relaxing and warm. Loved the apples at the front desk and the cookies in the afternoon. In comparison to other hotels in the area, we felt we had the best place for our time and money.

Marina Del Rey Hotel is situated in a fantastic location. The staff are nice enough (service is good and friendly but not great). That however may be the best this hotel has to offer. Rooms have paper-thin walls and ceilings. You can hear pretty much everything step, every water use of neighbors above. Hotel is getting old. Taps drip and the room just feels worn. Overall, the hotel is not worth the money (although my prices were probably increased because of time of year) and is in need of a complete makeover..

Room was clean and staff was helpful. The pool seemed nice but i didn't use it. Quick and convenient check out. Would stay again and would recommend it.

We needed an inexpensive hotel for our recent holiday trip to Los Angeles. I've tried many different options in the past ranging from cheap and practically uninhabitable, to overpriced, and this is by far the best buy I've found. We had to book the cheapest possible room and it was still very posh, cozy, and well maintained. Best of all was the view of the boats from the window (every room in the hotel seems to have a beautiful view) and the sound of sea gulls. I really enjoyed staying at this hotel.
