    1. Service wasn't great. a. Had to stand at front desk for 15 minutes while the desk clerk messed around with the computer, assisting another guest. b. Maids didn't come clean our room until 3:30 pm. We asked if they could come in the morning, and they acted like we asked for the moon. 2. Neighbourhood was seedy. The hotel is directly across the street from a dirty movie theatre. Lots of homeless people hanging around. 3. On a positive note, the hotel is very close to the BART station, lots of buses, walking distance from Union Square, and not far from Chinatown.

I think what people need to keep in mind is that the Renoir Hotel is a historical vintage hotel. I overlook the bums and shit like that because just a few blocks away is the best shops ever. Appreciate the fact that this hotel has preserved many of it's original fetures. I thank the bar owner and bartenders at the bar connected to the Renoir. They took my friend and I in and made us feel at home in San Francisco. That was one of the dumbest times ever ..... And it could not have been done without the two cutest female bartenders. Thanks to the guys working there too!!!!! The DJ rocked. I think I owe you guys some cash though. I will be back.! So pull out what you want from the hotel. Don't compare it to the moder hotels you stay at now. Just enjoy it's originality and uniqueness. It's like staying in a hotel back in the '40's. Remember ......it's vintage.

When I read that this hotel was renovated in 2008, I expected updated clean rooms. What I got was a room where they'd painted the tub with the incorrect paint so that it was peeling. Additionally the windows were nailed to prevent us from opening the windows too much. Also, the lobby chairs were filthy and I have significant doubts about the cleaniness of the rooms overall. Honestly, I could have stayed at a Motel 6 for half the price and gotten the same results.

I stayed here with a friend of mine. The Staff was very nice. The Hotel it's self was nice enough. The surrounding area is one of the worst areas in San Fran which I did not know until I met up with a friend who lives in San Fran. I assume its because of all the homeless people in the area and there are A LOT!!! It's prob. not the safest to go wondering around at night. The hotel is close to a lot of sites. My friend and I walked to the financial district, fisherman's wharf, and the golden gate bridge from the hotel. There is lots of store for shopping about 3 blocks down. The hotel rooms did have a prob. with the hot water. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for families or for stays longer then two days and be prepared to pay $27 a day for valet parking. you may actually be better of staying at a hotel the is more expensive, but includes parking if you have a car. Other wise for a younger crowed that will have guys with its a ok place for the money.

Thank you for your review. Homelessness is indeed a problem in San Francisco. It is quite obvious in the area that the Renoir Hotel is located at because several food and shelter services for the homeless people are located nearby. Yet as you experienced yourself, the hotel is close to a lot of attractions. As long as for the valet parking service of the hotel, please keep in mind that it for the San Francisco standards it is very affordable since street parking is very costly and needs your constant attention because of the parking meter limitations. Also all the hotels in the area charge a fee for a parking service and most of them do not own a parking area since all the buildings were built before the middle for the 20th century.

There were many things that need to be done to the hotel, The staff needs their attitudes adjusted. When asked about parking arrangements, there was a lot aggitation that came from it. They were really short and quick to answer. There was no open parking garage. The neighborhood was pretty GHETTO, full of hobos around. My pillows had stains on them and there wasn't enough blankets in the room. There was supposed to be a complimentary iron inside the room, but I had to call the help desk to obtain one and they said "Are you going to come down?"

I don't even know where to begin. Their description stated that they were located near by Union Square/Financial District Area. When I got to this place, I found myself in a war zone with homeless people harassing everyone on the street (not to mention going to the bathroom right on a sidewalk). They had 2 elevators and only one of them was operational with a wait time of 10 minutes after you press the call button. Carpeting in hallways was stained with substances I couldn't figure out. Some hotel guests on our floor were smoking marijuana and the management didn't seem to care. Water pressure in the bathroom was a joke, I had to finish my shower by filling up ice bucket with water and pouring it on myself since the pressure in a shower couldn't do the job. At night outside the hotel homeless people were getting drunk and yelling and screaming all night long and nobody gave a damn about that. This place is located in the tenderloin district of San Francisco so stay there at your own risk, I know I won't ever again.

Would stay there again, however, hopefully they will improve on the 'Towels'; They were quite flimsy. Also, elevator slow, need to be patient. All in all, hotel was nice and would stay there again, eventhough, surrounding area a bit seedy, but is close to many popular destinations, which was our main concern.

Great location close to shopping and bus/trolley lines. Homelessness is somewhat a problem but we had good experiences. The hotel staff was nice when we checked in but it took over an hour to get our lugguge up to our room and after calling three times for it. I would give them another chance. The lounge was awesome!

The Renoir is a good hotel for the world or budget traveler with few expectations. Convenient location and price may not outweigh noise from the adjacent Market street--and not a place for children to linger after dark. The young staff is helpful and very courteous. We'd stay again if in a pinch. We're both over 45. What didn't work? Internet connection in 7th floor room, TV remote, fan, and no refrigerator if you buy groceries.

    1. Room needs to be redone (walls, faucets, etc.) 2. Carpets are a total mess. Redo them 3. Elevator is slow and one of them is not working. Takes forever to get a ride. 4. Located in a very unsafe area. There is a homeless shelter right next door. 5. Wireless is $9.99/day for unlimited access. Must be free. 6. You can hear flushes of toilet from all rooms around you. 7. Water pressure is totally nil. Will take forever to take a shower !! 8. Coffee from the machine downstairs is horrible. 9. Soda from the machine was warm. 10. Room heater and iron is available on request. 11. Bar was out of service. However, the service was ok, any request I gave was attended by the front desk in a reasonable time.
