The hotel in general is ok. It could use some improvements like changing the beds. They we so uncomfortable, my back hurted. If you're looking for a hotel where you can walk to the beach and swim, this is not the place. But if you like quiet...this is the place. Not as much tourists as in PoiPu (beautiful beaches).. and probably not as cheap. For the price we paid, not a bad hotel at all.

The hotel is clean, and the room was clean. Decor is updated unlike condos you can find in the area. Pictures posted on hotels.com is exactly what I got. Only complaint I have is that the room that I was given had a musty smell. I called the front desk and they offered a new room right away. Local is good, within walking distance from major supermarket (Foodland) and restaurants. 15 minute drive from the airport. In the middle of north and south Kauai. Would definitely stay here again!

We had 2 different rooms in this resort because the first room had a damp smell to it, but the second room was great! The hotel service was VERY good. We had to check out at noon but our flight off the island wasn't until 4 pm so the hotel offerred us a free "hospitality room" to shower in before getting on our flight. This allowed us to go snorkling one more time before flying home.

for a hotel in kuaui, this place was great! there were restaurants in the area, there is a scenic waterfall about 4 miles away and the beach was right outside my window. The facilities were very nice and clean and there are many options within the hotel itself as far as extra activities including a spa, pool, etc. We ate breakfast the next morning outside on a patio with an all you can eat buffet and the food was excellent! over all, i would highly recommend this hotel!

Hotel was okay, certainly not a 3.5 star, more like a 2 or 2.5. Pros: the "kids eat free" promotion, breakfast buffet, free parking, right on the beach, within walking distance to the Coconut MarketPlace and other areas. Cons: $12/day resort fee for what you got for it, the room smelled like mildew, the pool furniture was falling apart and lacking, the pool was small, main restaraunt not open all day (only during breakfast and dinner), some guests were loud and someone tried to open the door to our room from the adjoining room in the middle of the night, which was unnerving.

The beach views are killer, but the actual beach is so-so. There are ,lots of rocks but it's a quick drive to some of the nicer, larger beaches nearby. The location is great. Close to lots of restaurants, stores and shops. I would definitely stay here again!

Everything was at or above my expectations. The staff are very friendly, the views are great, and the room was very clean and nice. My only complaint is the $12 per day "resort fee", which was not mentioned in the advertised room price, and got added on top of everything when I checked in. This was mighty annoying. The resort fee is supposed to cover parking and internet, but in reality just appears to be a ruse to get you to pay a little more than you wanted to.

Aston or Resort Quest - nobody seemed to know for sure. The VERY lean running staff of the hotel were pleasant and helpful, but in short supply. There was an add-on "resort fee" that we learned had to pay on top of our hotels.com rate upon arrival for valet parking - but the one valet was never there and the wait for cars was so long we immediately gave over to self-parking. Again, not the fault of the very friendly staff. The room was under-lit and a bit gloomy after 10:00am when the sun was higher in the sky. One light bulb was out and one shade was missing entirely - a bit odd. The hotel itself was a moderate size and located well for access to both ends of the island, but we weren't excited by any food or activities within 20 minutes either direction. The only hotel food we ate was a very bad pesto pizza I had to pick up at he bar (no room service). Still - our deluxe oceanfront room was within 100 feet of the ocean, large, and had a working fridge. If we hadn't moved on to another hotel later in the week, we would probably have been fairly happy atwith this room. Sadly, after we went north, it was quickly forgotten. Note on locale: After being on the island, the east shore is probably the least desirable place to stay. The beaches are not swimmable and have no snorkeling at all. Bike path is good for about 30 minutes of riding only - don't rent for a full day!

The ocean-facing room we had was very comfortable and clean. Far better than what we expected for the price. Nice pool (not heated) and beach front. There were resturants and shopping near by. The staff was polite and helpful. It is fairly centrally located on the island so that even the farthest points of interest along the main highway on the island were roughly no more than a 30 minute drive in either direction (Napahli coast is another story - isolated on North shore). Sorkeling on Poipu was a quick drive, for example. Given the lush background, you really don't think about the distance of the drive anyway. It may not have all the ammenities of an all exclusive resort, but if you want a very nice room to get a good night's rest in and use as a base of operations for your exploration of the island, i would highly recommend staying at the Aston Kauai Beach at Makaiwa formerly ResortQuest.

When we checked in, we tried 3 different rooms and chose the least mildewy. I can't believe how overpowering the smell was in a couple of rooms. Service was very understanding and atempted to accomodate us. My first stay in Kauai, so maybe all the hotels are like this due to the rain.
