As we were exiting the hotel to retrieve our car at the valet stand, the front desk manager, who was leaving for the day, noticed that the valet service person was away on another call and she took personal responsibility for our needs and brought our car to us. Wow, what service! We knew we chose the right hotel, and we were not disappointed our entire stay.

This hotel exceeded my expectations. I chose it for (a) its proximity to my conference location, (b) its price and (c) the free wireless. I was pleasantly suprised to find that it was so beautiful, comfortable - and eco-friendly. All of the toiletries are toxin-free and they recycle everything they can - a first for me at a hotel. The hotel was immaculate, all of our needs were accommodated, and the bistro in the hotel had excellent food and reasonable prices. I would definitely stay here again.

Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Nov 2, 2009
The two main missing features of the hotel are they're missing a business center and guest accessible laundry facilities. A pool and/or hot tub would have been nice, but not essential. Otherwise, it was very good. Food, proximity to necessary attractions, helpfulness of staff, cleanliness, etc. all were above average.

I was placed on the 8th floor b/c I was attending a law school reunion. However, the first evening, before the reunion, the staff of this hotel disrupted sleep for all guests on the 8th floor by rearranging tables and chairs on the 9th floor. I called the front desk at 1:30AM but the noise continued for another 45 minutes. I cannot believe that any staff member could not have known that their actions were causing such a disruption. The next AM several guests in the elevator were discussing this nonesense that was very easily avoided.

I made a reservation for a room with a Queen bed for my anniversary. When I checked into the hotel they said there weren't any Queen beds left so we would have to stay in a room with two double beds. This was very dissatisfying. The clerk said they would give me a room on the highest floor available to make up for it. When we got into the room it was only on the 5th floor out of 9 floors. I thought the view might make up for it, but when I opened the curtains all I saw was the wall of another building and an ally. It was a nice hotel, but I was very disappointed. Also, parking was very expensive.

The hotel was decorated well, contemporary and modern. The mattress was really comfortable. The air thermostat was broken so it was a bit difficult to get the right room temp. The elevator is going through an update, so was extremely slow. Parking was expensive and only valet is available. We did really like the hotel itself. The location was good and it was very clean. We would definitely recommend it for couples in their 30's who like to retreat but are close enough to nightlife and dining to walk.

We loved our stay over the Labor Day Weekend at the Bristol. The hotel is quiet; all the other guests seemed nice and respectful. It was conveniently located to nightime restaurants in the GasLamp district (without being so close that the street noice becomes a problem when sleeping), it's close to Balboa Park museums, and a walk to the Embarcadero. We rented a car and made day trips to La Jolla, Del Mar, and Coronado island. The parking fee fairly increases the overal price of the hotel rate so be sure to factor that in if you rent or park your car. Overall it was a great and comfortable experience.

Being located in downtown San Diego, I expected any room to be a little pricey, but I got the standard room at a great discounted rate. I wouldn't have stayed there if I had to pay full price for the room considering valet parking is ridiculously expensive! It cost almost $30 a day to park in the hotel garage! The room was very well decorated with a contemporary style. The location is great; I walked around everyday to go eat breakfast and dinner. I would recommend this hotel to anyone as long as they don't have to pay the regular hotel rates that don't even include parking.

The Bristol has very cool, modern decor, which make the small rooms comfortable. The beds are great! The cleaning service is awesome. The bathroom is ample. My room key worked (30% of the time). Luckily the cleaning lady was around alot and helped me out with it -- apparently there's a trick. The maintenance guy came out to clean the lock and change the batteries, but no avail. Only one elevator. This was problematic because we were moving from the 9th to 4th floor a lot. Even if we weren't the stairway goes straight to the street (no lobby access). The hotel restaurant service is limited. Limited hours. I was leaving and asked the front desk if we could come back at 10:45 AM and order food. She said of course. But, they close down the grill at 10:30 AM. Big bummer, because that was the day we needed a big breakfast before a 12:00 appointment at the hotel. I was really upset. They offered pastries and fruit, but that wouldn't have been enough. The front desk service is a little slow. I waited late at night, at least 10 minutes, for someone to show up to rekey my room. I waited for 10 minutes during the day for someone to check my bags in. They are honest! My friend left a very expensive dress in the hotel! She called the next day and they had the dress for her to pick up. I appreciate that!
