Convenient and remarkably cheap place within interesting area of Kansas City. Followed some reviewers' impressions and was not disappointed. Only stayed one night but would not hesitate to come back. Friendly staff. Rooms ok except INSANE FREEZING TEMPERATURE from airconditioner when we arrived. Basic breakfast buffet included. Certainly excellent return […] on the little money. "everything was great, but bathrooms need upgrade"
enjoyed the hotel and westport, would stay againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The front desk ppl were very rude. We paid for a king and r bed was a queen, when we asked about it they said that was their king. Comp breakfast, wifi and printing for tickets and shuttle within 5 miles was nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The website for the hotel is deceiving. Rooms are very outdated, smelled musty, and the bed was very old . This is the first time I have taken the time to do a review. The hotel was nothing what I expected.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We thoroughly enjoyed our staff and room. Great location for visiting Westport and Plaza areas of KC.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent Proximity to Westport"
Stayed two nights at 816 and it exceeded expectations. Staff was friendly and breakfast adequate. The room was an interesting baseball theme, which was unique if nothing else, and we could tell it was recently built/remodeled. Clean, comfortable, and quiet. However, the best feature was definitely its location on Westport...just a short walk down to […] some of KC's best eateries and nightlife! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel and location"
Very clean and comfortable room. They have remodeled recently and the hotel looks great, although there a few small details to be fixed (our bathroom door was cracked all around the edges). The breakfast omelets were delicious! All the staff were helpful and courteous. The neighborhood was fun and lively, with shops, restaurants and nightlife all within […] walking distance. We will definitely be back and would recommend to friends! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Could have been a better trip :/"
I liked the renovations at the hotel. We were hoping for a theme room but ended up in the family friendly Penguin room. We would have preferred a room with a mini fridge and microwave over bunk beds. We didn't like the tiny bath vanity and the tub had no ledge to put your products or your foot if you prefer to shave in the shower. Loved the shuttle […] service, free cocktails and omelets, however my car was broken into and nearly stolen off their lot. Need more security in their lot! Since the hotel was fully booked for the weekend we were turned out with an unworn car. Stressful end to a romantic getaway! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"1st Timer to KCMO"
Loved the hotel location. The KC Theme rooms were pretty cool. This was a mother daughter trip and felt very safe . Downtown shopping was minutes away. Staff had everything waiting for us when we arrived and we were able to go straight to our room. This will be our hotel of choice next time we visit Kansas City!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location, But damp"
Awesome location. Right near all the action. Room smelled of smoke. Tub in shower was damaged. Room was very damp. My socks felt wet after walking on carpet. Had to clean a very dirty Air Filter in the AC unit myself.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Way better than I expected"
I was in Kansas City to do some research at the National Archives. I picked the hotel because of the location and price. I was way better than I expected. Happy hour, decent breakfast, shuttle service, great room, in the historic Westport part of town. I walked around the neighborhood with out a care. The bars and restaurants were close and varied. […] A great say. The service was excellent and extremely helpful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Awesomely surprised by this new hotel"
We weren't sure at first because the price was so low and it was right by downtown. I was surprised by how clean this hotel was and how nice the breakfast was. I loved it. Will definitely stay again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I've stayed at this hotel several times. This was the first time i've stayed here since Holiday Inn sold the building and it was rebranded as 816 Hotel. I have to say that they have made some great updates to the hotel. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. I will continue to stay here because its a great price and location and I would […] recommend this to anyone for business or pleasure. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Be flexible & keep a positive attitude"
A handful of rooms have been remodeled, but the rest show the age of the hotel. Dingy bathtubs, non-working bathroom fans, old mattresses & a musty stench make this place reminiscent of a cheap motel. We were initially given a room that was gross, given a second that was in-use and the third was just sufficient for the single night we needed for sl […] eep. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very Nice Stay"
The room was clean, comfortable and quiet, cue to its upper-floor location (our friends on the 2nd floor were not happy with the noise). The breakfast had fresh fruit and what appeared to be home made yoghurt, very welcome additions to the standard breakfast fare, as well as custom omelets. The happy hour complimentary cocktails and the evening fresh-baked […] cookies were welcome, too. I can't say enough about the staff - very friendly and accommodating. Really a lovely stay. "Not what I expected"
08/28/14 Nina T Lincoln, Nebraska
I was expecting something much more grand, but it was a nice place. It was nicely decorated and the theme rooms were fun. Some theme rooms are more family targeted so be specific when making a reservation. Go early for breakfast or you will have to wait a while for your omelet. The omelet was delicious! There is no pool. My friend said the burgers next door were good. We had to wait a long time for the shuttle to pick us up, but they picked us up after hours so that was very nice of them!
Brandi made some great omelets and was great to talk to. She went above and beyond in not only making a great breakfast but also made sure to make us feel welcome. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Stayed at 816 for a week for training. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate all needs. The owner himself was on site and was personally attentive to the needs of the customers. From the front desk to time I checked out I was very impressed. Thank you
"Great value in a fun location"

We got bumped up to a theme room (blues musicians) so our room had a piano, several other musical instruments for decoration. It was a large room, and quiet at night despite a busy convention occurring during our visit. Literally only a short walk to Potpie or Bluestem restaurants which simplifies life. Repeat guests get a discount so we will be returning.

Excellent staff. Staff went out of their way to make the visit a great experience. Owner and manager were on site and all interacted wonderfully. Rooms were clean and bed was very comfortable. Zero complaints! If I find myself in KC again I will stay here.
"Boutique Hotel that's very good!"
08/18/14 Aaron L Kansas City, Missouri, United States
Stayed in the Boulevard Room recently, room was very nicely decorated. Bathroom however needed some upgrading. Mold around the bathtub and what appeared to be water damage on walls. Otherwise this was a great place to enjoy a weekend. Staff was wonderful to deal with and immediately responded to any issues. Happy Hour drinks were a great touch and Breakfast was nice with the Omelet Bar and Biscuits and Gravy! I'd stay here again!
"Creative rooms, friendly service"
08/18/14 Jason V Merriam, Kansas
A group I belong to held a weekend long event at the hotel. Since I'm a local, I knew the hotel was new and didn't know what to expect. The hotel was awesome. Westport is the pulse of the city and has things to do both young and old. The hotel has special rooms that showcase some of the amazing things I've grown to love about this city. The Boulevard room is perfect in a kitschy kind of way. The was boulevard refrigerator, and the nightstand was made of some of the barrels they probably use when the age their quad beer. Much like the newspaper itself, the KC Star room was bold. But the UMKC room was my favorite, blue and gold like the mighty "Roos." The drapes were made the school'a jerseys and their was a basketball hoop in case I got bored. As amazing as the rooms are, the staff is even better. Since I was helping to put in the above mentioned event, my room was chaotic. But that didn't stop the maids from making sure I still had a clean bathroom and linens. The front desk staff was nice and friendly, and responded very quickly when our group imposed upon them. I can't wait to book our event here again next year.
"National WWI Museum Room a Rare Experience"
08/18/14 TheGogglette Kansas City, Missouri
I stayed solo at the hotel for one night during the summer and was blown away by the customer service (thanks especially to Sophia, Claudette, and Donald!). This stay is all about experiencing Kansas City at a great price. Located in Westport, you're steps away from the thriving nightclub and restaurant scene in Kansas City. It's almost impossible to find parking at Westport on a busy weekend, so you've found a prime location to stay at 816 Hotel. As a young female traveler, I felt safe walking the neighborhood and going to/from the hotel and restaurant. The room I stayed in was one of the many themed corner rooms, highlighting the National World War I Museum in town. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the decor was startling in its elegance and respect for the Great War and the incredible stories that came from it. The artwork was all copies of collection pieces (even in the bathroom!) and the enormous mural on one of the walls of the Pantheon de la Guerre painting stood as an incredible conversation piece. I didn't turn the lights out for hours as I explored the room and the materials. Coffee mugs from the Museum are used instead of generic. Books, photographs, and a display of poppies really makes you have appreciation for the subject matter. The room is rich in color and culture, so I highly recommend it! The hotel is new and clean. I enjoyed wandering the halls and looking at massive murals of old Kansas City photos. The front-desk welcome was warm and the staff jumped to assist me with any questions or needs I had. This hotel provide extras that you wouldn't think about normally for this price. Omelets prepared in front of you at breakfast and free drinks at the bar. It really made me appreciate the care they take of their guests. They know exactly what a traveler needs and wants and they deliver.
"816 Hotel-Job Well Done"
08/18/14 David L Prairie Village, Kansas, United States
I had the pleasure of working with Donald Ray and his incredible team this past weekend at the 816 Hotel. Over the past few months the staff of the 816 Hotel were consummate professionals during the planning stages of the event. The weekend of the event proved that customer service was an essential element to what the 816 Hotel is all about. Sarah, Sophia, Mack, Robert, Curtis, Schaun, Jamie, Carl, Hussein, Paul and the many other staff members that worked behind the scenes to make our event happen demonstrated what a class act should be.
"Comfortable accommodations in Westport!"
08/18/14 Andy C Kansas City, Missouri, United States
As a business owner in Westport I've traveled past this hotel many times but this past weekend had a chance to stay there. What a great experience! The hotel is clean and polished and brimming over with Kansas City history. Our room was tidy and the oversized historic photos of The Country Club Plaza were fascinating as well as lovely decor. The breakfast provided was delicious and the staff were beyond friendly! The location is such that you can walk to Westport or 39th street to have dinner, sightsee and shop before a night of pleasant rest. I highly recommend this hotel.
