"Havn't stayed yet..."

I called to book for a wedding and they wanted me to pay more than what it cost to book their room online. They told me to book their room online which I did despite the "Book By Phone: We Will Beat Any Internet Rate You Can Find! 816-931-1000" Apparently they can't match their own internet rate! When I spoke to the bride I was informed that the price should be even less than what I booked online. I'm sure we will have a nice stay but I was a little disappointed by this experience so far.

I stayed at the 816 hotel for a few nights. I meet a real nice housekeeping lady. She smile all time and was a very polite person. I enjoyed her conversation and she clean my room really nice and I was amazed. She said her name was Michelle Gordon, so if anybody find there way there stay at the 816 Hotel, and look for Michelle can't miss her she's the little friendly lady.

"Great location; great staff"

We have stayed at this hotel when it was a holiday inn express many times. We were sad to see it go. That is, until we stayed there this weekend with the updated surroundings and staff. The location is excellent. The manager's reception was great - bartenders willing to help you select fun new drinks! Rooms very quiet. We missed the free breakfast, but if everything else about our stay is any indication, I am sure it was great too. Will definitely be back many times!!!!
"KC Historical Gem!"

If you are looking for a fun themed-room, learning more about KC history, and can tolerate an older hotel, then 816 is for you. There are 20 KC-themed hotel rooms, decorated by an association, society or museum (like the TWA room or the WWI museum room). Other rooms are regular hotel rooms with KC murals for wallpaper. The toiletries are nice, Tommy Bahama - smell great! The staff are wonderful, friendly, and helpful from the housekeeping crew, bar staff (ask TJ for her secret or a creeper at happy hour), breakfast/omelette makers (Brandy!), and front desk folks like Melanie who will recommend all types of wonderful places to eat, visit, and what not to miss like KC BBQ. We had a very pleasant stay. We booked through a 3rd party and requested one of the two airplane themed rooms and enjoyed the TWA room on the 6th fl. We paid the Govt rate of $106 which included breakfast. Breakfast is OK if you do a lot of processed foods like breads, cereals, muffins and pre-made pancakes. I asked Brandy what her omelette secret is because they were very fluffy and light...the eggs come pre-mixed so that was my first and last omelette! There is some whole fruit available, fresh cut fruit (probably canned?), good KC coffee with creamers and/or fresh milk in the little fridge. There are plenty of eateries and evening venues to explore in this historic area of KC. The shuttle will take you within a 4-5 mile radius as well so you can go further downtown to see Union Station and the National WWI Museum without a problem. Be sure to tip the drivers and sign up on the shuttle sheet as early/soon as you know your plans as it is a car, not a bus/mini-van so seating is limited as are pick-up and drop-off times.

Stayed here for a few nights to attend the Kansas film festival. Can't praise this hotel enough. Amazingly friendly and funny staff, great breakfast, comfortable room etc. If I ever come back to Kansas heading here. Thanks for a fantastic stay and hope to be back one day.
"Ok, but Beware of Up Selling Tactics"
11/19/14 jschuman St Louis
Ok hotel, but I had 2 issues that has caused me not to re-book again. First, they do a hard up-sell when you call them. All over the web, they say to "call in and you will get a better rate than online", however they are really just trying to hard up-sell you to the more expensive rooms. Second, I fell for the $50 up-sell and book the beer room which I was told included a beer sample in the room. Upon arriving, our beer room had no beer, so we called the front desk. The answer was, the in room beer sample was an optional upcharge for the beer room. What? I already paid the $50 to get the beer room and now there is more charges on top of that. If you are staying here, do yourself a favor and book directly online via 3rd party sources and they will save you money.
"old hotel, great front desk staff"
We definitely won't stay here again, however, the front desk staff were very nice. The happy hour was so crowded that we had to wait in line for 15 minutes or so to get a drink and the snacks were gone when we got there. The fan in our room was very noisy and the room was very hot and dry despite putting it on low heat on a very cold night. The shower didn't work even though I tried several times. The front desk response was that it's an old building and you have to really pull on the knob to get the shower to work. I had pulled so hard I thought I was going to break it so I'm not sure how I was supposed to get it to work. There weren't any toothbrushes at the front desk as there are in most hotels if you forget to bring one. The omelets were good but otherwise breakfast was lacking. The rate was great, however, not good enough to make up for all of this.
"A Great Option!"
We stay in KC every couple of months. For our last visit, 11/7/14, most of the hotels in the areas I wanted to be were priced quite high. My son had pointed out the 816 last time we were down and said he had heard good things. Although it did not have the corporate rate we were looking for, the reservation staff worked to find us one that did work. In addition to the rate, the included breakfast, parking, happy hour and Wi-Fi were very attractive. When we arrived I found the parking to be much better than many and we did not have trouble getting a spot all weekend. However, we did not have to move our car very often as the shuttle is very accommodating and we enjoyed getting to know Carl, the driver. The complimentary shuttle service was available for most locations we wanted to go which was fantastic as it would have taken us 3 cars to transport everybody otherwise. We did not have a theme room and the double rooms were typical. Tommy Bahama bathroom supplies. Several in our party (we had 4 rooms) needed to call to ask about turning the shower on but it just pulls hard. Would prefer a queen over double bed. Our room was quiet but some said their floors were quite noisy. Unlike many hotel rooms, there were plenty of accessible electrical outlets. If it weren't for the omelet bar, it would be a pretty standard breakfast offering, but the omelettes were good and the chef efficient and entertaining. Kansas City's Roasterie coffee. The breakfast staff stayed on top of everything and kept all stocked, filled and clean. Great service for happy hour. Gardettos for snacks. There were fresh baked cookies when we came in quite late in the evening. Plenty of complimentary KC Star newspapers in the morning including Sunday. The 816 is located in the heart of Crossroads with easy access to restaurants and venues and very close to the plaza. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful, have a good sense of what people are looking for in making recommendations.
"Nice - not fancy "
11/06/14 Megan A Dunlap, Iowa, United States
We stayed at the 816 for 10 days during October and it was a good experience. Location is a plus - within walking distance of lots of food and nightlife and within a quick drive to the plaza, Kemper arena and downtown KC so we loved the convenience. Hotel was clean, staff was friendly and breakfast was good. Parking was occasionally an issue and beds weren't the most comfortable, but I would stay again for the price and location.
