"Beautiful Hotel Too Close to Train"
The hotel is simply beautiful and the staff was excellent. However, the trains run ALL NIGHT. I was summarily woken at 3 am, 4 am, and 6 am by train whistles blowing so loud it was as if they were in the room with me. I inquired and was told that there are quieter parts to the hotel (not facing the train tracks). I'm not sure if I would stay here again, […] but if you plan to, I strongly suggest ear plugs and requesting a room as far from the tracks as possible. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautifully kept historic Inn."
We were in town for a concert at the Fox Theatre which is walking distance from the Inn. This was our third stay at the Inn and we are already booked for a few days in October to enjoy Kellys Spa, and the theatre. the Inn is charming and beautifully kept as a historic landmark hotel. Fabulous food at Duane's and the Mexican patio restaurant. Very informative […] escorted walking tour of the Inn is a must, and Christmas will provide an amazing display so we may just have to go back then, too. The room was in perfect condition but lacked a second lounge chair, and any sort of table for room service dining. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"I'll be back"
This is a glorious place, a real classic. Check-in changed our room instantly when we asked for something quiet (there are wall-to-wall weddings at the weekend). The room was indeed quiet, and it had a great view over the gardens and pool. The pool is large and was never crowded; you can stay there all day, as there's poolside food and drink service […] and an endless supply of fresh towels - plus a cozy bathrobe back in your room. The jacuzzi worked perfectly (max # 11 but often empty). I didn't take the hotel tour (guests spoke very highly of it) but it's easy to spend hours wandering around the outside walkways and the corridors, which display some great furniture from Asia and the US - you can sit in the chair specially made for the visiting President Taft, who was famously large. Solid bars and restaurants, but the main appeal is the place itself. And very helpful staff. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The pictures on the various travel sites do not do this hotel justice. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. We highly recommend the Mission Inn!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beauty and the beast"
My husband and I stayed as a little getaway. It is a very lovely hotel, the room was very clean. The staff was great and the Campanas restaurant was delicious. The only issue we had during our stay was the street cleaner using a leaf blower at 6am. I don't recommend staying toward the front of the hotel for that reason. Overall, it was a wonderful […] stay. "More than disappointed"
Reserved two queen rooms that were suppose to be adjoining so we could take in a Fox performance with the convenience of walking back to our hotel. Nothing is adjoining in the non-renovated section of this hotel. Not really a big deal except clearly the establishment should tell you that when you request adjoining rooms through them AND they tell you […] have those assigned. They were the only rooms available through your website as the hotel itself was sold out. I was initially happy to get a reservation, but found the room to be unpleasant at best. Lumpy bed, horrible mattress, very small, inadequate ventilation so you had to leave your window open at night which meant some street noise. I am aware that 3rd party reservations get you the worst rooms in most hotels, but their designated rooms for this are very sub-par especially for a hotel which promotes itself as having luxurious accommodations. The common areas of the hotel are quite lovely though staircase carpeting looks quite dingy and numerous walls are in need of fresh paint. Our dinner was surprisingly delicious as one would expect from a luxury hotel. But to advertise that the "old-world décor has given way to modern sophistication - with rooms, suites and event venues showcasing the style and comfort that today’s travelers expect" is very simply a HUGE misrepresentation. "Horrible staff and disappointed!"
Because my room was booked through a third party I was given a lower class room even though the capacity was at 60% - had I been given a room that any other guest would have received I would go back again. I was shown a room that most guests are checked into by my bell boy and was very disappointed. I spoke to the mgmt and they said nothing other than […] that is the room you get Miss... The last time I stayed here was 50 years ago, when I was 17 years old. It hasn't changed that much. Still a beautiful spot in a marginal area. Wish I could have stayed longer---but was on my way to a funeral.Need to come back in less than 50 years!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Reviving Eligant Californio Lifestyle"
We made it a point to use all hotel services: valet parking, baggage and room service, eat all meals in hotel restaurants, watched people while having after dinner cocktails, visited museum and art galleries, examined antiques that are everywhere.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a great hotel experience for someone who wants a unique environment for themselves. The mission inn is part castle and mission. It is fun to go explore and get lost. The bar and restaurants are great and have enough price range for most budgets. I used to roam the Mission Inn when I worked at Field Photography in the late 1970's. When booking this room I thought there was a continental breakfast. I also did not know till it was too late to cancel that parking was an additional fee. The hotel is beautiful, but the layout of the room we stayed in could be improved. Particularly, the TV is one side of the bed, so it's very unconfortable to look at. Other than that, everything was excellentGenuine Expedia guest review
"Cool place in a not so cool spot!"
My husband and I stayed here for one night. Unfortunately it was Sunday so the only restaurants open were the Mission Inn Restaurant and the Mexican food restaurant. We ended up at the first one and it was really good! Walls of the rooms are paper thin but the hotel makes up for it with all the amazing architecture! Only downside is the surrounding […] areas are run down and a little sketchy! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We were kept up all night by sounds of train horns, people walking above us, and general noise. The valet parking was not always courteous. I would not recommend going to Riverside nor staying at this hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The Mission Inn was a fun experience. I don't think I can describe it in a way that would do it justice. We stayed one night in a standard room that was roomy, clean and comfortable. Because the hotel is so old, you can hear every creak and footstep around. Also, you can hear the trains that pass all night long. Not sure if you hear it from all the […] rooms or if it was just where we were located (room 216). The hotel offers tours and I wish we had taken one, instead we explored the hotel on our own after dinner. The decoration and architecture are amazing. There were spiral staircases, twists and turns, tunnels. There was so much to see. We happened upon a small door with a sign "Aunt Alice" and tried the latch but it was locked (it didn't look like a hotel room door). As we started to walk away, the latch started giggling on its own. Startled, we hurried down the hallway away from it. We passed the door again on our way out and as soon as we were in front of it the same thing happened. The next morning I asked the front desk and was told "Alice" was Frank Miller's sister and keeper of the Inn until her death in the 1940s. I told him about the lock rattling and he said he didn't know anything about it. It wasn't until we got home that I Googled it and found out the place is supposedly haunted. Someone could have been on the other side of the door messing with us or who knows. It was a lot of fun though and the place is amazing. I'd recommend it even w/ the noise. "Unique, Historic and Quirky"
Unlike everyone else at the Mission Inn, I was there for business. The hotel has a lauded Christmas Light display every year that draws thousands of day-trippers and overnight families. So the atmosphere was something like a cross between Graceland and Disney World. To my relief, the display period ended my second day there. Beyond the throngs, the […] building is exquisite, steeped in history, and because of its unique background, every room seems to be somewhat different from the others. I got to see several because I requested a room change at 1 AM due to a crying infant in the next room. Clearly, that was not the fault of the hotel. The rooms are well-outfitted with great beds and 5-star bedclothes. But the towels in the bathroom are surprisingly thin and lacking in the elegance one might expect. The other issue is that the rooms completely lack sound-proofing. This is an issue because the beautifully tiled hallways and breezeways mean that laundry carts and suitcases make a racket on the floors that can be clearly heard within the rooms -- at all hours. Moreover, the lack of sufficient electrical outlets was puzzling in a high end hotel. The restaurants and service within them were both excellent, the choices plentiful and the building so gorgeous that it allows forgiveness of a lot. I would recommend this hotel to someone wanting a unique experience -- but if you are looking for the consistency and uniformity of a Marriott or a Hyatt, go elsewhere. "Romantic, Comfortable, Clean...I can't be mean"
This is a beautiful place to stay and I recommend it to anyone but, it is a bit pricey if you're just looking for a place to crash just for the night. I went for a couple getaway and for that reason it was perfect. There aren't many large restaurants near the area but some smaller cafes and such only (and fast food). The good thing, many nice larger […] restaurants are only a few exits away west on the 91 fwy off Tyler St. next to the mall. We stayed last year here and received a beautiful room this year not all that! I did not know the room number of last year and told the gal that it had bears on the balcony. Every time we flushed toilet had […] to lift lid to reset to stop running, broken lamp, and we did not get the comfy robes in our room this year. "My bill was lower than what I paid!"
I stayed at the hotel with my Mom and we loved the location and general splendor of the holiday decor and we had drinks and food at 3 of the restaurants. I was a little put off when the bill that was slipped under my door was $79 less than what I paid. When I inquired about it, the lady said the price was whatever I paid through Expedia and that it […] was wrong. I thought I was getting the rock bottom rate through Expedia. I would have rather had the room rate of $109 instead of the $159 I paid. For the future, guests should not see a bill that is not correct. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
