This hotel was right off the highway but there was a TON of construction going on. My pillow case had stains on them and the bathroom floor had hair in the corners.

The only downsides that I saw were that parking can get a bit tight in this 30-unit HJ and the small office lobby can get a bit crowded during the continental breakfast. After fighting all the road construction surrounding the hotel we finally arrived to find our room door wide open and the room was filthy. The old adage , "you get what you pay for", definitely applies to this hotel.

My only comment is the parking was tight. Not a lot of spaces. Also, it was in a road construction zone, so getting in and out of the hotel area was challenging. I expect this to change when the road construction is done.

Overall the stay was quite nice. The hotel rooms had new/nice furnishings and for the price of the hotel I was very surprised. The commute to downtown only took about 10 minutes (sometimes closer o 15-20 with traffic). Only issue I had was the room keys stopped working quite a few times, but that could have been due to my flip-magnet wallet..

The staff was very friendly and helpful. My room was comfortable and clean. Construction on the Freeway did cause a little hardship in getting to the hotel if unfarmiliar with the area. Was very close to where I needed to be the following day. I would definately stay there again.

Nice room with refrig., microwave, and TV. Unfortunately, lots of construction, dust, noise, etc. in a very questionable neighborhood. Also, breakfast was cold coffee and cold eggs. Staff, however, was friendly and tried to fix problems.

This hotel is very inexpensive, the staff was polite and helpful-they let us check in 1 hr early free of charge, and the room was very very clean. They have a safe, a nice fridge, microwave and a nice size tv with lots of channels. However, it is located in a very dismal area of town. It appears to be in an industrial area with several old offices buildings. […] I stayed there because I was attending a concert at the Toyota Center that night and wanted a place that was very inexpensive and close by; so I wasn't disappointed by the hotel. I knew I was getting bare basic when I signed up for it. If you are staying there for a reason similar to mine, or just need a place to sleep and shower for the night on a road trip and don't want to pay much, then it's fine; but if you are planning a longer trip and have a family, definitely stay away. There are hardly any places to eat nearby (a Wendy's down the road and a Salt Grass restaurant across the freeway--which is hidden from view#. The hotel has a computer in their small check in room that you can use but there is no pool, business center, fitness area, --so if those things are important to you don't go. The furniture was old, #a lamp that had a bulb that kept flickering, scratches on the bed boards, a missing handle on the drawers). Again, those things didn't bother me because I was expecting it, given the price. It just depends on why you're there, It really isn't a good choice for a long vacation but is fine for a 1 night stay. Read more

The room was painted a LOUD orange that would have kept me awake at night. There was really loud, dirty construction and the neighborhood was sketchy. When I saw the safe in the room I paid for the first night and left as fast as I could. I was in the room long enough only to arrange for another room in another Hotel!

Having stayed at other Howard Johnson hotels, I expected a decent room, but this was well above my expectations. Room was quite clean, well maintained, smelled clean. Staff was responsive & pleasant. A/C was awesome! Cooled so well, we had to turn it down in the morning. Good little coffee maker ( although I have learned to ALWAYS bring my own coffee […] & filters, as in-room hotel coffee is notoriously awful everywhere). Would definitely stay there again. Ok, here's the scoop.... If you are looking for a cheap motel (not hotel), near downtown Houston in the historic Heights neighborhood this is a choice. Due to room doors being open to the outside (motel style) and that this hotel is in a not-so-safe area, I would NOT recommend it for any women traveling alone. This nothing fancy motel is located RIGHT by the highway (I-10). There is also road construction going on on the road in front of the motel. Noise may be a problem for some. I just left the AC/fan blowing all night and the noise was not a problem for me (although my room was located farthest from the hway). The lobby is small, so the breakfast area […] seats only four. Given the limited number of units in the motel, the breakfast selection was not bad. Other reviews noted a lack of parking. There is limited parking, but I found a space on each of my three nights there. Room was decent (once I got past the fact that one wall was bright-orange) and properly cleaned. Good price for our 2 day stay in Houston. Staff was easy to deal with and timely with cleaning our room, which was very good. Comfortable bed, good supply of pillows, good water pressure on the shower, free internet, and large channel selection on the tv (more on that) Negatives would be the reception on the TV which supposedly had Comcast. Multiple […] channels had very poor reception which made watching some of March madness impossible. Also, the construction on I-10 was right outside of the entrance. This was out of their control of course, but the jack hammers on Saturday AM were annoying. And although not an issure for us, it would seem late comers are going to find parking a problem. We decided to go to Washington Ave for a friend's birthday party but didn't want to drive home after the clubs. The rooms were decent but there is a TON of construction in front of the hotel which makes it hard to get in and out of the parking lot. The woman at check-in was very helpful despite her broken english and the night shift worker was pleasant […] and apologetic when our cab left without us.
