Not as nice as I expected. The carpets were stained terribly, I had to wear socks to not feel so icky. The free breakfast was perfect. Last minute booking ,late a night turned into a pleasant surprise. Staff all round very welcoming. Bed was extremely comfortable, loved the fresh oatmeal at the morning buffet and warm welcome by breakfast staff. Pool was a treat. "Typical older building"
Couldn't sleep because hallway air conditioning roared all night long and was very loud in room. Called front desk at 3 am to ask about noise and he totally explained problem, previous guests have complained. Swimming pool is nice but hot tub sucks. I arrived at 9:20 Thursday night to be told I could not have my room even though it was already paid for as I did not have the credit card on me that the booking was made under (my husbands). Was told there was nothing they would do and to contact Expedia so I could cancel my booking. I explained that I was there for a sporting event with my two teenage […] daughters and had stayed there 3 times before and had not required a credit card then. Was told it was company policy and nothing could be done. I asked for a manager , and was told that there was not one available until 8 o clock next morning. I contacted my husband who in turn contacted the front desk and got the same attitude from the receptionist. It was very stressful. My husband then travelled from where we lived about 2 hours away to bring the credit card. By now the night staff was on duty and explained that the hotel had changed their policies about 2 months ago. I asked why they didn't advertise this on the website as we had checked all the small print etc while waiting. Was told they just hadn't. He then said he thought we should have had the room and dealt with the credit card the next day. We eventually got our room at 12.05 am when my husband came. Spoke to manager next day , she really didn't care , but admitted they did not advertise anywhere on the websites about their policies. Visit was just ok. Chose it over another hotel because of the free breakfast advertised. Upon arrival found breakfast was only from 7 to 9. We missed it. Might have been better if it was on from say 7-11, but that's just me. Otherwise it was just a stay at a hotel. I came to Red Deer remembering it from the 1980's and what the Red Deer Lodge was like back then - conferences, the atrium, the giant chair in the lobby that people got their pictures taken in, Snifter's and Esmeralda's -- the Red Deer Lodge was a jewel then. Well, maybe Snifter's wasn't that great, and maybe we can be grateful the demographic doesn't support Esmeralda's anymore - but at least the Atrium was still there. However even it looked a bit diminished. If I was holding a conference and I wanted to impress people, I wouldn't have it at the Lodge - its overall appearance inside is unremarkable, and its outside is - well, shabby.
