Buenaventura Grand Hotel & Spa - All Inclusive - Puerto Vallarta

The Buenaventura is located just a few blocks from the "happenin" Malecon and restaurants. We did not do all-inclusive during our stay so that we can enjoy the restaurants in the town. We were promised a European Plan breakfast through Hotels.com at this hotel, but the hotel didn't know about that deal. We explained to the manager and showed them our […] printed confirmation and they honored the request. For that fact, I think the staff was attentive to our needs. The condition of the hotel was nice, except that our hotel room door wouldn't lock. Our room was located on the street side of the hotel without a balcony, so it was a little noisy, but ok. The bathroom smelled a little like mildew, which is common in warm climates. The lock on the room safe was busted open, and not usable! The staff was all very friendly. The pool side entertainment was fun. The pools and grounds were great. I would stay here again due to it's location and that it was a clean hotel. Read more

The people who worked there were very nice, and the setting is beautiful and convenient. It's right by the downtown area and walking distance from lots of stuff. The pool and beach are nice. But in 3 days, they were out of towels 4 times: 2 times at the beach, where they require you to get beach towels, and 2 times in our room, when we were trying to […] shower. Worse All Inclusive experience ever!!! We were referred by another couple that we were travelling with, because they had been prior, but they will not return to this motel, again. We will come back to Puerta Vallarta, but will probably stay at the new Secrets. Also, the servers made you tip so that they would provide service.

When we got there, we took forever to get checked in. They had alot of people in the lobby waiting to get checked in. They made a mistake in our wrist bands & they embarrassed us in front of a group of people & told us they had to change it, that it was a mistake, so embarrasing. Enjoyed my overall experience! The Hotel itself was certainly adequate. My room was basic but clean and livable. Besides a VERY firm bed I would say there were no drawbacks. I became used to the bed after a few nights... Location was perfect, a short walk to the Malecon with some great shopping and amazing off-site dining nearby. Dinner reservations helped to provide a nice variety, and the drinks certainly helped! The staff was genuinely nice and always accommodating. The pool was better than I expected, adjoins to the beach, and includes food & beverage service on the sand itself. The activities director also turned out to be a valuable resource. He helped all the guests to get to know each other, facilitated a friendly-everyone-welcome-environment, and assisted with evening plans at the local bar/club scene. While it was inexpensive, remember that you get what you pay for! While I usually ignore bad reviews, I should have trusted those about this hotel more. Sub-par food and beverages (cheap brands, no variety), pool area very crowded with lounge chairs the only option and not very comfortable. Noisy at night with people in the halls into the wee hours (midnight - 3 a.m.) The upside was the staff was very pleasant and easy to work with. Jorge, waiter in the pool area, was the best! He was very attentive to our needs, but worked in various locations each day, so we didn't always get him in the "adults only" area (which was right next to the activities pool, so not that relaxing). hotel is within 5 min or less walking distance to the Malecon (famous downtown area) you can even walk past downtown to the romantic zone area in about 30 or so minutes. Stayed at Villa Premiere next door 2 years ago and decided to give Buena Ventura a try given the lower price and same proximity to downtown. It's about a 10 minute walk to the heart of the Malecon which is great, but the "Deluxe Room - European Plan" was really a dissapointment. The layout wasn't great and the bed was really hard, not to mention they […] had terrible pillows and heavy blankets. The lobby looks good, and yeah you get a free maragarita at check-in, but the room is really the important part. The pool area isn't bad, but could've been better considering the beach is not optimal for swimming and has a fair amount of rocks. It's hard to argue with the location and price, but the room could use some updating and better maintenance (shower was backed-up, and the TV batteries were dead). The TV also had only about 5 English channels which is much less than similar hotels in PV. Bottom line is all of the small negatives add up, so we would not stay here again. Read more

I stayed at the Buenaventura for 6 nights. I purchased all inclusive and the honey moon suite room. 1. All inclusive, the all inclusive is worth it if you drink alcohol. If you are going to have 3 drinks at the pool each day and wine each night you should do the all inclusive. The food was good for an all inclusive (i.e., about that of a Sizzler in […] the US) but there are only two ala carte resturants at night and one for lunch, a Brazilian Steakhouse and a Mexican restaurant. On Wed night they have a sushi restaurant (not very good). Menus are limited but food presentation is great. Unlike other AI places that send you to the buffet for salad/desert they make these too. Service was great (meals & pool) They have 2X the staff of most AI places. They bring you a bill to sign after meals & pool service so you will tip. In other words they encourage tips more than other AI places & use it to support better service. I tipped 20 pesos for BF and lunch & 40 at dinner. There are 3 heated pools (all were heated) but can swim in two (other in water chairs). They seem to clean pool only every 3 days. Ocean not to rough to swim but was quite cold (1st week March) and beach was rocky but nice & clean. All rooms are quite small, I got the honeymoon suite and it is NO bigger than other rooms except for a small nook for the hot tub (large tub), Balcony barely fit 2 chairs. Location is good, we walked to clubs at 10 pm (still safe) cab home (5 bucks). Noise was not a problem for us. Read more

Loved that there was a separate section for 18+; we're single women in our 20s and liked being able to be separate from children and families when we wanted to. The pools were beautiful. Perfect spot for those who want to be close to downtown, without being overwhelmed by tourists. Excellent food, lovely pools, great beach, superb service. Neighborhood is safe but not glamourous. Very easy to walk downtown or catch frequent bus. Glad we did the all inclusive and it was a good enough deal that we ate downtown several nights.

The flight was nonstop and easy. We took a cab from the airport to the hotel for a negotiated $20. The airport taxis are licensed and twice as expensive as the city cabs. The trip back to the airport was $10. The Buenaventura Hotel was great though it seemed like we were the only Americans there at the time. They did a wonderful Venice Theme New Years […] Eve Party by the pool complete with period costumes for the servers and a 10 piece band. The food and service at the restaurants was high quality and the costs we reasonable. My only complaint is the noise generated by the pool sound system echos within the u-shaped area. Must put down cash deposit at front desk if you would like a drink or to eat at any of the bars or restaurants. Restaurants and bars don't take CC or Cash. Caters to all-inclusive guest. Makes it a hassle for everyone else. Also, mold in bathroom and a horrible […] deodorizer was used in the AC vents that if you have allergies will make it intolerable. Play loud music all day by the pool so if you are looking to relax and read forget about it, you won’t be able to hear your thoughts over the MC who loves to hear himself talk and the obnoxious music. The other is the area south of the Malecon (check a map) and it is the singles or middle age swingers. The Buenaventura is north of the Malecon and in the old section of PV. The activities planned by Daniel and Mateo were so fun--we participated in beach volleyball, water aerobics, water volleyball, ping pong, a cooking class and poker. We also took advantage of the kayaking that the resort offered. If you get a chance take advantage of the couples massages--well worth the money as the ambiance alone will pay for itself. We traveled to PV in Mid June for friends of ours wedding. From the minute we arrived to the minute we checked out we were very impressed with the service offered by Buenaventura. Cold towels and frozen cocktails we offered to us when we checked in. Our room was clean and had the ocean view balcony we requested. I cannot express enough the awesome service […] Jorge provided us at the pool daily! In fact we would return just for the service he gave. We went all-inclusive so we did take advantage of breakfast daily and most lunches at the hotel, while dining out in the evening. All of the meals we had at the hotel were very good. The wedding was on the beach and again the service was outstanding. If you are looking for a nice hotel with good service at a good price than I would recommend Buenaventura. The actual hotel did not reflect the website. We were supposed to have a suite with an ocean view...the patio area was barely big enough for 2 people...and the view was minimal and looking over the shabby rooftop. We found that everything at the hotel was smaller than it appeared in the pictures. The only reason I would not recommend this hotel or go back is because of the noisy air conditioning. On top of that we had the misfortune to be in a room on the 4th floor which was directly under the HVAC unit on the roof. Add an airplane whining sound to the loud air conditioning and that meant little or no sleep, WITH EARPLUGS! Check-in was 3PM, had to check back 2 times, finally got a room at 4:30PM. Room was supposed to be a "King", got 2 doubles. No coffee maker, the fridge didn't work and the room was the 1st room on the 1st floor on the busy street (it looked like a last resort room for drop-in quests). We often went out for dinner as that is part of the PV experience and only ate at the buffet a few times but there was certainly a good variety of food for those who want to stay at the hotel to eat.
