"Two weeks, no sleep"
The only reason I would not recommend this hotel or go back is because of the noisy air conditioning. On top of that we had the misfortune to be in a room on the 4th floor which was directly under the HVAC unit on the roof. Add an airplane whining sound to the loud air conditioning and that meant little or no sleep, WITH EARPLUGS! The hotel is perfectly […] located close to the Malecon, the food is pretty good for an all-inclusive (after 2 weeks it does get a bit boring) however the chef is more than willing to cook something special if you request it and it's not on the menu. The waiters around the pool and beach were the best. One other problem is the room description. When you book the deluxe room described on expedia, it is nowhere close to a deluxe room at this hotel. The photos of the deluxe room on expedia's website are of the vip room on the 4th floor (and yes, we did get moved to that floor, and had the joyful experience of the airconditioning hvac noise). So beware of the hotel's description - their version of deluxe would be our 2* Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Central to downtown area and close to buses"
This is fourth time in Puerto Vallarta. Stay is always enjoyable even though humidity was high. The change at the Malecon to remove vehicular traffic was a good idea. Although we only had the breakfast at the BuenaVentura during our stay it was excellent. There are so many restaurants around town it was our idea to enjoy the variety and find our own […] favorite spots to dine. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Mistakes made, but corrected."
Check-in was 3PM, had to check back 2 times, finally got a room at 4:30PM. Room was supposed to be a "King", got 2 doubles. No coffee maker, the fridge didn't work and the room was the 1st room on the 1st floor on the busy street (it looked like a last resort room for drop-in quests). The manager noticed our disappointment and moved us into a "king" […] bed off the street (with an actual bit of ocean view). Everything worked except for a plugged sink, which they fixed quickly. "Very friendly staff - great location in PV"
From the time you arrive at the Buenaventura Hotel you will feel like you are at home. The staff could not be more accommodating especially the wait staff i n the restaurants and around the pool. The location of the hotel is perfect and you can visit the downtown and the Malecon in a short 5 minute walk. We have stayed at the hotel before and were happy […] with our stay once again. It is not a 5 star hotel and for those that want 5 star accommodation do not stay here. It is a comfortable and affordable hotel close to the downtown. There is a nice beachfront and the pools are fine. The bars at the pool side are also good but there is no swim up bar. The food is good, lots of fresh fruit in the morning and an omelet bar and a variety of other breakfast foods, lunch is also good with a fine menu of choice. We often went out for dinner as that is part of the PV experience and only ate at the buffet a few times but there was certainly a good variety of food for those who want to stay at the hotel to eat. The all inclusive is well worth it even just for breakfast and lunch as well as all your drinks. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Really great staff and location"
Walking distance to the centre of PV... Very clean... Great bed, best mattress of. Our trip!... Excellent hotel staff, very helpful and led tons of activities.... Smaller and a little retro compared to the big mega resorts in say nuevo villarta, but we liked that.... If you're looking for a giant resort with 6 beautifully landscaped pools and 5 themed […] restaurants, perhaps this won't be your choice... But we enjoyed ourselves and would return for sure Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great place to stay in Puerto Vallarta"
The Buenaventura is a clean, friendly and most enjoyable hotel to stay with in Puerto Vallarta. The staff could not be more friendly and the service was excellent. The hotel is close to the boardwalk in town and it makes a great evening walk. We would not hesitate to go back to this hotel. Several weddings also took place during our stay and they went […] off without a problem and looked very professional. The beach is very nice and you can walk along it into town. "Pésima recepción al hacer check in"

"Feels like home away from home!"
12/07/13 0025 Moose Jaw, Sk.
We have just returned from a 3 week vacation at the Buenaventura Hotel. It is our third trip this year & have stayed here about 20 times. We cannot say enough about the staff at this hotel. They really do make the difference. The waiters are great-Leticia, Gus, Eric, Joel, Jorge, Isidro, Diego, Eduardo & Miguel as a bartender. We enjoy visiting with Dahlia at the egg station & she makes the best eggs however you want them. Omar the bellboy, Paloma the concierge & Fabian & his staff at the front desk are very helpful. The rooms are fine & we have always found the beds very comfortable. We have always found the maid service to be good. They often don't speak much English but try hard to please. The location of this hotel is wonderful for walking everywhere. Jorge keeps you entertained during the day & evening. We have travelled to many places & this hotel is by far our favourite. We feel the staff & location make this hotel so special to us. It really does feel like coming home for us! All staff are great-just too many to mention. Roberta & Jim from Saskatchewan
"Nice hotel, great location!"

Enjoyed our stay here. Room was quite nice, clean and comfortable (even the bed!). Staff are all doing their best to please. Pool and beach areas are lovely. Location is fantastic, maybe a three minute walk to the Malecon. PV felt very safe. We were comfortable walking all over downtown and the Romantic Zone day and night. Food in the hotel is good for hotel food, but do yourself a favor and try some of the wonderful local restaurants.
"Wow....Great place to stay & Fun friendly staff with A+ Service!"

My wife and I stayed here in November 2013. We loved it!! We have been to other resorts in the past and have had some good experiences, but I have to say that here we were made feel like family so to speak....All the staff was so friendly, helpful and courteous to all of our needs. The food is great, the beach is well looked after and so are the rooms! Its only 15 minutes from the Airport, and close walking distance to great shopping, dining, and the true "Mexico" feel. The true bottom line on this resort is this....You walk in to the Lobby and its a huge well decorated space, you continue on through the vegetated walkways with palms and well kept shrubs, flowers and landscaping to the large pools....keep going and you are on the sand and taken back by the views of the stunning Banduras Bay....Wow! The servers at the bars are super friendly high fives all the time from Jorge & Fausto!! The activities are fun and change daily, and make sure you go see Antonio for some of the best instructed Scuba Lessons in P.V. There is no question that my wife and I will be back as soon as we can (again and again)!! Loved every minute!! A+++
"our stay not so great"
11/26/13 janelle264 Surrey, Canada
stayed nov 14-24 2013 we found this hotel very small. not much variety in food. we were told that there was 3 restaurants but only 2 were open. even tho hotel was FULL of. our 1st 3 days conisted of 5 soccer teams running around filling the pools & restaurants. our last 3 days had 120 inters from texas (ages 17-22) screaming & drinking whatever they could get there hands on. not sure why all restaurants wouldnt have been open????? we had a room on the 4th floor with balcony which was fine nothing fancy in the select priemium part of hotel. we did upgrade to jacquzzi suite not really worth the money. smaller room & had no dresser for clothes. i also dont think paying for the premium pkg is worth it either, we found they quite often ran out of premium liquor or had to run between bars to get another bottle. we also did the romantic dinner for 2, it cost $700 peco. thank god we did or we wouldve struggled to get dinner, as the hotel was so full. the only thing good i have to say about this hotel is that the staff are amazing. paloma at concierge is so great. i would not stay at this hotel again nor recomend
"Small, friendly, helpful resort"
11/24/13 CountryGirlCalgary Calgary
Our family stayed at this small friendly resort from November 2-12. The staff went out of their way to make our stay the best it could be. Thank you Paola for getting us a nicer room!! On day 4 my husband suffered a heart attack. We want to thank the staff for helping us. Lorena Frutos assisted our daughter with hospital transportation, phone calls and support. Staff later assisted me upon my arrival to the resort. Thank you to all the reception staff, Joel and Oscar and all the staff in the dining area. We would love to return to this resort again one day. Food is varied, pools and beach are great, location is perfect, but most of all it is the caring staff. Thank you. Bob, Jen & Marilyn
"Fun time at Buenoventura!"
11/20/13 globetrotter99 Chilliwack BC
We are a family of six Canucks who met up at Buenaventura for a week's holiday. Our first impression of the hotel was that it lacked character from the outside, but once in the lobby, the ceiling soars and the structure and the view of the ocean changed our minds. Rooms - two couples had rooms on the first floor. We had a king, ocean view with balcony, our son and DIL also had an ocean view with balcony, but had two queen sized beds. They had already asked to be moved as their first room did not have a balcony, so while they would have preferred a king-sized bed, they did not ask to be moved again. So make sure when you book that all your options are requested. Our daughter and SIL were on the 4th floor of a newer wing. While their bathrooms where updated from ours, their room was smaller. We found our rooms on the first floor spacious and comfortable although the bathrooms could benefit from updating. We all found food to our liking with the exception of the surf & turf. It had been recommended to us by another guest, but the night we tried it, it was tougher than proverbial shoe leather However, overall, the food was varied, fresh and plentiful. We all loved the yogurt, fresh fruit and omelets. The coffee was great as well. Pool & Beach - We thought comfort could be enhanced if there were tables, chairs and umbrellas around the pool and beach areas as we found trying to hold conversations from 6 lounge chairs quite difficult and sat for hours with no back support. (not good posture for two old parents). I got knocked down by waves in the ocean - twice. Everyone, including me, thought that was funny, but if we had little kids, we would not let them play ocean side. There are plenty of pool options and it never felt crowded. We were always able to obtain towels and lounge chairs. The location and staff make this property. The property is located in the heart of PVR. We walked almost everywhere and if we didn't feel like walking, taxis are readily available and the bus stops right outside. Everyone from the front desk, concierge, dining room and bar servers could not do enough for us. They made our family holiday the best ever. Particularly Jorge, Javier, Eric and Eduardo. The man who is the social director made the place fun as well although we are still waiting for the pictures that were taken of us in silly dress-up to be emailed. The only downside to our stay was that the hotel was full of families who were participating in a major soccer tournament so there were a few days where we heard a lot of noise from children running, playing and bouncing soccer balls in the hallways. I think we'd ask in future if the hotel was being used for a similar event before booking our next trip. That said, if you are looking for a fun place to stay that is central to everything beautiful PVR has to offer, we happily recommend this hotel. We miss our fish tacos and everyone at the Buenaventura, especially Jorge! We hope to see you all again soon.

I booked our honeymoon at the Buenavntura Grand through Apple Vacations because I wanted to spend a week in a place where I could lay out on the beach and have drinks brought to me all week if we wanted! Anyway, check in was super easy. Everyone in the hotel is so nice and helpful, and I truly mean that! We didn't have any problems the whole trip with anything, not one! The food was fabulous at the restaurant and the buffet, the bars were great and filled with friendly staff. If you don't want to enjoy a meal at the hotel, you are just a quick walk away from restaurants and the vibrant downtown area, and yes it safe to leave the hotel! I never felt unsafe in Vallarta at all. I'm a well seasoned traveler who has traveled to Europe twice and is from St. Louis, Missouri and I never felt unsafe in Vallarta. The room was very clean and was cleaned every day, which was good because we kept getting sand everywhere! My review of this hotel would be 5 green bubbles, but the only thing that truly did not exceed my expectations about this place was the beach. I'm not sure if all of Puerto Vallarta is like this, but the beach after you start walking into the water is full of small rocks and pebbles that killed my feet!! I guess you could wear some swim shoes and it wouldn't be so bad, but we didn't bring those! My husband and I spent most of our time just wading in the water up to our knees and didn't venture out much further. Again, I'm not sure if all of Vallarta has these kind of beaches, but it was alittle of a buzz kill for me!! All in all, this hotel is truly lovely and exceeded my expectations in every way and we are for sure going to return some day!

"5th time this year"

Obviously I like the resort..I have been a frequent guest for over 20 years..i also stay at other resorts but I keep coming back to this hidden gem.. WHY you ask ?? Well I will tell you...LOCATION: A short walk to the Malecon where the markets and resturaunts are located..(Yes it is safe to leave your hotel) SERVICE..I am not a needy person but I like good service and the 2 best servers are Omar in the resturaunt by the beach for lunch and ala carte dinner and Jorge at the pool. And the best concierge ever is Paloma..she goes above and beyound to greet you and make sure you are happy..if your air conditioner doesnt seem to be cold enough she is on it..dinner reservations made always with a smile. I spent 5 relaxing days there and while I was there the main pool was under construction I was informed of this immediatly upon checkin and told I could use the pool at the sister hotel villa premier..I never did I spent my time at the lounge chair pool. The main pool opend on my 2nd last day(they need to do maintanence some time) after they replaced tiles and took out the child barred off area and put in steps. It reopened While there yes there were mexican tourists they have a right to holiday in there own country too just like we go places in our country. ROOMS: I had the Oceanview Select room..it was clean ..bed comfortable, balcony with oceanview..mini fridge restocked daily with water pop beer..coffee maker(if you need more ask) FOOD: Amazing at the resturaunt by beach in all my trips Ive never dined there wow was I missing out it is great..great steak,shrimp,calamari,salad... Breakfast: omellette station where they make eggs any way you want doesnt have to be an omellette..if you want bacon ask they will make it for you..size of buffett is good enough choices for those that dont want to look at a pile of food they wouldnt take anyways.. Lunch: good choices in resturaunt if you want burgers, tacos, club house ect you can have served to you on beach. Ala Carte- you dont need to line up by 8am just go and see Paloma in the mornings to book.the menu in them changes so preview the one for that day prior to booking. Roamatic Dinner: Is an extra charge you can do it in the tower that over looks hotel area and beach view.Or you may have it on the beach it is well worth it. ROOM CATAGORIES: If you do the select room catagory they are located on the 4th floor the extra privalges include premium alcohol, extra choices in resturaunts, pool towels, bathrobes in room. All rooms are comfortable if a balcony is important book that catagory as not all rooms have one. Rene who does parasailing is great so is pancho who sells the tours on beach.Very honest, same tours as you would get thru your airline rep but cheaper. If you want a good vacation, relaxing and dont need the Ritz Carlton status go here.Relax enjoy and TIP yes your package says tips included but come on the staff work long hard days to make you happy. In canada if we went out to dinner on a gift certificate would you still not leave a tip its the same . A buck every few rounds goes a long way to making someones day.. the only thing Id like to see them do is aclient appreciation and upgrade rooms of return guests. Anyways again go enjoy fall in love with Vallarta and all it offers.
"Gotta love ... Location, location and location!!!"

I found this hotel to be a worthwhile gem in paradise. Located in the hotel zone, it is a 10 min. walk to downtown and about a 50 min. walk to the Marina Terminal - where quite a few of the most popular Puerto Vallarta activities depart from. Depending on the room, you can have a view of both the surrounding mountains and the ocean. Taxis from downtown to the Marina are a flat rate of 600 MXP (5 USD) per vehicle. Passenger vans and private transportation can also be arranged for larger groups. Buse routes are colour-coded It helps to know what your destination is (en espanol - i.e. Ixtapa) as there are no route numbers. It can seem confusing at first but after a ride or two you will fit in with the natives. Centro (City) bus fare is 65 MXP.
