"A bit far out of city center and hard too find"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 2, 2012
Walked from the S-bahn and got lost! After getting off the S-bahn at Laim go through the tunnel under the tracks and stay on Wotanstrabe and take a left when it splits after Walhallstrabe. The hotel staff was very helpful in guiding us through our planned itinerary of Munich. It is in quiet neighborhood but since it was so far out we didn't spend to much time in our room. We got stopped by the transit police and had to pay a 40 euro fine for not buying the correct train pass. So be advised.

Just west of the old town, the area around the main station is crammed with hotels and pedestrian areas filled with shops. Further north is the city's museum district, which is home to the Alte and Neue Pinakothek, the Pinakothek der Moderne, the restored Glypothek, the Museum of Antiquities, and the Lenbachhaus, which exhibits the work of Bavarian painter Franz von Lenbach.

I will almost certainly stay at this hotel again next time I'm in Munich. It is at a great very convenient location, close to many museums and the old part of town, clean and comfortable. In addition, the breakfast is fantastic. I read the negative reviews and can only conclude they are for a different hotel. Staff were great, it isn't the Hilton, but […] it is a very good value. "great location, great food, quiet room"
The hotel is in the same building as the munich central train station. You leave the station by the Beyerstrasse exit, turn left, pass a burger king and you're there. It could not be more convenient. Beyerstrasse is a busy street and my room faced it but the double windows kept it quiet. The room was small but comfortable. The included breakfast was […] fantastic. The old city is only about ten minutes walk but you can also take the subway to Marienplatz if you prefer. I would definitely stay at this place again if I return to Munich. Read more

This Hotel is outside of the central train station within easy reach from the airport by train and within walking distance of the main attractions in Munich.
"Great location and value for money!"
This hotel is at a great location; right on top of Munich Hauptbanof, which the Central Station. I was originally skeptical about the location as I was afraid it would be too noisy - however it was surprisingly very quiet, and we never heard the trains even when we had the windows open in the night. All trams. buses, underground and overground trains […] halt here, which means you are never more than 10 minutes away from anywhere in Munich. The hotel includes the daily transport pass which is a big plus; I estimate a daily pass to cost approx 20 euros per person. So if you are a family of four, that's a 80 euro savings compared to other hotels. The hotel has a great staff and very comfortable rooms. Room size is not that great, but it's what you can expect in Europe in general. Breakfast buffet was absolutely fantastic - no complaints. Build-to-order eggs, waffles, pancakes and they even had low-fat and soy milk available, which is a rarity in breakfast buffets in Europe. Some folks have commented about the neighborhood not being that great - which is true, but only to the south of the hotel, which is unfortunately the area where the hotel main door is located, so most folks would tend to start a walk from there. The neighborhoods to the north, west and east of the station are much better; Marienplatz is a 20 minute walk due east. Overall I would heartily recommend this place, and would stay there again if in Munich. Read more
"Good value for the price"
I like this hotel conviniently located near Munich central station (Hauptbahnhof). It's not far from main touristic sights (including Oktoberfest). Three main advantages: free public transport pass is included into the rate, very good continental breakfast and good location (main transport point, a lot of 24/7 caffees around, close to touristic cen […] ter). "Munich InterCity Hotel - Clean, quiet, convenient"
The InterCity Hotel is located at the end of the main train station in Munich with immediate access to the subways and trams as well. In spite of that, we heard no outside noise. The included breakfast buffet was as good as a cruise ship's and the public transit pass provided was a well-used bonus. The room telephone was not working, but we did not […] notice that until departure. The room was comfortable, clean, and pleasant, though not elegant. Great place to stay for Munich sight-seeing. "InterCity Muenchen"
I have stayed at this hotel for years...but not recently. When WiFi didn't work in my room, I was quickly relocated. This hotel isn't for everyone, but it is a very good buy if you know your way around Munich. Karstadt's grocery store - with it's bistro - is easily available. Single rooms are small but adequate.
"Centrally located"
This hotel is just a few yards from the main train station in Munich and if you are here on business or want to stay in a central part of Munich I would recommend this site. Restaurant and bar were good. Taxis everywhere. The room was a bit small but in my case I was there only to sleep. Internet access was painfully slow but it was a wireless connection […] and it could have been my location in the hotel. Read more

Arrived late at night and checked out kinda early. However, I found the hotel to be very clean and spacious. Well worth the price.
"Next to Munich Hauptbahnhof"
We stayed the the hotel Christmas Eve to a couple days after Christmas. The hotel allowed us to check in early (around 1p) and allowed as a late check out (3p) without additional charges which we were really happy about. The hotel staff in general was helpful although one lady at checkout wasn't the most friendly and was annoyed that we asked too many […] questions about how the parking, loading of luggage etc works. (sorry! first time parking in munich!) The parking was a reduced rate and cost 16.50 Euros/ day which was nice considered that it was normally above 30 Euros a day. We were initially concerned about finding food on Christmas Eve which we heard that just about everything closes but with the hotel being right next to the Hauptbahnhof and other hotels with restaurants nearby, it wasn't a problem! Noise was not a problem either. We couldn't hear anything from the station from the room. The room was clean and comfortable. We would stay there again for the convenience, and general cleaniless. "The IntercityHotel - slipping fast"
the room had mildew growing under the shower pan very objectionable odor in the entire room. Leaked keeping the bathroom floor constantly wet. Service desk not helpful when I rang backregarding an item left behind.
"Inner City Hotel great breakfast, adjacent to HBF!"
Best hotel breakfast I've ever had. On the same block as the main Munich train station. It's in the center of everything and the hotel staff was pleasant. It was however very difficult to get Internet access. You have to get a user name and an access code print out per computer or iphone from the front desk (not over the room phone). The elevators were […] all extremely small and slow. Read more
"Convenient Clean Comfortable"
This hotel is located right at the main train station in Munich. You need only exit the train station and it is right there. Nearby you will find some of the best shopping in Europe on the pedestrian way. Breakfast was included and delicious. An excellent value. Highly recommended.
"InterCityHotel Munich"
Great location, directly at the main rail station. Restaurants and snack shops everywhere. The dollar does not go far relative to the Euro. So, it can get expensive if you don't watch it. Room here was clean and quiet. Our twin beds were comfortable. The rooms use steam heat which are dialed at the radiator. Breakfast buffet each morning was AWESOME!!!!! Highly […] recommended. "InterCityHotel Munich"
The hotel is literally next to the train station, but not exposed to train noise. I was not that impressed. even though there are a couple of well known brands in the neighborhood, you feel like you are a block away from the ghetto. I felt the rooms were small and overpriced. To be fair, the room included free breakfast, internet, and local subway […] access......................but, i was only there one night and didn't need all of these features. I would rather have paid less for the very small room. if you are on your way to the airport, you can walk about 500 meters and get on a train to the airport for 7.5 euros (10/2011) Read more
"Convenient location"
The hotel was conveniently located right next to the train station and other form of public transportation. We used the free pass for the subway, etc. quite frequently and was very helpful. Overall it was a nice location. The rooms were ok, warm and clean.
"Great Place to Stay"
The Hotel was squeaky clean in every nook and corner, the staff wonderful, the restaurant very nice. The morning breakfast buffet was excellent. It's a first rate establishment. We were able to take the subway from the Airport to the central station and walk just a few feet to the hotel. The one downside we experienced was accessibility. My wife uses […] a mobility scooter and the only accessible access was a ramp to a backdoor. But it was there, just not in a convenient location. This was our first trip to Munich. Location, location, location. Nothing fancy but located right next to main train station in town therefore, we were able to save the fee of a taxi from the airport and back. "Convenient location, kind staff, not so nice room"
The convenient location of this hotel (right next to the main train station in Munich) is the best thing to mention. The other good things are the breakfast (lots of choices, great food), and that every guest is given a transportation pass (valid in all metros, trams, buses in the city center) for the entire time of his/her stay. But there are drawbacks: […] even the hotel general facilities are in good condition (like the restaurant), the rooms do not correspond to a 4 star hotel. The size of our room was tiny, carpet was dirty, and the A/C was not working properly ...the room was always warm, even we set the A/C to it's maximum capacity! I guess if you go other time than summer or hot days, the hotel is acceptable. Read more
"Worst experience dealing with the receptionists"
We booked two rooms with the hotel because the hotel has AC. We also requested non-smoking rooms. On Aug 19, we were assigned a smoking room for me and my wife. My daughters were assigned a room on the top floor with no cool air coming out of the outlet. On 5PM, I talked to a male receptionist about the 85 degree temperature in my daughter's room. He […] asked if we called the technician. I said no. He said "Well, that is the reason!". I went back to the room and called the technician and the call were routed to a guy that sounds like the receptionist. He said the technician is not working in the afternoon. I went to the lobby again and told him the story of the technician. He said the hotel is all booked. We can wait untill tomorrow morning to switch to another rooms. Next morning 8 AM, I went down to the lobby. This time a female receptionist. She said the rooms are all booked. No rooms for the swtich. I aksed her that the rooms are not yet assigned and she can assigned the other rooms to us first. She said " we already gave you an upgrade on your rooms. If we switch your rooms to others that would be a downgrade and unfair to other customers". Now I am really confused. Am I the lowest paying customer? When I am back to hotel on 5 PM Aug 20. I see the same male receptioninst and asked him if there is a chance to swtich. He told me that the rooms are all booked and I should came back earlier. I told him I did. He said then we should come back again before noon. I see the other guests are still checking in during our discussion. Then he said the technician works in the afternoon today. He could call him. The technician came to our daughter's room. He said the system is not able to handle hot weather. There is nothing he can do and left. We had sleepless two nights in the hotel. We have to suffer the smoking odor and my daughters had to stay in the 85+ degree room for two nights. Read more

"InterCity Hotel Muenchen"
We arrived by train and to our surprise the hotel was next door. Great access to the trains and all destinations. Breakfast was included and was fine with a nice selection of different breakfast items . We also received a free pass for the train for our entire stay. This was great and much appreciated. Two issues - the room was not well air conditioned […] and we were hot much of the time... AND the TV had no English stations. Not even CNN. The location made it a worthwhile stay and staff was accomodating. Read more

"Limited access in Munich"
Upon entering the room, it appeared very large and modern, comfortable. It advertised wireless internet, our laptop could not receive a signal in the room, we had to walk across the street daily to pay at an internet cafe. Also, the air-conditioning was not operating properly, we had to open the windows to the noisy sounds of the train station next […] door. We noticed in the hallway, a window opened as well, indicating, a lack of air flow through the hotel. We could not access any English TV, not even the BBC news channel, just German speaking shows. The breakfast was very nice, many items to choose. The desk staff was pleasant and apologetic to the lack of operating services in the room, but could not remedy them. We arrived from Poland, where we had all these services available, and was surprised in Munich this modern hotel lacked these. I would not recommend this hotel due to lack of modern technology services. Read more
"Clean, close and courteous"
The InterCity was exactly what we required. If you arrive by train from the airport at the Hauptbahnhof, once you go up the first flight from the platform, turn right a little and go up the escalator and walk straight ahead towards the giant Cocal Cola sign. Once on the street, turn left and the hotel is just after the Burger King. How easy is that? The […] desk staff were all polite and courteous, although we didn't get quite the tourist information we needed. However, they were very accomodating about storing our luggage after we checked out, and we could print out our boarding passes on their public computer at no charge. We had one room for two of us and the other for a single person. This is Europe, so of course we didn't expect the room size one would get in the States, but they were bright and airy, and plenty big for us. Beds were the single mattress on a frame with a duvet for a cover (no top sheet) as is usual. Our double room was a corner room at the back of the hotel overlooking the loading dock. With the double windows open, we could hear lots of banging. When we closed the windows - near silence. Our single person's dorm-sized room overlooked the Bayerstrasse. She had the same experience: close the windows and no noise. The a/c for both was adequate, but not overly cold or noisy like American motels. No problems with cleanliness and the rooms were serviced with clean towels daily. (Don't forget to bring your own washcloths as is usual in Europe.) We did not use the TV, but did use the free internet connection with no problems. As other reviewers have said, the free breakfasts are absolutely outstanding, as is the wait staff. And yes, they give each of you a free pass for the central area's public transportation. It's not far to walk to the Marianplatz, but it's pretty nice to be able to take the U-Bahn when you're tired. A great hotel with a reasonable price for what you get. Read more

"Good Hotel Next to Train Station"
Very nice breakfast buffet. Busy hotel but efficient. 15 minute walk to Marianplatz. Elevators and good Internet service.
"Great location"
The hotel is located less than a block from the central station which makes it ideal to get there from the airport by train and to go around the city using the same train system. The area is safe and has an excellent location. The hotel offers "free" train tickets for each person staying there. We used our tickets daily and covered not only Munich, […] but the surrounding areas, where we visited castles. Free wireless service is available with a computer in the lobby and access from your own phone/laptop. The a.m. of our departure, the hotel provided breakfast boxes since we were living before they opened for breakfast. The food was not only delicious, but abundant. I recommend to book the hotel with breakfast included in the price- the food is superior, but can be expensive if you purchase it there. Read more

"Fantastic for many reasons"
If you are planning on using any public transit in Munich or need to catch a train coming into the city or leaving, this is an absolutely fantastic location--it's about 500 feet from one of the side entrances of the Hauptbahnhof. AND, our room included a free pass for the public transit system. You'd think it would be noisy, but no. There are tens of […] small food sellers in the main hall of the station which is so convenient for picking up snack items or inexpensive takeout. The hotel has installed two sets of windows several inches apart--where normally there would be one--that do a fantastic job of sound deadening. The breakfast is marvelous--fresh fruit, all kinds of cheese and meats, pastries, lox, cereals, yogurt, eggs freshly cooked and your own pot of coffee or tea. Read more
"InterCity Hotel Excellent location for day trips"
The InterCity Hotel has an excellent location it is close to the Muenchen's City center. The train station and subway are right next to it so it makes it very convenient to move around the city. They even provide you with a free pass to use the subway for the length of your stay. The train station also has lots of small restaurants that offer a variety […] of different foods that are good and affordable. If you are interested in day trips the tour buses depart from around the corner from the hotel. The rooms are very simple, basic and somewhat small. They have a TV only good if you speak german...they don't offer any other channels in english or spanish like other hotels where we have stayed. The overall appeareance of the hotel is not the prettiest...but if you only need the room to sleep it is fine. They have half floors with stairs in between that make it inconvenient if you have heavy suitcases. The breakfast buffet is very good and the staff very attentive. Over all it was a good experience and I would recommend it. It is rated as a 4 stars but by american standards it would more of a 3 stars. Read more

Located just outside main railway station this hotel is a dream for getting on trains, s and u bahn to get anywhere in Munich. Hotel is clean and rooms are bigger then average room in Europe. "Intercity Hotel Munich, perfect ofr holiday travel"
The location of this hotel is perfect, especially as we were traveling by train to various destinations. It was conveniently close to the rail station and perfect for Munich center and sightseeing.

Hotel is quiet, clean and nice. Breakfast is wonderful. Location is perfect. It does worth the money
"InterCity Hotel in Munich--highly recommended"
Check-in was easy. The room was clean and quiet. The hotel had free internet in the room. The location was next to the main train station and convenient to the Christmas markets in the Marienplatz. The breakfast buffet was extensive and filling. I would recommend this hotel as a place to stay in Munich
"Excellent Location/Poor Maintenance"
This hotel is perfectly located next to Munich's main train station and thus easy access from the airport. Alas the television didn't work, and it was the night of the mid-term elections in the US. I never could get the front desk too excited about fixing the TV. It never worked during my stay. Ditto for the public Internet terminal.
