It was nice that you could open the window for fresh air. The room was dimly lit. There was nothing to hang anything on in the bathroom. Staff were friendly. Over all a nice overnight stay.

I loved being in a historic hotel as opposed to a franchise. The location was perfect for my reason for being in town. Staff was friendly and offered to give me a short tour of the hotel's historical banquet room -- worth seeing. I would definitely stay here again. This place was an absolute dump. Other than the fact that the beds were comfy there was nothing much else. Dingy and unkept. Wall paper peeling tiny tv and living space. Old carpet and curtains. Advertised free breakfast which was bagels and orange juice. No toast even. Too highly priced for the amenities offered.

Staff was helpful but sparse. Missing remote for TV in my room so desk clerk had to leave her post and look in other rooms for a remote. Had to unplug the fridge to plug in the microwave and coffee maker, which meant moving the whole cabinet. Towel rack in bathroom was broken.

Neighborhood was downtown and in the midst of reconstruction. Nightly environment was uneasy. Parking was limited at hotel, but pay parking garage was next door. Many steps to get into building with luggage and no porters available. Room was well equippied and very clean. Included breakfast was cereal and rolls etc. nothing special.

The entrance was on the backside of the hotel. A sign on the street-side door directed you to a street address but, being from out of town, we did not know where the street was. Before walking all around the building a worker reporting for duty spotted us and directed us. If you are looking for a hotel in the center of old downtown Binghamton, then this is an ideal choice for you. It is less than a stone's throw from the courthouse. I'm sure there are a lot of people who will bust on this place (I read some before I booked). However, it was clean, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel for someone considering […] staying near downtown. It is true that my room was in need of cosmetic repairs here and there. The bed was acceptable, but the mattress was not up the standards of a good business hotel. The only really notable positive thing in the room was the 20 foot tall ceiling. The lobby, bar and breakfast areas reflect the historic character of this building. For me, this made the hotel a good value for the $110 I paid. Take a look at the lobby photos and if you are not interested, then you probably won't agree with my rating. For some reason, this area is more expensive than the national average when it comes to hotels. A decent business hotel in this area will cost you $20 more and will not have any pleasant surprises for you. The continental breakfast is nothing special, but is better than a sharp stick in the eye. They did have plenty of fresh cookies out late at night (don't tell anyone, but my wife and I downed 3 each). One note - when the numerous bars close at 3 AM on the weekend, the the streets around this hotel fill screaming asshats. I've never seen or heard anything like it, even in college. When I first woke up and opened the curtains, I expected to bear personal witness to the rise of the planet of the apes. For me, this was another quirk of the hotel I could take in as an anthropological case study. Other people would be less tolerant and should avoid this area. Read more

this hotel is perfect for one or two nights, the rooms were small but clean. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. It was perfect for a hockey game, it is walking distance to the arena and local bars and resturants. If you are not interested in hanging out with college students pick a time when school is out!

Stayed to see the Binghamton Senators. Walking distance to Broome County Arena with numerous eating options in the area. Staff was very friendly and stay was good. Building is the former municipal center and dates back over a hundred years. Quite nice inside lots to observe for anyone intersted in architecture. I would recommend a stay here!

I spent one evening at the Grand Royale and I'm very glad I did. It's got tons of old-world charm and all the comforts that a more modern facility offers. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the staff was very pleasant & helpful. It is old ( a landmark building!) and some of the furnishing are past their prime, but I was very comfortable there and enjoyed the atmosphere. I will return again and recommend the hotel for anyone visiting Binghamton or the area.
