One of our main reasons for picking this hotel was the shuttle service we hoped would bring us to the Starlight Theatre. We normally stay in the Power and Light District but this area and hotel have completely won me over. Not the same "touristy" feel that you get in the P&LD and half the price. "Good but needs improvements"
We stayed at the Q Hotel for my son's spring break vacation and visited a friend in KC. I am sure the Q Hotel was very nice when it was first remodeled but it doesn't seem like it has been well maintained, it's looking worn. The bathroom was very small and we saw water spots on the ceiling. The hotel is close to restaurants and shops which was nice. […] Breakfast was free and it was ok, nothing fancy. Free parking and free wifi which we liked. Not sure what is up with the staff, they don't seem like a happy bunch there. I am going to blame senior management on that. If your staff is not happy, then you need to find out why, maybe the staff isn't paid much or respected. I was asking a front desk person some question and she chugged a soda the whole time I spoke with her and acted like I was bothering her, I didn't like that. The first day we were there, housekeeping changed all our towels like we requested, the next day we left some towels on the floor and they never replaced and they didn't finish putting all the bedding back on our bed. Pros: The location was outstanding - walking distance to many fun Westport bars. The staff was friendly and helpful. The shuttle to anywhere within a 3-mile radius was a nice touch, though I never took advantage of it. Breakfast was included and parking was free. Price was reasonable. The bed was pretty firm and uncomfortable and there were multiple large rust spots on the tub near the drain. While there was an omelette station and belgian waffles, I had to wait 20 min for my omelette (albeit, there seems to have been some type of volleyball tournament and the place was teeming with teens), the juice machine was broke, there was no fresh fruit and only a large vat of yogurt that was screaming "eat at your own risk!" "Shuttle service made it worth it"
Our room was small and oddly set up (i.e., TV stand on the side of bed rather than in front, so hard to watch TV from bed) and had an overall cramped feel to it, so it was not a room I felt like spending much time in. However, the free breakfast was really good and the free shuttle to Plaza and to Power & Light was completely amazing and made the stay […] worth it. The hotel furniture and flooring appeared older than shown in photos. Comfortable enough, but they have a boiler system for heat so they cannot go back and forth between heat and air conditioning on a given day. The Q Hotel is in a prime location and for an unbeatable rate! The staff were very friendly and helpful when asking for nearest hotspots. The neighborhood of Westport a great place to be! We walked to nearby restaurants, bars and shops. There is a great sampling of foods around the area. We ate at Jerusalem Cafe (best falafels!), Beer Kitchen (fantastic!) "Older building, poor parking access"
I arrived on a weekend that it had snowed a bit and apparently there was VERY POOR road cleaning. There is one driveway to the hotel which is up a small hill and my vehicle could not get in because of said snow not being cleared-not even in the driveway. So, make sure it hasn't snowed! I checked in after "happy hour" so there was no refreshments available […] in the lobby. The elevator was creepy small, if you have elevator phobia do not go here. I reserved a non-smoking room, and the clerk reassured me the whole hotel was non-smoking. The hallways smelled a bit of older cigarette. Once I got to my room it hit me like a slap, reeking terribly of smoke especially in my room. As I am asthmatic and sensitive to such things I couldn't possibly sleep there. Mind you I wasn't able to park anywhere near the hotel anyhow. "The room was very small and hot"
The room (410) was so small there was less than a foot between the beds and the wall. So you could only get out of the bed on one side. We had a room with two double beds for our family of 4. The room was so hot that we turned off the heat, but we were still sweating and couldn't take it any longer. We were able to open the window on the 4th floor, […] but the screen was hanging loose. We called the staff and they sent up someone right away with duck tape to tape the screen, but as far as the heat, they said that there was nothing they could do about it. It was 32 degrees outside and we had to have the window open in order to sleep. If you like hot showers, you will love this hotel. I never could find the cool water. The shower water was so hot that I couldn't stand under it. We had to brush our teeth in boiling water. The made-to-order omelets were good, but you had to wait along time to get them. The room was clean, but the ceiling was cracked and the furniture needed replaced. We booked online and when we went to check out, the hotel staff didn't even know we were still there. We booked 3 nights online and the hotel thought we were only staying two. The hotel clerk looked very surprised and said that 410 was suppose to be empty. The hotel handed us a bill of sale and their price was $20 less than the online price. Our special online deal doesn't seem very special now.
