First impression of the hotel was clean and nice. Upon entering our first room - there were towels on the bed and the floor and the bathroom was flooded and a wreck! We went back to front desk and were moved to another room. It was as expected for a hotel in the historic district of Charleston. We went out to dinner and to look at Christmas lights and […] returned to settle in for the night - only to find there was NO HOT WATER in the whole hotel. There was no housekeeping staff and no maintenance staff and they didn't know when anything would be fixed. We contacted Hotels.com and they got our reservation cancelled and helped us to get moved to the Courtyard by Marriott across the street. The staff there was awesome, the hotel was beautiful and we were given a room with a gorgeous view of the marina! I will be going back to the Courtyard by Marriott. They know how to run a hotel! Location: not within reasonable walking distance of downtown attractions, there is a shuttle at 6 USD / pp. City marina joins the property, so a good stop for cruisers passing through on the ICW. Rooms decent, mattress in good shape. Ask for a water view. We did not eat on site. Hyman's on Market St is the "must visit" place to grab chow.

Nice hotel, but far away from downtown, not at all within walking distance. You might as well stay in Mt Pleasant at cheaper hotels because you will have to drive downtown anyway and pay to park. I love Charlestown and would highly recommend a vist.

We were taking a boat trip down the ICW so we were able to keep our boat at the marina right next door to this hotel. It worked out perfectly for what we needed. We enjoyed some pool time after a day exploring the Charleston waters.

I liked the M & M's during the afternoon. It's not a long walk to the free trolly, but it is along very busy roads. The room was nice, clean, the deck off the lobby overlooks docks full of boats, so it's a nice view.

Only one computer available for the entire hotel. When it happened to be available, which wasn't often, another guest would be behind you breathing down one's neck as soon as one sat down even if only for a few minutes. The internet connection was terrible, it was extremely slow and would stop frequently. I've traveled to developing countries that had […] better internet connection. Breakfast was not worth $10 per person. The bacon was greasy and the eggs didn't have much taste. I was pleased to see fruit and whole wheat bread. The staff were very attentive and the concierge was most helpful. The major downside about this hotel is that it's 1 mile from the historic district and the shuttle charged $10. When called to be picked-up we waited well over 20 minutes and gave up and took a cab. The champagne and mini cupcakes were a nice touch especially since the lady who greeted us was very welcoming. We loved everything about our stay at the Charleston Courtyard Waterfront! The hotel was in a great location, right on the Ashley River Marina and only a $10 cab ride to downtown Charleston. The grounds were beautiful and well-maintained. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet in the hotel's restaurant. Every staff member we encountered was pleasant […] and helpful. Check-in was easy and fast. The pool and courtyard were really pretty and made a nice background for pictures. The rooms were clean and comfortable and had every amenity we were looking for. We were surprised that we had lug our luggage to our room. The Oceanside view was awoke type of building on the roof. When we showed the "hotel" clerk a picture from our room his only reply was that it was an Oceanside view. The public restrooms were filled with overflowing paper towels because no one was emptying the trash. Went on vacation with my husband and 16 month old. We paid extra for a harbor view unfortunately that view also included the pool, construction and deck. When leaving the hotel you could only turn one way which made for tons of U-turns. There is a radio at the pool which stays on loud way past midnight, my little boy had the worst sleep because of it. […] We had a king sized bed and the room was very little also wasn't kid friendly. When the toilet was flushed it sounded like a gunshot it was so loud. It is a short drive to anywhere but you definitely couldn't walk. Our room was only cleaned once during our stay. We've stayed here before; like the setting, location and the price is reasonable. This trip the top bedding wasn't clean and the air conditioning made a horrific noise every time it kicked on ALL NIGHT LONG. There had been apparent flooding outside the washer/dryer room for guests that caused an unnecessary smell.

T.V. was too dark to see on any program with a dark background. This seemed to be the case with all T.V.s in our wing of the 4th floor (possibly, the cable run was too long to carry an adequate signal. The hotel is 3 min. outside of downtown Charleston. We had a rental car, which made it very easy for us to have access to get in and out of the city. There is a shuttle that runs to the downtown area from the hotel. We never took the shuttle, but it's nice to know there is one available. The view was nice with the marina next to the hotel. The staff was nice and when entering the hotel visually it was very pretty. The courtyard with small seating areas was also nice. However, the sink in the mini kitchen area had a leak. It had been leaking long enough that the carpet was wet. We went on to Myrtle Beach and stayed in a Hilton for half the price with the same quality from the staff. Two things disappointed me. 1. The bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. I had a wake up call at 3am so I went to bed at 9pm. I probably slept 2.5 to 3 hours from tossing and turning all night trying to get into a comfortable position. 2. The hotel did not provide a shuttle to the airport. So they called the cab company and set the pick up time […] at 4am. They told me the cab company (Yellow Cab) would call when they got there. I was in the lobby at 3:50am and waited until four. I could not see the cab and the front desk guy said that they will usually call and say they are pulling up. At 4:05, I walk outside and the cab is sitting out front. So, I went back inside grabbed my bag and went downstairs. When I got in the cab, I was already on the hook for $5.00. When I explained to the driver what happened, he told me that they NEVER call the hotel and that they are ALWAYS on time. So I was given false information and I had to pay for it. Read more

When I got there, hotels.com had not paid for my reservation, which was very annoying, since I was being told, at first, that I would have to pay for the room again and then take it up with hotels.com. The hotel is undergoing renovations right now, so it's not in tip top shape. Breakfast was expensive. The neighborhood description would lead you to believe that you're staying right downtown in the historic district, but you're not walking distance to anything. The parking garage has very small spaces, so small that I was concerned about doing damage to my car or hitting another car while getting in and out of parking space. I think these spaces fall into that "illegally small" category that were "exposed" on Dateline many years ago. It doesn't seem like parking in an area not really IN downtown Charleston should be a problem. There was not any charge for parking, but it was kind of stressful trying to get parked and unpacked. Other than that, all was good. Very clean room. Wonderful staff. View of the harbor, as long as you did not get too close to sliding glass doors! The room itself was clean and spacious, but this hotel reminded us of the perils of booking online. we wanted to be near the center of town, and in an area where one could walk around. Although thie building is on 'a' waterfont, much of that was swamp, and it was at least a mile from any of Charleston's many attractions. The swimming pool was dirty, water looked green in color. The towel cabinet by the swimming pool was empty and the hotel employee new it is empty but ignored it and walked away. I think management does not care about guest satisfaction.

The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly. The only disappointment was the restaurant/lounge. They only served breakfast in the restaurant and the lounge was tiny and did not have many choices of liquor to choose from. The location is excellent. The view was beautiful. This is an OK hotel with a poor location. It is only convenient to MUSC, College Of Charleston and the VA hospital. Any other destination is a hike; cab ride. You would be much better off paying the marginal increase in costs and staying closer to Market ST.
