Essex House Hotel - Miami Beach

You cannot beat the location of this hotel. It's proximity to the beach, restaurants and nightlife is amazing. The rooms were small, but comfortable and clean. My only concern was that they seem to be extremely understaffed. At night it was difficult to get anyone to answer the phone or assist us with a few issues. Unfortunately, I became ill during […] the trip and had to stay in on a Saturday night. My boyfriend tried to find someone to give us hot water for tea and it took several tries and several requests to get someone to accommodate. I don't think that this was because the individual at the front desk was unhelpful, I think he was just simply overwhelmed. Overall, the stay was great and I would visit again. The Essex House had me concerned before I booked because of some of the reviews, but my stay was great! Right in the heart of all the action, Essex House was perfect. While staying, we noticed the pool was little small but you have complete access to The sister hotel next door, The Clevelander, which has amazing amenities and even a tanning area on […] the roof where you can relax and even get a free welcome piña colada! The service we received was up to par with what you would expect from any hotel customer service. The rooms were clean and we were brought fresh towels daily. The Essex was fantastic. We stayed here on a Tuesday and Wednesday in March 2013. The location was central to South Beach and we easily walked to all our destinations. It was a bit noisy but not as bad as it could have been considering it was Spring Break for many schools. I called for several days before I could even get someone at the front desk to make a change to my reservation. Each call resulted in about 20 minutes on hold with either to be hung up on or told to call back, no one could help me. The agent I finally reached told me she noted the change in the reservation, however when I went to check in the guy that […] helped me said he had no record of the change, that I forfeited my reservation and that I had to pay a second time. Complete nonsense. If you want to be assured a headache and loads of frustration, go to this highly understaffed hotel. Read more

I loved being close to the Art Deco center for the Walking Tour, just a block away. A bit noisy at night but not bad. The room was beautiful, but it waas promised to be a King Size bed and pull out sofa. Since I was traveling with my adult son, it was important to have the extra bed, which was NOT there. The hotel in general is well mantained and has an excellent location. However, I got room 115 and was extremely noisy. I could hear the conversation of everybody in the hallway and the guests in the room next door. The service door for employees was right next to my room, and started to be opened and closed at 8 in the morning and every five minutes […] since then. Great hotel right behind The Clevelander in South Beach. Walk to beach, restaurants and nightlife. Much quieter and cozier than The Clevelander but have full access to everything there. Restaurant was fantastic with wonderful service.

Overall, this was a fine place to stay. The room was decent but small, with no place to lay anything down. Beds were ok but I could feel each spring of the mattress. That being said, it was clean, the windows kept the surrounding sound out and it was one block from the beach.

For an older building it was in okay condition. It is very clean and house keeping does a remarkable job. There was a loud "motor-type" of noise that seemed to be coming from the vents that kept waking me up even with my ear plugs on. The picture on the televison was not clear and there appeared to be difficulties with the reception but I didn't watch […] a lot of tv. I did report both issues to front desk. We stayed only one night at the Essex House and wish we had planned for a longer visit prior to our cruise leaving from the Port of Miami. The hotel is "way cool" (a quote from my 25 year old) and blends the terrific Art Deco architecture of South Beach with an outstanding modern rehab done three years ago. The hotel is even on the walking Art Deco […] historical tour. The pool is private and zen-like. The rooms are comfy (not huge) and very clean. The location is beyond excellent. We danced the night away a block away on Ocean Avenue outdoors at the Clevelander, which is affiliated somehow with the Essex House, and didn't even hear the noise of the party district after getting back to the hotel. The rooms were quiet and comfortable, but as soon as you stepped out the door you were in the middle of the action. This was a very shoddy hotel experience. I was having a great trip, so it was in spite of that I continually ignored the zero amenities, dank smelling room broken elevator for a 3rd floor walk-up and construction going on in the lobby. If I hadn't been busy having fun at Basel week this review would be even worse.

Visited So. Beach area and was delighted with my stay at the Essex Hotel. Stayed in one of the courtyard units and loved the privacy feeling. Imaculate room, great beds, hugh marble bathroom w/ jacuzzi tub. But the best feature was the staff, especially Juan, who all went out of their way to help in every way. They found a replacement sightseeing trip […] when my previously booked trip fell thru, gave great suggestions on dining, offered an umbrella when it rained etc. Be aware that as always, parking is best by valet. Loved the new Zen Sai restaurant they added since i last stayed 2 years ago. Food was amazing ( try the curry Pad Thai) and the staff was very friendly and accommodating ( Juan, Jose, Bella, Ian!)
